Adding reliable programs to UAC

De :  MrKite

I just built this PC, installed Vista and MS Works 2001.  I get a warning UAC flashing in the taskbar that WKUpdate.exe wants access to my computer.  I can click on allow or refuse, and he doesn't come back, no option to add to trusted users.  I'm about to anyway disable UAC.  Any suggestions?  Thank you.

Hi MrKite,

You might see if using Compatibility Mode allows MS Works 2001 to work better for you. I'll try to check first the "Run as Administrator" option. This tutorial will show you how to needed.

I regularly run several programs and UAC asks EVERY TIME if that's OK.

UAC is designed to collect want programs run without my permission.  Why can't have a list of programs that are allowed to run without hindrance when I'm the one initiating this shit to begin with?
As far as I KNOW, there are four scenarios in which UAC does not:
    • When it is off (obviously!)
    • When the actions of the programme are not potentially dangerous.
    • When a program is run under a high count.
    • When the program is running under the system account.
Your statement "UAC is designed to catch programs who want to run without my permission" neglects the main point. UAC is designed to prevent programs from performing potentially dangerous actions such as changing the files/system folders or by editing the registry. In other words, a UAC challenge is never directed to a specific application. She always helps that tries to make a request.

I think it would be easy for Microsoft create a list of "good guys". I also suspect that it would be just as easy for programs not allowed to populate this list without your knowledge, so beating UAC in no time at all.

  • Some programs of UAC-virtualized cannot load the dll - possible consequence of KB2859537 (ASLR)?

Dear community of readers and contributors.

I started noticing this last August 15. Shorty after a bunch of updates system on my Vista Ultimate 32 bit, a few programs stopped working, with different error messages: "this application has failed to start because wxmsw28u_core_vc_custom.dll is missing. Reinstalling might solve the problem', 'User lib not found', 'this application is not correctly installed. Please install the application. I was wondering about some possible lack or corrupted DLL until I noticed:

    (1) all the programmes concerned are virtualized-UAC
    (2) if I delete their files virtualized in the virtual store, they can start again, until they wrote in the virtual store again, and then once I left him, they start again
    (3) if I disable UAC virtualization for these programs (by the Compatibility Administrator), programs are able to start again (but with other problems, of course)

Clearly, there is a change in behavior that reminded me of these recent updates and after a check that I have the impression that this one, KB2859537, that modifies the ASLR may very well be responsible for this. I saw no viable solution right now, you have any advice?

Without details I've probably will disable ASLR completely on my system, just to see if it does the trick, but I'm considering not live like that, of course...

I don't know if EMET has options to disable by program the ASLR, will download and try it. These programs are not compatible ASLR, but I could try disabling ASLR on UAC virtualization file system filter, if it is possible...

    Thanks for your help!

False alarm, I finally found a solution that makes me think it is unrelated to the patch of the ASLR. In which case it can come useful for others, problems related to programs on an external USB hard drive. Plug before starting the system is likely to solve the problem, but I found another one: open the file of the volume that is affected, then try to eject safely in the notification area, which will fail because a file is opened. This brings things in order for whatever reason I don't know currently...

  • When to reboot after deleting or adding a program

I'm doing a system reformat on my computer. I would uninstall all the frivolous programs that came with the computer (for example, the evaluation version) until I put a new system restore point. My question is: if I have TO RESTART my computer after EACH program I uninstall it from the control panel (Add / Remove Programs)? OR can I just "delete" them all at once, then do a restart.

Similarly, can I restart my computer after EACH application I have installed? For example, to install Norton 360 > restart > then install MS Office > restart > then install Adobe Creative Suite > restart > etc, etc. ?

I personally would like to always re - start when asked.

Not all programs will require a reboot after the installation or the removal, so in your situation I would re - start when you are prompted.

If you don't re - start whenever there is a (small) possibility that some files can not be erased when you re-boot.

If you are looking to get rid of all the pre-installed stuff, look for a program called "de-Crapifier PC", I have not used it myself, but it seems to have a lot of comments and recommendations in all popular PC press.

  • Full administration must off UAC?

On another forum has a photo editing software for some tech support person tell everyone that they must stop their UAC before running a program with admin access because it's the only way to get full admin access.

    Is this correct?

UAC prevents still certain functions happen even if you run the program as administrator?  What is a bunch of hooey?

I would like to know, because if it's not true then I would stop the Advisor.  I know a few people who have decided to just simply give up the UAC because they thought he did more harm than good because of this post.

All directors have administrator access total - there are not different types of administrators.  It is true that the built-in Administrator account has access more than all other administrator accounts you can do, but you can't duplicate this account (you can't give these rights to any other account) and it should be left disabled unless necessary emergency - not for something like this (and you certainly don't want to activate the built-in on all systems administrator account and let their permits or for) the worst let people use it as their main account).  There is a security risk and it gives you also no help if you have problems with your other administrator accounts.  Moreover, 'extra' rights is essentially the ability to bypass the UAC restrictions easier (it doesn't add additional rights or access) but not all - UAC can always block even this account.

There are programs that have problems with the UAC.  Generally, these can be corrected by contacting the manufacturer of the program and explainiing the problem and they will often have a solution that will solve the problem without disabling UAC (which I recommend strongly against). In addition, there is no guarantee the built-in Administrator account would be more successful than ordinary administrators with these programs.  Some, however, continue to have problems that even the manufacturers cannot solve - it is rare, but there are.  This can often be corrected by adding the program as an exception of UAC, but even that doesn't always work.  In these cases, the best choice is to find a different program that does not cause the problem.

I can't advise you what to do here; However, I strongly suggest you do not use the built-in administrator accounts (if they even solve the problem) and most strongly recommend that you not disable UAC.  Find out what can be done and see if there is another way to do it without disabling UAC.  If you decide to disable UAC when using the program, at least make him a policy it can only be disabled when you use this program (or better, only when you use the functionality of the program that blocks the UAC) and must be reactivated immediately after use is made.

    I hope this helps.

If you have chosen the correct drivers (for the right notebook series) then try to copy the extracted files in the folder of Toshiba Value Package added to programs-> Toshiba-> Toshiba Value added Package.

Then try to run the ini file as described on the page of the European driver Toshiba.

I have been using Media Player 9, decided to upgrade to Windows Media Player 11, and the only thing I can not stand on Player 11 is how it sorts Date added media files.  In Player 9 when I chose the column Date added, the program would list all the files on a given under a SINGLE date.  With Windows Media Player 11 it lists EACH file with a date so that instead of see Tuesday, December 14, 2010 once and then listing all of the files under it, I see Tuesday, December 14, 2010 about twenty times.  I download podcasts once a week and dump it on my phone, but it's a worry now.  Is it possible to stop Windows Media Player 11 to repeat the date again and again and force him to the date that the list only once?  Think back to Player 9.  Alex

  • The Windows UAC compliance

I use an application that is not compatible with UAC. Apart from the challenges that come with being not compatible UAC, is there a chance that Microsoft will say in the future that no - complaint UAC applications will not be allowed to run on future versions of Windows?

Also, how it affect applications running on windows mobile or surface?

Microsoft has never said that they want to restrict non - UAC to run programs, and I don't think that they will never be.  UAC is just a security technology so that programs don't get all the privileges that they do not need. In other words, they do not work "as an administrator", even if the user is an administrator. Most of the programs work very well as well, because the program doesn't really need access to make changes of nucleus at low altitude in any case.

They cannot purely and simply block you from running programs without UAC, because as long as you are an administrator, you can do.

Surface works exactly like a real PC, so there is no change.

Windows Mobile cannot run arbitrary x 86 code anyway, it is essentially theoretical.  A mobile application is still running in a sandbox.

  • Cannot create a new user account, the user profile service service does not log and cannot install a program

I can't create a new user account (Windows 7): the user profile service service has no logon.

I have an administrative account which is the only account. I have problems with the installation of Autodesk Inventor so I need to create another user to see if I can solve the problem. But when I want to make a new user account and I get the following message: I can't create a new user account (Windows 7): the user profile service service has no logon.

I haven't added new programs in a long time and I don't know when this question has been raised as I've had my laptop for 3 years and this is the first time I create another account than my original. I don't want to reset my computer manufactured settings.

I also followed the http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/947215/en-us but I can't find any registry master in the list of profiles. In fact, I am the only user in there...

It seems that my computer does not have a record in the system registry.

In fact, the problem started when I tried to fix the "C:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\desktop refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer.or on a network. Check to make sure that the disc is inserted correctly, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If he can't always find the information could have been moved to another location. "I was at least able to connect in the new user but will load a default profile and therefore do not load the profile properly. It seems I've done worse the problem after doing

    gpupdate/force

at the prompt as an administrator.

The very initial problem started all this was when I was running from Autodesk Inventor, it gives me the following error: Mismatched Ole32.dll and Comcat.dll. And the support2.microsoft.com/kb/201364/en-us is to say that since I am under Win7, the solution is not applied. So I'm stuck. And the next move was trying to see if a new user profile may solve the problem.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

And if possible, please also suggest a "repair" method so I can get Win7 function correctly without reinstalling the whole machine. "" I use a laptop so I do not have installation media.

    Hello

Thank you for your update on the issue.

I suggest that you try to run the file system (CFS) Checker scan to check all the corruption of .dll files.

    1. Go to Start, click all programs and open the Accessories.
    2. Right-click on command prompt in the list programs, and then select run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click OK.
