addition of drive D 100GD to 50vms

How can I add a second drive (100 GB) to 50VMs, and change the letter of the cdrom from D to E and the new drive letter D value? Is this possible with a script?

Try something like this

$MyScript = @"Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_Volume -Filter "DriveLetter = 'D:'" |Set-WmiInstance -Arguments @{DriveLetter="E:"; Label="Label"}"@

$vm = Get-VM -Name MyVMInvoke-VMScript -VM $vm -ScriptText $MyScript -ScriptType PowerShell -GuestUser $user -GuestPassword $pswd

  • Can I add an additional hard drive storage?

A 40 GB hard drive, I installed in my computer and I would like to know what would be the best practice to install an additional hard drive?

A 40 GB hard drive, I installed in my computer and I would like to know what would be the best practice to install an additional hard drive?

    Basically, you have two choices:

    1. install a second hard drive (only possible if your computer has physical space for this)

    2. replace your 40 GB with a bigger drive.

If you add or replace, there are two important factors you need to consider size and interface type.  Most laptops use 2.5-inch disks.  Most of office/towers use 3.5-inch disks.  There are several different hard drive interfaces, and you get a drive that has the same interface as your computer.

Most older computers use the Parallel ATA interface (PATA or sometimes simply ATA).  These discs are also called IDE disks.  There are several variations, but those generally available today is the Ultra ATA66 IDE / ATA - 5, Ultra ATA100 IDE / ATA - 6 and the Ultra ATA133 IDE / ATA-7.  The numbers refer to the data transfer rate.  No matter the data transfer capacity of the disc, however, your actual data transfer rates will be limited by your motherboard.  Finally, you'll notice an RPM rating and a size of "cache".  For the performance, in general, the higher these numbers the better the performance.

Number of computers more recent uses the interface Serial ATA (SATA).  There are three versions of the present.  SATA-1 (1.5 Gbps), SATA-2 (3 Gbps) and SATA-3 (6 Gbps).  However, given that you currently have a 40 GB drive, it is strong enough to bet that you have NOT of SATA.

Another interface is SCSI.  You have probably not SCSI.

The starting point is by identifying the brand and model of your computer.  If you have a desktop/Tower computer, you can buy almost any hard drive, that you like; laptops can be a bit more picky.  A good resource for readers (once you know what you want) is newegg.com  Drive Solutions offer one advice that should tell you what players are compatible with your computer.

If you choose to replace rather than add them, you will need to 'clone' of your existing to the new drive.  To do this, you will need appropriate software.  Sometimes, the software basic disk of cloning comes with the disk (remember to read the product description or email/call the seller before you buy).  Sometimes, it is available as a free download from the manufacturer of the drive (for example, if you buy a Western Digital drive, WD has "Acronis True Image WD Edition Software").  Or you can get your own copy of various applications of cloning, some are free, but more for sale.

If you replace a laptop (or a drive in a desktop/tower with no computer available drive Bay), you can buy an external hard drive enclosure.  There are a variety of them.  Just be sure to get one with the internal interface correctly to match the drive and an external interface that is compatible with your computer (usually, USB 2.0).  External hard disk enclosure are sometimes comes with disk cloning software.  And, once your new drive is in place and functioning satisfactorily, you can put the old drive in the box and erase (format) it and use it as a backup drive.

Above sounds a lot more complicated than it is.  You will probably find even the process YouTube videos, if you look at.

Always learning, is never too late

Not sure if you have the ultra thin or small form factor (if)... but I don't see why you shouldn't be able to add an additional hard drive. In fact, HP has even some videos of support on how to do...

If you have the data and power cable attached, the reader should appear under the general tab of the BIOS. You shouldn't have to do something with jumpers on the drive and it does not matter what sata connector you put it in.

  • Add hp Zbook G3 studio additional ssd - drive surgestions

    Dear community,

I would add an additional SSD to my Hp Zbook g3 studio. I found that the following SSD is compatible with my laptop but unfortunately it was sold for the last 2 months.

Essential MX200 m2 Type 2280 (Single Sided) 500 GB internal SSD

Therefore, I have a few questions about an additional SSD:

-Is it better to add an SSD of 500 GB and the use of external storage or a 1 terabyte SSD?

-Each SSD 2280 m2 (single Sided) is compatible with my laptop?

    - And what is someone knows an SSD alternative to the above which is compatible with my laptop?

Thank you very much in advance,

    Greetings,

    Rick,

The complexity of all this is the way out of hand. What you are, it is a SATA m2. I just put a disc of NVME m2 (aka PCI-e) of 512 gigabytes in my G3 Zbook (no studio). I know that your laptop is a little different, but I'm pretty sure that it's the same kind of m2 of housing and I don't know that a SATA would work. I know that it doesn't work the other way around. If the laptop is made for the m2 SATA drives only, you cannot use a PCI-e. In fact, I installed an official part of HP. The ordering process is another question, but let's say I got it, and it turns out to be a Samsung SM951:

    https://www.Amazon.com/Samsung-SM951-512GB-NVMe-MZVPV512HDGL-00000/DP/B015CWR4M2/ref=pd_lpo_147_tr_t_3?ie=UTF8 & PSC = 1 & refRID = YA2TAQZPDE3NNQCWCNSH

I used it to replace a Samsung PM951 256 concert which is like the PCI-e m2 budget model, so I know that two of them are working.

Look at the pictures and you can see a difference. The SATA drive has 3 pins that plug in and the PCI-e has only 2.

    The manual on page 2:

    Manual

Specifies EITHER a SATA m2 or a PCI-e, so you can be OK, but I'll tell you a PCI - e has double or triple the speed of read/write.

    Mine supports 2 x m2 and a 2.5 inch SATA. Your accepts 2 x m2 I read the manual and what appears to be a 2.5 inch non-standard SD

I actually still the 256 PM951 concert. We can help you find something compatible and I can tell you that the HP part was estimated at a very favourable point (about the same as the Crucial which is out of stock) If you can't stand waiting rather difficult and slow checkout process.

  • Adding an additional HARD drive to Dell Dimension 4600

HARD drive how much can this system take, I ask because I want to add an additional hunting with taken all readers currently in PC (2). Any help would be appreciated. Regards.Johno65

    Hi John,.

    Thank you for your response.

Dimension 4600 system board connectors are as follows:

    • Connector 40 pin primary IDE channel
    • Connector 40 pin IDE secondary channel
    • Floppy drive 34 pin
    • 7-pin Serial ATA connector (2)

The Dimension 4600 supports up to 4 ATA/100 devices on 2 IDE channels. However, it has flanges/casing for two drives internally accessible only. If you do not connect a third drive internally, there is no place to fix in the system chassis (such as the hard drive bays can contain only 2 hard drives) so it could be hung out of the system. Alternatively, you can connect external USB hard drives as needed on the system.

Answer please if you have other queries.

    Thank you and best regards.

  • XPS 8500 additional SATA Drive add...cable/power questions

Nothing on sites Web of Dell (after two hours of seraching, including a chat with a Dell representative session) on how to add a hard drive from a dell computer. I'm simply confused (this happens regularly) it is difficult to find, or you really need to add a simple video on how to add an extra SATA (how many times people do that?).

No info on cables, power supplies, how many readers you can add, etc.

So this is the kind of thing I need... Thank you! How do I add a SATA, which cable does, esp if the slots for the cables are already taken by the BluRay player... can get a cable SATA outputs multiple?

    Thanks for your help.

Thanks, Bev... screw seems to be the only parts I have.

I am therefore reason to believe that I can put only two disks sata in this 8500, right? and we're already here, so I can really only add one, correct?

Where are you going to get the good SATA cable?

the manual referenced does not something specific on SATA wiring part I looked. Should not be too much of a pest, but do you have a specific reference.

    Rick

    Rick,

Yes, you can add an additional hard disk, the disk hard primary exsisting. to add several internal hard drives, you need an open 3.5"/5.25" bay and to install more than four SATA drives, SATA PCIe x 1 expansion card would be necessary.

You should be able to buy a SATA data cable in a store of the local computer, or www.newegg.com for more details, go here,

Better to use a local store to save the S & H

Sorry to say, that the manual is the only reference that Dell has released, as most newer Dell manuals, missing many details.

Install the secondary hard drive is usually relatively in line forward, you must connect the data cable to a SATA connector on the motherboard, and after installation checking the installation process, to see if the drive is recognized.

If the drive is recognized in the installation program for Windows to recognize the second hard drive, it must be patitioned, formatted and received a drive letter using disk Windows 7 Manager.

  • How to add additional sas drive to an existing IBM midsize V3700 and do like being active in all hosts with vcenter server devices

    Hello team,

In our infra we have 8 node of the flex IBM x 240 and 1 IBM midsize V3700 host as storage device. In this 19 storage hard drives busy with 600 GB 10 k 6 GB SAS drive and 5 locations are still, that storage is divided into 2 for test and Production. Now we expect for resizing the activity so that we plan to add more 5 hdd storage, can someone guide me how do it properly without any problem.  If I add the HARD drive storage how to initialize and map to the existng storage. If someone has done this before please guide me to continue.uat.JPGPro.JPG

What you have to do is create a new disk (mdisk) group and add to your existing (mdiskgrp), to make task record the following:

    1. click on internal disks and then bind o pools:

    2. click on configure storage:

    3. on the storage configuration wizard, you can select use recommended Configuration or select a Configuration different, but the most important is to select your existing disk group RAID level:

    4. then select the Expand existing Pool:

Once the capacity of the new disk has been added to your existing pool, you can create new volumes to expand your existing volumes (LUNS UAT or logic of PRODUCTION unit number).

Let me know if you need additional assistance.

  • OS x 10.8 guest - do not install additional hard drives at startup

    Hello

I am running OSX ML 10.8.3 and Fusion 5.0.3 and whirl ML 10.8.3 and.app as a guest for Netboot and DeployStudio.

I added additional virtual hard disks for this virtual machine for the storage of the image. They are IDE, drives hard line - standard stuff. Several times when I start the guest additional drives do not mount. In disk utility I see them but can mount them, and if I do a repair disk it just runs forever, does nothing I think. If I restart the guest they sometimes mount and are fine, no damage. Other times I have to restart several times to get them.

    Has anyone else seen elsewhere?

    Thank you

    Chris

    Hi Chris,

Is there a reason you chose IDE instead of SCSI?

Recent versions of Mac OS doesn't get along well with the virtual hard drives on our emulated PIIX4 IDE controller, which is why we default to SCSI drives creating Mac OS VMs and the addition of hard drives for them.  I strongly recommend that stick you with a SCSI virtual hard drives for Mac OS clients.

    See you soon,.

  • Camera VDR has additional hard drives

I have a virtual machine that remains stuck on VDR (snapshot ends but remains stuck after copy about 25%) and rest as a blocked task until I reboot the VDR.

I noticed that 3 additional drives are mounted on my camera VDR (00003.vmdk machinename_000007.vmdk, machinename_000005.vmdk, and machinename).

    1. can I just disconnect the unit VDR?

    2. I don't think that are associated with the actual virtual machine disk, can I delete them?

    rogressem,

After you restart VDR unit it should automatically remove the snapshot of the virtual machine and also clean these disk attached to the VDR.  If it does not you can check if maybe you deleted the VM stuck from the selection of the backup operation that I found on the numerious times that I met him stuck VMs that if I remove the virtual machine backup and then after reboot selection, the VDR cleans not upward.  Try to add the virtual computer to a backup job and restart VDR again.

Now, I am sure that what is originally VMs who will be pasted at different percentages is corruption to a backup prior to 90%.  The work of integrity will not or is unable to detect this type of corruption because integrity work will also run clean and shows no error at all.  What I did is on the stuck VM I delete the last few points of restoration (3-5), and then restart the VDR which starts usually off a re-indexing when he returns to the top and the stuck VM will again make backups as usual without being stuck.  I used this method for the last 4 stuck VMs and it works for me at least.

    Good luck.
