  All trial versions AoE are reduced to the version of the game, only allowing you to do very limited things, but including enough game for the game files to run correctly. To have the characteristics of many games, you have to download the rest of the game files during the validation of your CD key, I'm almost certain that you can not do like this from Microsoft.   You would have to buy it again.  The key is what you pay in the software, the disks are free, so to speak.  It is because this software is licensed, not sold.  The key is the proof that you are authorized to use the software.

  If you have your proof of purchase (receipt or credit card statement), you can probably go back to the store you bought originally and get free replacement. Policies very well store.

  Here is what helped me:

  Under Windows 7/Vista compatibility modeof AOE 3.

  1. Right click on the .exe of the game file
     1. location of 64-bit: C:\Program Files (x 86) \Microsoft Games\Age of Empires III
     2. location of 32 bit: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires III
     3. Read this if you don't know what Vista\Win 7 operating system you have.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Select the compatibility tab.
  4. Checkbox next to run this program in compatibility mode for.
  5. Scroll below it until Windows XP (Service Pack 3).
  6. Click apply and then click OK.

  As far as I know, most versions of Windows 7 include a Compatibility tab. However, if you don't then try this.

  I bought a new pc with Windows 7 installed. I installed Age of Empires 3. When I go to multiplayer, about 95% of the games said "impossible to reach." I have my old pc (with xp service pack 3) still connected via a router even and it continues to connect to the games, so I guess that the router is ok. Nevertheless, I have disconected from the router and plugged back in after a while (this allows to sort this occasional problem on my old pc) but it's not better on my new pc. Age of Empires 3 site speaks of ports and router problems, I had a glance in the ports, but don't understand what I should change, if anything. As I cannot go into casual games, I guess I'm in times of conflict/not compatible in some way with most of the other players, but don't know what to do about it. Can anyone help please?

  Just to complete this thread, and for anyone else who has the similar problem.

  I had to replace my router. I spent 2 hours with scientists of BT (who provided the broadband and router malfuntioning) and couldn't sovle the problem. So I bought a different brand of router and its working fine. I didn't have to forward ports or anything else, it worked just the box (Netgear). There must be some sort of conflict between Windows 7 and older equipment (BT Thomson).
