  If you have this problem permanently, you can try to reinstall the modem and sound card. If the unit is pre-installed with recovery DVDs, it should work fine. As a first step, you can try and remove the sound card and the modem from Device Manager, then restart the device. The two hardware components must be recognized and installed again.

  If there is no success I recommend you backup your data and reinstall the OS using recovery DVDs. On this way the unit will be clean installed and there should not be any problem.
