Agent shared over NFS installation

I'm trying to deploy EM 12.1.0.2 agents on a RAC 2 nodes in the cluster with a shared directory on NFS. After installing the first agent I use the instructions in the http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24628_01/install.121/e24089/install_agent_usng_shrd_hm.htm documentation to install the shared agent.
Deployment Type-> add a shared Agent Host
Target-> node1
OH-> same as target on node 1 (/ u02/oracle/agent12c)
Instance->/u02/oracle/agent12c/node2/agent_inst
However, he fails the prerequisite steps because it detects an agent on the host computer. Here is an excerpt of the newspapers which gives the pre-reqs has failed:

2013-05-13_11-43 - 34:INFO:DESCRIPTION: it is a precondition to ensure that there is no agent host does exist on the host computer. RESULT: WARNING RESULT TEXT: expected result: MS Agent should not exist in the host.
Result: A home agent already exists
Full version. The result of this review is: failure of < < < <
2013-05-13_11-43 - 34:INFO:DESCRIPTION: it is a precondition to check if the Agent Oracle Home or install Base Directory, is already registered with the inventory RESULT: TEXT OMITTED from the RESULT: expected result: New Oracle Home Agent should not be stored with the inventory
Actual result: Agent Oracle Home with the same /u02/oracle/agent12c/core/12.1.0.2.0 value exists
Full version. The result of this review is: failure of < < < <

Anyone seen this before?

Thank you
Leighton

I upgraded 12.1.0.3.0 NFS agents, but there were some errors during the upgrade. It was not properly detect the version of the correct agent so I uninstalled the agent shared only. Now I'm looking for the re - install the agent using the silent installation process.

The master agent is already installed and I try to create the list of plugin using the master agent but his failure.

$AGENT_HOME/perl /u02/oracle/agent12c/core/12.1.0.3.0/sysman/install/create_plugin_list.pl instancehome - / u02/oracle/agent12c/agent_inst

The Base Dir is

File: /rwFile

Failed to create the plugin file.

Make sure you have permission to write

It seems to be using the incorrect agent Base Directory.

  • Storage shared by NFS for RAC

    Hello

I intend to set up a node 2 CARS. However, I have only the internal drive to use and no SIN /SAN. So I intend to share some of the ability of alternatives I have on the internal nodes 1 & 2 discs and make shared storage using NFS. However I have a few questions about it.

Q1. Since the NFS mount will indeed be file system media, this means that for the storage for the Cluster option and the RAC database that I can only use option 'shared file system' and not 'ASM '?

I think what is confusing me is that I think that I read that the ASM disks can be complete physical disks, partitions of a disk, SAN LUNS or NFS?

If this is the case then it suggests that I can create an ASM disk based on a NFS mount?

I don't know how to do this - any help / advice would be appreciated because ideally, I would have preferred to create candidate ASM disks based on the shared NFS disk

    Thank you

    Jim

You can use NFS as your clustered file system, but if you want to use ASM we top of the page so it no problem: dd to create large files on the file system shared, for example,

    If DD \u003d/dev/zero of = / mnt/nfs/asmdisk1 bs = 1048576 count = 2048

and set your asm_diskstring parameter to point to them (or specify them as devices to be used at installation time). It is very easy to set up and is fully supported by Oracle of the uncle. I recorded a few demos that include this a year or two before, Oracle ASM free tutorial

  • Questions the agent (minimum distance of installation orders)

I have a few questions about agents for ODI.

First of all, lets say that I have a couple of agents set up for a production environment. We're in a box of SQL Server and is on a box of Essbase (just as examples). If I run a batch of OS file using the agent on the box of Essbase, the operating system batch file is running on this box Essbase? In other words, I don't have to set up some kind of special software (such as PSEXEC) or a script from the window to make the batch file of the operating system running on the remote server, would I? I guess that if I use the agent on the box of Essbase, because he just listen to and then sends the compiled code, that code would be executed on the Essbase server.

If I had but a single agent on SQL Server and you want to run a command on an Essbase server OS file, would be that batch file need to be put in place to be executed remotely?

In the second place, which must at least be installed on a server to create an agent on this box? The software ODI must be installed (so that drivers, the odiparms.bat file etc will be available for the agent) and then the agent installed through the command line (set up as a service). I suppose that if this is the case, there would be no need to change anything in the modules of topology or security, just to make sure that the drivers folder is updated and the odiparms.bat file is updated. However, is there a minimum amount of software that can be installed (essentially, the minimum of crude to get the agent works correctly).

Hope I'm being clear in my questions.

    Thanks for your help,

    Matt

    Matt
You seem to have got it. An agent is a process that runs on a server. If you run an OSCommand of this agent, it is called on that server. So if you for example want to run an excerpt from SQL Server using BCP, you will have performed by the agent in your SQL Server box. The output file "land" on the server where the command was executed.

To install an agent, you must still libraries etc. It runs as a Java application on this platform and requires the same etc. jdbc driver libraries that you use on the development environment. Use the Setup program to install, and there is only one installation of the agent. (if you cannot run the Setup program on your platform, then just move the directory oracledi to your installation media and configure the ODI_JAVA_HOME variable, and you are away.

  • Deploy shared in the installer Variablie

I'm having a problem with a variable shared in my application.  This application is integrated with a Setup program must be installed on a machine without labview.  After looking around, I came across this link and think it is close to what I need.  The only difference is that the link refers to an executable file, and the next step is what throws me:

    1. Use the entry path of the library to invoke node to point to the library (s) containing your shared variables. If the library (s) have been included in the support directory of the executable as indicated above, the (s) library will be copied to the folder data the executable.  The point of the entry path to the (s) library.

Because I do not use an executable file, I don't have not a folder 'data' to point the invoke node to.  I'm sure that other people must have experience this problem and am very curious to hear how it was resolved.

    See you soon!

As a follow-up, I found this link which can clarify the situation a little more.

Shared variables and stand-alone Applications or shared libraries

If you plan to distribute a stand-alone application that uses shared variables, do not include the file .lvlib in a LAW degree or the executable file. Use the page settings of the Source file of the Application Properties dialog box to change the Destination of the file .lvlib to a destination outside the executable or the LLB. You can deploy shared variables in two ways:

    • Write the application so that it deploys programmatically variable shared at the start time. Call the library to deploy method in the first level VI of the application. In the entrance to the library path of the method, use the relative path to the .lvlib file that contains the shared variable.
    • Deploy the variable shared on the computer or target engine shared Variable before running the application built manually.

If you plan to distribute a shared library that uses shared variables, do not include the .lvlib file in the shared library. Use the dialog box properties of the shared library File Source settings page to change the Destination of the file .lvlib to a foreign destination to the shared library.

  • With the help of the VCM agent

If I am deploying in an environment where virtual machines are already deployed without VCM VCM agent.  I can get that information from vCenter and not inside the guest OS.  What is the best way to deploy the agent after that the virtual machine is configured?

Go ahead, if I want to add the agent to my VM models, so that all the virtual machines are configured, is supported and it'll work?

If you have enough open connectivity (Windows machine can be administered remotely, possible to map shared drives, DCOM is admitted; UNIX/Linux machines allow ssh and scp or sftp) you can push agents from the collector. Otherwise you can deploy agents with command line installs, or by adding Windows agents to the GPO. All this is documented in the help of VCM.

Agents of pre-installed in the models is supported. Note that agents must be installed manually by running the agent install package to the machine to be placed in templates, and you should not collect the officer before taking the model. There is unique information created the agent during the first contact of the collector, so the deployment of a machine from a template with a never-before-collected installed agent enables the deployed instance to have its unique information implemented when it first met after the deployment.

  • Is it me? Fusion on Snow Leopard, Ubuntu 10.10: no network, none of the shared folders.

On my Macbook, I use VMWare Fusion course and installed Ubuntu 10.10, which worked pretty well. I'm not an expert in everything, I use Ubuntu only for very limited use and do not plan to make my standard OS, but in this case, I have no choice. For this work, I need to share files, copy and paste text and use the network.

But from the beginning, I have these problems:

#1: whenever I send the virtual machine to sleep and wake up more later he acknowledges no more network connection.

#2: I share a folder on my Mac OS but I can't see them in Ubuntu. To be exact, I can only see the public folders from Mac users, but not those that I added.

#3: copy / paste between Mac and Ubuntu does not work.

Then I looked through the menu and found that VMWare Tools are not installed, then I started the installation via the menu. The only result is that a CD of VMWare tools is downloaded and installed - and then nothing happens. There is a text "manifest.txt" file that contains version information and an archive that contains a Setup program. If I double-click on that one I am wondering with what application I want to open it. Very funny... I don't know how to use it.

    Any suggestions for a beginner?

In the VmWare Fusion menu, I choose the folders that are on Mac and decide if he is reading only or read and write.

Looks like you use folders shared HGFS and involved getting up from different Windows and Linux handle this. In Linux, look under/mnt/hgfs to find the HGFS folder shared.

I just changed one in Mac OS shared, everyone is allowed to read and write. Now I can see the content from Ubuntu. But I certainly don't want to share with all the members of my network. This folder is NOT in the list of folders that are common between Mac and Ubuntu, it is shared over the network, but not through VMWare.

OS X folders behave differently from HGFS shared - folders they use different protocols and transport mechanisms.

  • Poor ESXi 4 NFS Datastore Performance with various NAS systems

    Hello!

In testing, I found that I get between a half and a quarter of the e/s inside a guest performance when ESXi 4 systems connect to the using NFS data store if the clients connect to the exact same NFS share.  However, I don't see this effect if the data store using iSCSI or local storage.  This has been reproduced with different systems running ESXi 4 and NAS systems.

My test is very simple.  I created naked CentOS 5.4 minimum installation (completely updated 07/04/2010) with VMware Tools loaded and the creation time of a file of 256 MB using jj.  I create the file on the root (a VMDK stored in different data warehouses) partition or a directory of the NAS mounted via NFS, directly in the comments

My crucial test configuration consists of a single test PC (Intel 3.0 GHz Core 2 Duo E8400 CPU with a single Intel 82567LM-3 Gigabit NC and 4 GB RAM) running ESXi 4 connected to a printer HP Procurve 1810 - 24 G, which is connected to a VIA EPIA M700 NAS system running OpenFiler 2.3 with two 1.5 to 7200 tr / MIN SATA disks configured in front of software RAID 1 and dual Gigabit Ethernet NIC.  However, I have reproduced it with different ESXi PC and NAS systems.

This is a release of one of the tests.  In this case, the VMDK is a store of data stored on the NAS via NFS:

    -

    root@iridium /sync #; Sync; Sync; time {dd if = / dev/zero of = bs = 1 M count = test.txt 256 sync; sync; sync ;}}

    sys 0m0.659s
    mnt root@iridium#.

    -

The first dd is a VMDK stored in a connected via NFS data store.  The dd ends almost immediately, but the synchronization takes nearly 40 seconds!  It's less than 7 MB per second transfer rate: very slow.  Then I get the exact same NFS share that ESXi is used to store data directly in the comments and repeat the DD.  As you can see, the SD is longer and the synchronization takes no real time (as befits a NFS share with active sync), and the whole process takes less than 10 seconds: this is four times faster!

I don't see these results on data warehouses mounted via NFS.  For example, here is a test on the guest even running from a mounted via iSCSI data store (using the exact same SIN):

    -

    root@iridium /sync #; Sync; Sync; time {dd if = / dev/zero of = bs = 1 M count = test.txt 256 sync; sync; sync ;}}

As you can see, the performance of NFS direct comments for each of the three are very consistent.  ISCSI and the performance of the store local data disk are both a bit better than that - as I expect.  But the mounted via NFS data store gets only a fraction of the perfomance of the any of them.  Obviously, something is wrong.

I was able to reproduce this effect with an Iomega Ix4 - 200 d as well.  The difference is not as dramatic, butalways important and consistent.  Here is a test of a guest of CentOS using a VMDK stored in a data store provided by an Ix4 - 200 d via NFS:-.

Once more, the direct NFS mount gives very consistent results.  But using the diskette provided by ESXi on a mounted NFS datastore gives still worse results.  They are not as terrible as OpenFiler test results, but they are constantly between 60% and 100% longer.

Why is this?  What I've read, NFS performace is supposed to be within a few percent of the iSCSI performance, and yet I see between 60% and 400% worse performance.  And this isn't a case of the SIN is not able to provide correct NFS performance.  When I connect to the NAS via NFS directly inside the guest, I see much better than when ESXi connects to the same NAS (the same proportion!) via NFS.

The configuration of ESXi (network and network cards) is 100% stock.  There is no VLAN in place, etc., and ESXi system has only one

Single Gigabit adapter.  It is certainly not optimal, but it doesn't seem to me to be able to explain why a virtualized guest is able to get a lot better performance NFS as ESXi itself to the same NAS.  After all, they both use the same exact suboptimal network configuration...

Thank you very much for your help.  I would be grateful any idea or advice, you might be able to give me.

    Hi all

It is very definitely a performance O_Sync problem. It is well known that NFS VMware shops still use O_Sync for writes little matter what share put for a default value. VMware uses a custom file locking system so you really can't compare it to a normal NFS share connection to a different NFS client.

I have validated that the performance will be good if you have an SSD cache or storage target with enough reliable battery backup.

  • Installation of VMware server redundent

We run a server VMware (VMware ESX Server version 3.5.0 Update 2).  I have about 8 virtual machines running on the server.  We backup each virtual machine in the virtual machine, not outside of it.  I want to buy an additional VMware Server which will provide redundancy.  The second server VMware will also store some VMS, but there will be enough space on the two servers if you die, I can restore to another.  Someone please lead me in the right direction?  I.E. - is there a component of VMware that I need to follow both servers support between them?  Outside the redundant material, purchase another license complete for VMWare ESX Server?

    Hello

Need you depends on the level of redundancy, you need.  Here are some examples... If you have X ESX hosts you will need X licenses regardless of the method of redundancy.

Using VMware HA failover mode, this requires a shared either NFS over TCP (NAS), iSCSI, or SAN storage. Some of the features of type available non - NAS NAS are HP LeftHand Networks VSA and Xtravirt XVS. The latter two run from your ESX and VMS host and maintain redundancy between the nodes.

Redundancy via SAN/NAS replication is also available and VMware SRM fits in do SAN/NAS to SAN/NAS replication.

Redundancy through replication using elements such as Veeam Backup and Vizioncore vReplicator, which are tools of software replication to replicate virtual machines from one node to another.

Redundancy via the backup and restore. This method VMs from one host backups and restores to another host. It is very similar to the replication but heavier.

How redundancy you want depends a bit much you are willing to spend, but if you have 1 node and you want to replicate to another node, you need at least 2 licenses of VMware ESX to get there.
