balanced traffic share

Could someone tell me what the command

The link below is very explicit.

http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/Tech/tk365/technologies_tech_note09186a008009437d.shtml

I used the controls only in laboratories.

Balanced traffic share is the default setting. So this means, that with a touch of "variance" command that you will have a share of traffic.

Share of traffic min is a configurable parameter and is useful in situations where you have a DS3 and a T1 connecting two routers (for example). You want the links to use for load balancing, but the preferred path is the DS3.

I think that "balanced traffic sharing" has been designed as an equivalent command to disable 'sharing of traffic minutes.

shares of balanced traffic = no traffic-share min

  • The order of failover and load balancing

    Hello

I have the following scenario. An ESXi with 4 Gbps vmnic. The questions are:

    (1) if I have a group of ports configured for 'Route based on the original virtual Port code' in the policy of balancing load, and for the same port group I the option button 'Override switch failover command"checked, where I set up 3 of the active adapters vmnic, as well as the other vmic remaining as unused adapter, the ESXi uses the policy that I have configured (in this case 'Route based on the original port code') between the three vmnic load balancing marked as active? Or he uses them in the order that they appear in the section active cards?

    (2) Suppossed, I configured the four physical switch ports in an etherchannel group to use 'Route based on the IP hash' load balancing policy. In this situation, then I configured for a certain group of port to only used two active adapters and two others as unused? In this case, ESXi should balance the load using the method hash IP but only in two active adapters? Or it is a misconfigiuration and I should not configure my nic teaming in this way?

    (3) the official setup guide says "NOTICE on IP requires the physical switch be configured with etherchannel. For all other options, etherchannel must be disabled. ». How can I I configured my virtual network, if I have a few groups of political ports based on the hash of the IP to use load balancing and another uses 'Route based on the original port code. This is the case when I for example have two management ports using the same vSwitch with four vmnic (where they are configured as an Etherchannel in the physical switch). I would port one or several groups for virtual machines that use the IP of the hash method of balancing the load and vmkernel ports por management uses only a single adapter active with no back and as "based on the source port ID" load balancing as best practices said.

Now, the four vmnic is the same for all traffic. The physical switch ports must be configured in an etherchannel group because certain groups of ports will use the method of IP hash, but others are not. The configuration guide I said SHOULD NOT use etherchannel if I won't use the hash IP method, but I'LL use it, but only in groups of one or more ports.

Maybe I do not share the same vmnic from this situation.

Finally, it's a philosophical question. What is the difference between 'The route based on the source port ID' and the 'road based on the source MAC Hash' load balancing policy? What is the purpose of the second? It is assumed that if I had two different MAC address in a virtual machine, it would be because I had two different virtual cards inside the virtual machine, which would be connected to two different port ID in the vSwitch, I can use the first strategy (based on the original port code). In other words, which would be the case where I had the traffic entering the same vSwitch but port ID with different source MAC address, so I should chose the method to distinguish the Source MAC address load balancing traffic?

    Thank you.

    Guido.

    (1) as long as you override vmnic only and don't change the policy for this group of ports, he uses the policy configured at level vSwitch and use the selected interface 3 with this policy

    (2) it should work, I don't think it's a problem for the switch receive packets on a subset of the aggregation. I do not think that Etherchannel is supported (IIRC, it is a Cisco proprietary protocol, VMware only supports LACP passive, which corresponds to the Port channel world Cisco.) Trouble me if I'm wrong!)

    (3) I think that's all right, as I have explained in 2), there is no special negotiations with the consolidation of VMware, the important thing only I know is to configure the port on the side of the switch channel if you decide to use the IP hash (that will lead to important questions)

    4) (self labeled) I think it may differ in some cases individuals, as when the operating system use the same MAC address for both NICs (aggregation in-vm) or if you advertise several MAC address for the same network card (ESX in a VM for example would make for its VM). Such cases differently affect this setting.

That is the right question, and I'm curious to know if someone wants to develop on it!

  • Cisco RV016 failover & load balance Multi WAN question

    Hello

I think the RV016 is the camera to buy for our small building, but I'm a bit confused in the manual if my scheduled configuration is possible, so if you could confirm if this is possible I would appreciate it.

We have a leased line as our main connection (lets call him WAN1). If this connection is not available, I don't want to load balance to any other network WAN.

We have 2 netgear 4G devices identical (we'll call WAN 2 and 3 WAN). If the leased line is not available, I would like to then load balance these two WAN connections.

Then I have a final connection, WAN4 as a slow adsl line. I don't know right now if I want to load balance this WAN1 or just have it as a backup to WAN2 and WAN3 failure (WAN2 and WAN3 have a 20 GB data limit each on their monthly allowance of the contract, if the leased line is down for more than a couple of days, what is unfortunately already happened) (then we reached this limit and then there is charged with extremely expensive data or just use the only ADSL)

In any case, it's normal, I want to balance the load. I want to only load balance WAN3 and WAN2 WAN1 fails.

Anyone know if this is possible? If not, is there any other similar device which would be appropriate?

    Thank you

    Ben

    Hi Bencarroll01,

With RV016 you can get what you need.

RV016 supports up to 7 WAN connection, and there are two mode of operation

    • Swing smart (Auto Mode): This option allows you to balance traffic between all interfaces increase the available bandwidth. The router balance traffic between the weighted alternating interfaces.
    • Group of IP (by users): Select this option for trafficking group on each WAN interface by levels of priority or classes of service (CoS). With this feature, you can ensure the bandwidth and a more high priority for specified services and users. All traffic that is not added to the IP group uses Intelligent balancing mode. To specify the services and users, click modify for the WAN interface and then add the entries of binding protocol for each service, IP address or IP address range.

For our case, we must have RV016 configured with IP Group(By User), so in this case, we can configure binding protocol that we can specify and force all traffic from any IP address of the local network outside through WAN1. and any other WAN connection they always towards the TOP but not the traffic passing through them

Now if WAN1 is down, immediately the rule to redirect traffic WAN 1 will be disabled and all traffic will pass through the rest of the WAN connection

After that if the WAN1 is once again the binding protocol rule will be active again and again all the traffic will be done by WAN 1

Please let me know if you have any other questions

  • IOS NXOS VPC PORT channel

    Hello

I have a pair of Nexus 5 K in an area of the VPC and few 2960's as members of the VPC, with a port to the domain channel.

    Topology is:

    5K 1 and 5 K 2 in the area of the VPC

    VPC 5 1 K and 5 K 2 to 2960

    2960 a gi0/1 and gi0/2 in 1 port channel

    Gi0/1 5 k 1, gi0/2 5 k 2

I know what I'm going to ask can be completely against the purpose of the VPC, but I'm looking for a way to promote gi0/1 for traffic, rather than balancing on gi0/1 and gi0/2. The reaon for this is I want to take advantage of the absence of loop that provides mail ORDER, but would also like to have a link primary and secondary, as the majority of traffic should in fact go through 5K 1, rather than 5 K 2.

    Any suggestion is welcome.

    Thanks in advance

    Anthony

    Hi Anthony,.

The Cisco NX - OS software load balance traffic across all operational interfaces in a portchannel by chopping the addresses in a numeric value that selects one of the links in the channel. Port channels provides default load balancing. It uses IP addresses, MAC addresses or layer port numbers 4 to select the port-channel-balancing link of the load. The port-channel load balancing uses the source or destination or port addresses, or both the source and ports or destination addresses.

You can configure the mode of load balancing to be applied to all port channels that are configured on all of the device, or the specified modules. Each module configuration takes precedence over the configuration of load balancing for the entire device. You can configure a single mode of load balancing for the whole device, a different mode for specified

modules and another mode of the other specified modules. You can not configure the port-channel load balancing method.

You can configure the type of balancing algorithm used. You can choose the balancing algorithm that determines which Member port to select for the evacuation traffic by looking at the fields of the frame.

Note: The mode of load balancing by default for layer 3 interfaces is the IP source and destination address, and the mode of the load balancing by default for non - IP interfaces is the source MAC address and destination.

The configuration mode, you can try different method of load-balancing,

    port-channel - the balance of the load {dest-ip-port | dest-ip-port-vlan |}

    destination-ip-vlan. destination-mac | destination-port | source-dest-ip-port | source-dest-ip-port-vlan. source-dest-ip-vlan. source-dest-mac | source-dest-port | Source-ip-port | Source-ip-port-vlan. Source-ip-vlan. source-mac | source-port} [number of the module]

To sum up: I can't tell which port would be chosen, it depends purely on image type you send with the combination method of load balancing.

After you change you know also from the command which link takes the traffic.

    NEXUS2-SPAN # show the port-channel - the balance of the charge-transfer port-channel 71 src - ip 1.1.1.1 route dst - ip 2.2.2.2 VLANs 51 2 interface module

Module 2: Missing params will be substituted by 0.

Load balancing algorithm: src - dst ip-l4port

RBH: port id out 0xb0: Ethernet8/8

We can try also to rework the same NLB on the 2960 also. Is it purely depends on the algorithm of load balancing. Below is for 2960 balancing tweaking,

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/docs/switches/LAN/catalyst2960/software/release/12.2_53_se/configuration/guide/swethchl.html

Even after doing this that I wouldn't say 100 percent, he would choose a link.

    I hope this helps!

    Thank you

    Richard.

  • Bridges 2 1552 for high availability using

We have 4 1552 AP we would like for installation in a point-to-point environment. Currently, they are light but would make us independent for this scenario, unless there is a feature in the controller that would achieve what it takes I don't know.

We would like to implement in pairs on each side with the 1st goal consisting of high-availability so if one goes down there is still connectivity. Our second objective would be to use the two AP for higher bandwidth.

I thought I'd try to configure a port channel, but as I read it, you can't do it, but I would like to know if I'm wrong. I saw where someone else tried to do the same thing in the forums and there were some responses, but the links do not work for me.

Just look at showing up in the best possible direction. It seems that routing should take care of what we need, but would like to see if there are any other avenues.

    Thanks in advance.

The best thing you can do is to configure each P2P connection as a trunk and use priority of vlan spanning tree in order to balance traffic between the two links.  You can't really bundle, because the bridge that sends the traffic expected for the traffic to come back through it.  It's the best way to use the two bridges, this is how it has been done in the past and how its still quite well done.

  • M81KR map B440 M1

According to my knowledge, there are two cards of M81KR in M1 B440 who both have 2x10G connection to the chassis in the background. I have 2 quick questions on cards M81KR B440 M1 blade.

1 are - these two cards work as active / standby?  Or a 10G connection is active and the other 10G connecyion's watch on each card M81KR?
    2. in addition, please could you tell balancing traffic on the strategy of 6140XP blade and failover of the UCS for these two cards?

    Thank you very much!

  • Cluster WLS_FORMS

    Hello

I use weblogic 10.3.6 and 11.1.2 forms I create a cluster with 2 server for forms oracle (server1 to machine 1to machine 2 server2 ), the problem is when I call the url http://server1:9001/forms/frmservlet? config = xx always logged on Server 1 (never by Server 2)?

What I have to do work as load balance cluster?

    Concerning

You need to do 2 things:

    1. you must install something to balance traffic between server1:9001 and server2:9001. Some options are, Director of Traffic Oracle (in an environment exalogic), Oracle HTTP Server (OHS) or Apache + Plugin WLS. Check the cookie used by forms, to persist, I think that his JSESSIONID.

2 - after that the load balancer is good, you should go on WebLogic Console, clustering, select your cluster, and go to the HTTP tab. In this tab, you must set your host frontend as your host for load balancing and http as your http port port to swing.

Now, go to your application as: http://load-balancer:port / and you should be good. Refer to the documentation of the product for more details.

  • LBT loadbalacing via a converged network adapter

We use Dell with an installed ANC blades. The ANC manages Ethernet traffic both CF and presents a vmhba and vmnic to the ESX host. On the DVS we use LBT (route physical NIC load accordingly). I know that LBT is based on the use of an uplink. When the use on the uplink reached 75%, LBT will balance traffic to the second uplink. But does also FC traffic counts? I'm curious to know how the LBT in this case?

LBT leans on Ethernet traffic crossing the dvUplink with the 75% threshold is based on the port speed. LBT looks not to the traffic of vmhba CF. It's your CNA either divide the 10 GB in single port speeds (for example 6 GB for Ethernet and 4 GB for FC / FCoE) or to provide some sort of control flow without loss to FC. In both cases, LBT focuses only on the saturation of dvUplink Ethernet, not the saturation of CNA.

  • vSphere Standard switch - how does the failover

    Hello

I have a theory for you question VMware guru.  I have four ports on my ESXi host and I want to assure you that in the case of a link failure, network traffic gets moved to another link.  Currently, I have all four adapters marked as Active to balance traffic between the four ports to load.  My question is, what is the point of having an auxiliary card?  In the case of a failure of the link, is it a switchport not active failover to another active port?  If an active port can switch to another active port, why would you want never to define an interface in sleep mode, rather than use it for balancing traffic?

Thanks for any idea in advance!

    -ToTheCloud

OK, so the auxiliary card would be useful if I only had 3 ports and two switches vSphere Standard.  At this time, when a port to one of these switches would fail, I'll be able to have the one of these switches switch to auxiliary card (since you cannot have an active adapter on both switches at the same time)?

Correct - if you had two vSwitches, each with a NIC card Assistant could only be assigned to a vSwitch both.

Also, just to clarify, if I do not have all four active cards on the same vSwitch, if a link goes down, traffic would failover to another active adapter if I didn't have a correct map specified, auxiliary?

    Yes.

  • Switch Standard virtual Teaming and Failover/Failback w / button batteries

    Hello

Small question about Standard virtual switches and nic teaming/failover.

I have 4 phy cards network connected to a single vSS; two are defined as active adapters (vnic A & B) and two are defined as standby adpaters (vnic C & D). The first two active adapters are connected to a primary switch stack using an etherchannel cross-stack and the two other standby adapters are connected to a driving switch stand-by also using a cross-stack etherchannel. The primary and standby switch stacks are not connected to each other (in a stacking context) but are connected to the same physical network.

Here's my question - if A nic fails, nic C or D will become active. Let's just for arguments sake adapeter C become active. So B and C card are now involved (for vmware). When C becomes active, the network see B and C adapter as a team even if they are spanning two batteries of different switch - this will create duplicate the network MACs? If Yes, what is the proper way to shift several cross-stack etherchannel teams?

The physical switch batteries are Cisco Catalyst 3750 s.

    Thank you!

    Steve

... why bother you even create etherchannels...

There may be special use cases where you have a high traffic going out to a lot of targets with different IP addresses. Personally I never used EtherChannel in ESX (i) environment to date.

With the default strategy, VMware uses a turnstile mechanism, where virtual NETWORK card a VM is assigned to a physical connection when the virtual machine is running. It is usually sufficient to balance traffic. ESXi 4.1 and the appropriate license (required vDS), VMware has introduced a new policy of load after grouping , which can also interesting to look at.

And, when using an etherchannel, why is-IP-HASH the technique only balancing?

  • NFS on some NETWORK cards?

I'm new to the game NFS on ESXi.  I have always used the Fibre Channel.

I have some cards NIC 10GbE specifically for NFS.  When I add the storage how does know what network interface cards to use?  I don't really see where attribute you this to?

Yes just fine on the single TCP session, for this reason, you can get a flow rate higher by using several NAS data stores. With your celerra ns device, I guess you have (at least) two data Mover and they are more likey in an active/passive configuration?  If you have several NFS exports and your vSwitch will have 2 uplink adapters AND if your switch supports you can use EtherChannel and IP-Hash to load balance traffic across two uplink adapters, but you need to be careful about the assigned IP addresses, if the HAH is incorrect you can't get traffic to spread. I have attached a txt file I use in class with an example of calculation of the IP hash: I found somewhere on the communities some time ago but keep for reference. Also a valuable document for vSphere and Celerra. http://www.EMC.com/collateral/software/technical-documentation/h5536-VMware-ESX-Srvr-using-EMC-Celerra-Stor-sys-WP.PDF glance at page 292. • RV325 balancing work does not correctly

    Hello

I have a Cisco RV325 (firmware 1.2.1.13) connected to our network, with which we intend to do a load balancing across DSL lines 2 by 2 different ISP (both are only 2 Mbps, so we need bandwidth).

I run a PC #1 download. WAN1 is full to about 230 KiB/s. Any traffic to WAN2. No acceleration thanks to the load balancing, not even with multi-threads downloads.

Now, I start a download from another PC (#2). At least, I expected the download through WAN2 (in fact, when I checked the public IP of PC #2, there the WAN2 public IP). On the contrary, the PC #1 download slows down. And 2 downloads cross WAN1 to a maximum speed of 230 KiB/s, i.e. the speed that we get with 1 single line DSL.

In the statistics of the system, I see bandwidth downstream to WAN1 being used at 95% and only 1 or 2% for WAN2, while upstream bandwidth share really WAN1 and WAN2 when I start a download.

All of our traffic through an OpenVPN. I tried to stop the VPN, without success.

Is there something escapes me in the setup of the RV325 to get a true load balancing?

    Thanks for your help.
