After plugging in a closed to a new laptop HDD, a window pops up saying: "F: / is not available." Access denied. " Is there a way to solve this problem, or am I out of luck?

On my last laptop, I got a virus that has corrupted my OS files (Windows XP). I was using a version of Linux to run it, and then I crashed my AC adaptor port, making it essentially useless computer. I now have a 'new' laptop (for about a year now) that works under Windows 7.

I took possession of files but also address options for sharing and security in my username and I am the administrator.

The only option I've heard that I have not tried is a command prompt. I'm not familiar with this system, so if there is anything else I can do, I would rather try everything first. If not, I'll settle for anything at this point.

Thanks a lot for all the suggestions.

Hello

You can follow the steps mentioned below in order to resolve the error.

Method 1:

Note: Check with the different ports on the computer to reproduce the problem.

If you use a USB hub, try connecting the USB key directly and check.

Step 1:

Tips for solving problems of USB devices

(Applies to Windows 7)

Refer,

Install a USB device

Step 2: Check if you have any restrictions for the use of a USB key in the registry and fix them.

Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/back-up-the-registry

a. Click Start Menu > go to run command and type regedit to open the Registry Editor window open.

b. expand the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then SYSTEM > CURRENT CONTROL SET > SERVICES > USBstor, located in the left pane.

c. find the 'Start' in the right pane with the blue icon.

d. Double click on 'start '. A box labeled "Edit DWORD value" will open.

e. type '4' in the field 'value data '.

f. click OK and then close the registry editor.

g. re, insert the USB key and check.

Method 2: I also suggest that you scan your computer with the Microsoft Security Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Important: During the scan of the hard drive if bad sectors are found, the scanner tries to repair this sector, all available on which data may be lost.
