Adding photos in folders already in the catalog

If I've already imported a folder of photos from my hard drive in Lr,

and then I add or remove photos in this folder on my hard drive.

These changes will be reflected in the Lr catalog?

Do I need to perform a procedure of Lr to update changes in

make folders from the hard drive already in the catalogue, or no Lr

This automatically?

Lightroom is not a file Explorer. He doesn't know what photos have been added to a folder. You need to tell Lightroom to each import new photos, or synchronize the file. Of the two, I recommend you import (does not synchronize) because will synchronize also remove photos from Lightroom if they do not appear in this folder (and so you lose your changes and metadata provided by the user) and for many people, this is an undesirable side effect of synchronize.

However, I don't really like the idea of adding pictures into existing folders; for me it's easier and makes more sense to create a new folder for each new batch of imports (so to avoid problems with synchronization and minimizing human error) and then use Lightroom tools such as keywords and other metadata to organize and find.

System: Windows 7, 32 Bit Core2Duo w / 2 GB of Ram, LightRoom 5.5 connected to a Nikon D5200 for captive capture & review only.  Currently, we have records of 1727 and 5530 photos in the catalog.

We use this system to take images of product for a Web site, and the images are stored on a mapped drive file server.   Today trying to examine some of the most recent photos would not select file/open the pictures (but you could see the first image in the file in the preview window).   I was running LR 5.3 so I upgraded to 5.5 to see if that would solve the problem but it didn't.   I am able to see the pictures if I click on the root folder and it works as expected.

Folders/old photos that they function as they should him, but everything made after Monday did not work. (Monday is also be the last day was made a backup of the catalog).   When I return to the Monday backup all the files/images work.  When I try to import the missing files/images in the Monday backup, I have the same problem at the same point.  I have tried to create a new catalog from scratch and I have the same problem, however the "break point" (where I see is no longer records) changed a file earlier [in the series].

I can browse the mapped network drive and see all the folders/photos without problem.  I also tried to synchronize folders and optimize the catalog, but none had any effect.

I hit some kind of folder limit?  I read there was no 'hard' mail file/folder limit, but with the way it is, it's almost as if I found a hidden folder limit.

It's rare to have that many records, so I think it's a limit to the size of the user interface on Windows.

  • My raw D7200 photos do not appear in the catalog but my D7000 are.

I can import it, edit and export the photos of my D7200, but they do not appear in the catalog folders in Lightroom. I have Lightroom CC and Windows 8.2. When I try to re-import them, it is said that they apparently are duplicates of those already in the catalog, but they are nowhere to be seen. If I import with the D7000, they show in the file immediately.

Check your setting to import when importing this D7200 camera images. Check the location for the same thing. Check if a preset is applied.

To find this folder, they go to right click on one of the images D7200 and select Show in Finder/Explorer (according to your operating system), and a file Manager window opens in the folder in which it is located. Search for this file in the folder list in the LR library module (must be there).

  • How to import matches external selection to images already in the catalog?

I have a selection of highlights that have been created outside the Lr, but the content is already in the catalog. Now, I want to have the nail inside Lr as a collection, but how to make the choice of the highlights in Lr?

It seems that the pictures of the "Star" are not in a Lightroom Catalog and copies are moved to another computer (although the original photos are indeed in a Lightroom Catalog). If this is correct, then I don't think Ian suggestion would work. It may be possible to create a small catalogue from the 'flagship' pictures and then file-> import from catalog.

From the library module, look for the image with the same filename and see where LR think there already.

  • Adding files in a catalogue where the catalog suspect duplicates?

    Hello

I searched for the answer to this but I just have to be bad thinking.

Last year, I had a hard drive crash and I was restore some of my photos from backup.  In one case, I have a folder in my structure of the catalogue showing a sub-folder.  However, if I look at the hard drive, there are several folders.

    Essentially:

    Catalogue:

    2008

    2008-04-25

    Hard drive:

    2008

    2008-01-25

    2008-01-31

    etc.

I would have thought 'easy import', right?  Well, the problem is that my catalog shows all the duplicate and existing photos in the catalogue then if I try to import with "don't import suspected duplicates", then I end up with two of each file.

What is the appropriate way to restore files in the catalog?  Or I just thought the answer to my own question, and I have to import and 'Add' instead of moving or copying?

    Thank you!

Use a filename from the "problem files" and find it in Lightroom using the text filter, then select file name.

Also post a screenshot of your library like that...

I worked on some pictures in the last two weeks and noticed that some images in my library were AWOL. I'm looking for a specific and know the name of the file. When I search by filename in the entire library, no results are returned (see below).

  • Re-importation of the pictures already in the catalog

I'm trying to re - import photos that have been moved from my old Mac G5 to my new mac.  They were previously in Adobe PhotoAlbum.

Because the photos are not in the records of the date in the folder "photosfromG5/2001", I would like to re - import to a new location in the catalog, for example.» 2001 and having LR automatically creates metadata for example date records. 31/05/2001

I do successfully a few months ago using the feature import and make and it worked fine.  Now after a few months, I can't do the same thing!

Any suggestions? I use LR 3.4.1

    Thank you

    Denise

    Denise,

I think you need to move the images first to a different location (or rename the folder containing temporarily) and uncheck the box 'Don't Import suspected double'.

  • Adding photos to an album with the help of editing in the browser with Adobe Muse

Is it true that you cannot "add photos" in a photo gallery light box to help in the edition browser? If it is possible, how? If not, what other options do you have to allow customers to add pictures on their site?

It is true that in the edition browser does not allow for the addition/removal of images of slide shows and galleries. We are studying how to make that possible for a future version, but do not have a timetable for such a release right now.

To work around this deficiency, other users have chosen to reproduce images in the slide show with the intension to have customers to replace double with new images.

    Example:

    • Create a slideshow with images A, B and C
    • Add the same images again slide show now has a total of six images: A, B, C, A, B, C
    • With In-Browser editing, replace one of the image of A this will remain unchanged.
  • How to rename the files already in the catalog?

I accidentally imported a large amount of images in LR 2.5 (on a new Windows 7 machine) using the "Filename" model rather than my customary model 'Date - Filename' and did a LOT of work on the files until I noticed the error.  Is there any way I can reapply the model Date-name of the file or otherwise to precede the date (as planned) for the names of files in LR and on my drive in one fell swoop?

    Select the pictures, press f2.

  • Find photos not in the catalog

Lightroom has a way of search directories for the photos not already in the catalog? I use Lightroom 3.4 and updated my catalog of PSE9. Looking through the folders in the library module I see upcoming pictures like 'new' that PSE MUST have had in them, but obviously did not. I want to these folders to import anything not already in the research library.

Synchronize the folder (from the context menu of a folder) impeccable.

  • message error "the file is associated with another photo in the catalog.

CC of LR, windows, photos on external hard drive

Files that I was still using yesterday now are more connected to the catalog.  Try to locate the files I get the message "the file is associated with another photo in the catalog. How can I find and solve.

    Thank you

This is because this same image, same time date and time of the device, is already in the catalog using a different file name.

Conversely having not happening again is to STOP Renaming files on import or manually in the file manager or with another image, software.

Each camera has a system that can be customized if necessary if you have 2 cameras of the same brand and model of separate file naming. And even then, they are separated by the serial number of each camera.

  • Missing previews at the catalog level and by car.  Cannot use filters at this level.  Missing files.

With the help of LR4 (not 4.1) and Win7 Home Premium.

Catalog has been updated to LR3 and LR4 catalog worked very well so far. I use LR since the beginning.

Two problems, probably.  106K photos on two discs, almost 3 TB.

He has not realized at the level of the catalog.  Normally the previews of pictures of 106K would appear. Message is "Click on the"Import"button to begin."  Filter function does not work the Message: "no photo matching the filter.

He has not seen at the level of the road.  Message is 'No photos in the selected folder' filter does not work Message: 'no picture matching the filter.

At the folder level, all right, but two records give the same message "No pictures in the folder selected" filter does not work in these two folders: Message: 'no photos matching the filter' 14K photos between two bad records

Dozens, hundreds of other files and subfolders are fine. Filter function works fine at the level of folder and subfolder.

The collections are very good, including photos in both files, which gives the message "no pictures in the folder selected.

    What I did:

The LR4 is uninstalled and reinstalled twice.

    Download and install own LR4.

    Same problems

Tried to import the missing files.  Don't import because they are already in the catalog.  Don't import even if I uncheck "do not import suspected duplicates."

Exported in the form of a catalog, one of the folders 'no pictures in the folder selected.  It appeared to create a viable catalog with previews, search filters, etc..  I edited some photos with no problems.  Although it gives a message saying that extracted hundreds were missing.  But they seem to be there anyway.

Delete the folder catalog and imported catalog catalog of working folder that I just created.

    Same problems.

Exported as a catalogue of the different folder of "no pictures in the folder selected.  Same result as the first record of bad.  For example, it appeared to create a viable catalog with previews, search filters, etc..  Although it gives a message saying that extracted hundreds were missing.  But they seem to be there anyway.

Does not do anything with this second folder catalog.  Intriguing, the same message on missing previews.

Real and *.xmp files are in bad records.

    Now what?

Discovery of a thread in this forum.  Known issues fixed in 4.1 beta.  Upgrade to LR4.1 and the problem is solved.

  • What is the catalog in Lightroom? is that what I imported pictures

I'm trying to import a photo, but when I try to import Lightroom says that it is already in the catalog. I can't find a way to search the catalog for the image I'm looking for. Under Catalog in Lightroom, there is a folder called all photographs. It says I have 37 757 photos. Did somehow inadvertently import everything on my computer? Thank you.

There used to be a great set of tutorials made by a man named George. They were the best tutorials for a novice to use Lightroom, but I can't find them more.

Thanks JimHess. This Adobe TV link has been a great help. I would have to argue, however, that the catalogue is a compilation of all the pictures I imported in Lightroom and not only a database of all the images on my computer. And in some way I accidentally imported each image on my computer there are a all kinds of graphic images and photos in the catalog in the folder all photographs. Also I did not 37 000 photographs downloaded to my computer, but I 37 000 thumbnails in my catalog.

In any case thanks for the link. I was looking for a tutorial of George Jardine I had looked at before, which covered the same info, but for some reason some went underground and I can not find.

And since I am new to Lightroom and import all images without sorting them in files or setting up metadata and protocols of copyright, is possible that I could remove all the image links that are now in my catalog, so I can start over?

    Thanks again
