  I have on my hard drive to a number of AppleWorks files. I still have an old PowerBook with AppleWorks installed so I could - and want to-use to open all my AppleWorks files and save them is a different format (they are for the most part, spreadsheets). However, I do not know how to find them: they are scattered everywhere. I could search by extension - except that they don't seem to have an extension. When I get info, it has no extension (and "hide extension" is grayed out) and they are described as "file executable Unix»

  Is it possible that I can identify, except through all my files (all 15 million of them...) one by one and guess...? It would be better than nothing, if I could get all the executable files from Unix, but I don't know how do either...

  Except that I now find that my version of AppleWorks cannot save as anything other than AppleWorks and ClarisWorks - there seems to be no installation "export." It seems that copy - paste is the only way to get the contents of an AppleWorks spreadsheet in a NeoOffice one (which I suppose is more laborious that open and save in a different format). Unless anyone has any other ideas?

  I have old Clarisworks and Appleworks, documents dating back to 2004 are now Unix executable files. How can I access them.  I work currently in Yosemite and that MS Word.

  The icon of the "Unix Exécutable" file simply means that OS X doesn't know what app to associate these files, then it will link to the unix shell because the PI is set to their attributes. It doesn't mean they 'changed' as such.

  It would have been much easier to migrate these files ages ago: AppleWorks was "killed" by Apple in 2007, and he stopped work on the Lion OS and upward.

  It also depends on what type of files you have.

  Text documents and spreadsheets stored in AppleWorks 6 should be opened in page numbers and Apple applications, respectively. Before text documents that will probably suffice to be opened in a text editor, such as TextEdit (or the free TextWrangler), and then the cut raw text in the 'noise' that represents the formatting of the AppleWorks. You will be very happy if you can get 5 AppleWorks and ClarisWorks spreadsheets to open in anything - the same for drawings and other types of documents.

  Your alternative is to find someone who has a Mac running Snow Leopard, on which they can run AppleWorks 6.2.9, then to open and convert all your documents to other formats. Another option is to use one of the "Classic" Mac emulators, like Sheepshaver, to mimic the environment of Mac OS 9 and run AppleWorks there, then convert all.

  Document formats that are not widely used or open standards are prone to become totally useless if you have no application to read. Once an application becomes not supported and requires really old hardware and OS versions, then you must start the migration to a more durable format.

  I have a lot of old Appleworks files that I can be more open because they are not supported.  I had to keep an old iMac that is still just able to endure the old Appleworks both latest software, but it is causing more and more problems to each new upgrade.  To copy and save in a ' doc or "docx is always possible, but there are too many for my time availability.  Does anyone know of an app that would always allow me to access that info?

• light processing for iBook?

  I have an iBook clamshell (indigo) that I found and dusted off. its got 192 MB of ram, a disk of 10 GB and 366ppc G3, he also runs tiger 10.4.11. I know its very outdated but it works and turns a semi OS always modern and id like to use it to take notes in class. I know that Notepad in stock works very well, but id like a few more features. I'm not sure what I thought the last time that I used it because it also has full 2009 iWork programs running hardly. I'm looking for something more light so when I type theres not a full 2 seconds delay from when I press a button and it appears on the screen! Once again, as a new note-taking machine.

  Perhaps this may work OK, if you don't need something too involved.

  Some of the older software is more difficult to find and be wary of softonic

  and other third party sites that may offer securities, but download junkware.

  We have a Mac Mini end of 2014 and have attached an old drive to a PowerMac 2002 and discovered that we have important documents that were created with AppleWorks 6.2.9 that we have been missing.  Is there any tool that will open these documents to us, or any way to print?  The PowerMac is long dead.

• Does anyone have the ability to convert a file of 1969 created on Appleworks to an Excel spreadsheet or numbers.

  I have a "spreadsheet" type document that has been created in Appleworks in 1969.  Since it is an old program to an operating system that is not current, I can't open it.   Does anyone have the ability to convert this document for me in a modern such as numbers or Excel file?

  I have several databases that were generated in Appleworks 6.  But now I have an iMac Intel and Appleworks

  will not work.  I watched Filemaker Pro but to convert it into a form this program uses, I have access to the files.

  And they are all ' grayed out' when I go to them in Filemaker Pro.  The Appleworks disc I have me give

  error "cannot install on the Intel computer.  So, how can I restore my database?

  I do not have the information more to all redo them manually!

  I'm on OS Lion 10.7.5 on an Intel iMac.

  It offers other options that have been tested on AppleWorks and Claris files.

  However, I don't remember iWorks having a database component, like AppleWorks. This site includes options for AW databases too.

  As you found, AppleWorks only ran natively on MacIntel before (pre-2006 PowerPC) and in emulation mode on the Intel Macs using OS 10.6 Snow Leopard running through his emulation in Rosetta for applications written for the PowerPC Macs.

  I always use the Ipad2 and it works fine, except that lately apps seem to take forever to open.  I'm still on OS7, but I heard that OS8 and OS9 slowing the Ipad2 even more and that it is better to not upgrade.  And then, maybe apps only be supported much longer on OS7?  The strange thing is, it seems that since OS 9 is out my apps seem to take longer to open, even though I have not yet updated.  Or maybe is there anything else to slow down my Ipad?

  For example, the Ipad takes about 45 seconds to work when it is turned on.  Safari takes about 10 seconds to open a Web page e-mail. Facebook takes 15 seconds to open, but if I try to sync with the MyVegas application that I use sometimes, it may take more than a minute for synchronization to occur.  The MyVegas app takes about 30 seconds to open, 15 seconds is just a black screen.  I never had time to long black screen until recently.  And with all other applications closed.

  Any advice on how to make applications opens more quickly or which operating system is best?  Also, if I were to try OS9 and didn't like it, could I go down again?

  My Ipad still looks and works very well, would be a shame to have to replace just because of the operating system or slow times app.

• 2nd tray for accessories

  Using OSX 10.5.8 on a PPC, Officejet Pro 8100 machine works very well without any problems.

  Just added new 2nd 250 sheets paper, computer tray will not see, can't print to it, in gray, just checked the second option tray in the printer configuration, have changed the default to tray 2 auto and locked Tray 1, used choose setting in the print dialog box, nothing works.

  Have removed and reinstalled drivers, updated the firmware, any ideas please.

  Thanks for the reply, I had downloaded the latest drivers and firmware update from HP.

  Had a play around this morning and curiously printing from Photoshop CS and a few old doc Appleworks I use still does not, have the impression on tray 2 in gray dialog box. However, I tried Safari 5, FF 3.6 and Bean (word processing) and they all see the tiroir2 so I'm guessing it's something with those who are causing the problem. I hope to soon get a new Intel Mac, so the problem should disappear. Will live with it for now, thanks again aid.

• AppleWorks won´t run

  Moved to os 10.7.2 than just Lion to recognize that all AppleWorks (6.2.9) not open no more. Left the folder AppleWorks my laptop for my mac (running Snow Leopard 10.6.8) living room and it still worked like a charm.

  So I decided to buy AppleWorks VMware on my laptop as well.
  I installed VMware Fusion 4.1 comments-OS 10.6.8. Moved the folder from my laptop, but unfortunately without success AppleWorks...

  The AppleWorks jumps on the pier a couple of times and then goes to rest without opening.
  Also installed OS 10.5.8 - invited and got the same result.

  The console gives the following error message:

  Maybe you copied AppleWorks via the VMware Shared Folders...? In this case, in order to preserve everything, you first zip the folder to the original application, and then to decompress once copied into the virtual Mac OS X (server) machine.

But now that I changed, my iMessage works well for my iPhone, but on my iPad, I have no option to choose my phone number. I tried to reset iMessage, reset my iPad, everything.
