Add SSD to OPTIPLEX 7040MT

I am interested in OPTIPLEX 7040MT, but I want to add an SSD, it will void the warranty?

All resellers the of Dell (Indonesia) said that it might void the warranty. But I read somewhere in this forum that it would not void the warranty.

Thank you

Hi SAIDBAJRY,

Thanks for joining Dell Community Forum.

If the SSD is purchased through Dell and installed in the system and all the problems occurs because of the SSD, then yes the warranty will be covered (Note: SSDS will have a separate guarantee and not be covered by the warranty of the system).

Now if the SSD is bought from a retailer or dealer, so all the problems that occur due to this component or any problem with the SSD is not covered by warranty.

  • How to add SSD for Optiplex 755 (Small Form Factor)

    Hi-

I want to add a SSD for my Optiplex 755 (Small Form Factor) boot drive while maintaining the HARD disk it came with and the player optical slimline. There is a SATA port on the motherboard, but there is no open Bay and not a lot of room in the chassis (I do not see a power open cable).

Anyone know how or if I can add a SSD to 2.5 inches to this machine? Would need a power splitter? And it's even bothered to improve an Optiplex 755-10 Windows?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Adding a drive in the optical Bay is possible.  But you cannot run without the original hard disk on the desktop SFF and ULTRA-COMPACT models.

  • Help me. Why recovery.txt and Python27 in C after I sent my ACER VN7 - 591 G-77FH to add ssd?

I brought my pc (ACER VN7 - 591 G-77FH) to ACER in order to make it add ssd, check the pc for heating with w10 and usb ports. They said initially they would format the HDD (1 TB) and I would lose my data. I said 'ok '.

Today I went to ACER to get my pc and the guy at the front desk told me that they cleaned the fans and that the problem with my usb ports is software, so that they had to reinstall the operating system.  More, he told me they did a system restore. I asked him what he meant with "recovery", but he did not explain very well (I thought that it was not a pc technician) and told me that they formatted the hard drive and installed the operating system on the ssd.

When I came back home, I turned on my computer and I had to set it up. A configuration screen acer appeared and then w8.1 supposed to be configured with my mail, number mobile password etc....

When I walked into my account, I noticed that in C there is two things:

    (1) there is a txt file named recovery which is empty

    2) there is a folder named Python27 (na not they remove it?) Why?). It looks weird because there are some files (11/03/2016) in date from (tomorrow), while NEWS, LICENSE, python and pythonw are as of 12/05/2015, finally README is dated from 21/11/2015

    So... What did do?

I tried to install w10 from usb to reset everything, but when I start it up, there is only the Boot Manager Windows (Crucial 500blah blah blah blah) in the start menu...

    What can I do?

    Help me

Since you're still running windows 8.1, I suggest you create a recovery media using Acer recovery tool.
Once this is done, you can delete all the partitions on the unit 0 and do a 10 windows clean install.

Is it possible to add a SSD in HP P/N: H5Y85AA Desktop 700-070d and displacement of the BONE to this SSD?

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

Yes, you can clone your current HARD drive to your new SSD, install new SSD on your computer and run it from there. Please note:

(un) Normally smaller SSD (2.5 "vs 3.5") so you need a kit of mounting for her, including the following:

    http://www.eBay.com/Sch/i.html?_sacat=0 & _nkw=2.5%22+to+3.5%22+Mounting+adapter+bracket+SSD & _sac = 1

    (b) when cloning, you may need to select only the OS drive, otherwise it does not unless you have the (larger) SSD. There are many free around software

    http://www.TechRepublic.com/blog/five-apps/five-free-and-reliable-cloning-tools/

and you can also get a kit of cloning of seller for around $10-$15.

  • Satellite P870 - add SSD hard drive is possible? Is it compatible?

    Hello world

I would like to know if you could add an SSD of 256 GB HDD (1 TB) default or not. This upgrade will not work with the default system? Is this system will work well or it may cause technical problems in time?

Please let me know what you think about it. Even if there is a risk very little in the present, I might change my mind.

I look forward to your feedback soon.

    Hello

The SSD should be compatible you need to use a SATA SSD drive since the phone supports a SATA controller
In some cases an update firmware of SSD may be necessary, but this info should be provided by the manufacturers of SSD drives.

  • Add SSD to question dv7t-7300 HP Envy.

I ordered a custom of dv7t-7300 HP Envy. I want to add an SSD, something along the lines of an SSD of 7.5 mm. I just need to know a few things.

    (1) given that the computer just that with a HARD drive (depending on configuration), is the second drive Bay hard to a 'HARD drive enclosure? And if so, should be 7.5 mm 2.5-inch SSD, or it must be a 9.5 mm SSD?

    (2) if the caddy is not included, where can I get one? And should it be a basket, or is it implemented different now?

Any other information you can provide would be great! Thank you.

Nothing like that self-help. Return it. On the back of it is a large "T" plate shaped. Remove the screws, pull it out and look inside. You have two hard drive bays. Are all dv7s to dual hard drives, but the method to connect readers varies a little.

    Manual

See instructions starting on Page 49 of the above link Sevice manual.

An SSD will work in each Bay. I would use the SSD as drive for the operating system to take advantage of the speed of the thing, which is really amazing to see the first time you see it. There is also a place for a WSSD, but there is no need of a GSU if you use an SSD as your primary drive. Still if you want uberstorage you could spend a ton and purchase a 256 GB WSSD and have actually three usable discs.

What model of laptop do you have? What's second location of HARD disk available?

What you need is the HARD disk enclosure. Something like this. It is not easy to know what part number, there, but you can contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and order the right one.

Older versions of Windows offer a product key to activate Windows (as it is written on a sticker COST or built-in BIOS/UEFI).

Windows 10 offers another option, called right digital.

Probably, you had older versions of Windows and free upgrade to win 10. In order to keep your old version keys active Windows, Microsoft enabled Windows 10 using the new method. Win 10 has been activated using Windows 7 or 8 button, then this key would have been valid for the 2 versions of Windows (which is impossible).

More information about this new option:

Maybe you can get temporary, the computer HARD disk and reinstall Windows on the SSD drive. Then you can insert the HDD tray in and when everything is ready, you can format the HARD drive and use it as an extra.

If your computer came with Windows 8.1 or 7 preinstalled and later upgraded to Windows 10, you can use the recovery media to install the previous edition of Windows, and then upgrade to Windows 10

Alternatively, you can try to clone your disk SSD using a software like Clonezilla:

  • e9105z Pavilion Desktop: Add SSD

Can I add usb 3.0? I can add a SSD? How fast - put can I expect? Thank you

    You are welcome!

Yes, if you do not use the HARD drive as a secondary storage unit, you can use the current hard drive cables. However, if you wish, you can use the devices in your system.

The OS will start faster with an SSD. To complete any task related operating system that needs to recover data from the disk, it will be more fast compared to the speed of your HARD drive. The faster random read and write speeds will be an improvement of the load time of your applications, if they are installed on the SSD.

Update: I thought that it was portable average size but it of a laptop thin and seems your limit at just the 1 TB HARD drive or you can swap out to a 1 TB SSD but I also what HP says about the laptop.

"1 TB 5400 RPM SATA; Flash cache: 8 GB; The flash cache module is designed to accelerate the experience of response of the system and cannot be used as extra storage. It is not removable by and not accessible to the user. »

So your expansion options may be limited. Much will depend on what size is the 1 TB of HARD drive that is currently in it right now you need to find an SSD that fits this same dimension to replace the original HARD drive that is there. But what they have now is 1 TB SSD and SSD 2 TB are quite expensive and I do not know how it dimension compared to the CT 1 SSD drives.

  • Envy 17-n100nl: Envy 17-n100nl disassemble to add ssd

    Hello world

I just bought an HP ENVY 17-n100nl laptop, and I wanted to update to add a SSD memory. I know that it is possible to add it instead of the appropriate optical unit with the caddy, but I saw that another possibility would be to add to the second internal drive Bay. I'm having some trouble of disassembly of the pc: as you can see in the photo, the lower part of the PC is a continuous part (unlike many other portable HP where RAM and HARD drive are easy access) and even without caps base left and right (unlike the other Envy 17 I found instructions how to disasseble http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/globalcitizenship/environment/productdata/Countries/_MultiCountry/disassemb... So my question is: How can I do? Are there instructions from HP (I looked in this page http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/globalcitizenship/environment/productdata/disassemblynotebook-o.html , but none of the solutions listed for laptops ENVY 17 apply to mine).

Thank you all for the support,

  • XPS 8900 add SSD

I ordered the basic 8900 with i7, 1 to 8 MB. I noticed that a particular option at the point where that I ordered came with an SSD and more the 1 TB accompanying most.

To save a few bucks, I ordered a 500 GB Samsung SSD and would like to know what is the best way to add the disk. Can I leave the original installation that is and add the SSD as a secondary drive or should I do a clean install of the OS on the SSD and make drive C?

    All the advice sincerely appreciated.

    Hi Willdloy,

I would recommend a clean install on the SSD AFTER you create a set of recovery disks and make sure you have the installation programs for your hardware drivers and applications installed Dell. The recovery disks will allow you to restore the operating system on the original disk of 1 TB or 1 or more to large disc replacement when it becomes necessary. Unfortunately, you cannot restore your original to the 500 GB SSD image, because it is smaller than the original drive. Please refer to the operating system installation guide I linked to below for instructions.
