Backup plan for multiple servers ESX environment

I'm looking for an automated process that can take pictures of my servers on an hourly basis and directly convert in ESX server.

I love servewrs under Windows and Linux.

Maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way b/c I am familiar with all VMWare products.

But my main goal is to have shots at night and put them in ESX waiting to bring them back in line if necessary in a time of the disaster. But they should be powered off and replaced every day.

Thanks in advance!

The problem is not the tool. VMware Converter is the best tool for conversion, I know, but after hundreds of conversions, we can say that a conversion is not always "click and go".

You CAN plan, but do not expect a result. PV2 process is possible but must be well thought out. Conversion depends more on the physical machine on the tool you are using.

I'm a little unclear on the configuration of multiple servers of the unit for different sites to connect to the cluster of CCM even & I'm after a bit of advice.

Is it just a case of setting up various ports of voicemail, profiles & lists of hunting for servers in separate unit & then arise relevant phones in the correct profile of VM (a bit of as a failover configuration)?

    So, sorry. I misunderstood.

The CCM, you create a set of ports vm for each server in the unit. For this set of ports on ccm vm, you must create the list of hunting; include ports which will answer calls (exclude the ports used by the unit to dialout only (MWI, trap, AMS Notification)

Create a second set of ports on the virtual machine with a different name. Repeat the above steps for the integration of the second unit.

For all the integrations of the unit, you can use the same power MWI.

  • FQDNs for ESX environment when DNS servers are VMS within the ESX environment

    Hello

    I was wondering,

When the implementation of a new infrastructure from scratch, with an ESX cluster from scratch

and when the servers DNS themselves will run inside the cluster,

Then, it is advisable to use IP addresses instead of the domain name COMPLETE for the right ESX environment?

Here's what I've done so far:

    -installed 1 ESX host

    -installed donain controller as VM

    -installed PSC and VCSA

    -created the new cluster

-installed the second ESX host, added to the cluster.

I installed a VM DC as the first thing after the installation of the initial ESX host, I could have started using the domain name COMPLETE for the ESX environment at this time.

    However, I didn't do it.

For installation of the VCSA and when you add ESX hosts to the cluster, I used IP addresses instead of the FQDN names.

It seems stupid and dangerous for me to use domain COMPLETE the ESX hosts themselves, because the domain controller is running in the cluster.

So I used IP addresses only to ensure the ESX HA cluster and the characteristics of heartbeat stay ok if something were to happen to the DNS server.

However, the VCSA installation and when you add hosts to the cluster,.

the MISTLETOE gave me a warning, indicating that it is preferable to provide a FULL domain instead of an IP address name.

I am of the opinion that if you have no physical DNS servers, it is not a good idea.

My opinion is that when your nameservers inside the ESX cluster itself and you do not have 2 redundant external DNS servers, so it is not wise to use the FQDN for your ESX hosts, PSC and VCSA setup.

In my view, using the property intellectual property is much safer in this case.

I was wondering what is your angle on it.

Do you see the same way, or have different opinions?

    Hi smetter,.

It is advisable to have a working DNS for vSphere environment however the use of DNS for things like vSphere HA have been removed in more recent versions of the product. Refer to the section of the guidelines of the general network of this document for more details: https://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/techpaper/vmw-vsphere-high-availability.pdf

With this in mind I wouldn't be worried about use of FULL domain for the addition of services like the ESX host, etc.. Failure where HA would be restarting the virtual computer, there is no dependency on DNS so it will continue to work as expected and, subject to the availability of resources the virtual machine starts on another host.

According to your vSphere licenses, you may also like to consider the implementation of anti-affinity DRS VM to keep your DNS Appart servers and on different hosts. This can prevent your servers DNS are declining when the failure of a host. You must have Enterprise edition or later for this.

    Kind regards.

  • Why I have two different execution plans for the same query on two different servers

    Hello everyone.

I need your help to solve the problem quickly.

In a nutshell, we have two servers that have the same version of Oracle RDBMS (11.2.0.4 EE). One of them for purposes of development and another is a production one.

We have therefore two different execution plans for the same query executed on both servers. The only case of execution is OK and another is too slow.

So I have to slow down the work of query using the same scheme to explain that young.

  • R1: tcAPIException: duplicate the element of planning for a task that is not multiple.

    Hello

I am struggling with the next task:

I have to ensure that an account exists for a given resource. I have available with la.tcUserOperationsIntf.provisionObject ().

I created a createUser task to create the account.

The task code checks to see if it is already matching account.

If no account does exist, is created in a disabled state, and the State of the object of the IOM account is set to "Disabled" through return code of task mapping.

If it exists, it is "related" to the account of the IOM.

The problem is that if the existing account is enabled, I have to change account either IOM "Enabled" status.

To implement this (thank you, Kevin Pinski https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2564011)) I created an additional task 'Switch' which is triggered by a special task return code. This task is always successful, and his only side effect is the status of being 'Enabled '.

  • Is it possible to use GPFS or another build is a SAN storage shared for multiple ESX and ESXi hosts?

We have a license GPFS and SAN storage. I am trying to create a storage shared for multiple ESX and ESXi hosts share existing virtual machines. We tried once NFS, it of a little slow and consume too much bandwidth LAN.

Anyone can help answer? Thank you very much in advance!

It depends on your storage space.

You must connect all hosts to the same San, then follow the configuration guide of ESXi and specific documentation for your storage space (for sharing LUNS on multiple hosts).

Since you're already on 10.2, you can identify the actual execution plan by checking in V$ SESSION SQL_ID and SQL_CHILD_NUMBER column. This can be used to identify the plan in V$ SQL_PLAN (columns SQL_ID and CHILD_NUMBER) and in 10g, you can use the convenient DBMS_XPLAN. Function DISPLAY_CURSOR for the information of the real plan using these two parameters.

  • LAN-Free backup of snapshots VMDK of ESX Cluster

My intention is to perform a backup outside shots VMDK of ESX Cluster to VCB Proxy Server LAN.

I have a scenario where I have 3 ESX servers with 3 x 800 GB LUNS in a storage group separate on a CX 310 SAN box. The Ids., (HLUs) host these 3 LUN LUN are 0, 1, and 2. All these three LUNS is a VMFS volume each on the ESX Cluster and all three LUNS are visible to all the ESX servers.

I have a physical host that boot from SAN (the same box of CX 310 SAN) and this host will be designated as the VCB Proxy Server.

Now, I'm going to add a 1 TB LUN to the storage group as the LUN 4 ESX servers and the Id., (HLU) host LUNS for this one will be 3. This logic unit number will be added as the 4th volume of the cluster ESX VMFS. It will also show all three ESX servers in the Cluster.

I'll create a Windows VM 'VM2K3' on ESX Server 1, and I intend to add the volume (1 TB) entire VMFS 4th as "D:\". "drive"VM2K3 ". I'll share this disc "D:\". "and it will be mapped as drive"T:\ ". "on the VCB Proxy Server. This disk 'T:\ '. "will be the target for the storage of the VMDK to snapshot backups, in a compressed format. I use VizionCore vRanger software connection to this effect on the server VCB Proxy itself.

    Question 1.

This scenario will provide the backup off LAN of VMDK instant?

    Question 2.

In the case of a failure full 1 ESX Server, VMotion will be or a manual movement of the virtual from Windows "VM2K3" machine would affect the LAN-Freee of instant VMDK backup? If so, how will this affect and what will be the impact?

    Question 3.

The "C:\". "Logic of the VCB Proxy unit number will be a 30 GB SATA LUN and the total size of the RAM on the VCB Proxy Server is 8 GB. The ability to drive "C:\". "30 GB will be sufficient to make faster given the fact that I have about 45 VMs at this point in time?

Any help or suggestion or two in this case would be very useful.

    Hello

A physical machine cannot directly access a VMDK in a VMFS. There may directly access LUN, that LUN could then accessible by a VM with RDM or virtual RDM mode. But why would you do it is really beyond me.

The VCB Proxy running W2K3 and you present all your VMFS volumes (make sure that you don't have a letter assignment drive automatically enabled when you make this presentation). See http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_35/esx_3/r35/vi3_35_25_vm_backup.pdf for assistance with this.

VCB proxy then read this VMFS and copy data from it to your T:\ drive (MON).

Remember that no two hosts can access the same logical unit number unless you use a clustered file system.

Hello... Is it possible to install the VCB proxy on multiple servers of the art on the same ESX server host computer?

It is possible to use several VCB servers in your environment (we have 3), but they reference the virtual center to discover the virtual machine rather than directly to each host...

You can use several servers VCB to connect on the same host if you carefully scripted specific vcbMounter commands to complete your backups...

There are not many examples on the web on how to do it and with which application.

I suppose the obvious choice to be PowerCLI, but don't have any idea how to write the script.

Can anyone provide information on how to go about starting this script, or if there is a record of the tool that will convert mouse movements in vSphere PowerCLI commands. My organization will soon implement VSX 4 company on a new server. I'm looking for best practices or recommendations for the RAID level and the partition configurations.

    Server type: IBM X 3650MZ

Network: 8 NETWORK interface cards (2 host connections and 4 for connections to other networks) which means that 2 of them will be inactive at the moment.

    Memory: 72 GB RAM

    Storage: 300 GB 10 000 RPM x 12 readers.

All links to the documentation would be very appreciated.

That's why any ESX host order comes with possible disks to install ESX on the smaller AIRLOCK, and only two disks in RAID 1 configuration. It burst as I've mentioned offers more protection against a drive failure and wipes potential partitions during the upgrade of the ESX host. For a production environment, I would not risk of data or host, lost by placing it as a single, large, volume.

Use the rest of the space on the Board of mirroring (where lived ESX) to your ISO library.

I can also plan for the host depending on whether you buy to have just two, smaller than possible, SAS disks in it. In the meantime, get a few storage attached to the network and start migration to it. See if you can get the funds following years or more earlier, budget so that you can build right forward.
