APEX slow when SSL is active.

Hello. Recently, we turned on SSL to our instance of Production of the APEX. When go to departure at any APEX page, there's a 7-10 second delay. After the first load of the page, the pages load in a few seconds. If I do not click on a link for 1 min, I'll get that time of 10 seconds again when you go to another page. as long as I'm constantly navigate in an application, there is no problem. The problem occurs only after slowing for at least 45 to 60 seconds.

A single server runnin Solaris with 10G database / Apex 3.1.2.00.02. The system administrator also set apache to pass http requests to https.

Using SSL causes within 2 to 4 minutes? Then, something is definitely wrong with the SSL song.

I can tell you that on RARE occasions, I've seen SSL handshakes take a long time. On these occasions, we tracked down the issue the client attempts to retrieve the list of CRL during the initial SSL handshake. The URL of the CRL (CRL) list is embedded in most of the certificates and some clients check really.

We determined that the customer could not download the Revocation of its source list. The source of the LCR has been blocked by a firewall which ignored the packets rather than issue a TCP reset. If the client would send a TCP syn to the CRL server and a response time-out. Then he would again and again. The result was a multiple minute delay, which eventually resulted in the client to drop the LCR and make the SSL connection anyway.

You are on the right track. You might consider putting a sniffer of packages on your client (wireshark for windows) and watch your customer traffic when it tries to connect to the server SSL/Apex. If you see a search out to DNS or a TCP connection to a strange server when SSL connection attempt, then it is probably the CRL check.

I can tell you that I ran a many million hits per month from the web server that was 100% SSL on a box of 400 Mhz 2 channels with 512M RAM and running Solaris 8 (intel). NOT once, he had a problem with load due to SSL activity. The server lasted from 2000 to 2006 before we virtualized finally it.
