Adding an SSD to a XPS 435MT

Hi all

I would like to replace my boot partition of Windows 7 HD with an SSD for my XPS 435MT. In my opinion, than the XPS 435MT to maximally compatible SATA-2 natively.

Other than the SSD and wiring, what should I upgrade the XPS to support SATA-3 of 6 GB/s speeds? Is it still possible?

Kind thanks,

Daniel

Interface SATA of XPS 435MT is limited to 3 GB/s by its material, but it will always accept players that are capable of 6 GB/s.  Highest, 6 Gbit/s interface speed requires that became available with the XPS 8300 Sandy Bridge architecture.

  • Last steps to install an SSD in a XPS 435MT (Windows 7 64-bit)?

I found a very good price on two SSDs - so I bought it, thinking I could install at least one of them in my XPS 435MT. They will arrive today.

I also want to add a Blu - ray (player, at least) Player to this system. (Suggestions)? While seeking advice on this, I came across a forum detailed post making it clear to me that adding SSD to the XPS 435MT system is not so easy.

It's been well over a year since the above post has been updated. Are the steps that are always accurate? Are there any updates? For example, the message includes a link to the Intel Matrix Storage Manager for Microsoft Windows driver; However, the page that indicates that it is valid for the "Intel Server System SR1680MV. Is this still required driver? Is Microsoft difficulty he always required 50470?

I want to preserve my finely tuned Windows 7 environment, if possible. My system currently has two hard drives of 500 GB (C: and D :), a DVD - ROM (g) and a DVD - RW (w). Currently, I have all my Windows libraries on the D: drive. I am considering making it one of the new SSD the C: drive, using Paragon to migrate the content of HARD C: for the SSD drive. There is perhaps not a need for the existing C: HDD after that; Besides, I may even need to remove the HARD drive in order to have a Bay to install the SSD/support. I intend to replace one of the DVD writers with the Blu - ray player.

    All comments are welcome!

UPDATE: I called a crucial technical support informing them that their advisor of SSD is in offline mode. The technician I spoke with knew very well what I'm trying to accomplish. According to him, there is no need to install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager - driver as the native Windows driver should be enough. I'll do an OS migration - so in this case, perhaps, the native Windows driver is not present?

    Chris,

You only need to run 'fix' If your BIOS is currently set to ATA and you will have to change to RAID. If you are already set up to RAID, you will not have this difficulty. However, I would make sure you run the latest version of the Intel RST (this replaces the former matrix storage driver).

I think your plan is fine, except that I would simply connect the SSD to a SATA, not a USB adapter port. Boot from Paragon Disk or flash drive, depending on what you got and run the clone operation.

Most of the people who swap HDDs to SSDS retain their hard drives for data. Keep this in mind for your planning.

I think that most of the problems of performance with SSDS just frankly cloning a Windows installation that is congested or possibly running in ATA mode. That's why I went to the trouble to do a clean install. It's a little more forward work, but now I have an image of the installation with my drivers and applications that I can restore to the DSS at any time in a few minutes.

  • Adding additional SSD for dell xps 15 with 256 GB SSD

Hi, I just bought a dell xps 15 9550 with 6th gen i7, 8 GB of RAM, and 256 GB ssd. Is it possible to add an additional SSD for the location of hard disk 2.5 inches remaining. If possible do I need to buy the cable for SSD too or is that what cable already included here?

    Thanks in advance,

There is a support and a set of rubber bumper needed to connect a disk 2.5 "hard.  In general, these are not delivered with the system unless it is controlled with a hard drive - you must remove the base of the cover to check if - some reports are that some versions can be delivered with the necessary equipment.  If not, they are likely available from spare parts from Dell and from other sources such as EBay and third Dell parts suppliers such as share - People.com.

  • Problem adding Crucial SSD M500 to XPS 8600

Help!  I have a brand new XPS 8600, with Windows 7 Professional, 64-Bit, Service Pack 1.  I improved the 24 GB RAM and tried to install a Crucial M500 480 GB SSD.

    Wow!  A series of fails!

First of all, I ran the diagnostics and all past edge.  Second, I ran MemTest 86 + on the cylinder several times through, with zero errors.  Thirdly, I ran Seagate SeaTools Diagnostics on the hard drive of the factory, and it passes even the extended test.

I updated the BIOS to A06.  I've updated the firmware factory hard drive Seagate of CC47 to CC49.  I checked that the Crucial M500 has the latest firmware MU03.

Then I put the latest Windows first, as well as the latest video, audio, technology Intel Rapid Storage Technology and Intel USB 3.0 for this model of Dell drivers.  Basically, any driver who was A01 and A02, leaving all the original A00 only drivers.

Then I installed the SSD drive.  First of all, I initialized and then formatted.  Oops!  Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) appears once I confirmed the format, 0x0000004A, with IRQL_GT_ZERO_AT_SYSTEM_SERVICE header code.  Of course, he appeared in the NTOSKern.exe.  I used the Blue Screen Viewer and which crashed on this issue, but was not much information.

If I swapped the cables to the drive.  Same result, if the SSD was on SATA0 or SATA1.  I went back to the only factor RAM.  Same result.  I have that reversed in slots 3 and 4 instead of 1 and 2.  Same result.  I pulled the RAM factory and put only the Kingston XPS 16 GB RAM Kit new in.  Same result, either pair of RAM slots.

I pulled the SSD and put it in an old PC.  He formatted very well.  I cloned my main drive to it and then booted from it.  I ran for four hours, running several browsers and programs all the time and even to stop twice, but also just rebooted once and never had a single error.  If the SSD itself is fine.

So now, I thought that maybe the video driver was a problem.  I downloaded the latest driver for the Radeon HD 7570 AMD and installed.  Same result once again.  So I thought that maybe one of the other updated drivers has been a problem, or an update of Windows, so I restored to factory.  And I did all the updates.  And I still get this BSOD when I even try to format this SSD.

I buy the wrong computer (CPU i7-4770)?  I buy the wrong SSD (most M500 480 GB SSD)?  Is there a conflict known between Dell and this player or M500 series disc SSD Crucial?  Would it be the custom Marvell controller that uses Crucial?  Should I go to the Samsung 840 Pro or Evo?  Or an OCZ Vertex 4?

Help!  Can someone direct me to the right solution?  Thank you in advance and God bless!  Chuck

P.S. forgot to mention that I get the same BSOD, 0x0000004A, with IRQL_GT_ZERO_AT_SYSTEM_SERVICE header, even if I try to install for the SSD with the factory recovery disks.

Yes, Dell went under a policy of reduction in green for some so-called policies OEM media. He was however imposed by Microsoft as Dell shipped resources DVD without Windows reinstallation DVD.

You are lucky in the fact that you have a new system and therefore are in the United States, media request of DVD of relocation by using this online form:

    http://en.community.Dell.com/support-forums/software-OS/f/3526/t/19525677.aspx

Even if you feel that you don't need, I recommend the query while the guarantee comes just in case where.

Do not select a USB because it is perhaps not as clean as the DVD of resettlement and this system has an optical drive. Also a reinstallation DVD cannot be formatted. The alternative is to use the .isos of Digital River.

  • XPS 435MT SSD

Hi I am trying to install an SSD for my XPS 435MT PC.  Samsung 830 series.  I need but the PC in AHCI mode.  My bios doesn't have SATA or Raid.  Technical support Dell says to select SATA.  I select the SATA in the bios disconnected all other HD and connect the SSD.  A clean installation of windows 7. I have not seen any improvement in my system.  A ran the landmarks window and if the same results as my hard drive. A ran Samsung Software Wizard to optimize the drive and the operating system.  He keep reports that PC was not in AHCI mode.  Is there another setting in the BIOS I missed.  I have to do a manual tweak for Windows 7.

I just got a Samsung 850 Evo 120 GB SSD installed today on my Dell XPS 435MT. My Setup was a single 500 GB HDD with about 100 MB partition for windows C:, E: recovery partition and a D: big data partition
I followed the basic process has been
    1. Install two software provided by Samsung
    2. Shut down the system.
    3. Disconnect the DVD player and plug the SSD instead. I did it mainly because I don't have a spare SATA cable. I'll have to buy one soon. For now, I used my DVD / BD drive since I almost never use the player.
    4. In the BIOS, I changed IDE RAID, but which caused a reboot so I changed it to the way it was.
    5. Started in Windows as usual and did the cloning using the migration software, I installed in step 1.
    6. Cloning overcome in 11 minutes for about 40 gigabytes of disk C:
    7. After cloning, I was prompted to restart
    8. In the BIOS I put the SSD - fundamentally changed the boot sequence starts
    9. Restarted
    10. My SSD Windows is running. My old Windows partition was placed under C: to F:. New windows of my SSD received the letter of C: drive
    11. Did a check on the performance
    12. I got a number around 180 MB/s and about 250 MB/s for reads and writes respectively
    13. At performance tuning and optimization of the BONE
    14. Now, reading and writing is far beyond the real specs. I get 2500 and 2100 respectively. I still see the magician telling me that I should be in AHCI mode. I don't know what will happen if I try to put in a RAID. At step 4 I tried, but Windows wouldn't start. System should restart every time.

I am satisfied with the improvement of the initial performance I see.

It took me just 1 hour to do the foregoing.

  • HP Pavilion Elite HPE-540me: adding an SSD (SATA III) for HP Elite desktop computer. Is this possible?

    Dear Experts...

I want to upgrade my computer by adding an SSD as a master drive and move the original 2 TB drive to be a slave.

I found several coices of SSDS, but almost all of them are SATA III interface.

Is my office supports this interface? as it is just written that it has a SATA interface without specifying what version of SATA!

How many hard drives could this office holds? I already have two (the original 2 TB and my old drive 256 GB) and I wand to add a SSD for Windows and the progs.

Can I purchase this SSD for example? Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-series 500 GB 2.5 inch SATA III single-unit Version internal Solid State...

It is the official my desktop HP specifications page .

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello

It has 2 bays free HARD disk as on its specifications:

    http://h20564.www2.HP.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docid=emr_na-c02781215

You can trade SSDS on your machine and make the old HDD as a secondary drive ("slave"). SATA III is backwards compatible so you can use it. Since then have been smaller SSD (normally 2.5 "), something that is similar to one of the following media:

  • The Studio XPS 435MT graphics card upgrade

    Hi all

I have a Dell Studio XPS 435mt with these specs:

    Intel Core I7 2.67 ghz

    6 GB of RAM

ATI Radeon HD 4570 512 MB graphics card (it's the original one)

I got nothing so far, but now I want to change the graphics card because I want to play games that require higher performance, I play with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 (1080 p).

So what do you suggest me? What is the best graphics card can I take, compatible with the studio 435mt?

I don't want to change the other components (and I mean the PSU in particular) I don't want to change the graphics card.

So what is the graphics card that pushes the limit of this computer?

    I have another question.

I bought this computer in Italy and it's because I'm Italian xD.

Now I'm in Boston for the summer holidays and I would buy the card here. There is a compatibility problem between Italian and American computers?

I mean the GPU are all the same despite the country or there are a few differences to take into account?

I'm sorry if I am repetitive, but I don't know if my questions are clear and understandable.

    Thanks for your help!

    I have no budget.

True, but even once, why would you spend $129 when the same one that costs only $89 HERE at Newegg.  Personally, I wouldn't put a high end as the HD 6970 card in your system, but it is up to you.  For me, just is not there, but I know that others have fact.   Cards more recent performance today they run cooler and are smaller than the last generation.  I know there are people who have put in the hot and power hungry GTX 295 in this system.  If you want a high end card without going overboard, take a look at the HD 6850 and HD 6870.  However, if you have money, you can do whatever you want if you use an i7 processor to go with it.  I'm just a little at low cost.

  • Adding an SSD on my PC without having to replace the HARD drive

    Greetings!

I have a HP Pavilion Elite HPE - 180 t desktop PC with Windows 7 64 bit installed.  I do a good amount of games on my PC and a year ago I upgraded my card to an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 graphics and my diet to a Thermaltake TR2 RX 750W unit.  I also have a card mother mATX (9.6 "x 9.6") of PEGATRON.

Recently, I tried adding an SSD for my machine in order to improve the performance and organisation for some PC games that I love.  I did some research on the subject and am found a bit confused on whether or not, my motherboard will be able to handle the addition of an SSD in my machine.  I have read that I need you sure that my motherboard supports natively AHCI?  How can I check to be sure that if I buy an SSD that I'll be able to integrate it into my system?

To be clear, I want to continue to use my disk regularly to run my operating system and all the other goodies on my PC and install an SSD for store and load my music/movies/games etc.  I was watching some affordable 'mushkin' SSD that seem to do the trick.  I can give the link for more later if necessary.  Thanks for your help!

    Hello

F10 to the HP splash screen you will get in the bios.

AHCI is recommended for use with an SSD, but it is not necessary. Most modern SSDS are supported operation garbage collection which does almost the same thing to maintain the SSD.  Check with the manufacturer of your SSD.

Even if the SATA controller is set to RAID and the SSD doesn't not part of an active array, topping should always work.

A few weeks ago, my PC started starting the morning only insofar as a solid pale orange/orange

  • Upgrade GPU for Studio XPS 435MT and indine power load max

Hi, I have a Studio XPS 435MT with a 360W power supply and an ati radeon HD4800 series GPUs (likely a 4850). I want to improve the gpu with a gpu from Gainward GeForce GTX 750 2 GB (one slot), GDDR5. It uses just 55W and there is no external power supply plug, the HD4800, but in the GTX card appears: minimum 300W or more system power supply (with a minimum of 12V current rating of 20A). And I do not know if this 20 a could be a problem, because my Delta DPS-360FB-1 diet doesn't seem to reach the rated current.

    What do you suggest me?

    Thank you

combined maximum 12V 12VA and 12VB output for this unit is 300W which is 25, but you can't have your cake and eat it too.

If you draw 20 amps on the 12v rail you used 240W leaving 60W for everything else that needs 12V.

And if you use 300W on the 12v rail that leaves 60W max for the 5v / 3.3V through less 10W to + 5VSB.

GTX 750 will be in this case either well, or it does not at all due to the lack of power on one or more tracks.

HD4850 certainly consumes MORE energy than a GTX750 so that only one point of view, it should be good.

  • Graphics upgrade Dell Studio XPS 435MT

    Model: Studio XPS 435MT
    Processor: Intel Core i7
    Memory: 8 GB
    OS: Windows 64-bit
Case: In Stock (never did a switch box but would be ready)

Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 4350 512 MB 2
Power: 550w (honestly the first upgrade I did)

I pulled a lot of games for this thing, and it has served me very well. I am looking to do an update of basic graphics card but want to stay under $ 300.00, I don't want to go too big or too hot for the system (or unnecessarily powerful but I'm okay with that, like if this happens).

I am also ready to increase the ram, but once again to 8 GB I don't know if I'd get a vein off going up to 16 GB, but at the end of the day it's a learning experience and the installation is always fun.

Also, I'm ready to tell is don't bother, if it would be better to buy a new system, so I can actually consider doing that but shaped why can't not ask like you people seem quite knowledgeable GD.

EPS 12V 2.91 compliance means you should be able to use most of the maps, if the power supply is really high spec.

  • The upgrade of my XPS 435mt CPU

Does anyone know if the processor on the XPS 435mt (bought in 2010) can be upgraded to a new processor generation 3rd i7 - or if the motherboard would be able to accept anything newer than the 2.67Ghz that I come to the Board of Directors - he slowed way and I thought buy an i7 would keep at least going me for a few years...?  Any ideas or suggestions?  If I have to replace the motherboard to upgrade of processor - has someone at - he tried this successfully?  What motherboard do you have had success with.  I use the computer mainly for video editing of home movies... and internet surfing - just seems like he has really slowed down... Thank you

    T Hutchems

Sorry to revive an old topic but I am also wanting to upgrade my cpu to the 965 920 (as above). It would simply be a Plug - and play Exchange with nothing else to do? Well well, after a BIOS update? And I'd love any transfer to a new, more general cases.

    T Hutchems

    Yes.

But, before you install the new processor, verify that the latest BIOS is installed.

When a processor or a radiator is removed, replaced or reused, it is advisable to clean both and reapply a paste heat, as indicated.

Instructions for cleaning and application of thermal paste, are HERE.

Only a small tube of thermal paste is required, this can be bought from any store of the local computer, or online.

  • Studio XPS 435MT used to power on

My 2 year old Dell Studio XPS 435MT does not illuminate.  This happened after a short break.  The PC is connected to a surge protector at the time of the failure.  When I try it on, the power button blinks orange and fans to contract.  The fans tremble twice when the power button is pressed - as it tries to start - but he'll nothinhg beyond that.  I have a green light solid on food and a solid amber light on the motherboard.  There is no change of material to this PC.

Further investigation revealed that the food was good.  I have re-installed THE connections/cards and tried to turn on the unit by disconnecting the components (fans, disks, vid card, etc) one at a time to try to isolate the problem.  I also tried a known working video card.  No matter what I did, it will not turn on.  Same fan tics.  I bought a new computer, removed the hard drive and successfully files retrieved from it using a docking station.  I didn't belive the hard drive was the culprit here.  All the indications stated on the motherboard, so I bought a new (exact same manufacturer / plug).

The new motherboard was going in and connections were verified tripple.  The PC then propelled straight up.  The computer normally acted through a series of restarts.  I thought that I had this figured out and I was very happy because I liked this computer - but not so fast!  When I stop the PC completely and tried to power on, I got exactly the same problem.  And exactly the same problem no matter what outlet, I used.

Well, I thought that the food was maybe defective and I tried a new.  Nope - still no luck with that.  I heard that remove and then reinstall the CMOS/BIOS battery has worked for others, so I tried.  Of course - it worked.  The PC starts, but I have to restore the default BIOS settings.  After shutting down, it will still not be able to save, however, without resetting the battery.  As a last effort, I replaced the battery and, of course, who did nothing.

Please help me because I really don't want to play with that battery every time there is a power failure or stop and I need to get the new card mother $150.00 returned as soon as POSSIBLE if the computer is off help.  Thank you!!!

Thanks for the suggestion - just replaced the power supply with a 600W Corsair after that first try everything and now the system works very well once more.

Before replacing, I tested the original power supply and found to work (short circuit green wire with the black) and also tried to isolate the component problem outside the MoBo, but couldn't find any cause.

I have however noticed that power (at the back of the old PSU) light flickered weakly even if system was off - on the test PSU power LED blinking not.
