Attach an iSCSI lun to 5.1 and 5.5 to move virtual machines
I have 1 Server esxi 5.1 I've built a bunch of VM now connected to a 4 TB iSCSI LUN.
I gave recently 2 new 5.5 servers.
Ideally, I would like to connect these 2 servers to the same lun iSCSI is used by the Server 5.1. Then, stop/forget each VM on 5.1, browse the data store on 5.5, add to the inventory and it start up. After all the machines are moved, I can do some changes on the material on the Server 5.1, it blow and install 5.5.
I plead for the trouble, or is a reasonable way to do?

ESXi 4.0 - attached an iSCSI Lun and you want to import a VM to...
OK, I have attached an iSCSI LUN that has a couple of VM on it from a previous generation test. Now, I want to import those virtual machines to my ESXi 4.0 host. Can someone give me step by step on this operation method?
You'll just want to browse the data store, right-click on the VMX files and select Add to the inventory. After you have added, you will want to check the network label to ensure that it exists on the new server. If one of the virtual machines have been using VMdirectpath, generic SCSI devices, etc. you'll want to update those as well.

What is the difference between a virtual machine cloning and v2v conversion to a virtual machine
What is the difference between a virtual machine cloning and v2v conversion to a virtual machine
Cloning process is to duplicate a VM. V2V is deploy vm on vsphere environment to another virtual machine format (example: the workstation, hyper-v).

Need to move virtual machines and power over the other ESXi HA and issues of Configuration of power
Dears
Need to move virtual machines and power on ESXi others using the HA and Power Options
So what are the Options I need activate and deactivate:
Turn on Vsphere HA
Activate the tracking host
Admission control (disabled)
VM Machine Options
VM restart priority (medium)
Response from the host of off the power isolation
VM monitoring (people with disabilities)
Monitoring of (high) sensitivity
Heartbeat of data store (select one of cluster data warehouses taking into account my preferences) of the data store is checked
On each:
Start/stop of the virtual machine is turned off
Please indicate the required Options and on virtual machines, we are not turning on?
Just to be clear, that VMware HA will only restart the VMS if ESXi hosts fails - or surveillance of the VM is turned on which will be monitors VMs will they crash or suspend and restart the virtual machine affected.
and just to be clear, that the response of insulation parameter has nothing to do whther THAT HA will work or not - it does come into play if the ESXi host is isolated of the HA - Cluster
xMotion works only between active ESXi hosts that can communicate with the server vCenter - and if the ESXi host broke down or became isolated and vMotion may not work.
vMotion is automated with DRS that vMotion will a VM who need more resources to an ESXi host with enough reosurces.

Script to stop and remove the list of virtual machines?
Hello
I would use powercli to stop and delete a list of virtual machines to a .csv file. Although not quite clear on how to do it, can someone help out me?
Hello, max08-
Simply use this CSV as a list of names of virtual machine to stop and delete permanently, you can do something like:
Import-Csv remove.csv | %{Stop-VM $_."Server Name" -Confirm:$false | Remove-VM -DeletePermanently -Confirm:$false -RunAsync}
Note, it is non-interactive once you run - he doesn't want to stop the virtual machines or remove the disc, it does just. So, make sure that the .csv file is only virtual computer names you really want to kill.
How does do for you?

Can I force it to use more vMemory and less vCPU in a virtual machine?
Hello guys,.
I have a virtual machine that uses vCPU more than a vMemory, when I select the Task Manager, I noticed that the memory is less than 5% and the cpu is greater than 50% when no application is running when the application run the vcpu go high and the vmem remains low. If there is any way to force it to use more vmemory and less vcpu in a virtual machine? can I use the list of resources for this?
Thank you
No, you can not force the VM to use more memory and less CPU. In fact you can force the VM to use less CPU by limiting the use of the processor, but it will affect performance. The only thing you can do with forcing more use - is to guarantee the physical resources for VM (reserve), but if the virtual machine has no more physical memory or CPU it don't use them.

How to move virtual machines from one host to another without full VI and vMotion?
Hello
could you help me with a question?
I have two installed hosts with ESXi 3.5 U5, which are connected to the shared iSCSI (Openfiler) - VMs storage are installed on the storage disk. My requirement is to have a cheap solution of DR - in case of failure of a host, I need to move and start VM on the host of work. How to achieve without going through VMware Infrastructure 3.5 and vMotion?
I found this article:
http://www.virtualizetips.com/2010/04/how-to-move-a-VM-without-vCenter-or-storage-VMotion/
but RCLI needs Infrastructure of VMware ESXi does not have default CLI So, how to move VMs between hosts (of course I mean "cold" move) without byuing any additonal VMware SW? It is generally possible in my situation?
Thank you.

If the virtual machines are running in shared storage (two guests see the same storage iSCSI or NFS) then it's simple. If a host goes down, then look for the data store on the ESXi host work. Navigate through folders for each virtual machine, right-click on the VMX file and add to the inventory. You will then be able to turn on the virtual machine.
To move a virtual machine from one host to another, as long as both hosts had the same processors, you can pause the VM on the single host, browse and add the virtual machine to the inventory on the second break host and the United Nations.
If the virtual machines are on local storage, but the two hosts are connected to the same shared storage, clone virtual machines on a daily basis from local storage to shared storage. Use something like ghettoVCB http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-8760 make the clone. In the case of a server failure, you will be able to browse the data store, add to the inventory on the shared storage and switch the cloned machine.

VShield Configuration Manager 4.1 (and how to protect a virtual machine?)
I have 2 ESXi hosts currently configured in vCenter 4.1. Before vShield installation Manager, he had 3 vSwitches present on each server; a regular and two distributed.
vSwitch0 - connected to vmnic0 - has management and production of network 1 10.168.90.x
VLAN 10.1 - VMFN connected to vmnic1 on each host - connects to the private physical network 10.1.x.x
VLAN 10.2 - VMFN connected to vmnic2 on each host - connects to the private physical network 10.2.x.x
After you install vShield Manager in a new virtual machine and then to deploy vShield Zones to each ESXi host, develops a new vSwitch
vmservice-vswitch - again group of ports in Virtual Machine vmservice-vshield-pg - not connected to any physical cards
VMS individual vShield-FW created for each host have connected network cards as below
Production network normal 1 - VM Network adapter (attached to vSwitch 0).
Production network normal 2 - VM Network adapter (attached to vSwitch 0).
Adapter 3 - vmservice-vshield-pg network
I tried to connect my VMs to the network vmservice-vshield-pg in order
to protect them and place them behiind the firewall. However, who has
seem to work, and my VM has lost network connectivity.
How to protect a virtual machine that needs to connect to the normal production
Network (on vSwitch0)? Is there any configuration steps I'm missing?
What happens if I want to connect a virtual machine or one of its network cards to one of the 10.1.xx
or 10.2.x.x networks rather than the normal 10.168.90.x network? What
additional steps should I make? The new 4.1 documentation is not
helped at all, and it seems that the old vShield Zones 1.0 docs are not
applies to all.
There is no need to change the virtual computer is connected to the network.
Just activate/install vShield zones on your hosts and add rules to the vSwitch or data center.
The virtual machine will be becomes protected if no error is displayed.

How can I move virtual machines from a local data store for a new iSCSI SAN?
Hello guys,.
Now that we have a new iSCSI SAN market how can I tranfer all the virtual machine to a local data store for a new SAN? Can I stop the VM in the host, and then copy the DataStore files with all the info on the new volume?
Thank you
Pesinet
Alternatively, you can use VMware converter or cold Migration / Storage VMotion if you have the appropriate licenses.

MS 2007 and MS-DOS 6.22 virtual machine screen resolution
Hi all
I installed BACK 6.22 in the virtual machine of MS 2007, everything works perfectly except the screen resolution, VM configures the display on fly and defined as 640 x 200 x 1, I want to 640 x 400 or 720 x 400, but there is no option to set this view. are there registry settings or configuration of the file to make a change.
help me to set the display resolution in MS Virtual Machine 2007 for MS-DOS 6.22
Kind regards

Can I upgrade to Windows 7 and keep Vista in a virtual machine environment or a dual boot?
I use Vista Home Premium and I want to upgrade to windows 7. I love Vista and do not want to abandon it. After the upgrade I can install Vista (same drive, same NR) in a virtual machine in tha same computer.
N ° if this Vista product key has been used to make the upgrade to Windows7, she is technically still in use and can not be installed on any computer (or even the same machine in VM). You must either complete a version of installation of Window7 - and you must change the product key or do a clean install (so it no longer an upgrade that will release the Vista product) or you need a copy of the complete installation of Vista with its own product key.
Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear, but it's like that.
Good luck!

Local and remote to the same virtual machine replication?
Is it possible to configure replication for a virtual machine to replicate locally and remotely?
For example:
ServerA is my server I need to replicate.
I set up replication for this VM ServerA to storage replicated in the same site (local)
I opened the replication again for ServerA VM and I can only see/manage this replication.
I would like to reproduce ServerA VM offisite in a remote cluster of VCenter for DR purposes.
Is this possible? What I am doing wrong?
same source VM cannot be replicated on the two sites with vSphere replication targets.
If you use replication level storage table between the source to the target and the second replication, you use the replication of vSphere, it would be a different story.

Using filters and Get - view to find virtual machines with a specific guest operating system.
I have the following code snippet to find all virtual machines with the updated OS to ' Red Hat Enterprise Linux * "prompt. It does not work. If the filter is left out, I find myself with all virtual machines.
The immediate question is the specs for the game ' Red Hat Enterprise Linux. " Originally from the "Performance Difference between GET - VM and GET-VIEW")
http://www.batchworks.de/performance-difference-between-get-VM-and-get-view/ ).
$ClusterFilter = Get-View -ViewType ClusterComputeResource -Property Name -Filter @{“Name” = $ClusterName } | select -ExpandProperty MoRef
$VirtualMachines = Get-View -ViewType VirtualMachine -Property Config -SearchRoot $ClusterFilter
The biggest problem for me is to understand for Get-View filter. I was capable of a bit of insight to gleen from the URL below, but I think what Miss me is the reference (Microsoft) for what is happening to the right of the equal sign. What is the correct terminology for this type of query expression / where the syntax is 'left' = 'straight' and keywords such as "-match" are not allowed.http://purple-screen.com/?Cat=3
Regular expressions with Windows PowerShell
Right in the filter expression is an RegEx expression, please allow for characters before and after the word Linux.
And the name of the OS is Config.GuestFullName.
I corrected the entries more early as well.
$ClusterName = "^MyCluster$"$ClusterFilter = get-view -ViewType ClusterComputeResource -Property Name -Filter @{"Name" = $ClusterName } | select -ExpandProperty MoRefWrite-Host $ClusterFilter $VirtualMachinesNoFilter = Get-View -ViewType VirtualMachine -Property Name,Config -SearchRoot $ClusterFilter $VirtualMachinesWithFilter = Get-View -ViewType VirtualMachine -Property Name,Config -SearchRoot $ClusterFilter -Filter @{"Config.GuestFullName"=".*Linux.*"}

Script in time of latency list vm e/s and the data store the virtual machine is on
Hello. We have a vsphere 5.0 environment and we live a latency of IO heavy. I'm looking for powercli script will get the latency of i/o for each virtual machine and get the data store name, to what it is now. We will access our storage on optical fiber. I'm trying to get a good overview of the latency of IO in a nice view in a csv file. I found what could be a good basis to https://communities.vmware.com/thread/304827?start=0 & tstart = 0 , but I'm not sure how to get the name of the data store in the table and I think that it is written to the nfs in any case storage. Thanks in advance for any info\advice!
Try the next version, it includes the average latency time read/write for the virtual machine and PAHO are / s average for the virtual machine.
Since the CSV has a row for each data store, the values for the virtual machine are repeated.
I also added the host name
$vmName = "VM*" $stat = "datastore.totalReadLatency.average","datastore.totalWriteLatency.average", "datastore.numberReadAveraged.average","datastore.numberWriteAveraged.average"$entity = Get-VM -Name $vmName$start = (Get-Date).AddHours(-1) $dsTab = @{}Get-Datastore | Where {$_.Type -eq "VMFS"} | %{ $key = $_.ExtensionData.Info.Vmfs.Uuid if(!$dsTab.ContainsKey($key)){ $dsTab.Add($key,$_.Name) } else{ "Datastore $($_.Name) with UUID $key already in hash table" }} Get-Stat -Entity $entity -Stat $stat -Start $start |Group-Object -Property {$_.Entity.Name} | %{ $vmName = $_.Values[0] $VMReadLatency = $_.Group | where {$_.MetricId -eq "datastore.totalReadLatency.average"} | Measure-Object -Property Value -Average | Select -ExpandProperty Average $VMWriteLatency = $_.Group | where {$_.MetricId -eq "datastore.totalWriteLatency.average"} | Measure-Object -Property Value -Average | Select -ExpandProperty Average $VMReadIOPSAverage = $_.Group | where {$_.MetricId -eq "datastore.numberReadAveraged.average"} | Measure-Object -Property Value -Average | Select -ExpandProperty Average $VMWriteIOPSAverage = $_.Group | where {$_.MetricId -eq "datastore.numberWriteAveraged.average"} | Measure-Object -Property Value -Average | Select -ExpandProperty Average $_.Group | Group-Object -Property Instance | %{ New-Object PSObject -Property @{ VM = $vmName Host = $_.Group[0].Entity.Host.Name Datastore = $dsTab[$($_.Values[0])] Start = $start DSReadLatencyAvg = [math]::Round(($_.Group | where {$_.MetricId -eq "datastore.totalReadLatency.average"} | Measure-Object -Property Value -Average | Select -ExpandProperty Average),2) DSWriteLatencyAvg = [math]::Round(($_.Group | where {$_.MetricId -eq "datastore.totalWriteLatency.average"} | Measure-Object -Property Value -Average | Select -ExpandProperty Average),2) VMReadLatencyAvg = [math]::Round($VMReadLatency,2) VMWriteLatencyAvg = [math]::Round($VMWriteLatency,2) VMReadIOPSAvg = [math]::Round($VMReadIOPSAverage,2) VMWriteIOPSAvg = [math]::Round($VMWriteIOPSAverage,2) } }} | Export-Csv c:\report.csv -NoTypeInformation -UseCulture
