backup with the retention policy to recovery of N days window

Hello

I did command to create an incremental backup of database with the configuration:

run

{

Configure retention policy to recovery of 14 days window;

backup incremental level 1 cumulative

tag daily_incr_14_days

database

more archivelog delete all input;

}

All parameters are set to their default values, and backups of data goes to FRA. I've got catalog recovery connected and all the views RC_ at my disposal.

(1) is it possible to know which window of recovery has been used for any command in the rman backup or query view RC_ or local database (control file information)?

(2) if I use other settings of window of recovery with command configures which would overlap or report rman commands do?

Thanks for the reply - in other words, this window of recovery should be used mainly for maintenance purposes (overlap, remove obsolete, report need backup etc.) and he was not associated with the actual with backup items as retention period "keep until the" safeguard clause... command database (this information are saved with the backup as I could verify according to rc_backup_set of the recovery catalog)?

backup retention policy

A policy defined by the user to determine how long the backups and archived logs must be kept for the media recovery. You can define a retention policy in terms of redundancy backup or a recovery window.

RMAN keeps backups of data files that are required to meet the current retention policy, and all logs archived redo necessary to a complete recovery of data files.

Recovery window

A recovery window is a type of RMAN backup retention policy, in which the ADMINISTRATOR specifies a period of time and RMAN ensures the retention of backups and Archives redo logs required for recovery to point-in-time at any time during the recovery window.

The interval always ends at the present time and is extended in time for the number of days specified by the user. For example, if the retention policy is set for a window of recovery of seven days and the current time is 11:00 Tuesday

RMAN maintains the necessary backups to recover point-in-time at 11:00 the previous Tuesday.

  • Problems with the retention policy that removes a Cumulative incremental backup

    Hello

    I have following two scripts:

    1 RMAN script runs the weekend and made a full backup of level 0.

    2 RMAN script works on a daily basis and a level 1 Cumulative backup.

    at the end of each script I delete noprompt obsolete redundancy 1; (I don't need a single copy of local disk)

    My problem is that it seems that remove obsolete handles only level 0 (full) backups.

    for example, my goal is:

    Saturday = > level 0 + delete obsolete (level 0 + all the incremental)

    Sunday = > obsolete level 1 cumulative + delete

    Monday = > level 1 cumulative + Delete obsolete (backup Sunday)

    etc...

    What happens in reality is rather that remove obsolete Monday, completely ignores Sunday 1 cumulative level.

    and he keeps all the up to the next level 0 backup

    its actually covered in the Oracle Documentation:

    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E11882_01/backup.112/e10642/rcmconfb.htm#BRADV8400

    but it's just not make sense.

    in order to have redundancy of 1 copy I only need to level 0 + unique Level 1 cumulative backup.

    I don't have level 0 + all level 1 cumulative backups between full backups.

    so my question is there a way to make the retention policy to keep only the last level 1 cumulative?

    It's true window of 1 day recovery ignores several backups of cumulativ made the same day as being obsolete. Regular retention strategies rman probably cannot provide what you want. You can manually identify the backupset and delete them or change of cumulativ backups to incremental backups.

    That would save the space of several cumulative backups and and would work even for several backups on the same day. Of course with the disadvantage that you need all of the incremental backups and your recovery time may be longer

  • Basic question on redundancy as the retention policy enforcement

    DB version: 11 g

    I intend to implement a differential incremental backup of my database. My strategy is

    Tuesday-->     Level 1 backup
    Wednesday-->     Level 1 backup
    Thursday-->     Level 1 backup

    Set on the Recovery window retention policy
    ==========================

    I understand that recovery window retention policy: If I set up
    'CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 7 DAYS;'
    This means only these backups that are older than 7 days will be reported as obsolete when executing the command "remove obsolete.

    Retention set on redundancy policy
    =============================

    But I'm a little confused about the retention set to redundancy policy:

    Does
    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 3;
    say that you keep 3 copies of backups on different locations on disk? How does this fit with my above mentioned incremental backup strategy?

    REDUNDANCY is 'Keep' copies

    The BACKUP is 'Create' copies of

    Copies which exceed the requirement of REDUNDANCY become OBSOLETE.

  • Images of base and the retention policy

    How often should a kernel take images of basic officer? For some reason, I was under the impression that base image that is happening, then EACH snapshot after it is progressive, and they all get just rolled in the other when the time comes. I have machines here with 3 or 4 images of base in recent months. Some seem to match with my retention policy, and others do not.

    Someone has an idea?

    You answer @itcaswg post:
    @itcaswg said "why it would trigger a full after a 'dirty '?" I think it would just dump the partial and take another differential from the beginning.

    So when your taking a backup create us a log, which is replaced each snap, in the System Volume information file, this is where we consider what has changed since the last backup and what channel we are linking to the heart. If the officer was in the middle of a write to this file and a crash occurs the log file might be damaged. This would make it impossible for the officer to determine what has changed. So, I set off a baseline plan to repair the chain.

    @itcaswg said «...» I guess that number three is not a problem unless the disk is full. right? »

    Yes and no. Permissions or GP can play in this trigger. Also when you configure you differential interval and place all the volumes on the same time, all volume lock in that time as a job. The partition of the RPS is relatively small and can fill. This can trigger the basis for the entire machine as all volumes are connected by the work of the interval. Often RPS do not even have a drive assigned to often most watched his letter but he too has a SVI folder and is clipped like any other drive.

    In addition, food for thought, your retention applies only at increments up to your most recent base line. Anything before that is ignored and must be cleaned manually.

  • With the help of product recovery CD when the hard drive replaced

    Hi all

    It seems that my hard drive is defective, so I bought a replacement, installed in the laptop OK and tried to use the Toshiba product recovery disc. The laptop started with the disc OK and recovery of product starting screen appeared and I started the process. The process starts, but then crashes and no matter how much time wait nothing further happens.

    I put the defective hard drive, back to and started on the recovery disk and it started and the process started OK.

    The recovery disc can not be used on a replacement hard drive? Surely, this is possible, as hard drives do fail and must be replaced.

    Can someone tell me how to fix it please?

    Thanks in advance!

    In General, you can use recovery image after replacing HARD drive. I did the same thing on my machine.
    It was: is the new HARD drive recognized properly? After Exchange of HDD enter BIOS and check this.
    Before you begin the recovery image installation if please try to set the BIOS to the default settings and try reinstalling the recovery image.

  • Disable AD account with the access policy

    Hi all

    How can I disable AD account with the access policy (or create AD account in the off state)

    Kind regards
    Vladimir

    1. when a user is created in the HR system, must create a new IOM account and a new account AD must or must not (according to HR data) be created in AD in the off State

    Can be reached by the access policy but for Disbaled State, you must call turn off the task of the user on the success of Usertask to create in the definition of user AD process

    2. when a user is marked as rejected in the HR system, the AD account if exist, must be deactivated and moved to a special place in the AD tree.

    It can be reached through a custom code JNDI.
    You can move the user to some different containers.
    You can search in OOTB Conector something similar to the user to get around (some adapter)

    3. the same rules will be applied if the IOM account is created or marked as "Rejected" manually by the administrator of the IOM

    Same Setup will work... No need for additional configuration.

  • What is the difference between a backup of the plant and a recovery disk?

    For me a simple question, so I hope a simple answer.

    When I got to my laptop that I created a USB using DBR recovery. It is a little more than 8 GB in size and is appointed SYSRECOVERY.

    At that time there I didn't create a backup of the plant.

    Having recently been read on things related to the re-establishment of a system in case of disk failure hard etc, I saw that Dell has said you must create USB recovery media and a backup of the plant. So, I got a new USB and today created a backup of the plant.

    Looking at it, it is also called SYSRECOVERY and both have exactly the same list of files and folders and have almost the same size.

    So just what is the difference between these 2 options (if any)?

    Or do I now have 2 USBs that will do exactly the same work to restore my laptop computer provided that the factory?

    Case there is no difference, why Dell offer both (and recommend you create both)?

    Thank you

    Technically speaking a recovery media and backup of the plant are the same. But according to the post that you saw at Dell, recovery media is a backup of backup from the factory with the files and applications that you added later. Therefore, to be on the safe side, Dell recommends to create a backup of files and software that have been added later (or is not part of the default configuration).

    The factory backup contains all drivers and software according to the configuration of the PC, and that were pre-installed on your computer.

    Generally, Windows failure, you can use factory backup media to restore the PC without affecting your personal files and software. In the event of hard disk failure, where the hard drive is replaced, recovery media will be useful to restore Windows as well your files and applications.

  • RMAN backup with the smallest size of backup

    Oralce 11g 2 on Redhat 5. Disk space is our the tighter resource, and we want an incremental backup with Level0 Sunday and level 1 every day of the week and on Saturdays. I'm using the comamnds to do the job
    --Sunday
    backup incremental level 0 tag 'level_0' database plus archivelog;
    --Other days
    backup incremental level 1 database plus archivelog delete all input;
    I don't think that it is the best practice or produce smaller backup files.

    What are you comments and opinions. Thank you

    RMAN backup except for the backup copy will only backup blocks used, which is quite efficient. Backup incremental level 1 are set by default and the smallest of the incremental backup.

    However, you can enable compression reduce the size of the backupset (Oracle 10 g and more). You can also enable the block track the changes in the database only once, so that backup incremental level 1 do not need to analyze the data files for the changes - this allows saving a lot of time and IO.

    SQL > ALTER DATABASE ENABLE BLOCK CHANGE TRACKING;

    RMAN > run {sql 'alter system switch logfile' ;}}
    RMAN > BACKUP AS BACKUPSET INCREMENTAL LEVEL 0 COMPRESSED DATABASE MORE ARCHIVELOG DELETE ALL ENTRIES;
    RMAN > ACE COMPRESSED BACKUPSET INCREMENTAL LEVEL 1 DATA BACKUP MORE ARCHIVELOG;

    I would prefer not to delete the archivelogs after each incremental backup of level 1 in order to make a point in time recovery without the need to restore the archivelogs.

    And don't forget to:
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;

    I hope this helps.

  • I need to restore the with the Toshiba Satellite P200 recovery disk

    I also need to restore my P200 with the Toshiba CD. There is a note on the Pocket: insert the CD, power off, turn on with press F12, select the drive and follow the explanations. I wonder if it is possible to reformat just the 2nd disc.

    I can confirm what sascha wrote. I have Satellite A300 with 2 hard drives and via recovery DVD you can simply install OS on the first HARD disk. The second HDD is not visible for a second and Toshiba software engineers have designed to work with the first HARD disk only.

  • Grid Control 11g of the problems with the basic policy of RAC database

    We have a group of three nodes 11 GR 2 (rac1, rac2, rac3) and a policy based RAC database 11 GR 2 (ORCL) with cardinality 2 (ORCL_1 and ORCL_2) on this group. Used to monitor the Control 11g Grid infrastructure. Founded political RAC databases are linked to the pools of the server and not to the cluster nodes, therefore, restart the cluster database instances can run on both on 3 nodes in the cluster. For example, if ORCL_1 is running ORCL_2 and rac1 rac2 Sir after a full reboot ORCL_1 and ORCL_2 can be run on rac2 and rac3 respectively. Binding of the pool with two special nodes will be as if we use database RAC database administrator and not the policy based.

    Now the problem is that Grid Control registers the services in database with the node that is running the instance due to which, once the instances are started on a different node, she complained authorities are declining. We don't have to then reconfigure database instances and say Grid Control that they are now on another node. However, this removes the history of AWR for these instances.

    Is there a solution to this problem?

    Kind regards

    Kashif.

    Hi koko,.

    to work around this problem (I think that there is no "automatic" support in the current version of EM for switching hosts databases), you can create an ACTION_SCRIPT for your database cluster resource that is running the relocate_targets command emcli (so an emcli should be placed on all nodes of your and recorded with Super Administrator privileges). So every time you start your database resource, this script command / move the target to the current host without losing any historical information.

    Best regards
    Robert

    Edit: You can find an example of the command emcli in this document written by Rob Zoeteweij: http://oemgc.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/manage-node-failover-in-an-active-passive-setup-using-oracle-enterprise-manager-grid-control1.pdf
    In this scenario is an active/passive environment, but the command itself appies to your situation, too.

    The political function should look like this:

    FUNCTION policy_function (object_schema IN VARCHAR2, object_name VARCHAR2)
            RETURN VARCHAR2

    You don't have to use the arguments (I do not usually), but they have to be there. The system will call your function with two arguments of VARCHAR2, so he must accept two arguments of VARCHAR2.
