Automatically add metadata InDesign PDFs exported

Dear InDesigners

I work for the studio, it has become important to show which person (author) has been working on a document as well as what is the latest version of this specific document.

Sometimes clients send us a PDF (with corrections or changes inside) from a previous version of a document.  We now keep only a only documents InDesign (latest version) and save all changes in there, so there's no way real noted the PDF and InDesign are different versions.

Issues related to the:

1 is it possible for a user so that InDesign can automatically fill the 'author' field when exporting a pdf file?

2. is it possible to have a single element in an exported pdf that clearly indicates, it connects to a specific version of an InDesign document?

Thanks in advance!

MORIS

P.S. I am looking for in XMP, but am completely new in the present, but there may be a solution in there?  Additional information: management now told us, for each change made to a document, an additional document should be saved (addition of _v01 and for the next change save with_v02 and so on) and the previous version kept it as it is. For the studio, this means a lot of extra effort (manual) and project files cluttered with many files with the file name sizes increase. I hope that I can avoid this...

Hey,.
I know this is a very old topic, but did not want to create another and found a solution to the issue.

This script adds the author's name (as he has logged into the system) and a path to the document which can be found on the server/HDD.

So you can play with it:

#targetengine document_copy

(function () {}

If (app.eventListeners.itemByName ('save') .isValid) app.eventListeners.itemByName ("save") .remove (); makes debugging easier and prevents several creations eventListener

var mySaveEventListener = app.eventListeners.add ("afterOpen", economy);

mySaveEventListener.name = "Save";

}) ();

function save() {}

var doc = app.activeDocument;

var md = doc.metadataPreferences;

MD. Author = $.getenv ("user"); MD. Author = "Przemek Rembelski";

md.documentTitle = GetFileNameOnly (doc.name);

MD. Description = app.activeDocument.filePath.fsName;

function GetFileNameOnly (myFileName) {}

var myString = "";

Ditto var = myFileName.lastIndexOf(".");

If (Ditto ==-1) {}

myString = myFileName;

}

else {}

myString = myFileName.substr (0, ditto).

}

return myString;

}

}

Simply place not like all the other scripts in the scripts folder, but in the case of startup script (Adobe InDesign-> Scripts-> startup scripts), you may need your admin pass for it.

  • InDesign PDF export

    I am trying to save InDesign documents in PDF format.

    When I start, I get the error indicated.InDesignError.jpg

    The only solution I found is to change to a printer (local or network, whatever), then cancel to the final screen.

    Then I am able to select again the PDF and it works fine.

    This seems to work ONLY when you work with the booklets.

    Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

    You shouldn't try to print in PDF format, with the exception of the booklet to print. Use file > export > Adobe PDF and change the drop-down list in PDF (Print) if it presents (Interactive) PDF.

    You can only print to PDF if the Virtual PDF printer is actually installed.

  • InDesign PDF export does not display is not the correct colors

    So I exported my indesign document into my new CS6 software, but when I opened them all the colors are completely false. Colors will come up as gray or black, although they were gray or black in the first place.

    I took my file to another computer and exported their CS6 and the file came with all the colors, so I know that would not rather maybe my indesign file, one a software thing?

    I tried to delete the Preferences file, but this solves nothing. If someone wants to be able to recommend anything that would be greatly appreciated.

    What application you use to view the PDF on your computer?  If Mac overview there are questions I recommend Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat.

    BTW, what is your operating system and what setting you use when exporting the file.

  • InDesign pdf export using preset include comment

    Is there a way including the summary of the screening used as comment in the exported pdf file? In Acrobat Distiller, you have an option called 'save adobe pdf inside pdf file settings', there is also such an option available in Indesign?
    As a receiver of files pdf, then you have the option detect what preset is used.

    We have hundreds of PDFs without titles. For purposes of web search, we want to put the file name of each pdf White of the title (in the properties panel). Is there a way to 'batch' to do? Otherwise, it will be a lot of copy and pasteing.

    You can do this easily in a process/batch with a simple JavaScript action:

    Set the title name of the current file

  • Export Indesign PDFs too big size

    Hello forums!

    I got stuck on a new problem. I work in Indesign, when I export to PDF, the pdf export files size is too large. I tried downsample when exporting to PDF, but does not reduce the size (even I choose pdf size smaller, but no luck). I have 33 images links in Indesign.

    Please help me how to do this... I know how to do with downsample, reduce the size in Acrobat, but this option doesn't help me at all.

    Hoping for your good advice...

    Thanking you in advance

    It sounds like you're using pictures eps links in Indesign. If so try to change to a different format as .png, .jpg, etc... and update the extension of links in Indesign PNG or jpg (to do this in Indesign, you must select all the images in criminal link and choose Relink file extension) and export your file and see what happens.

    Thank you

    Hello

    I have problems with the latest version of InDesign update. The pdf export function causes indd crashing. Whether with old or newly created documents.

    the following hotfixes do not work:

    -removing and then reinstalling indd

    -checking of all the fonts on the computer and disable those unused

    -removal of all preferences

    Everyone has the same problems?

    Kind regards

    First of all, make sure that you have removed the preferences correctly, there are two halves for ID see replace your preferences

    Can export you a single page, the totally blank file? If you can, then see Adobe Community: file crashing on exit - print/PDF/other, if not can you make if you start up your Mac with the SHIFT key down to prevent other programs from loading?

  • How to automatically add a background/watermark to a PDF document?

    Hello!

    My name is mike and I'm working on an invoice project. The invoice is created in Microsoft Access and will be printed on the Adobe PDF printer.

    I would like to automatically add a background with graphics details (which is not possible with access in my case) in the PDF when printed on the specific PDF printer.

    Now, I have a "Preset" background and I to each time select it and save changes, that is quite a lot of time when there are multiple invoices.

    I appreciate your help and thank you in advance!

    Mike

    Hi Srv-02,

    You can create a custom action to add a watermark to all the generated PDF files.

    You can also do it through Javascript: https://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/watermarking-a-pdf-with-javascript

  • Quality PDF export from InDesign and Photoshop problems

    Hello.

    I have problems exporting my InDesign files to PDF and keeping the Res. And it's not only images (I understand on the CIO) is the guy over there too.

    I exported as preset high quality printing - this is false. Are there other settings to make sure the PDF export retains the quality of high resolution and clarity?

    At the time of high resolution when I export jpeg or eps but not PDF.

    I also noticed the same problem when I export to PDF from Photoshop.

    I really need to create interactive and high quality print PDF of my InDesign files.

    Please can you advise.

    Thank you

    Karen

    Sounds like it might be that the setting resolution in Acrobat is not corresponding to the screen.

  • Problem: export Indesign pdf does not show pictures

    Hello

    Earlier this week I asked something of the master (Indesign) thanks to your answers that I could quickly finish my book!

    But now another problem occurred: when I export my indesign layout in pdf format, a few jpeg images (first scanned into the computer, put it in indesign) are being shown really good in indesign, but export, only half of the image! I wonder why...

    I downloaded a Wordfile instead of the original pdf file because of size. In the wordfile you can see 3 simple viewed pages 49,54 and 55.

    The photos are hand drawn and scanned, but they do not appear in Indesign, then why (some) not in pdf format? Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Thanks in advance!

    Mirjam

    Scanning and using Word may be part of the problem. When you say 'cut' do you mean to put in the Clipboard, and then paste in InDesign, or do you mean "reframe" like cutting off the unwanted image parts?

    Can you analyze the images and record directly to disk in jpeg or tiff? It is best to use a good image like Photoshop Editor to clean scans, but if this is not available, you can "Place" the images directly in InDesign and do your cropping it.

  • Help! PDF export in InDesign displays images in the form of negatives

    CS4 press quality PDF export. My images are displayed in the PDF file as negative (like a photo negative). They print as negative, too. I tried to re - link and their replacement.

    Thank you!

    I have seen this reported a couple of times, usually when a PDF file is displayed using Preview on Mac. How about some details? What format are the images, too?

  • InDesign PDF output creates an image in grayscale negative...

    I have an InDesign file with an eight-bit grayscale image imported from Photoshop. The image appears normal in Photoshop and normal view in InDesign. However, when I have the output file in PDF (print quality), the image in grayscale format appears in the PDF as a negative image. This happens not all the time, but from time to time. Does anyone have an idea of what is happening and what I could do wrong?

    TIA

    On further investigation, this could be a problem with Preview [Version 5.0.1 (503), OS X 10.6.2].] When the PDF file is displayed in Acrobat, the images appear fine.

    The problem seems to occur with grayscale images in PSD format.

    The image should be resized in InDesign so that requested subsampling as defined in the Compression Panel in the PDF export settings.

    Select the settings of export PDF for printing high quality or print quality.

    In the Panel of Compression, Compression for grayscale Images should be set to the JPEG format (or automatic (JPEG)).
