• Rollover to IE6 CSS problem

  I'm filling a site for my dentist and having some difficulties to tame IE6 into submission.  Specifically, I have a problem with the bearings in the navigation menu.  When a page is selected, the selected button should turn yellow. However, instead of display the button, IE6 shows the contact button (and then more buttons in the navigation bar, according to the chosen button width).  There is no Javascript code used for bearings.  This is the CSS right.  The bearings of menu works perfectly in all browsers EXCEPT IE6.  It seems that IE6 has problems with the element of 'focus'...?  You can see the problem here (don't forget to display the URL in IE6 - only IE6 is having this problem).

  I have hover and focus defined within the main stylesheet, which you can see here.  The menu bar has 3 levels, and you can see the image PNG here. In the HTML page, you will find:

  Update is applied to the class of the selected page (visited).

  What causes IE6 to have problems with bearings of menu?  How to solve this?  I have a separate stylesheet for IE6, so I can easily add more hacks to it.

  It is not too difficult.  Once you cut through the images that you will find with the same basic CSS with image configuration in slices for the basic one: link, a: active, States.  Then, for one: steady state just change the image using the background-image property.  The basic format is:

  background-image: url(pathto/image.png);

  I use it with my menus all the time.  However, I find most of the time that I do my menus using a plugin project seven ( http://www.projectseven.com/ ).  My site menus are usually made with Pop Menu Magic (all their products are great and support is there for although it their forum is a discussion forum).

  After talking to some friends who know more then me and research, I copied all my personal files on a stick to 4gig and erased the hard drive.  Spent New Years day adaptation of files, wipe the HD, install Vista again and then 6 and hours of updates.

  Monday, I installed my old files, installed new software and reinstall some of my previous, as well as several updates of Windows.

  Tuesday a finer adjustment and more windows updates.

  Today, Wednesday, right off the bat I installed another Windows update.  Update has been installed, computer shut down, restarted, then the computer stopped at step 1 of 3 @ 97%.  I went for half an hour to come back to an error screen telling me I had a corrupted file and to reinstall Vista and using my factor disc repair system.  I wasn't allowed this option.

  I subsequently through trying different restarts that File:\Windows\system32\winload.exe has been corrupted or damaged or missing Windows update attempt.  Given that I had my Windows disk that I was never worried before making a boot disk.  I/we (family of 6) do not have the financial means to purchase recovery discs, go to a tech help.  We are ourselves.  Can someone help me out here?  Are all my personal details on my laptop, a lot of money and time tied up in programs, I can't access.

  With all this, if I have to reinstall windows I better upgrade to a 32-bit on a 64-bit?  This will cause problems with existing programs? I see a noticeable improvement in speed?  I checked and I can't change to 64-bit.

  Since you have a Lenovo, you can try to get to WinRE among advanced startup options (f8) and performa than a system restore or if you must organize a drive to install Windows Vista full version and try to perform a system restore in Windows recovery environment and check if that helps.

  I "inherited" a Web site layout that has some CSS problems, I hope you can help me with. I've tried everything I can think of, but I still have the problem.

  According to my observation, that you need to add "display: table" this will also work in FF and IE7

• Very basic CSS Menu problem

  Hi guys!

  I'm building a site with a very simple navigation in CSS:

  If you notice when you are on the home page the 'Home' link on the navigation is gray - my customer also wants this to a link to the home page, for the moment, it is not.

  My problem is that I want the link in a different color (in this case gray), yet still be a link. I tried to add the following in the file "css/styles.css:

  I just copied the html and css code and I see the table and the text very well. However, I'm on CS4.

  I notice you have a lot of empty table cells. Try to insert nonbreaking spaces - & nbsp;  (remove the space after the &) in empty cells. I don't know if CS3 has had a problem with the empty table cells.

• After installation of Visual Basic battery problem

  After the installation of Microsoft Visual Basic Express edition my battery indicator no longer works correctly.  It will show 100%, or 7%, or 3%, but will not regularly refresh to display the status of the battery.  I have windows XP SP3 and Visual basic installed.  Subsequently the battery indicator has hurt constantly.  I completely uninstalled the software but the problem remains.

• Basic configuration problem - please help!

  I'll put up my first PIX firewall in a network of trial right now, and it is supposed to go into production in the next few days.

  I am trying to open some ports for a server inside, doing everything 'by the book' (cisco e-learning, to be exact), but I had no success with that. Basically, I'm trying to map an inside Server (192.168.254.199) to (xxx.115.215.1) external IP address that is assigned to the external interface. The type of traffic that must be passed inside the server is http and remote desktop. (Other users are PATed to xxx.115.215.2) So I tried to use the static/conduit pairs, according to e-learning stuff...

• CSS problem - empty space at the top of page

  First of all, thank you for help. I'm having a problem with what appears to be "CSS". I am teaching Dreamweaver, and this problem makes me mental. I hope it's something very simple to fix. I have included 2 screenshot to help you better understand as well.

  I'm changing the font SIZE in another model that I did, and when I change from '12' to '14' (Arial font) he changes ANY font on the page size, put all my 'slices' completely out of wack. I want to be able to change the font size in a different area of the page (s) without him doing that. Please can someone explain how I can do this in detail? It makes me kind of mind at this point.

  If you are serious about wanting to use DW, then this will have to change.  Not only you will find yourself wandering one mysterious anomaly to another, but also you will not understand the answers you get here in this forum.  It is the code.  You can simply use DW in a real sense without a good understanding of HTML and CSS - lights should start here:

  My first comment on your code, it's that you do not have a valid and complete doctype.  Each page should have one, otherwise it will be visited by browsers quirks mode - this isn't a good thing.  You must choose a doctype that is consistent with your understanding of HTML and in your case, it would be HTML 4.01 Transitional.  By including this doctype on your page, you're avoids not only quirks made, you also tell the validator that the page contains the markup of type 'Loose' HTML 4.01 in his use of the tag attributes. You will understand it later.

  My next comment about your code, is that your approach to the layout is seriously flawed.  I'm suspicious that this code HTML was written by Photoshop or fireworks, perhaps because one) there is a layout based on a table, and b) there are pass - and rowspans galore in the table.  These last two are the kiss of death for a page layout, because they are your table, unable to resist the small 'form' changes that occur when people increase/decrease the size of text in their browser, and inexplicably gaps will appear in your table accordingly.  Please read this article to learn more on this topic and why this is happening - http://www.apptools.com/rants/spans.php.

  The answer to your original question is this - all readable content (very little) on the page is a table (i.e. in a cell))).  You have this rule in your style sheet-

  tr td {make-size: 12px ;}}

  who says "search for all cells of a table on the page and make their content 12px font size." In other words, it affects the content of the page.

  Assuming that you don't want to do would be to change this content to 12 px size and leave the rest of the content to 11px.

  1. you can add some inline CSS-

  2. you can add tags to content and adjust your rule-

  Is it makes sense?  You see why we say you have to have some comfort with HTML and CSS?

  In regard to your second question about just flatten the image, the last thing you want to do is to create a web page that can not be spidered.  A page that contains only images is one of these. Not only is such a heavy download page because it is filled with images, but it also, contains no meaningful content for the search engines rank your page with.  You might as well just after a link to a PDF file...

• Flash header not displaying not correct size... CSS problem?

  I wanted to use Dreamweaver to build a simple one page site.  The problem I have is that my header 715 x 150 shows extremely small.  It seems that it is a percentage of the 715 x 150.  I can enlarge it, but then the box so that it grows as well and uses the page.  Here is the site: http://3due.com/index14.html .  If you cannot view the source, then let me know and I'll post the code.

  I'm sure it's something simple, but I've tried everything I know to try to locate the problem.  I'm not familiar with CSS.

  Two things.  First of all this javascript file is also absent on the loading of the page: Scripts/expressInstall.swf

  Second, I downloaded this file of your site and the size that it is being 1200 x 500, not 715 x 150.  Why don't simply re-save the document in Flash.  By changing the size later I think which is causing your problem of distortion.
