Bad drive OS/WINDOWS (not C:\) letter...

but I want to get right (C:\) without having to reinstall the entire system, or systematic or functional damage.

In my case, drive C is SystemDRV and D Windosw7_OS.

What I tried was change the register and the register of the trade all the .dll files after I changed the drive letters, but obviously, this is not as simple as I thought. The operating system cannot load almost all vital parts, user profiles, the interface explore etc...

Any pro guy? Tech staff there?

Thank you all in advance!

I know what you mean friends, but I want to solve this problem WITHOUT REINSTALLING THE ENTIRE SYSTEM, as it says above, am clear honey?

How drive letters did get switched around?

This sounds like your situation

    I get BSOD after Windows Logo at startup. Said Startup Repair: bad driver, AutoFailover.

    Two weeks ago, that I was getting the same BSOD after logo, but only with the bad driver. I not did something to fix it (or Startup Repair), it's just dissapeard after a few days. Also, the last day that I was getting BSOD, the night when I started my pc, it remained 2 minutes at Intel Boot Agent initialization and also 30 seconds to the black screen that follows (before the windows logo). When this situation occurs I get more BSOD. I tried to restart my pc but I stayed another 2 minutes to the Intel Boot Agent initialization. This problem has been fixed in the next morning, when I started my PC, even once, I don't know how, I did nothing. I remember that it is sometimes used to stay 2 minutes Intel Boot Agent, even when I was on Windows Vista, and it also sets automatically.
    I upgraded my BIOS a few weeks before getting the BSOD, but I don't think that's the problem. In addition, there was no new driver installed before getting the BSOD, drivers have been installed after the first BSOD (even if the event viewer and the reliability monitor do not mention the first BSOD, only those who have followed the installation of the driver I know there's a BSOD before, I'm sure.)

  • Windows Vista does not start... Bad driver says Startup Repair

    I got a HP Pavillion laptop which was running Windows Vista.  Unfortunately the motherboard met tragic disappearance and so I decided to just get a new laptop (A Toshiba Satellite L505D).  I had the Geek Squad to do a backup of the HP hard drive, but when I went to save the Toshiba before the upgrade to Windows 7, I discovered the system files on the external hard drive, they gave me has been altered.  I thought I had everything comes from the backup I needed, then (stupidly without checking double) I've reformatted this drive to use for the new backup, eliminating the old backup.  I then realized that I had never recovered the video files I had stored there; However, all these files are still on the old hard drive, which was not damaged.  I decided to swap hard drives (two SATA disks) in the Toshiba and restart it with the hard disk of the old HP.  Windows wouldn't start, and when I launched the Startup Repair he identified the problem as a bad driver.  What should I do now?

    You cannot boot from the hard drive HP in a Toshiba computer, because it has not installed the motherboard of Toshiba drivers and does not recognize Toshiba motherboard he found.

    Try these methods for data recovery:

    1. slave of your hard drive in another computer and read/save your data out there.

    2. put your Hard drive in a USB hard drive case, plug it into another computer and read/save from there.

    3 Alternatively, use Knoppix Live CD to recover data:

    http://www.Knopper.NET/Knoppix/index-en.html

    Download/save the file Knoppix Live CD ISO above.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
    Download the Vista software from the link above.
    After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.
    Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.
    Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1st in the boot order.
    Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.
    When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.
    Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.
    Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).
    Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.
    See you soon.
  • Install Windows 8 on external drive Thunderbolt - Windows could not prepare the computer to begin the next phase of installation
    Hi all
    I'm at my wit's end trying to install windows 8. Let me start at the beginning: I used to have windows running on my Mac Pro ssd internal 8.1, installed via bootcamp. It worked well for a while, and then refused to start, gives me a blue screen KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE. Despite some advice from lonely T, I was unable to fix and ended up wiping the partition and relocation, again via bootcamp. Yet once again, it worked for a few months, then the same problem. I made this one last time, and it only lasted 2 days... So I gave bootcamp.
    I think that the hybrid MBR partition scheme that implements bootcamp is the culprit, but I don't really have evidence to substantiate this claim. In any case, I tried to install windows in EFI mode. (If I understand correctly, the hybrid MBR is set up to allow windows to install in legacy BIOS mode, but that windows 8 may now install efi, which supports my Mac Pro mode.) My Mac is the new Mac Pro (end of 2013, trash in shape), and I can say short UEFI 2.0 (I have the latest efi update from apple installed).
    The method I'm trying:
    1. create a new partition in HFS + on my external drive using disk utility. The drive has now it's efi partition and partition empty 750Go I want to install windows a 1.25 TB storage partition that I use with my mac. It has a GPT. I formatted HFS + and no FAT, because I think that disk utility creates the same hybrid-MBR as training camp every time a FAT partition is created.
    2. use gdisk to confirm that the disc does not have a hybrid-MBR. (sudo/dev/disk1 gdisk watch MBR: protection)
    3 restart my mac and hold the possibility to put in place to bring up the boot efi menu.
    4. Select the EFI_Boot DVD icon (that's the windows 8 install dvd that I have in my superdrive USB drive)
    5. go in the menus of the disk selection screen installation and delete the partition in HFS +, I created to install windows on (the format option is not available)
    6. now select "Unallocated space" on the good drive and click Next.
    The problem:
    Partitioning seems to go ok (there is no feedback on this basis, but it proceeds to the next screen, and all new partitions expected are there if I check diskutil list later). He said it is "copy of windows files", but then stops with the error "Windows has no prepare the computer to start the next phase of the installation." To install Windows, restart the installation. "If I restart, I can start the same process all over again and get the same result.
    The Question:
    How I get this error and get windows install?
    Extra pieces:
    • The first time it happened I assumed it was the new sip / thing "without roots" in El Capitan, causing problems, then I disabled, but I still get the same error.
    • After reviewing the diskutil list output after one of installs it without success, I found that a labeled EFI partition has been created after my storage partition (the original efi partition was still there in the upper part of the disc).
    • I have windows 8.1 installed now bootcamp on my internal ssd. It was planned to use it and winToUSB to put windows on my crush, but I found that it only works with usb2. I do not have installed could cause problems with the installation on another disk.
    • Before say you I can't run windows on an external, yes you can, and many people have. I read windows sees thunderbolt internal disks.
    • I read a few other posts on this and other sites on this problem, but could not find a pertitnant solution to my situation. I found one that suggested to remove the efi on my disk partition, but that seemed like a bad idea, so I didn't try.
    • I write this at 1 in the morning after a day spent in front of the computer trying to get this working, so please excuse typos typing or other. I am pleased to provide you with any pertinant information helping you will help me.
    • Thank you!
    The other thing I tried also almost succeeded:
    Although I prefer to get the method above works, because it seems the most promising, is something else, I've tried that I thought worth mentioning. If you offer advice pertaining to this method rather than the above, I would appreciate it if you could explicitly declare that at the top of your answer. Thank you.
    I tried to install windows on the physical disk using vmware and virtual box. The instrutctions I followed for this can be found here: http://www.andrewsavory.com/blog/2011/2156 (the only thing different, it's because it's on an external drive, I created the Fat 32 partition manually using disk utility). The first time (using vmware) installation seems to go off without a hitch, but I couldn't get my computer to see the windows partition as bootable with the boot efi menu hold-option regular refined or with system preferences-> startup disk. I think that I was using always inadvertently a hybrid-MBR at this stage. I tried to repeat this new beginning with the first two steps above to avoid the hybrid-MBR. But now when I try to create the virtual machine based on the gross vmdk, it starts to copy the files then says not sufficient permissions and fails. I don't know if it's a permission with the disk or the hard problem. I tried chmod 777 and chown $USER of the vmdk disk (/ dev/disk1s3) does not.
    Wow, that was a long post...
    1. when a second drive is detected by the Windows Setup program, he wants to create his own brand of EFI (104 MB) and not to mess with the Mac EFI (200 MB). You can force it to use the EFI to the Mac using Diskpart commands.
    2 instead of HFS/FAT32, create a piece of 750 GB free space and it should only get a new MSR/MSD, without the part of EFI.
    3. on your VM method, the link you have is quite old. You have a MP 2013, with references to the 2010 Mac alumni and is a bit too archaic to be useful. http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/install-a-Windows-7-partition-on-Mac-OSX-Wit hout-optical-car-or - usb.1836959 / #post... seems to work for many and can be useful for a test. It also uses Winclone.
    4. you can also try http://bleeptobleep.blogspot.com/2013/02/mac-install-windows-7-or-8-on-external. html .
  • How to extend my C drive volume in Windows 7, so that the disc I want to merge in drive C is not adjacent to the C drive, please help
    How to extend my C drive volume in Windows 7, so that the disc I want to merge in drive C is not adjacent to the C drive, please help
    Jackin salvation,
    Welcome to the Microsoft Answers community.
    When resizing of volumes in Windows7, you must be aware of the following criteria:
    • Only you have the possibility to reduce or enlarge NTFS or RAW (unformatted) partition using Windows 7 tools.
    • When you shrink a partition, files not movable as a page file or a shadow storage area are not resettled. This is why you cannot reduce the size of the Windows beyond volume where these types of files. If you need to reduce the volume, you will need to remove, move or delete the page file or the shadow first storage area, and then reduce the volume and then add the page file or shadow storage on the disk area.
    • If enough bad clusters are found on the disk partition will not shrink.
    • You must be logged on to an administrator account in order to resize Windows Volumes in windows 7.
    Windows 7 Partitions or Volumes of shrinkage
    This section shows must shrink a Windows volume or partition. To do this, we must open the Windows 7 disk management tool. The following steps will guide you in this process.
    1. Click the button on the Start Menu in the bottom left of your desktop , and then click the Control Panel menu option.
    2. When Control Panel opens, click on system and Maintenance category.
    3. When opens in system and Maintenance category, scroll down and click on Administrative Tools.
    4. Double-click the computer management icon. The console of the computer management will now open. Down, you will see a category called storage and under this category will be the disk management icon, as shown below.
    5. Click on the disk management icon, and you will now be in the disk management utility as shown in the figure below. This utility you can see all the partitions on your computer and format, delete, create, develop or resize them. For this tutorial, I'm going to resize the partition E: of 16 GB so that when completed, there is a 8 GB partition and provides another 8 GB of free space I can use for other purposes.
    6. To shrink the partition, just click with the right button on the partition that you want to work with and select reduce . In this example, I click right on the E: partition and in the menu that appears, I select shrink.
    7. A screen similar to the one below appears. This screen indicates the size of the current partition you, how you can reduce it to a field where you can enter a specific amount to reduce, and then how big partition will be once it shrinks. By windows 7 default enters the maximum amount that you can reduce the volume, but if you want to change this amount, do so by entering the amount in MB in the enter the amount of space to shrink in MB: field. When you are satisfied with how windows 7 will shrink the partition, click the minimize button.
    8. Once windows 7 is complete decreases the volume, you will be in the disk management screen, but now the partition size will be the size you requested as shown below.
    Now that you have reduced the size of your volume of Windows, you can close the computer management console.
    You have now finished reducing your score and you have the extra space available for use as required.
    Windows 7 Partitions or Volumes extension
    This section shows that you must extend a Windows volume. To do this, we must open the tool of disk management where we can resize our volumes. The following steps will guide you in this process.
    1. Click the button on the Start Menu in the bottom left of your desktop, and then click the Control Panel menu option.
    2. When Control Panel opens, click on system and Maintenance category.
    3. When opens in system and Maintenance category, scroll down and click on Administrative Tools.
    4. Double-click the computer management icon. The computer management console will now open. Down, you will see a category called storage and under this category will be the disk management icon, as shown below.
    5. Click on the disk management icon, and you will now be in the disk management utility as shown in the figure below. This utility you can see all the partitions on your computer and format, delete, create, develop or resize them. For this tutorial, I'll extend the E: partition so that it uses the rest of the available space on the disc 1.
    6. To extend the partition, he just click right-click on the partition that you want to work with, and then select the Extend option. In this example, I click right on the E: partition and in the menu that appears, select Extend.
    7. A wizard appears as shown below. Press the Next button to continue.
    8. A new screen, shown below, is displayed allowing you to select the free space available on your local hard disks that you can use to extend the space of the selected partition. It is important to note that Windows 7 allows you to extend a volume using free space on the same drive as well as the other disks. I strongly suggest that you do not extend a volume on a disk with free space of the other. It is because if one of the disks has a hardware failure, then all data on this volume will be removed. Rather just to use the free space on a drive that contains the volume you extend
      .
      As discussed in step 5, for this tutorial we are going to extend my 8 GB partition (drive E :) to the total size of disk 1 using all the available space. As disk 1 is only available free space on my computer, windows 7 automatically select as shown in the image above and use the maximum amount available to extend the partition. If there were other drives with free space that they have shown during the selection available . If you want to extend the volume to a lower amount you can change in the Select the amount of space in MB: field. In the contrary case, press us the button Next .
    9. You will be now be presented with a confirmation screen. If you are sure you want to extend the volume, press the Finish button. Otherwise, press the back button to make changes or the Cancel button to cancel this operation.
    10. Once Windows 7 completed to extend the volume, you will be on the screen disk management, where you can see the amount that you have extended with the new size. An example of this is shown below.
    At this point, you can close the Management window of the computer that your task is completed.
    Hope this information is useful.
    Let me know if it worked.
    Thank you, and in what concerns:
    I connected a new 500G portable hard drive to a front USB port on my HP PC (with an AMD Phenom X 4 image processor), under Windows Vista Home Premium. Windows presented a pop saying that the driver has been installed, then he said: USB device installed. The software of the device has been installed successfully and is ready for use.
    However when I looked for the drive in Windows Explorer it wasn't there. I read in this forum, and using the information that I realized that I accessed the computer on my PC management - up it only shows C: drive and D: drive image factory, but below that, when disk 0 is assigned to the C: and D: drives it shows disk 1, unknown, uninitialized. Assuming that it is the car in question, I tried to initialize the disk, but then the error FUNCTION INCORRECTE.
    I don't know what to do at this point. If the player has not been assigned a letter, there seems to be no way to transfer or partition.
    A new drive must be formatted. That is why it is sjowing up as disc 1, unknown, uninitialized.
  • OfficeJet 7210 printing preferences does not work with the driver for Windows 8
    I have successfully installed the driver of Windows 8 (64 bit) full of features.  Printer copy, scan, fax and print from the computer.  However, I'm no longer able to print in grayscale, select a print quality (fast draft, project, etc.) and choose the paper type on the printer menu shortcuts in the printing preferences.
    In the box "what do I want?" and choose fast/economical printing, the selections above will appear in the list of options, but when you go to select an option in the drop-down lists that can empty al.
    You probably work with a more basic driver in Windows 8, and this is why you are not able to use these features. I would check to see if there is another driver that will allow you to use the. Here's a message written by a colleague who deals with how you can do this:
    Let me know how it goes and I'll get right back with you!
  • error message saying "TESV.exe - bad Image. d3dx9_42.dll not is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.
    original title: Skyrim .dll error
    When I press play on the Skyrim Launcher button, nothing happens. I tried to open the folder and run the TESV.exe and got an error message saying "TESV.exe - bad Image. d3dx9_42.dll not is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try to install the program by using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor"I run Windows 7 Ultimate, and I've updated all my drivers and directX and uninstalled and reinstalled Skyrim repeatedly. I replaced the DLL in question and also organize sfc/scannow. Nothing seems to work, I tried all of the solutions I found online, nothing helps.
    I really want to start playing this game... huge fan of Elder Scrolls...
    Hi MattHamlyn,
    1. did you do with the last changes made to your computer before this show?
    2 you are logged as administrator?
    3 you are installing the game online or using a CD/DVD?
    I suggest you to follow the steps below and check.
    Method 1:
    I guess that your operating system is Windows 7 64 bit.
    1. click on the Start button.
    2. Select computers
    3. click on your C: drive
    4 program Files (x 86)
    5 steam
    6 Steamapps
    7 common
    8 Skyrim
    9 TESV
    TESV is the game itself.
    Method 2: put the computer to boot and check if you can play the game:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135
    Note: after a repair, be sure to set the computer to start as usual as mentioned in step 7 in the above article.
    I hope this helps.
    Thank you.
  • oxC004F061. After replacing a failed hard drive, windows 7 do not allow me to activate. I had replaced a previous hard drive with window xp verson with this same program windows 7.
    Two years ago, that a virus killed my hard drive of windows xp.  Dell has replaced the hard drive as it was under warranty, but spoke to me by getting the upgrade to windows 7.  It was installed after that the new hard drive was put in and worked great until 3 weeks ago, when the hard drive is dead again. replaced the hard drive and put it in the installation discs but do not know where I was wrong.  It will not let me activate windows and gives me the code 0 x C004F061.  I'm short on time to enable any suggestions on what to do.
  • Windows 7 detect my external hard drive, but does not allow me to access it, or see it
    I have a Toshiba 1 TB external hard drive (I threw the box so I don't know what are the specs, but the things written on the back of the room are: ITE HDD E145163 D33033 KCC-REM-DNT-Canv63 N723 Z218 v63600-C 1 TB DC + 5V 1 0 04/12). I remember he said it was compatible on Windows 7, but this doesn't seem to be the case at the moment.
    I plugged my hd; Windows knows it is there and installed the software for it. But I can't save anything in it or access to the workstation. I looked for solutions to this, but nothing has worked. I tried to change the name of the driver [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Change-add-or-remove-a-drive-letter] by but apparently I can't because my hard drive is a primary partition. How can I use my hard drive with Windows 7 on my HP 2009f computer? : c.
    [Btw, I properly formatted the hard drive on my Macbook Pro]
    Formatting a Mac o/s will be not visible/usable under a win operating system, you would need to delate all partitions, if it is visible and the format in victory
    You cannot change the drive letter of the system drive
    2 uninstalling drivers AMD and Cattalyst driver. Restart the computer and update of HP SAssistent, it is a friend more important your computer.
    3. If you had already done so, download and run your computer support page chipset drivers - http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4158&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=5422962#N222
  • PX1393E drive external HARD not visible in windows Explorer
    Hello world
    I just bought an external DRIVE for my Toshiba laptop no disc PX1393E. I know that its old and he still has windows 2000 SP4 on it.
    Now my problem is that my laptop does not recognize the external HARD drive. The Add New Hardware Wizard works fine, but I don't see the new drive in windows Explorer.
    I looked in the FAQ of the guide. Here, I tried to go into the options of storage since rigt - click my computer in the management options. But I still don't see the drive.
    Now, I wanted to see if I could find some update of the driver or something, but man you can't find on this site.
    Anyone?
    TIA
    The drive cannot be partitioned or formatted.
    Reach:
    Start-> Control Panel-> administration-> computer management tools-> Storage-> disk management
    Initialize the disc and create a partition then format it in NTFS
