A few days ago Winows done its thing updated and said it requires a reboot to complete the updates, so I allowed the restart later my office had been reduced to 1024 x 768, and I can't look as crisp as before also the wallpaper will not appear right and worse that all refuse to WoW to play giving the message "cannot find the appropriate display device output of program "and another game 'SLEEP' runs on the desktop or to a black screen that needs reset to clear.

I tried to go back to a previous reboot point but apparently all checkpoints have been corrupt :(

Please help me! I'm a Gamer without games and he makes me free! :((

Hello Justjasan.

Simply run the system restore and select a restore point before the update.  I suspect it's a video driver that has been installed, which is probably an option so just give this one a miss for now. :-) Paul Smith - MVP for Windows desktop experience... • my pc deleted after that recent windows update (September 8, 2011)

Im running a pc using windows xp pro (if I'm not wrong) and this is my work pc so I really need your urgent assistance.

My problem is that yesterday after completing my work I left it open and when I tried to close it later that evening, I saw there is an automatic update waiting to be installed. So as usual, I have chosen to stop after update install & let it do its work. The next day, when I turn on the pc all seems ok, but after the window logo download page I have to wait for about 1/2 hour before the appearance of my newspaper in the console. After entering my password the console disappear and nothing on the screen. The only thing that's on the screen is my wallpaper. There is no taskbar, no start menu, no desktop items, nothing. I can access the Task Manager by pressing ctrl + alt + del, but same thing, it took me like ages before it appears, and I realized that there is no explorer.exe running. When I tried to run explorer.exe this message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. May not be the appropriate permissions for access you to them.

I tried rto run chkdsk via the cmd prompt and it detected there is a problem with the file system and ask me to run chkdsk /f. But I can only perform after a reboot, as it is said there are program using the volume. Yet once it would take me ages to wait for reboot start (I did it using Task Manager) at startup windows run the chkdsk command it t wen smoothly as there is no problem, but still the same problem happen where I have to wait an hour before the appearance of the console connection and after connection nothing is there.

I suspect it might occur due to the new update that microsoft will invite me to install. I don't know what update, now I just ask to install before shutting down. I don't know if it's a virus or something, but currently I am using trend micro internet security titanium & ad-aware and on my final analysis there is nothing major execpt for some cookies. Can someone guide me if I could go back to my pc or uninstall the updated windows install for me? If I am not mistaken my pc ever point backup restore & never all together. I can't afford to re - format or reinstall windows because all my file work & work related email (outlook) are in the pc.

  • Mouse Microsoft and Center keyboard problems during the recent Windows Update

    Windows 7 Professional 32/64

Windows Update, it is a week downloaded Microsoft Mouse and keyboard Center.  Apparently it did not install correctly on Windows 7.  Messages of two windows now pop up when you start.  They are the exact same messages one above the other which must be clicked off the coast.  Here's the exact message:

"There is a problem with the installation of the mouse and keyboard software Center.  To resolve this problem, you must remove the mouse and keyboard software from the Center, and then rerun the implementation of centre of keyboard and mouse.  For more information on the point to add or remove a program see Windows Help. »

Message meaning, but the action of removing the software is not possible.  In the list of programs highlight Microsoft Mouse and keyboard software Center and you receive only one choice.  This choice is Uninstall, with no choice of repair .  Microsoft is lazy, or finally reached being just plain stupid.  When you click the installation here is the screen that opens:

"Setup cannot continue because one or more of the required installation files are missing or corrupted. Rerun Setup from the CD-ROM of the software or any other facility reliable source. »

If you cannot uninstall or repair the screwed version, then when you try to re - install, it won't let you move forward, and stipulates that you already have the software installed and it will not properly work, or will not uninstall or repair it properly.  You're essentially stuck between the hammer and the anvil.  I don't want these two double messages showing when I start my computer.

For some strange reason, I think that this software is not properly tested to work on Windows 7.  I never install driver updates provided in Windows Update, but my wife has checked the box as an optional update.  Big mistake!

What can I do to remove this Microsoft Mouse and keyboard software Center of my computer.  I downloaded the version 2.0.161.0 and 2.0.161.0 and won't install until the problem with the faulty software installed is removed.  WHERE IS THE BUTTON REPAIR?

    Thank you

    Bernard Butler

You must have the patience of Job to work for MSFT.

I, too, have the same problem as Mr. Butler, w2 further complications:

    (1) assuming that it was a Win Update that caused the problem, I went to system restore to restore to an earlier time and was shocked to find that, even if my Protection system is activated, it was never a restore point created.
    (2) in addition to this annoying pop-up message, I have now lost everything except text in all my applications (Word, Publisher, etc.) and my browsers.  No display no graphics.

I tried your method 1 fix and received a message that it only worls on 64 bit systems.  Mine is 32.

I tried method 2 and tried to install; Rec'd msg saying I had to uninstall it first.

I'm taking your advice, but so far I lost three hours on this and have gotten nowhere.  Suggestion, please...

  • Windows Update fails, laptop breaks down at the restart, Windows 7

I had to buy a new drive hard laptop to my Toshiba Satellite after the first one stopped working. I reinstalled Windows 7 and did all the required Windows updates. So I wonder to restart, as usual, and I do. The problem is, when it gets to the point where the laptop screen goes black, and it should restart, is not. It is just a black screen, no response to the pressing movement or the key of the mouse. I know that the laptop is still technically because that light on is still green. I let him sit there for at least an hour, but nothing happened. Then I had the power button to turn off the laptop completely, he did and he turned his back. The laptop then turns and begins to set up the Windows updates, but it fails. After that I can log into the computer, and I can see that the Windows updates fails. Now, I have done this several times and sometimes the windows updates will succeed, but every time the laptop computer fails to restart correctly, and when I turn it off and turn it back on, he always tells me that Windows updates fail to configure. The last group of Windows updates I tried to do, they all failed to do.

I just looked at the history of updates to Windows, and these are updates that failed

Each update for Windows 7 for x 64 systems.

Daily security for Windows 7 for x 64 EXCEPT KB3035126 systems.

Each Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 security update

And each update Cumulative security for Internet Explorer 11

The only consistently successful updates have been

Update definition for Microsoft Security Essentials

Updates and security for Microsoft Office updates

and x 64 Windows malicious software removal tool
