addition of SSD in HP Envy 17 j011sr

This laptop has second port mSATA or something, that I can use to add SSD?

Can I replace an optical drive, second battery, or a SSD?

The mSATA is hidden and not easy to get to but there is a second space for a regular size SATA HDD that can accept an SSD or you can exchange the SSD in the main Bay and put the original disk in the second Bay. Will need you a caddy/cable like this:

You can, but you shouldn't. The port for the optical drive is a SATA-I have the interface. Slower than the port for HDD/SSD. So if you want to just add storage put a regular mechanical training in an optical drive adapter. Also any drive in the optical drive adapter will not be bootable. This will help you:

If everything remains the same (as long as the parameters go) after the switch, the secondary drive should continue to work as it has been.

    Hi all

I intend to buy an SSD mSATA disc to my desire, because I want to improve the response time at the opening of some programs, improve the General performance of the operating system and to access files faster to big (read and write).

I searched several readers mSATA SSD in the Web and I chose a P830 Series128GB mSATA SSD Samsung miniPCI-E disk (SATA III 6 GB/s, read 500 MB/s, writing of 400 MB/s).

But I'm asking about what might be the best option to use the SSD mSATA so suitable as a primary drive (operating system installation and leaving 1 TB of HARD drive for storage and applications) or use it as a cache to improve overall performance.

I do not envy for IE play or video editing, but I work with VMWare Workstation, and most of the time I need to use about 2 or 3 VM at the same time (sometimes during the recovery of a virtual Suspension of machine it take a long time, the virtual disks sizes about 40 GB). Another use for my desire is to play movies/series HD / 3D 0 and mirrored them for my Smart TV (via Miracast)

I read something on Intel Smart Response Technology (SRT) and I heard some benefits for use with SSDS as cache memory but I am still confused the best option.

Any suggestions you may have? It might be useful for me!

    Kind regards

    Alejandro

    Hello @cchoiz ,

    Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand that you have questions about the installation of your mSATA SSD.

The mSATA slot is designed to only be used as a disk cache. You may experience problems starting in the mSATA SSD as drive. For this reason, I recommend to use it in its configuration provided; as a cache drive.

The decision is entirely at you in the end. If you are able to configure the BIOS to use the mSATA as the main drive, this will help improve your system performance in addition to using it as a cache drive, especially if there is enough space to install your VMWare on the mSATA SSD after you have installed the operating system. Use it as a main drive will also increase the life expectancy of the SSD.

I can only offer you my personal and no suggestions 'official response HP' in this regard. As previously mentioned, it is entirely up to you.

Hopfully, this helps at least a little.

  • Want to 15 t Touch: question M.2 SSD for HP Envy 15 t Touch (model 15 t-ae100)

I ordered the HP Envy 15 t Touch (model 15 t-ae100) with the i7 processors and 4 GB of memory graphic discreet. The Maintenance and Service Guide accurate that there is a slot available for one SSD m2.  From what I can tell, it's a SATA 3 (not mSATA or PCIe) slot that will be a 2280 SSD card.  Three questions:

    1. where did the m2 slot located on the motherboard?  Adjacent to the wireless network adapter?

    2. is there a screw included on the motherboard for the SSD m2 card?

    3. any compatibility likely questions if I get the EVO of 850 Samsung 500 GB m2 (MZ-N5E500BW)?

    Thank you very much

    Hello @space_thread,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A place where you can find solutions for your problems, with the help of the community!

I stumbled upon your post on the SSD question and wanted to help!

The m2 slot seems to be located next to the memory Modules.  There is a Phillips PM2.0x3.50 screw that secures the SSD to the system board.  Your product supports the following SSD:

    SSD (m2) drive

    256 GB - 812708-001

    128 GB, 2280 M2 - 829985-001

    128 GB (Best Buy SKUs) - 820547-001

Therefore the 500 GB m2 will be not compatible.  I hope this helps.

  • Additional HARD disk adds HP ENVY 6-1120sq

I just bought a HP ENVY 6-1120sq which has a SSD 128 GB on it. Is it possible to add an additional normal HARD drive?

Really, they don't want messing you here... envy 6 Ultra is a closed system. However, it is configured to use a 2.5 inches wide but thin 7 mm 'standard' hard drive and has a slot for a smaller WSSD (physical size), which is what you have. Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

7 mm 500 gig hard drive

Get the MSSD and a normal hard drive to play nice together cannot be too easy. In many systems, the WSSD is used as a 'cache' drive to speed up the main drive. In yours, it is used as main storage.

  • ADD/REPLACE SSD ON HP ENVY 15-j059nr

    Hello

I have a HP ENVY 15-j059nr Quad Edition Notebook PC

I want to upgrade the hard drive because I do a lot of video editing.

with the 15-j059nr as I bought it I have a 750 GB drive at 5200 rpm and small 24 GB SSD for acceleration

I want to replace either the 5200 disk 750 GB pm or 24 GB msata with an SSD or a msata SSD ssd

If I remove the msata 24 GB ssd that is installed now what will happen? I understand it is used for acceleration and it also has the image of windows 8 on it for recovery purposes. Preferably, I would like to leave the 750 GB drive in place and put a 250 GB SSD msata in place of the stock 24 GB that came with my laptop.

    What do you recommend?

    Thank you

    Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

Page 44 shows how to access the drive of the WSSD. It is not too difficult. However, replace it with a bigger WSSD and using this drive as boot drive are a bit complex. In wholesale, if a regular reader is installed the system starts the mssd. You will need to load a bootstrapper on the main drive, pointing to the WSSD drive where the operating system.

Now the MSSD and the primary drive are set up in a sort of RAID array where the WSSD holds files frequently consulted for quick access. In fact, she does not have the recovery partition; It is on the main drive. Usually this works quite well for faster boot times and lance program and gives the "feel" of a faster system. For you, doing video editing, it is not ideal at all. You access videos from the slow drive 5400 RPM and the WSSD help at all since you only go once image files, and they are too big to pass on the WSSD. You'd still have this problem of access slow disk as long as you try to work on large video files that are found on the disk 5400 RPM for the WSSD boot drive is also not an ideal solution.

Your best solution is a full size 2.5-inch SSD. You can remove the MSSD completely and just replace the disk of concert by the glaciers slow 5400 RPM 750 with more great one SSD as the budget allows. Post back if you need any help to find one or any other form of assistance.

  • Can I use the recovery discs HP on a new SSD for HP Envy Windows 8?

    Hello

I've owned my TouchSmart from HP ENVY 15 - j105sa Notebook PC, Ref. F5D08EA for a few months now and I would like to upgrade to an SSD Samsung Evo 840 (500 GB) HARD drive.

I use the recovery disks that I created when I got the laptop to install the OS on the new SSD? I know that I could do it with previous versions of Windows, but with secureboot etc I do not know if this can be done with Windows 8, I know, it can be disabled in the BIOS, but I have the latest bios update for my laptop that I check regularly.

    Thanks for any help.

The method the most painless way to do is to buy the new SSD as a migration kit.

Migration kits are delivered with a USB to SATA data\power connector and cloning software.

Recovery and recovery usb media discs games requires that the target disk is the same size or larger than the original. In using the method of migration (cloning) will show that a problem.

    It makes you, thank you.

Lol when this laptop was sold solid state drivers were exotic things and one concert 160 cost of a King's ransom. It was the largest offered HP, not a hard limit. They are more reasonably priced now. The best consumer SSD is a Samsung 850 Evo and I would at least get a concert from 480 to 512.

But a lot of good ones out there:

I don't think that there is no limit on that. I think that whatever it is upwards to 500 GB will certainly work and probably same disks up to a 1 to. Samsung is a very popular brand with the Evo Series discs / Pro. I would go for one of them.

I'm really sorry, I could not find this before, but the slot under the hard drive is not compatible with the mSATA disks. It's for WWAN modules! Your laptop is not like 4 I thought, but Envy 14 equipped with the first generation of Intel processors. Envy 14-Sandy Bridge 2000 series could be BIOS modded to make the miniPCI-e interface works with the mSATA disks but Envy 14-1000 series is not possible to change.
