all programs and files in the menu start (excpet 4-5) have disappeared.

I use vista.  When I click on the start menu, there are no programs not listed and when I choose all PROGRAMS there are only 8 folders listed.

I stopped twice and logged on as user admin and regular with the same results.  All of these programs were here 2 days ago (do not use computer yesterday).

I can use Explorer to open files on the c drive and the programs open from there without any problem.

any suggestions...

Thank you for your response.

I did a system restore to 4-5 days before I noticed the problem and still had.  To make a long story short, I went 30 days to discover the culprit.

I had downloaded a spy software called Comodo a month ago.  I care for her so I unistaleld it.  During uninstallation, he deleted my program files on the start menu.  Rather unusual, I think, so I don't have the time to uninstall a 2nd with the same result.

I removed the Comodo manually and the system is back to normal.

See you soon

  • Need to backup all programs and files without the System Image

    Hi all

Recently, I myself in a dilemma. I installed 4 additional disks with the intention of creating a RAID volume supported by the BIOS. To do this, I need to change the BIOS setting of the controller which includes all the volumes, including my boot drive (that I don't intend to RAID). The problem I have is that when I pass the UEFI to RAID controller, Windows Recovery will not use the System Image I did. He said that the volume was created under a different arrangement (Bios vs. EFI).

What are my options? Is there a different backup setting, which allows to keep all my installed software? I am not concerned with the data that I can copy it to an external volume, but it would take several days to get all of my software reinstalled. I would like to avoid this. I guess I'll have to reinstall Windows Pro 8.1 and then use a backup program to restore everything. If this is the case, then I need to know which backup program will work. If there is a better way, I would like to know. I see my options in the form, get another backup program, get a map of controller for the boot drive or the RAID volume or just reinstall.

    Thank you

  • If I do not have a windows vista sp2 install disk how can I erase all programs and files from the laptop?

I would remove ALL of my laptop which is running vista Sp2 and I have not a disk to install it from what can do?

    Hello

Here are the different ways to reinstall Vista

Contact the manufacturer of the laptop computer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

    ____________________________________________________________

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

    __________________________________________________________

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

  • How can I MOVE buttons on taskbar to a new location without having to close all programs and resume in the order I want?

I like to keep the buttons in my taskbar has organized with the browser and messaging on the left, followed by Windows Explorer and other items. If they get out of order or programs are loaded into a different order, how can I MOVE the buttons to a new location without having to close all programs and resume in the order I want? In addition, sometimes, one of program buttons seems in itself to migrate out of place and I need to get back to where it should be: same problem.

    Hi shohareZohre

Thank you for using the Microsoft Answers Forums!

The task bar is the horizontal bar at the bottom of your screen time. In contrast to the office, which can get obscured by the windows on top of it, the taskbar are visible nearly all the time. It includes four main sections:

    ·         The Start button, which opens the start menu.

    ·         The Quick Launch bar, which allows you to start programs with a single click.

    ·         The middle section, which shows you what programs and documents you have open and allows you to quickly switch between them.

    ·         The notification area, which includes a clock and icons (small pictures) that communicate the status of certain programs and computer settings.

Add or remove programs on the Quick Launch toolbar

The Quick Launch toolbar is located on the task bar and is a convenient way to open programs. You can add or remove program icons in the Quick Launch toolbar so that you have easy access to the programs that you use frequently.

To add a program icon to the Quick Launch toolbar

Click the icon for the program to add (you can find most icons of programs on the start menu or the desktop) and then drag it to the Quick Launch toolbar.

Note: If you don't see the toolbar tools quick launch, right-click on an empty area of the taskbar, click Toolbars, and then click quick launch.

To remove a program to the Quick Launch toolbar icon

Right-click on the icon of the program and then click Remove.

Notes: ·         Delete an icon from the taskbar does not remove its corresponding computer program.

    ·         If you want to stop showing a toolbar on the taskbar, right-click an empty area of the taskbar, point to toolbars, and then click the item that you want to stop broadcasting.

NOTE: The ability to move the programs in the taskbar is not possible in windows Vista but the same functionality is available in Windows 7. Please see the link below.

On a floppy disk? Then you had very little information and very little, very small
    programs.

    > I can do this in Vista, so there is nothing but the OS and the A / virus on the HARD drive, and when I use the computer, I just loaded my CD, and then select the files or the programs I want to use.

    Two separate issues here:

    1. you can do with the data (if you have little evidence enough that it is
fits on a CD). There is no problem, except that you must think
all with no copy of this CD, as backup.

    2. you can * not * do with programs (with the exception of one very occasional
-generally small and simple program). The programs must be installed on
the hard drive. And this isn't a Vista problem, there is a problem with all
    versions of Windows.

  • Computer laptop Windows 7 can see other wired PC via a wireless connection by specifying the box "search programs and files" drive letter in the start menu, but not in the network screen

My laptop with Windows 7 (64-bit) can not see the other desktop PC running Windows XP via a wireless connection, except if it is plugged into my laptop so only I can see them on the network.
I checked all the working groups to ensure that all are the same.

However, when my laptop into Wi - Fi, I could see the other wired desktop PC by specifying the network path in "search programs and files" to the start menu in the Windows 7 laptop, I was able to add network folder by specifying the drive letter for the connection and file I want to connect via a right click on the network to connect a network drive...

Then, finally I can access any other desktop pc wired to shared folder via the Wi - Fi by this method.

But I still don't see them on eventhrough network I can access by this method. Please help me solve this problem.

    Hi Hkway,

    • You are able to see the Windows 7 machine Windows XP computer when connected through wireless and if it is accessible through network?

First of all, check if the NetBIOS protocol is installed on your Windows XP computer. To install the NetBIOS Protocol, follow these steps:

    1. click on start, click on Control Panel and then double-click network connections.

    2. right click on the card that you want to add NetBEUI to and then click Properties.

    3. on the general tab, click on install.

    4. click on Protocol and then click Add.

    5. Click to select NetBIOS protocol in the list, and then click OK.

    6. restart your computer.

Also make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled in the Windows XP computer. To do this, follow these steps.

    Turn on NetBIOS over TCP/IP

    1. click onStart, click on Control Paneland then click on network connections and Internet.

    2. click onnetwork connections.

    3. right click onLocal area connectionand then click Properties.

    4. click onInternet Protocol (TCP/IP)and then click Properties.

    5. click on the tabgeneral and then click Advanced.

    6. click on theWINS tab.

    7. underNetBIOS setting, click Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP, and then clickOK twice.

    8. click onclose to close the local area network connection properties dialog box.

    9. close the network connections window.

After following the above steps, check if you can access the computer Windows XP of Windows 7 computer using the wireless connection.

I hope this helps. Let us know the results.

  • Wrong icon in the Menu Start 10 Acrobat

I have Acrobat X Pro on a new computer running Windows 10. Recently, I noticed that the Acrobat icon on my menu start changed the icon Photoshop PS. When I click it, it opens Acrobat, but it is the icon of the PS on the taskbar. When I go to the location of the application in Windows Explorer, the .exe file has the correct Acrobat icon. If I create a shortcut on the desktop, the icon is also correct. When I pin the shortcut or .exe file in the menu start, however, it replaces the PS icon. When I right click and go to properties, the 'change icon' button is grayed out.

While this does not seem to take into account the problems of functionality, it is annoying and I worry, it might be another matter. MalwareBytes scans turned up clean, but obviously I am concerned also with the possibility of a virus. I tried 'Repair Acrobat Installation' as well, but no luck.

I don't know if this is something Acrobat or a problem of Windows 10, since it seems to happen only with the icon on the start menu. The only possibility I can think is that I had done research on some software manipulation of PDF for the client's work. I don't know if this has changed in some way of the icon. I uninstalled the software and the icon is always false. I know, he had problems with PDF being changed for Firefox symbols at the time, but PDF files are very well. It is only the Acrobat itself and only the icon on the start menu.

In any case, I want to remove Acrobat before moving on to the search in Windows 10 as the culprit.

    Than you!

I had the same problem and solved with the following workaround.  Detach your Launcher Acrobat in the task bar and create a new shortcut on the desktop of the "acrobat.exe" in C:\Program Files (x 86) \Adobe\Acrobat DC\Acrobat (not from the start menu). Open this shortcut Acrobat and while it is open, PIN to the taskbar.  You can safely delete the shortcut on the desktop after it and the correct icon will stick.

  • I have problems keeping records and files of the administrator and the user separate in my laptop (HP Pavilion dv6700) under Windows Vista Home Premium.

I have problems separating records and files of the administrator and the user. My computer is a laptop (HP Pavilion dv6700), used as a home computer only by myself, I like to keep the two distinct roles, but am unable to as Vista seems to be considered as one and the same. This scenario has arisen as follows:

Initially, when I bought the laptop - approx. 18 months back - Windows Vista Home Premium was preinstalled, with the name 'Administrator' as an administrator. To customize the operating system and to use safely, I installed a user 'Renault', as a Standard account user.

After awhile, I changed the name of the Director of "Renault", for reasons I have can not remember now. This caused Vista to combine folders and files of the two "users" in one, I found difficult to deal with, that I could not operate my laptop as just a Standard user, but is still considered the "administrator." On the one hand, this greatly increased spam in my email accounts. So I tried to reset the name of the administrator as 'Administrator' itself and keep my user name as "Renault", as originally the case.  But Vista me has failed to create a new user under the name "Administrator". So I created a new user under the name "System administrator", with administrative privileges. This has been accepted by Vista.

But I forgot to change the user account for 'Renault', on the Standard account, so there was BOTH administrator accounts at the same time on my laptop! I realized that now only. The net result was that all the files that I created under the system administrator user were still being displayed under the user account of Renault. A few days back, I realized this and tried to separate the files correctly, but it has not been possible. No matter what I copied the account of the user in the files under the system administrator account, the files have been copied on account of the user himself.

I tried to fix this by changing the name of the user account in something very different, AND as a Standard user. but this also does not work, as all folders and files under the administrator account system shows it as being under the user account of "Renault" only!

Then, I deleted the user 'Renault' from the list of the user, but he was not yet of any help. Whenever I tried to create a new file under the system administrator, Vista responds with the message, "C:\user\Rajaram folder is not present. Will I create a new? ", which defeat the same purpose of my tent to isolate the administrator account and the user account.

SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE WITH A SOLUTION, - OTHER THAN REFORMATTING MY C:\ DISK AND REINSTALL VISTA AGAIN - TO GET OUT OF THIS MESS, IT SEEMS TO ME YOU HAVE CREATED AND HELP ME TO HAVE AN ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT AND OTHER UNIQUE STANDARD USER ACCOUNTS PROPERLY ISOLATED.

I would be always grateful for a quick and helpful response.
    Thanks in advance.

    -RAJARAM77

Thanks for your reply. It was very helpful / sorry your proposed solution has not solved my problem. Kind regards. -Rajaram77

Better to delete the user account except the one that was built in the administrator account that you renamed. Before this backup all your data files of these user accounts.
Then rename the buil into account administrator as 'administrator '. Then you create another administrator account and use it and never the user built in Administrator account and leave it alone.
