attachments have been deleted or cleaned

I got attachments that have been removed or cleaned.  The attachment then appears red and cannot be accessed or transmitted.  It comes from a source that I received the attachments from years and almost every day.  I am running Windows 7.  The attachment is a. doc.  Help!  How can I adjust my settings to allow these attachments?
