  My computer has a very bad performance. • Very bad performance on a virtual machine

  Hi all

  I've got 2 x 5.1.0 ESXi hosts (733933) in my environment connected to a starwind iSCSI data store that has SSD in a RAID array. It's very fast because we never had performance issues.

  The data in question store contains several virtual machines. Virtual machines are as quick as you wait, except for one. It is very slow, and I can't nail why (IOMeter test below).

  I tried these techniques to understand:

  1. Run IOmeter several moments of the day to ensure that it is not a process on the VM problem asking the questions
  2. Length of queue disk supervised the VM problem to ensure that it is not too busy
  3. Provided all the parameters of virtual equipment of the VM (type of controller disk, CPU, RAM) problem
  4. Installed a new VM on this data store to eliminate the data store as a cause of the performance issue
  5. Checked the allocation of shares of the VM problem to make sure it is not pushed to the side under heavy load

  I don't see anything that can cause this problem, someone at - it ideas?

  The performance test:

  Just a thought that we had something like that a long time ago... I was sure it was the storage that it ended up being the memory and CPU on the virtual machine limit.  You would see really bad performance on the wise vm storage, but the real problem was the vm limit causing storage I/O queue time.   I would look in the settings of the virtual machine and look at reservation / limit.   Do not forget that even a reservation does not override the limit.

  If you do not have a limit attempt to set a reserve for all CPU / memory and then test again.   If it fails again there is something really wrong with the I/O stack on your Windows OS virtual machine.  (You should also try to vmotion it in another data store)

  If you know how to use ESXTOP you can quickly find information on your problem using the m, c and v keys.

  I'm a really bad, unusable performance with any client VMware. I've tried combinations of:

  VMware Player and VMware 10.

  XP, Win 7, Linux Mint operating systems, among others.

  All comments VM to run incredibly slow. Some of the questions include:

  Movement of the mouse very slow/lag

  Takes less than 60 seconds for firefox, or any program to open.

  When a program is open, the shift makes it just unusable.

  I tried to install the computer virtual invited to different readers, including an SSD.

  The host operating system uses Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit, and for the programs that are running, it may be a fresh restart with only the usual windows services.

  With respect to the way in which the guest virtual computer is configured, I tried varying amounts of ram and cpu. But as it is currently is:

  Memory 2 GB

  2 processors 'virtualization = automatic engine.

  (SCSI) hard drive 60 GB

  NIC NAT

  Any other information needed please let me know, I'd really like to get this working. I got it on my old machine, a processor AMD/MB. When I built this Intel machine he developed suddenly problems...

  I can raise objections to factual and subjective reasons:

  • Fact: the article is poorly written and has apparently not been checked properly.  It looks like a copy - paste of a conversation between an engineer and a customer support.

  • Fact: the recommendations provided in the article are not necessarily relevant to the issue

  • Notice: the recommendations provided are vague and questionable at best

  • Notice: this type of article does more harm than good, because it encourages the "best practices" that are not necessarily recognized as such in the official documentation of the product and potentially based on engineering of intuitions rather than fact.

  • Opinion: I think it's clear now, but I don't share a lot of the advice given in the article.

• Bad Performance of host with workstation 6.5 OS

  We evaluate the virtual machine software and that you have installed VMware Workstation on our computer to test against Parallels and Virtual PC.  We already have Virtual PC on a computer that is different, but the same with good results with the exception of access to video drivers and other issues.

  We installed Vmware, installed XP32 as the guest operating system and a severe slowdown on the host operating system.  It is at the point of use.  However, we do not see that all resources are used, there is time to RAM and processor available and disk access seems fine.  Someone give me a clue as why performance is so bad.  Computer form below

  This limitation has nothing to do with these limitations, you mentioned. It is a remnant of older versions of workstation where the max RAM amount for a guest was 1600 MB.

  I spent successfully to Win XP using recory DVD with no poblems.

  I use different types of professional software of CAD-CALCULATION that uses OpenGL.
  The performance of one of them are highly degraded by comparing to my previous laptop which had an old ATI graphics card non-professional.

  The software uses hardware acceleration for the overlay planes.
  I tried to update the graphics drivers, but nothing has changed.

  Could you suggest me something?

  Unfortunately I can't offer any solution for you, but according to http://ati.amd.com/products/mobilityradeonhd3600/specs.html page OpenGL 2.0 is one of the characteristics listed.

  Only thing I can suggest is to contact the software manufacturer and talk with their support. Toshiba laptop to the manufacturer offer hardware and OS pre-installed but can also provide support for thousands of different applications available on the market. Usually software development must test own product on different hardware platforms and find the solution to make own attractive product for customers.
