Adobe holds download updates for my CS5 (I need not cloud), but the installation of update always fails. Adobe won't talk to my phone or respond to a direct query so how do I get these updates to work or stop their download every few weeks.

  I don't really see your layer panel, but your image, looks like you are trying to mix a layer against the background transparent. You need two layers of mixture. It does not work against a transparent BG.
