  I guess that your VMS migrate between ESX servers because configuration automated DRS ESX cluster level. You can replace it for a specific virtual machine.   Need a little help I'm running the following

  vCenter Server 4.0.0 (build 208111)

  ESX Server 4.0.0 (build 208167)

  I have a computer virtual running WIndows 2000 Advanced and when I try and open the console I get a black screen and the error message following

  I scoured the data store and all the files of the virtual machine appear to be in place, I thought deletin the virtual machine from the inventory and add the vmdk file, it would be a good idea?

  Remove and add new inventory won't hurt (you could lose data historial for virtual machine), it probably won't solve the problem.

  I doubt, it is a problem with the .vmx file, but you can try:

  -Remove the VM of the inventory

  -To create the new virtual machine (with the same characteristics as the virtual machine that you removed), name it differently and do not add hard drives that it

  -Change the new VM settings and add the existing VMDK virtual machine that you deleted

  -Power on VM and try

  • You should always have your complete file to the virtual machine original intact, in case you need, you will always have your original vmx file to add it to the inventory.

  By doing these steps you re-create the vmx file.

  Basically, it seems that the system has trouble finding / access to one or more of the files associated with the virtual machine. Given that you can migrate to and not the host, I suspect it's the permissions problem reported in the first thread.

• Unable to resume Windows 7 virtual machines with vmrun

  Hi all

  I am running WS9 (now WS10) under Linux (CentOS 6, 64-bit) and I have a script that runs every night to suspend my VMs, make a snapshot of the filesystem for the backup and resume virtual machines. This used to work properly, but in the last few months I've noticed that any Windows 7 VMs I have running are never picked up, and I have to use the GUI to launch them again in the morning. Very annoying!

  This is what happens when I try to resume the virtual machine:

  OK, so as usual when I take the time to present a problem, I fixed it.

  The same virtual machines being run as a non-root user works perfectly. Must always be a bug somewhere, but I'm satisfied of the workaround to run as a non-root user, that it is true that I should have done throughout anyway!

  I'm working this problem - there are currently two ESX 3.5 hosts.

  There was a bad cut - both ESX hosts are back to the top and works very well, however NONE of the virtual machine will power on.

  The error message is

  So the problem seems to be that any ESX host can contact the server licenses - well duh, it is turned off and ESX will not let me back on the power!

  So, I have connected to the host with vcenter VM on it and tried to change the license in evaluation mode to see if it would work.

  No, error, cannot change the licensing mode, cannot contact the license server.

  Then I create a license file based on the host and attempted to transfer to the ESX and change the licensing mode.

  Nope, no licenses available for this operation (WTF, why should a permit to install a license? very stupid)

  Is it possible via SSH I can force the host to use the based on the host of license and download via SCP?

  Any other idea? (short to build a new vcenter on a physical machine, downloaded license and create new DB)

  Since the license server gives ESX 14 day grace period when it loses contact with the license server, everything should restart very well unless you're down for 14 days. If you've had a long break, installed the license server on any old desktop and redirect the licenses to that - once you have the license server up, redirect the return.

  You can also copy the license server to another ESX host or use vmkfstools to export and load it on a VM Workstation.

  This is an age old catch 22, but the solutions above, will get through it.

  The topic explains quite well what is happening.  I am trying to feed a virtual machine that has been closed gracefully to add memory, and now we get an error with the status "there are not enough licenses installed to perform the operation.  I went to 'Licenses' under 'Administration' and it does not to be any shortage of licenses.  Can someone help me with this?    I'm dead in the water right now with an unhappy customer...
