Then select run as an adiministrator. Click on apply, and then run the trial version download. Please note: this can temporarily ruin the color scheme on your PC.   The error occurred to me was that the program was not installed for all users.
  I found a solution to:
  1. go to computer > C: and the option to display hidden items.
  2. after a hidden folder named ProgramData will appear.
  3. then you should go ProgramData > Microsoft > Windows > StartupMenu > programs.
  4. When you are in that folder you just create another folder named Microsoft Games.
  5. inside of this new folder, you create another one named Age of Empires III
  6. now just try to reinstall.
  It worked for me on Windows 8, I hope it helps someone.
