Aspire One netbook and Linux

I have an Aspire One netbook for Christmas and after Windows 7 browsing around, I found that a lot of people prefer Linux over Windows, and it has tempted me to try Linux instead.  I've always been a Windows user, so I would like to try something new for a change.

I want to know is Linux is compatible with my computer?  The model I have is the D270-1466.  Does anyone have this specific netbook who has installed Linux on it?  My netbook will be mainly used for the internet, music and as a word processor.

Where this information is needed, my netbook has the N2600 (1.6 GHz, 1 MB L2 cache) Atom with 1 GB of DDR3 memory and a 320 HARD drive.

Thank you.

You can install linux on this system, but be forewarned, linux is more complicated to use than windows. If you nevertheless try, the version that I recommend is linux mint 14. This is the latest version of linux mint, it's ubuntu based and more user-friendly. I use it on my acer, I set it up to start the double and windows 7. I do not recommend you dualboot your computer is a little small for that. other questions do not hesitate to pm me.

  • I have an Acer Aspire One Netbook. (No DVD player). From the start on the hard drive, I get a black screen with a blinking cursor.

I have an Acer Aspire One Netbook.  (No DVD player).  From the start on the hard drive, I get a black screen with a blinking cursor.  The cursor does not type.  For me, maybe I need to reinstall windows 7 and startup tasks are corrupt.  I have my product key genuine for the computer, but no way to get to windows.  How to restore windows on a netbook that won't start?

original title: Netbook Windows 7 problem

New computers coming often pre-installed with Windows 7 have what is called a recovery partition. This is used to reinstall an operating system in the case of a system failure. To access it, you need to start when you start your computer by pressing a function key. This can be either F1, F2, F9, F10, F11, F12 key DEL or tab. See the manual that came with your PC for instructions on how to reinstall Windows.

If your recovery partition is not available or damaged, you must contact the manufacturer of your computer, and request that a defined recovery disk you can use to reinstall Windows 7. They could practice a small shipping and handling.

Borrow a 32 bit Genuine Windows 7 friends DVD disc if you know someone who has one.

Make an image of the DVD, you can use a program like ISO Recorder to do.
    http://alexfeinman.com/

If you don't have a Windows 7 DVD to borrow, try to upload a picture:

    32 bit
    http://MSFT-DNL.digitalrivercontent.NET/msvista/pub/X15-65732/X15-65732.ISO

You change the content of the. ISO file and delete the ei.cfg file. After having edited burn it to a blank DVD disc or put it on a USB key. Startup, it will reveal all editions of Windows 7, select the Starter edition. More information in the following article on how to change the file ei.cfg

Utility delete EI.cfg allows you to use a product key
    http://Lifehacker.com/#%215438005/eicfg-removal-utility-lets-you-use-any-product-key-with-your-Windows-7-disc

You can create a bootable USB stick with the following:
    Download Windows 7 USB/DVD tool
    http://store.Microsoft.com/help/ISO-tool

Skip entering your product key Windows 7 and complete the installation.

When you reach the desktop, click Start, right-click on computer

    Click on properties

Scroll down to the Windows Activation

Click the link x days before activation.

Click on the link that says: "show me other ways to activate.

Enter the product key (this is the key of Windows 7 Starter, which would be located on the COA sticker at the bottom of your laptop)

    Click next

Select the Activation of the phone

Click Next when you enter your key page

    Select your country

Click Next, call the number listed

Be sure to explain your situation to the Appeals Officer.

They will give a confirmation ID, enter it

Click next to complete the activation.

Once activation is complete, enjoy yourself, make a backup of your installation of Windows 7 Starter please? You will need to do this an external hard drive, but its worth it. Because if your installation is messed up, all you have to do is to restore from a backup.

    http://www.notebooks.com/2009/10/24/how-to-backup-your-installation-of-Windows-7/

Once the backup is complete, you can do an upgrade to Windows 7 Professional by using the product key that you have, if it's a full key, Windows 7 Professional Anytime Upgrade retail or upgrade license key.

Click Start, type Anytime Upgrade, follow the on-screen Wizard, enter the key of Windows 7 Professional on demand, click Next and restart your computer when you are prompted. Less than 10 minutes, you should be upgraded to Windows 7 Professional and your files and settings retained.

Reactivate the installation, you may also do it by phone:
    Activate Windows 7 manually:
    1. click on start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4

    2. press enter on your keyboard

    3. Select your country.
    4. Select the telephone activation option and brace yourself for a real person.

  • I bought an Aspire One opportunity and need help to choose the right RAM upgrade.

I bought an Aspire One opportunity. On the device, the model number is listed as AO532h-2588. When I enter the S/N and look it up on the Acer website it is listed as AO532h-2Db. I want to move the RAM to 2 GB. Former model, then tried to keep the cheap. I see 200 pin DDR2 667 MHz PC2-5300 SODIMM as given common spec as far as RAM goes. Even through different products of PC. Is this all I get? That the annex-2588 or - 2Db question of difference in the review of correct choice? Thanks for your help!

    I need to stick with 200 pin DDR2 667 MHz PC2 - 5300 SODIMM? Yes

But I can go up to 800 MHz. good. PC2-5300 and SODIMM is critical to search? No, but it will be worse to run (little).

  • what caused the sound to stop working on my acer aspire one netbook?

I don't know what happened, I have no sound, I do not think that the netbook knows there is a map of its installed longer.  I have not removed any material, and only updates have been thanks to the automatic Windows Update program.  Just noticed one day that he was no longer the volume button on the office and could not play any music I had. What should I do to fix this? Literally worked day and no sound at all. Any suggestions?

Despite what certain MVP thinks, this problem occurs on the upgrade or update. Not to everyone, but every now and again.

Simply to re-install the audio drivers that match your Netbook on the Acer site.

  • Aspire One netbook Windows 7

When I turned on my netbook today, I got a black screen and "Missing operating system" in the upper left corner. I used recently to prepare for a trip and the battery is not dead. The power light is on and nothing happens when I press it. When I plug in I hear a beep loud.

Is that what I can do to recover the operating system?

    Thank you

It is also possible that the bios battery may be a little low. This sometimes causes the chip for the bios to lose its settings to the drive hard if the main battery is also weak or weak on the charge. A simple solution is F2 at startup to enter the bios menu, again as you did with the error of missing BONE, and the chip automatically detects and reset its disk setting hard if the hard drive is OK. Leaving when registering, you will start normally.

This might be a more likely scenario a matter of boot from the bios usually continuous order to find the boot order if it does not find the operating system on the first device in the boot order.

This is why it is always advisable to avoid running your battery down too much, because this also will help you avoid the device startup problems caused by a low bios button cell or failed.

  • WINDOWS 7 STARTER/ACER ASPIRE ONE UPDATE HELP

I have a brand new Acer Aspire One Netbook.  It is brand new, so after I did the initial installation for the new netbook, Windows 7 is an update.  When the update is complete, it blocks my netbook.  I get a black screen and a cursor only.  The only way I can fix it is to restore back to the factory and start all over again.  Anyone know why this is happening or that updates 62 is the cause? I basically can't update my OS until it is fixed or know where it is and it can check the updated list.

You say you have 62 updates. The only true way to know what update is the cause of the problem is by installing one at a time.

I was looking especially the optional updates as shows drivers etc. If you are offered drivers, you should consult the manufacturer's website to see if indeed you really need the updated drivers.

  • Built in mic on acer aspire one does not

The microphone on my acer aspire one netbook does not work. I am running windows XP on the netbook and had this problem once before some time back, but can't remember what the person tech told me to uninstall that does the job all of a sudden again. I use also the audio if it helps Realtek HD. I tried several times to update the drivers and reinstall the software from the acer site, it does not work... any suggestions?

    Hello

    Thank you for your message.

I see that you are facing problems with the built-in microphone.

Let's not worry! I'm here to help.

    Quick questions:

    1. what exactly happens when you use the built-in microphone? You receive an error message?

    2. What is the status of the device in Device Manager?

Check out this link to learn more about device manager:

    By using Device Manager

    http://www.Microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/proddocs/en-us/snap_dev_mgr.mspx?mfr=true

Let's try the following and check:

    Method 1:

We will adjust the volume of your microphone and check if it is set as default.

    (a) right click on the "speaker" icon located on the bottom right corner the screen of the taskbar.

    (b) click on sounds, click on the recording tab.

    (c) click Microphone, and then click Properties. (Note to make sure that this work appears under Microphone. If the job does not appear, click on Microphoneand then click set as default.)

    (d) in the Properties of the Microphone dialog box, click the custom tab.

    (e) select or clear the check box Amp Microphone .

    (f) click the levels tab.

    (g) set the slider for the volume to the desired level, and then click OK.

    (h) click on OK to close the sound dialog box.

    Method 2:

I would also say that you update the drivers for your Microphone and looking for the issue.

  • High temperature of Acer Aspire One 725

    Hello

I just got my new Acer Aspire One 725 and it works very well - however, when I checked what temperatures at which it turns, I'm quite concerned.

The inactive temprature is about ~ 60 degrees Celsius, and under load, he got to 87 degrees Celsius until I turned it off.

I tried to disable all unnecessary applications, but which has not helped. The netbook is brand new.

    Ideas appreciated.

    Thank you!

Fusha, I got this from a review on Notebookcheck:

"However, under strong charge of treatment in our stress test, the netbook 11.6-inch become considerably warmer. We measured temperatures of 39.3oC (102.7oF) and 43.6oC (110.5oF) for the top and bottom of the base unit, respectively. The palmrest has never exceeded 32.0oC (89.6oF). Our stress test represents an extreme case, but it is nevertheless clear that the quiet cooling system has negative consequences in terms of heat retention when the netbook is under heavy loads of treatment. »

However, you are much warmer than that. Turn off your computer and trigger a short sound of compressed air in the vent of output. When running, hold your fniger on the exit vent to make sure that the fan actually works. If this does not resolve your problem, a computer store can put a fan nine of your platform.

  • Audio Device notfound & PCI on Aspire One device driver problem

I have 2 Aspire One netbooks, both worked fine a major accident. I installed a new xp with SP3 and all the Acers site download drivers for my netbook by serial number. After that everything seems to work properly, I did an image and cloned the other netbook.

Now when you open a youtube video element ends and I put in place an error on device configuration

When I open my control panel and look at the sounds it says "no Audio device is found.

I think that the problem of audio device or pci question are related and causing youtube video error.

I checked the bios versions tonight and the computer has the latest version of the bios.

Any advice? Thank you... My wife uses her netbook all the time that's why in the need to make it work again. My netbook is sitting most of the time until I travel. I have a 15 "aspire I used to use.
