Advice on changes to vCenter

As much joy coming my way.

I have vcenter 5.5 running on a VM Win2k8 R2 with SQL SERVER 2005 Express. We have 6 hosts vSphere 5.5 - a single cluster with 4 production hosts and another cluster with 2 test host. Windows Server is not in AD yet because vCenter fails once I join it, so I keep coming back to a snapshot before joining.

Because I would really like to get it joined the announcement and I'm starting to combat the problems of performance, I thought it would be a good time to make a change. Narrowing of the DB should help a little, but I think that an upgrade is inevitable. I am considering this plan:

-Save the VIM_UMDB and VIM_VCDB databases and store it in the storage offline

-Uninstall SQL and vCenter

-Adhere to the AD

-Install the latest vCenter and full SQL 2008 or 2012

-Restore the databases

-Drink

Optional bonus - down the vcenter vm and install the vcenter device.

Questions-

-Can save it SQL databases restored the machine to vcenter

-C' is better just to recreate the cluster from scratch? If so, how much of the configuration I need to redo (networking, security profiles, etc.)

-If you re-create, should I disconnect the current vcenter hosts once I get DB backups? Any other measure to dissociate the current vcenter?

I'm starting to look at the documentation, but I hope for some advice from the real world.

Thank you.

1. Yes. the DB can be restored as the flings vmware newly introduced for that purpose only. VCS to VCVA converter & #8211; VMware Labs

2. If you re-create the cluster, you must do all the config. Once again. as it will be material to scratch.

3. Yes. If you disconnect then do normally as you added before. No special measures.

  • Changing servers vCenter

    Hello

I have a vCenter Server 4.0 U1 with a bit of Connection Manager servers connected to it. I need to change the server vCenter for an another 4.0 U1. I can simply change the vCenter server info in the connection without interupting Manager any of my stocks of VDI?

    Thanks for the help

We had a particularly bad experience with view after a vCenter server change, so I may be too paranoid, but I highly recommend opening a pension with VMware case before making the change.  I believe that the VMs system (ESX host also) are saved with vCenter and that the 'recording' information is the database of the view, it is essential that this information is not changed in vCenter.  If it is changed, the pointers of the database of the view will not be up-to-date and you will have big problems.  I think that as long as you point your new instance of vCenter to your existing database of vCenter, everything will be fine, but I just would make sure with support before doing so.  Good luck.

  • How to change provider vcenter url?

When you access vCenters by the Director, we have an incorrect url for vCenter.

I could change the url to manual setting, but where in fact these 'vSphere Services to provide this URL' settings are located?

    Thanks for the tip!

I could change finally correct URL, but it has not been simple enough.

vCenter SSO database was wrong URL for vCenter and I couldn't find any where the SSO configuration.

Finally I had to open the vCenter with JXplorer SSO database and delete incorrect URL of ServiceRegistrations.

I used this KB as a guideline: VMware KB: backup and restore of the configuration of VMware vCenter Single Sign-On 5.5

  • Changing the vCenter Server IP address

I am trying to build a new vCenter environment, we are currently waiting on IP ports and patch our networks team but I would "If I can" start building the server vCenter for this environment, there will be a virtual server.

We have a test environment in place for the moment that we have a shared iscsi data store that once the environment has been built, we can remove from the inventory and add to the new environment once completed.

Can we see problems with IP addressing if I build the server with a temp IP then import into my new environment and then change the IP address?

    Yes,

As you say you have a DB server as physics that won't change, even if you go for the production.

    So, all that you requested

    (1) SSO - for SSO db if you use existing DB for this tha'ts then fine, but if you plan to have additional server to DB, you will find difficulty

    (2) SQL server for VC - as you said that you use existing DB... It is very good

    (3) installing vcenter server and inventory... require you to have details of the SSO server. If you use the IP agreement for the installation of VC, there is difficulty, where you must uninstall VC and inventory services.

  • Change of VCenter server for a pool View 5

    Hello

I have a simple question about the view linked clone pools configuration.

We are currently heading our view installation of a standalone environment, which includes a new server VCenter. Is it possible to change the name of the server in the configuration of the pool or should I recreate?

    Thanks in advance!

    Best regards

    Roland

Welcome to the forums.  In order to use a new vCenter, you will need to create a new pool, and then select this instance of vCenter.

  • Considerations when changing the vCenter Server Unique ID?

We have a minor problem with MAC address collisions, and to fix it, I want to change the ID of vCenter Server Unique from our "view" vCenter Server.

    (see KB1024025)

However, I fear that there may be some side effects, of which I am unaware, and decided this time I would like to better ask before doing something stupid.

Is it safe to change the Unique ID of a vCenter Server used by VMware View?

Do I have to wait for any other effect that newly generated in another range MAC addresses?

I have crossed a reinstall of my machine to vCenter using my existing db, but do not go back and change the ID Unique in what it was previously, and it caused no ill effects.  Having said that, for consistency, I made them the same thing.  I know that the ID to be used only for MAC and UUID, so there should be no problem.

  • Advice on upgrading to VCenter 4.1

    Hello world.

Our VMware environment is still sitting at 3.5.

We plan to migrate to 4.1 and trying to bring together the thoughts about what to do with VCenter.

We currently have a server Win 2003 physics VCenter connected to a SQL 2000 Server (for VC and UM databases)

We want to end up with:

-VC running as a virtual server

    -win 2008 R2 64 bit

    -VCenter 4.1

    -databases on SQL 2005 64-bit

I'm not sure that the best way to do it.

I created a Win 2008 VM. With that, I will install VCenter 4.1

But here, I created a new SQL database and recreate the data centre and cluster and then import the hosts and virtual machines in our server origianl VC.

Or should I try and export / import the DB from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005.

I don't mind a database of UNIFIED messaging to create empty because we have not yet use.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated

    Thank you

    Welcome to the Forums

Depending on the complexity of the configuration and the size of the environment.

If there is not no d ' assign permissions or pools of resources configured, I would setup a new vCenter

recreate the Datacenter and Clusters and import the guest (virtual machines will follow)

After the organizers have new vCenter, upgrade / reinstall them at ESXi4.1

  • How to change device Vcenter 5.1 to 5.5?

How do you improve an existing unit of the Vcenter 5.1 to 5.5? I looked in the documentation, and I'll be darn if I see it.

    Thank you!

    Arch

In the upgrade of the old device tab, copy the key (which is the VCSA 5.5) and do an import of key... Once the import was successful, copy the key and paste on the VCSA 5.5.

  • Need advice to change the Flash player in publication settings

Hi, I'm on a mac and you have not updated my OS from 10.5 to 10.6, so when I upload a named file in Flash CS5 it will not play because she needs the latest flash player that uses OS 10.6.

So what I get is that can I go into the settings to 'release' and change the Flash drive of 10.2 to an older version and then this work.

Also, should which version I change to? For example you could choose Flash Player 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 or 10.1?

Do I have to modify the "actionscript" too? 3.0 to 1.0 or 2.0 or is it not necessary?

    Any help/suggestions are appreciated.

In general, Flash will warn you that your file contains features that will not support the selected player, so if you don't get any error messages when you select an earlier version of the player to publish to, then chances are that your design will work with him.

You don't want to change the settings of the ACE.  What is the version of AS was used to create the file is the one you specify.

  • Sysprep has changed with vCenter 4.0?

I was wondering if you still download and copy all the files, sysprep in the appropriate folders, as we did with Virtual Center?

    Hello.

Yes, its still the same.  The process is detailed in an annex to the vSphere Basic System Administration guide.

    Good luck!

  • Change password of vCenter

    Hello

I need to change my vCenter server admin password that I use to connect to the client to vCenter with too.

The vCenter server is a Windows 2008 virtual machine, which has a SQL Server Remote Database - SQL DB and the server use the same name of user and password as vVenter-, so it connects using Windows credentials.

What would be the best method to change these? I guess I'll need to stop the services on both servers vCenter, change the password of the service use and then change the passwords on both Windows servers, and then restart the services? Or am I missing something obvious?

    Thank you!

Yes, seems ok. You will need to should not stop database services.

A couple of weeks, I noticed a spam for med pills in my Inbox (that said that he sent me!) So I looked online and followed the advice to change my password. Today the same thing happened, but no one else on my list of contacts I know has received something from me. • Change the password for the Active Directory account that is running VMware VirtualCenter Server

We have an ESXi5.5 environment and I was instructed to change the password of the Active Directory account is used to run the VMware VirtualCenter Server Service.

There is a Data Source configured for a separate MS - SQL Server that is configured to use Windows authentication

I find the Article KB KB VMware: changing the vCenter Server database user ID and password

On the key: KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc., \VMware VirtualCenter\DB T HE for 2 and 3 values are empty

It is not quite clear to me if the vpxd.exe Pei command is necessary for our environment (service AD account and Windows authentication) or if it is only if SQL authentication is defined on the Data Source - would anyone have experience with this change and be able to clarify for me?

    Thank you

    Yes you are right,

but I would suggest to stop the services first before you do the activity, it can take the old password in a few times and lock the conduit to account

    2. once the password is updated, make sure that the login account is updated (is currently running services on the specified user account or local account?)

If it runs using the specified account, you will need to updated and restart the services.

    3. make sure that the services are running fine and observe for a while, the user account must not get locked.

Let me know if you have any other questions
