Backup automated VCS

Is there a script or a process for automatic system backups or the manual process via the web UI the only option?

Thank you

TMS, the backup is very easy. It's the best way to go. Don't always plan you a backup in TMS, but it is easy to make a backup of the configuration of all devices at the same time from a single interface. Very convenient. Typically, telepresence (especially infrastructure) hardware configuration changes usually very often. Not as much as a server, for example, is generally safe for backup systems whenever you made a configuration change. And, as we all know, those who are not always "regular" but are in response to an event or a directive. So that's how the TMS is structured.

If you use not TMS you could theoretically use either a client PCS to log on to the VCS root account and make a copy of the config.db file. But you should allow access for root account on the logon server, and it's maybe a little more risk that it is worth. You can probably also set up a SSH connection (safer) and the capture of text runs the xconfig command in the CLI. But at the point where you set up this that automated programming, you might as well do a manual backup.

Remember that you do not want to save the VCS if something changed that you do not want to keep! Unlike a server, it is not dynamic data stored in the database of real configuration on the system. It's just the settings information.

Hope that helps.

Instead of backup of your iCloud iOS device, you can back up your device via iTunes.

I can manually save to iCloud, but how to re-enable automatic backups to iCloud?

You just need to go to settings > iCloud and scroll down to the backup option and make sure it is turned on. When your device is locked, attached to a power source (not a computer) and attached to Wifi, it will back up once within a period of 24 hours each time that these criteria are met.

  • Backups automated omitting

Hi everyone, long time reader first time poster.

I has just been on my first project Oracle and one of my tasks is to schedule automatic backups for our dev DB environment. I put backups daily using the Oracle 11 g Enterprise Manager, but they did not constantly. Common error I get is:

RMAN-03009: failure of the backup command on the channel oem_disk_backup at 16/10/2012 18:01:33
ORA-19809: limit exceeded for file recovery
ORA-19804: cannot retrieve 5242880 bytes limit 4322230272 disk space
After my research, I understand that this has to do with a child less memory allocation for the flash recovery area, but I tried a flash recovery area and sizing parameters, and I found nothing on the system. Can someone give me pointers on how to implement the flash recovery area, or perhaps a different quick fix that can get my backups to work?
For memory, the test used for backups is not working either, but I put the location of the backups to write to xxxx/oracle/automated_backups/DBNAME/backupset and sets test backups. However, the reality doesn't always when 06:00 rolls around.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Make more space to FRA, either by increasing the size of FRA or removing backups unwanted or by taking some existing content FRA tape backup.

    You can increase FRA by

  • Automated backups

    Hi all
Is it possible to allow backups automated to a peoplesoft database installed on windows-2003(32-bit) environment with oracle 10 g. If so, how? Thank you for giving the link

What type of backup you talking about? PeopleSoft is nothing else than a database. With respect to all of the databases, backup must be taken on one way or another. RMAN backup are obviously one of the best backup solution, but there are others. But there is nothing special because it's a Peoplesoft database.

I'm a little surprised to find no discussion here on the boards (I have done a quick search, but may have missed something).

  • Windows Vista backup on the external drive stopped working

I have a LaCie 750 GB hard drive external (total size 698 GB) who I've been saving my drive C and D to a Dell XPS 410 using Vista Home Premium software.  He contended until the end with a backup automated on-demand for once a week.  He performed the backup 30 times since 11/09/09, but sometimes did so sometimes (shorter range) other than the weekly on-demand.  When I compare the total size with the free space on the external drive and my drives C and D, the amount of used space is respectively 131 GB, 5,11 GB and GB 665,5.  I am not very computer savvy, but if the backup program backs up only what of new each time, why used on my external drive space is so superior to what is still on my C and D drive?  I assumed that the backup software would just copy the previous backup, each time that a new backup or write on the oldest backup, but apparently is not.  So now all I get are messages saying that the backup was not successful because a file was in use or something to that effect.  I'm doing something wrong or do I have to reformat the hard drive external when it is "full" to start the backup of my computer again?

    Hello

Your assumption is correct. Cross check if a new backup is created and saved in the external hard drive. If a new backup is not too write the old backup, the use of the space will be very high.

Two particularly useful automatic backup features are the ability to do a scheduled backup and the ability to save your files.
We recommend that you cross check if backup settings are intact. To do this, try the following steps.
    1. open backup and restore by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking the backup and restore.
    2. click on change settings.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

You get the error message, unplug the external drive and restart the computer. Connect the hard drive and check if you get the error message.

    I hope this helps.

  • VCS update X5.1.1 to X7.2.2

    Hi all

We need upgarde our client VCS-E and VCS - C of X5.1.1 to X7.2.2. Read the Release Notes, I found that I must first be upgraded to X5.2 then X7.2.2. The first update do not require unlocking new keys, but for the second we need new keys for unlocking.  There is also a TMS 12.6 used to supply.

Can you please indicate confirm the steps above X5.1.1 X5.2 to X7.2.2 upgrade? for VCS-E and VCS - C?

I also saw a note comment about covers them authentication.  apparently once upgrade is all areas and subareas (except the default Zone) authentication is set to "treat as authenticated.  As no auth is activate now.  Does this mean I have to turn it off once completed upgarde?

Finally can you tell me how long it takes to do?  As I will need to plan this work out of opening hours.

    Thanks in advance.

    Ahmed

    Hi, Ahmed.

First thing is that I will not go in one fell swoop. You can go in the parts actually.

-If you have any installation of replication between MSDS and stood then you turn off gracefully.

-go ahead and upgrade to x5.2 VCS and take a backup for VCS and VCS-E time.

-go and upgrade to x6.1 then x7.2.2,

consult the Notes version of VCS for more details.

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/docs/Telepresence/infrastructure/VCs/release_note/Cisco_VCS_Release_Note_X7-2-2.PDF

I also suggest you to install the TMS last version 14.3 and switch mode provisioning TMS extension if you previously active provisioning.

Yes, this is true for a minor update like 5.1 to 5.2 key would be same and for major update, you need to separate key release.

come to part of authentication, the areas are defined on ' treat as authenticated "when you upgrade is because the upgrade of VCS is troubled not customer enviornment.

areas have three authentication supported "do not verify the credentials", 'powers of audit', & 'treat as authenticated.

treat as authenticated is the safest option at all than VCS in this case be sure that what cross is an authentic asks and proceed to demand. Other options that might hinder the peformance.

to upgrade a server takes 20 min but I will propose you to take a good break and plan ahead.

  • FRA, Journal multiplexing and request emergency

Oracle 11g R2 under 64-bit Linux.  ASM for data files.   I have several questions regarding the backup process:

For the backup and the multiplexing of newspaper, I intend to use the following method to save the data file, online newspapers, archive redo logs and control files (I deliberately put back on two different file system, i.e., one on the raw disk (file system managed by Oracle) and the other as cooks it filesystem ext3 (System)) :

1, put disc in shape like the raw disk for FRA (for data files, online newspapers, archived redo logs and control files)

Disc 2 to the regular file system format, that is, the ext3 file system (for the multiplexing of online newspapers, archived redo logs and control files).

My understanding is that at the time of execution, the RMAN automatically backups data file, control files, online redo logs and newspapers archived on FRA drive.

    (1) for the online redo logs, I believe that it is saved to the FRA and multiplxed in continuous and simultaneous mode to keep data in sync with it again connects to the CMS, right?

    (2) for the data file, backups RMAN for the FRA at some point.  What might be at this time?  02:00 every day or any time I can specify?

    (3) for remote backup.  I use the OEM to schedule a backup, say, increatmental in week and a full backup on weekends.  Where will the data come from?  The disc of FRA? or the ASM disks?

    Thank you

I think my confusion of the concept of automated backup came here (with the exception of the doc):

For all installations, you must choose the storage option that you want to use for the Oracle database files. If you want to enable backups automated installation, you must also choose the storage option that you want to use for recovery files (the area of fast recovery).

So I thought that if I have activated the automatic backups, Oracle automatically back to the FRA.  Now, I understand that I must manually adjust upward (via OEM/RMAN) in order to achieve the "'automatic backups". "

Another thing is on the online redo log backup.

There is no backup of the recovery online newspapers - that's why it is strongly advised you the multiplex.

We know the redo logs are written in alternating.  Once the online journal are full, they are moved to archive (known as archived redo logs).

The redologs online are not moved anywhere.  They are copied to archive the redo logs.

Now suppose a synario, while online redo logs are loaded into the overall area of the system.

This is the second time that you referenced online redo logs as being in the SGA.  No, they are never in the SGA.  Where are you that?  Log buffers are in the LMS, but this is not the same as the files

and being written on, the system gets crashed.  This online redo log should be stored somewhere,

Yes, they must be stored somewhere.  And somewhere on the disk, exactly to the place specified when the redo log group has been defined.  MEMBER SELECT FROM V$ LOGFILE to see.

If not, when do the recovery lateron, information will be missing.

What information do you think will be absent?  Your transaction is not completed, command does not return to you, until the BONE confirmed to oracle changed data wrote in the redologs online - located on the disk.

For what I understand, it is that while online newspapers are written to execution, at the same time, they are multiplxed to other places, asssume I have already the dest locations, such as the FIU or/u01/oradata/onlinelogs.  This way, when do the lateron of recovery, it will be: data files, control files, archive logs + line newspapers.   But I don't know that I'm right?

No, you are not right.  You're confusing instance recovery (aka crash recovery) with recovery of the media database.  Spend time in the manual of Concepts and use the index to find all references to 'redo '.  Read especially the section on the recovery of body and keep firmly in mind that instance recovery is not the recovery of database.

To identify storage needs for the use of Automatic Storage Management, you must determine the number of devices and the amount of free space on the drive you need. To perform this task:
    1. determine if you want to use Automatic Storage Management for Oracle database files, recovery of files or both.
    Note:
You don't have to use the same storage mechanism for Oracle database and file recovery files. You can use a file system for one type of Automatic Storage Management and file for each other.
If you choose to enable automatic backups and you don't have a system of shared files available, you must choose Automatic Storage Management for the storage of files recovery.
If you plan to activate backups automated installation, then you can Automatic Storage Management as storage of file recovery mechanism by specifying a group of Automatic Storage Management disk for fast recovery area. Depending on how you choose to create a database during installation, you have the following options:
o If you select an installation method that runs Oracle Automatic Storage Management Configuration Wizard in interactive mode, you can decide if you want to use the same disk group Automatic Storage Management for data files and recovery files, or you can choose to use groups of different record for each file type. Ideally, you should create separate Automatic Storage Management disk groups for the data files and recovery files.
The choice is available if you are using Oracle Database Configuration Wizard after the installation to create a database.
o If you select a type of installation that works Automatic Storage Management Assistant de Configuration Oracle silent mode or in answer file mode, then you must use the same disk group Automatic Storage Management for data files and recovery files.
    2. choose the level of redundancy of automatic storage management you want to use for each Automatic Storage Management disk group that you create.
The level of redundancy you choose for the Automatic Storage Management disk group determines how Automatic Storage Management reflects the disk group files and determines the number of disks and the amount of disk space you need, as follows:
    o external redundancy
This option does not Automatic Storage Management reflect the content of the disk group. Oracle recommends that you select this redundancy when the disk group contains devices, such as the RAID devices, which protect their own data or when the database does not require uninterrupted access to data.
    o Normal dismissal
To optimize performance and reliability in a group of disks in normal redundancy, Automatic Storage Management uses two-way mirroring for three-way mirroring for the default control files and data files. In addition, you can choose the features of mirroring for individual files in a disk group. You can also use the bidirectional or not mirror mirrored.
A normal redundancy disk group requires a minimum of two groups of failure (or two drive devices) If you use two-way mirroring. Effective space in a disk of normal redundancy group is half of the sum of the space in all of its features.
For most installations, Oracle recommends to use normal redundancy disk groups.
    o high redundancy
The contents of the disk group is three lanes in reverse by default. To create a disk with high redundancy group, you must specify at least three groups of failure (a minimum of 3 devices).
Although disk groups high redundancy offer a high level of data protection, you must take into account the higher cost of additional storage devices before you decide to use this level of redundancy.
    3. determine the total amount of disk space you need for database files and recovery files.
If an Automatic Storage Management instance is already running on the system, you can use an existing disk group to meet these needs of storage. If necessary, you can add disks to a group of existing installation drive.
Use the following table to determine the minimum number of disks and space of minimum disc required for installation:
The two Types of files the files number Minimum level of redundancy of records data files recovery
    External 1 GB GB 5.4 GB 3.6 1.8
    Normal 2 3.6 GB GB 7.2 10.8 GB
    High 3 5.4 GB GB 10.8 16.2 GB

    4. If necessary, identify the groups of failure for devices of Automatic Storage Management disk group.
If you plan to use a normal or high redundancy disk group, you can further protect the database against hardware failures by combining a set of disk devices in a custom group failure. By default, each unit includes its failure. However, if two drive devices in a group of normal redundancy disks are attached to the same SCSI controller, then the disk group would become unavailable if the controller fails. The controller in this example is a single point of failure.
To avoid failures of this type, you can use two controllers SCSI, each with two discs and define a group of failure for the drives attached to each controller. This configuration would allow the disk group to tolerate the failure of a SCSI controller.
    Note:
If you set custom failure groups, you must specify a normal minimum of two groups of failure for redundancy disk groups and three groups failed for disk groups high redundancy.
    5. If you are sure that a suitable disk group does not exist on the system, then install or identify the drive devices appropriate to add a new disk group. Apply the following guidelines when identifying the appropriate drive devices:
o disc devices must belong to the user who performs the installation of the grid.
o all devices in an Automatic Storage Management disk group must be the same size and have the same performance characteristics.
o do not specify several partitions on a single physical disk as a disk device group. Automatic Storage Management expects that each device group on a separate physical disk drive.
o Oracle does not recommend the use of a logical volume as a device of automatic storage management, because the logical volume is able to hide the physical disk architecture that prevents Automatic Storage Management of I/O optimization across physical devices.

  • VCS restore from backup error

    Hello

I have a problem with system restore from backup on the VCS X7.2.2 SW version. When I want to restore the backup system I get an error

System error: invalid or missing system restore configuration data.

I tried to downgrade VCS Cluster of X.7.2.2 to the SW X7.1 version. I made backup before you demote two peers. Perform later after some tests, I've upgraded VCS to X7.2.2 and wanted to restore the system backup created before the downgrade. But it is not possible, I just get error mentioned above, it is same on both peers. Even when I am creating a new backup and imediatelly try to restore from this file, I get the same error. Backup file looks good, I tried to restore this file to the VM system, and it has been restored correctly.

Do you have an idea what might happen and how to solve this problem?

Hi mark, have you tried to reinstall the respective software of VCS on the failed device and try to restirong the valid backup of the same version of software?

    Hi Justin,

I think that the download you do is via web GUI and after downloading, it brings back to the login window.

Can you confirm if you are able to connect to root after pushing back the file. If so, then try this.

-Connect to root and run the command tsh

-you would be now in guest of admin

-create a temporary account to connect to the web using the commands below

    XConfiguration SystemUnit AdminAccount 3 name:

    Ok

    XConfiguration SystemUnit AdminAccount 3 password:

    Ok

XConfiguration SystemUnit AdminAccount 3 access: ReadWrite

    Ok

You can access web GUI by using this account. However please note that this newly create impossible to connect to the command line.

Now reset the password for the original administrator account. disconnect and connect using the original admin account.

Once logged in you can delete the temporary account that you created.

Note: All this can be done if you have access to the root account.
