  Thank you Joel S. Before I could put your advice into practice a friend recommended a friend who advised me to do a system restore, which he said he would be happy to do it for me. So look like an easy option, I agreed. It seems to have solved the problem (fingers crossed), but now it seems that I need to format the hard drive. If you have any tips on formatting hard drive I'm all ears. Thank you Owen

  1. is the issue limited to the Skype connection?

  2. you remember bringing all recent software or hardware changes on the system before the show?

  This seems to be a bug related to the latest update of Skype.

  1. the first thing to do is to make sure that the computer is completely virus/malware-free. Googling around this error produced quite a few links where the posters were or had been infected with Spyware Protect 2009 rogue.

  Hi ashwini_mahadev, I see that this is your first post here. Welcome to our community!

  There are several ways to solve this problem.  Here's what I recommend to try:

  1. Try to repair the association by downloading and running these files:
     Fix LNK (shortcut) file Associations
     and
     Fix EXE file associations

     After you download and run these two links, try using your files again.

  2. If the problem persists, I would recommend you to restore your system to before that was the problem by going back to just before the problem started.  Windows converts this easy and safe. Here's how:
     1. Press + R to display the race.
     2. Type RSTRUI and then press OK.
     3. Choose the date and time you want to restore (it will also tell you the names of all the programs that have been installed at this time).
     4. Click next to restore your system at that time here.

  The best part about this, is that it is completely safe. If you don't like the food, you can cancel it.  Or you can try again with a different date.  It will not affect one of your personal files/images, it restores only the system return settings to their operational status.  If that's really the way the faster, safer and easier to get "back in the market".

  I could solve the problem by restarting, F8 to open the boot options, choose the repair mode and system restore to a few days before.

  The user of the pc says it all started when they double click on a file and was prompted to choose a program to open the file with... they chose Microsoft Word and it changed all of their MS Word icons icons.

  Thanks for your post.  You experience this problem on all user accounts?  If you have not tested, try the following:

  Click Start > right click on my computer > select Manage

  Expand local users and groups

  Click on the users folder > in the right pane, right-click and select new users

  Fill in the appropriate data to create a new user account.

  To disconnect from the computer and log on as the new user

  You still see the white background?

  How to restore icons on all of my favorites, like today, it's just a long list of sites with no small icons after you install the latest firefox. Bookmark icons, however, are appearing in the window of the browser section and not appearing is not at the top of the bookmark favorite screen section.

  Have updated firefox to ten and all the icons are again. So they must have fixed, did not turn in solution Matt_G, as warnings told me to tinker.
