Add or edit bookmarks causes Safari to hang

When I try to add or edit bookmarks on my MacBook Pro it causes Safari hang and I must use force/quit to get out.

I use iCloud and when I try to add bookmarks in safari on my iPhone it is successful, and then it syncs to my list of bookmarks on my MBP, but if I try to edit this bookmark Safari hangs again.  As far as I can tell this has only started in the last days.

I tried logging and again to iCloud and remove the iCloud list in Safari preferences.

The software is latest version and works well in all other respects.

On your Mac, open System Preferences > iCloud and then uncheck the box next to Safari and select re.

On your iPad and iPhone, tap setting > iCloud. Disable Safari then turn it back on.

Give iCloud minutes to re sync your bookmarks, then try to add or edit a bookmark.

  • Window Edit-bookmark truncated, so cannot bookmark

    I use Firefox on XP & Ubuntu for many years.
    I have more than 3,000 bookmarks in a lot of cases, this is not new for me.
    I just installed Ubuntu 11.10 / found Firefox version 9.0.1
    When I try to add a new bookmark to the second star-click, Edit-bookmark window opens OK, but when I try to select a folder in the drop-down list, then the window is truncated at the bottom and to the right.
    Clicking on a target folder it says OK but I can't see any button to confirm, so nothing is saved in the correct folder.
    All attempts end in unsorted bookmarks.

    You can of course choose a smaller value than the 60em I posted, but at least you can see that it worked.

    You can also add a height (or min-height) so that needs to be adjusted.

    I don't know what value is necessary for height, so just experiment to see what works (try 20em or 25em).

    #editBookmarkPanel {
     width: 40em !important;
     min-height: 25em !important;
    }
  • Sort bookmarks in Safari

    Hi all

    OK it's 2016 and something changed.  In order to sort my favorites, I did drag a folder of bookmarks to the desktop, used to be open in the Finder and then all bookmarks have been sorted in alphabetical order.

    Then just drag the folder in the bookmarks.

    UH Oh.  Now, it does not work.  I can drag a copy of the folder on the desktop and it's done but I can't drag it to safari!   Ugh!  I work of Favorites-Edit bookmarks.

    Called Apple support and he said to google and find some names of app and then go to the app store, but I can't find anything in the app store, unless I'm wrong looking.

    I use OS X 10.10.5 on a 6 months old iMac and Safari 9.1

    The reason is that I was using Chrome but now Chrome acting up so going back to the last Safari.  I need to make sure that all my bookmarks in Safari are ignored before importation (or copy/paste) my current favorites of Chrome.

    Hi, I have a Macbook Pro with Yosemite and have a backup hard drive.

    I've been doing many changes/modifications to my bookmarks in Safari for weeks, but I notice that a folder of bookmarks that I moved is missing one more a week ago. How can I restore a folder of bookmarks in Safari, but keep all my other current/edit bookmark files? Is there a way to do this?

    Thanks for any help!

    Select

  • Edit bookmarks

    Hello

    I use the Firefox browser for many years and I hope I'll use over the years, but there is a problem on the Android version of this one. I can't edit bookmarks in anyway, so when I want to change the order of them, I have to remove the other bookmarks until the table I want to set the bookmark. Are there ways to do it easily?

    Hello

    Thank you for your question.

    It is a feature that a number of people would like to see in Firefox for Android. I talked to the development team and they have explained that it is a feature, they're looking to include in the next version of Firefox for Android.

    I hope this helps, but if not, please come back here and we can look at another solution for you.

  • How to import folders of bookmarks in Safari?

    I did Foxfire my browser by default and you have several files of bookmarks in Safari, I want to import bookmarks in Foxfire. How can I do this?

    See:

  • Java causes ff to hang/crash

    I'm having a problem with Java and firefox. Web pages that use Java or cause firefox to hang up (tabs are still clickable, and window title changes, but the page does not work), or crash all together. (I can't even use the app Java to detect on their Web site, it just pulled and never recovers)

    I tried to uninstall and reinstall Java and Firefox several times in different orders and nothing has fixed the problem yet. Java does not work in SafeMode either. I am running Windows Pro 8.1, Java 8, 45 and Firefox 37.0.2. I suspect that there is a problem with my computer or settings of Firefox because I don't get the pop-up windows asking me to allow/deny pages want to use Java as I get with IE. But Java does not work in IE either.

    If there is any other info I can give you please let me know, I'm going nuts with that to try to understand the problem and I'm stuck.

    This could give more control over java applets by allowing some websites to run java:

    Also make sure you install the 32-bit version of Java, it shouldn't make a difference as far as I KNOW, but Firefox is 32-bit.

    However, it does not solve the shot. If it is reproducible on other computers, you should also contact the developer of the applet.

  • Import bookmarks from Safari to Firefox 36.0.4 5.1.10

    I can't import bookmarks from Safari Firefox 36.0.4 5.1.10. I do not see "Library" or "Bookmark manager" or something (I think I saw a function import in an earlier version of Firefox) which is often considered online. I have a white iMac under Snow Leopard (10.6.8)

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    When you install firefox for the first time, you should automatically see an import dialog box. If you have already installed firefox, follow these instructions:

    1. go in the bookmarks menu, then choose "Show all bookmarks" (gives you the library)
    2. in the row of icons at the top, click on the button that has a star with a clock inside icon (fifth from the left)
    3. Select 'import data from another browser.
    4. choose "safari".
    5. choose what information you want to import (you can also import your preferences and history)

    You need to do in the Manager of bookmarks (library).

    You can find 'Data import from another browser' in the Manager of bookmarks (library)

  • Why don't I see "Bookmark this page" any longer? I can't add a new bookmark.

    Is it possible to go back to the old way of adding and display of bookmarks? I can't add a new bookmark, and one of my "old" now appears in the 'most' visited bar (is no longer in my list of bookmarks). I tried to use the star to add bookmark, but the new URL does not appear in my list of bookmarks.

    'Bookmark this page' has been removed from the menu drop down.

    There are other ways to save a new bookmark.
    1. right click on the page and use "bookmark this Page".
    2 {Ctrl + D} from the keyboard.
    3. When you click once on the 'Star', the new bookmark is saved in the unsorted bookmarks folder. If you click twice, slowly, you will get a screen that allows you to select the folder in which to save the bookmark in.
