Apple v/s Windows. Question on making it compatible DVD.

I have the MacBook Pro. Can I download Windows Media Components for QuickTime, but what I really need to do is download a 'movie maker' to create DVDs from my existing files/videos etc that we don't w/Apple products to display on any (most) DVD reader/s. make sense? If I still had a Windows PC it would not be a problem. I don't like windows, just not PC/Laptops that are associated with. If more information is needed please let me know.

Thank you for all your comments.

To better help, please see the questions below:

    ·         What is the brand and model of your PC? Please also pass on the edition of Windows Vista that you have installed.

    ·         The problem occurs with only one DVD or several? Please also relay the exact error message when this problem occurs.

In addition, if you have Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate, DVD capabilities are included as part of the operating system. If you have Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows Vista business, or Windows Vista Business installed, you can add or buy a DVD decoder pack to improve DVD playback experience.

  • Windows 7 will not recognize the dvd drive

Windows 7 will not recognize the dvd drive, although it worked well for more than two years.  Now I can't access it to install new software.

It will not be displayed in the Device Manager, bad shooters to say it is not connected or is, tried Fixit fix (could not as "not applicable to your computer update"), uninstall iTunes (in the case of a conflict - even if it worked with the DVD of > 1 year), etc., but still cannot access the DVD.

It's obviously a known issue, given that a support page - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976187 that recommends the fix or manually disable ALPM active power management.  If it of a known issue, why is not included in the updates and that I have to disable ALPM power if management it worked ok before?

What now? Is turn off the power, my only option?  What happens if it is not yet recognized after that?

    Hey nongeekbetty,

The DVD is encoded for a different region. Most DVD readers only works with DVDs that are coded for the computer was purchased in the same region. So if you buy a DVD in one country and then try to play on one computer from another country this DVD could not play.

    Step 1:

Make sure that the DVD region is set to the appropriate region:

    a. Click Start.

    (b) in the search box, type Device Manager.

    c. right-click on the DVD drive.

    d. right-click on it and select Properties.

    e. make sure that the region will be resolved.

  • General information about licensing of the "Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate, Version full (PC DVD)"

    Hello

I've never had to buy a Windows DVD facility before so my questions may seem a bit Basic.

I intend to buy a copy of 'Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate', full Version (PC DVD) from Amazon. (I think I should be clear of a counterfeit product, if I buy direct from Amazon).

Am I right in thinking that if I buy this product so I can install it on several PC as long as I have installed it on more than one PC at a time?

Really I intend to install first to my current PC, familiarize yourself with Windows 7 and then, finally, just abandon my old PC, buy a new and then install Windows 7 on this new PC. Is it possible for me to do it without breaking the terms of licenses for this product?

Finally, (assuming I have reason to think that it is normal to do so) is there something I should do that I could not be aware of the transfer Windows 7 from my old PC to a new? I think I mean it's OK to me to erase the hard drive from the old PC before binning - and which supports Windows 7, having already been installed on this PC?

I am new to Windows 8.  I try to be positive and I hope that learning to use it in the coming year.

In Windows 7, there was a nice photo viewer/editor that let me also arrange slide shows, add music and burn the DVD the same.

Is there something like that in Windows 8, or possibly a download?

    Thank you, Lee

In regards to Yes Photo Viewer, Windows Photo Viewer is included in 8.0/8.1 0r Windows, you can install the latest version of Windows Essentials. With regard to the DVD recorder, that she was abducted by design, you can buy Windows Media Center to 10,00 US $ if you have Pro version or update Propak for US $100.00. Otherwise, there are many others, burning options - PowerDVD from Cyberlink is my choice.  Hope this helps and if you need help please post and we will be happy to help you.
