Adding a hard drive to a guest operating system

Delema:

I need to add a hard drive that is big enough in our machine esx which is formatted to NTFS and the accessible car from a guest operating system to Server 2 k 3. (working on a budget here) its 1.5 to and is full of about 80%.

Basically, I need to know whether or not its possible to add this drive without formatting and accessible by the guest operating system

I understand now - you will not be able to take out the drive and add it to your ESX Server and be able to access the store data NTFS and Yes using Converter requires a data store with the 1.5 TB or necessary for the new drive - virtual

The main cloud Creative program must be installed on your system's main drive - then you can't have the whole installation on a separate disk.  Applications can be installed on a different disk.

  • How can I make visible iscsi drive to a guest operating system?

    Hello

I have (AFAIK) working between our Poweredge 1850 servers and our AX150i iSCSI

I have two vswitches implemented, each using a different network and on different networks. I can see my LUN and everything seems ok.

In stock, I created two storage devices and am now looking to get this visible to my guest as a local disk operating system, so I can use them. It's the part that I am confused on that I see no way to do this.

If I remember correctly, on our physical hosts as soon as I assigned virtual disks to servers, they have become visible to the OS and I left.

I've attached screenshots of my main screens.

Also, is this the right command to save my config servers (I'm on windows):

    vicfg - cfgbackup.pl - server & lt; Ip_serveur & gt; s & lt; filename & gt;

    Thanks (again).

    Hello

I think you are trying to create a virtual hard drive as opposed to a raw disk mapping (RDM).

If this is the case then what you need to do is change the settings of the virtual machine by right-clicking on the corresponding to your OS virtual computer that needs to access the disk asked again.

Add a new device, select a hard drive, choose Create a new virtual disk, select the size you want and the data store that you want it to be on. The rest you can leave the default, check the summary reflects what you want and press Finish.

Yes, it should work without major problems.

In the worst cases, you need to update to a couple of pilots.

  • Installation hard drive with Windows XP operating system in another computer

Why can't I remove the hard drive with Windows XP already active and install in another computer?

No, you need to reinstall the operating system.  However, if XP and vista came with the computer as OEM software, it cannot be legally activated.  The reason why it does not is the difference in hardware.

  • How to move data from the old hard drive to a new operating system, games, songs, vista etc.

you want to install more hard drive. How can I move all of the data, os, games, music, etc.

    and have computer always starts.

    Hello

You cannot move by themselves programs

you need to reinstall it from the original media

read this about moving everything, including the operating system

or save your data and reinstall clean vista

There are different ways to do

hard drive manufacturers will normally provide the cloning software to move your operating system installed from the old to the new hard disk

Search for information on this subject on their Web site

If you have vista business or ultimate, you can use the builtin vista complete PC Backup to move

    read the information below

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial145.html

or if you have vista home version you'll need 3rd party software

link below is an example of this:

    http://www.Acronis.com/homecomputing/products/TrueImage/index.html

also to put your machine how you bought:

    1. that vista is preinstalled, you should have a recovery on your old hard drive partition

You can recovery disks to reinstall on your new hard drive

ask the manufacturer of the machine how

    2. contact the computer manufacturer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

    3. or borrow a microsoft dvd vista

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

Save all data, because it will be lost, do the above

    Hello.

I'm having a problem loading and using my Adobe Photoshop CS3. This is the third time that I use this forum. I us a PC. The operating system is "Microsoft Windows 7 Home prem". I recently had to remove from my hard drive and reload the operating system with all the updates and load to the top of my existing software. All my software works except my Photoshop CS3, which I use most. I loaded the software disc and download online. The system of charge very well and activation is complete.  Here are the main things that don't work properly, I have noticed so far. First of all, I can't open my camera RAW (I can with my Lightroom software, but not with my Photoshop software?). So I can't open any of my files of digital camera? Second, I can open a .jpeg file and use the Photoshop software and I can save the changes, but when I turn off my calculated the software doesn't seem to be on my computer. When I go to Windows ' search program and files "software is not located here. When I go to "Uninstall" the software of the foldername is there it is. "Photoshop CS3" but there isn't any size file to it IE 400 MB, while my software "Lightroom" on the 'uninstall' section will have a file for example size 400 MB tied to it. Thirdly, I also have a photosoftware of B + W, which operated in Photoshop; It's "NIK software - Silver Efex Pro" and it is located in the subtitle of 'filter' of Photoshop CS3. I use Silver Efex and all functions are working properly, but I can't save the file, it does not save the changes to save.

    Please can you help me.

    Thank you.

  • Does anyone know the hard drive id assignment in windows guest operating system.

I have a guest operating system windows 2003 host VMware ESX 3.5 U4.

There are 4 new added HDD by using configuration settings for this virtual machine.

    2 SCSI hard disk 0:1

    3 SCSI hard disk 0:2

    4 SCSI hard disk 0:3

    hard drive 5 SCSI 1:0

And then in windows 2003, these four hard drives have been recognized as disc 1-Disc 4 with new Volume F, E, H, G.

So my question is how much is hard disk scsi 2 0:1?

    What is the relationship?

Depending on your response, I think that following the relationship, is this correct?

    Fix.

  • Problems adding a hard drive to a Windows 2003 client

I am trying to add a hard drive to a guest VM on a host running ESXi 4.1.0 standard. It is a historical system that we must keep and maintain for another 1 & 1/2 years. There are 15 comments on this host.  The local database has 1.63 TB of storage with 868,85 Go free. All comments thick supply usage.

The prompt, I work with is a Windows 2003 R2, 32-bit, Service Pack 2, Standard Edition.  Currently, I have two drives C: = 80 GB, & E: = 20 GB. I am trying to add a third hard drive of 300 GB.  When I try to add the 300 GB drive, I get the following error message. "Disk capacity was not properly formatted or was out of reach.  It has been replaced by the nearest acceptable value. " Value, it is replaced by what is 256 GB.

I used the same Windows operating system to create three other similar servers with the largest hard drive = 100 GB C:, E: = 100 GB, & F: = 1.5 to.  Microsoft's web site, said that this operating system can handle 2 TB of storage.  The only difference with the other hosts three, that's they run vSphere 5.5.

The size of the block of your VMFS datastore is the limiting factor, the bottom suggest that your datastore to VMFS-3 has been configured with 1 MB block size where the maximum virtual hard disk and the file size would be 256Go.

See below for the limits provided by VMFS-2 and VMFS-3 block sizes.

  • DV7-6c95dx: ADDING 2nd HARD DRIVE WE DV7

ADDING 2ND HARD DRIVE - IT DOES NOT APPEAR UNDER MY COMPUTER - I DON'T KNOW IF SA FORMATTING OR NOT - CAN GET SOME DIRECTIONS - THANK YOU

How did you add it? Where's the hardware mounting hard disk? In any State of cause, assuming that you have installed a hard drive was bought, it would be empty and needs be initialized (mounted) and formatted. To find computer or this PC in the right click menu... Choose manage, disk management and you will see a Visual representation of the hard drives. It can automatically prompts you to initialize the disk. Once do you that and format it in ntfs and assign a drive letter and the name of the volume, it will appear in the computer as a lettered drive.

  • Guest operating system is hard duplicate files

The guest operating system has 4 virtual drives mapped on it (36 GB, 36 GB, 146 GB and 17 GB), they're all on the same data store.

I recently ran into a problem of the short of space data store and noticed that this server has files vmdk file duplicate for each of these disks (as shown in the attached picture).  I'm guessing that VDR create snapshots, and it has messed up at one point (VDR does not currently work for this server).

    The original vmdk files were:

    cnmonitoring1_1.VMDK

    cnmonitoring1_2.VMDK

    The news are:

    cnmonitoring1 - 000001.vmdk

    cnmonitoring1_1 - 000002.vmdk

    etc...

It seems that all virtual disks are mapped to the new vmdk files.

I need to get this server cleaned, so I can reclaim space.  The data store is a total size of 500 GB and all the servers on this data bank should be around 350 GB, but I currently only 42 GB free because of this server.

    Thanks in advance,

    Matt

    Welcome to the community.

    These files are snapshot files.

Have you consolidates your wink, but you need to free up space.

Or you can clone your virtual machine in another data store (this will consolidate the last State).
