  • I installed windows 7 and the desktop icons and bar tasks are enormous

    Original title: Windows 7

I installed windows 7 and the desktop icons and bar tasks are enormous, go to Web pages, I have to use the scrollbar at the bottom of page to see the other half of the page - he said could also be a driver problem, but don't know what I'm looking for - someone can help?

    Hello

Yes, well part of the problem from the point of view of Dell is the only "acceptable" operating system for the Office of series 4600 XP. So they have no drivers 'official' for any function of Windows 7!

But first I need more information on the video card. Try this (on the Dell site): 4600 system is supplied either with the built-in car video or a dedicated real card video.  You should know that you got.  Right-click of your mouse on the desktop, click on Properties in the next area, you see.  This will bring you into the display properties.  Now click on settings at the top right of this next area, click Next on the advance .  Now, click on the adapter on the top.  Just below the upper on this last box, you will see your listed video adapter.

You will need this information, regardless of where you get help. My best recommendation is that you go to the community of Dell and after a question here. Someone may have already found one, but there is nothing official since the operating system is not officially supported.

I'm sorry, there is nothing more I can do.

    Kind regards

    Original title: Audio drivers:

installed windows 7 64 bit, but there is no sound driver. Ive been to my card mother website http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM2/M2N32SLI_DeluxeWireless_Edition/

to get the drivers for my motherboard since my motherboard is used and came with no driver
ultimately my PC does not claim any audio drivers, ive went into the bios and the same group leader to get sounds and weeks of googeling and research and still no luck and desperately need help to get the sound to my PC

all your help has been very useful and instructive for the future of the resolution of this problem, but in the end, no audio drivers are compatible because the author of this motherboard is the audio drivers for the version of windows 7. I have audio now because my friend gave me an extra sound card laying around. Thank you to all who tried to help out me :)

  • How to install Windows 7 on several desktop computers?

I would like information about how to install Windows 7 on desktop sixteen I just built.

I build them from scratch. I want to know how to install Windows 7 on them.

What type of disc do I need to buy... Do I have to buy 16 disks in Windows 7... or is there a simpler solution?

OK, I'll look into the full retail version. That means, correct me if I'm wrong, what with the commercial full version Windows, I can install it on all built I want, as many times I want, it just cannot be installed on multiple computers that is active.

    No, incorrect.

    Full version (retail):

-a computer can only be reinstalled many times on the same computer.

-Includes the rights of transfer to another computer.

-Does not require a qualifying earlier version of Windows.

    -Expensive

    Upgrade version (detail):

-a computer can only be reinstalled many times on the same computer.

-Includes the rights of transfer to another computer.

-require a qualifying earlier version of Windows.

-Expensive, but less expensive full version

    OEM System Builder version:

The OEM of Windows 7 versions are identical to the versions commercial full license with the following exception:

-OEM versions don't offer any free direct support from Microsoft technical support Microsoft

-OEM Licenses are tied to the computer first you install and activate it on

-OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

-OEM versions does not move directly from an older Windows operating system

But, even once, correct me if I'm wrong, OEM, once the computer version dies, the OEM licenses dies with him, and I'll need to buy another license... Fix?

    Fix

So my best bet would be to go with the full retail version of Windows 7?

Depends on, which is why it is best to get full retail Windows 7, but they are difficult to obtain.

What version of Windows 7 System Builder? I've never heard of this, but I see it at Walmart.com, etc..

System Builder - aka OEM license.

  • How can I install Windows 7 on a desktop Dell running two Partitions XP?

We have a Dell XPS 400 machine running Windows XP Home Edition with two partitions, the ethat on is used, and then an elder who has been corrupted and restored.  Nevertheless, we have tried to install Windows 7 Professional 64 - Bit Version on a CD.  When we tried to install it as usual, it wouldn't read the disc... we tried it in two disk drives at startup and under XP.  A way to solve this problem?

You cannot start the installation to a 64-bit version of Windows 7 from Windows XP, you must boot from the disc and select the partition during the installation where you want to install Windows 7.

After inserting the disc of Windows 8, restart your computer and boot from the DVD.

To learn how to change your BIOS options to boot from the DVD drive, the following tutorial:

    http://notebooks.com/2011/05/05/How-to-load-BIOS-and-change-boot-configuration/

    -----------------------------

When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:

The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

My lap top was installed with windows 7 when buying, but I did have all the disks with it, but now 2 years later I had to have the hard drive replaced but I don't have the disc of windows 7, but I still have my code to use how to get windows 7 new?

You have been given some discs but you have invited to MAKE the RECOVERY PARTITION recovery disks...

You will need the code key on the COA sticker that is on the basis of your machine, or perhaps in the battery compartment.

Also, make a note of the version of Windows 7...

Download the version that matches your COA sticker...

  • I can install Windows 7 Home Premium if I have XP Professional on my computer

I upgraded my Toshiba laptop which had Vista Home Premium, Win 7 Home Premium.  Now, I want to install Win 7 Home Premium on my desktop that currently runs Windows XP Professional.  There will be problems with this Setup?

You don't mention the model Dell and model number. There may be technical specifications to run Windows 7, but it still might not be perfectly for him.

Assuming it's a go, you should be able to perform a clean install of Windows 7 on it with no problems. Have you backed up all your data again? It is always important!

  • I need to re - install Windows Vista, but I do not have adisk

    Hi all.

Had a Sony Vaio with Vista Home Premium. It's worked well, but the other week, he dropped and since then it won't start.

Got a local PC shop to recover files as much as possible, but he said there's a new hard drive, then reinstall windows - £100 thank you very much.

I decided to take a ride and see if I could do it cheaper.

I can source a hard drive, but I never had a Vista CD with the laptop - I have the cost on the bottom of the laptop.

Where can I get a copy of Vista and how do I know if the COA made refers to 32-bit or 64-bit.

    Thank you

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

  • Windows 7 - all the desktop shortcuts have disappeared

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate (Build 7100 evaluation version)

I was using my computer tonight (normal use, nothing happens out of the unusual, without errors or problems etc.). I shut down the system to go for dinner but later when I got to use again, I started it and connected but were none of my icons on my desktop. I got about 26 icons, 4 included shortcuts 'system' to the computer, the user files, network, trash.

When click with the right button on the desktop, the option is there to add a shortcut, navigation and selecting a file results in nothing, no shortcut is visible. When I go to my desktop to users home directory, in the following location: "C:\Users\loggedonusername\Desktop" most of the shortcuts is visible here (including those above, I added that resulted in anything on the desktop) and I can add more within this directory, but they also do not appear. The 'system' ones (computer, user files, network, trash) still show as checked in the menu of desktop customization, unchecking, reticking, change theme and other options does nothing to restore them on my desk.
Icons/shortcuts on the start menu are fine (visible and functional) - just nothing I try seems to show those on my desk. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
PS - I did a full system scan with the AV, nothing, even with malware/spyware scanners software. I also did a scan with Windows SFC - audit was 100%, no violation error / integrity.

Most likely a minor bug with the CR. After execution of the RC for several months I am now facing two minor problems myself with the Explorer shell... (1) the window 'Opens' is enabled preview pane and no matter what I do, it is not off and (2) I had to rebuild my library because they had all kinds of mix upward on the folders they were supposed to point to (my library of music made for my photos, pictures sharp documents downloads pointed to a nonexistent drive, etc.). The good news? The RC is just the RC and is only temporary :-) Jonathan Matthis aka "7test" on MSN QnA
