  • Thunderbird has deleted my messages "deleted" instead of put them in a folder

I use Thunderbird in IMAP on a laptop running Vista. Recently, I used several Thunderbird on a laptop under XP. He doesn't have a problem - I've done it before. However, when I went back to my original Vista laptop, I found that I was now two folders called "deleted", but when I deleted a message from my Inbox it will not be sent to one of them. I then tried to remove the most recent 'deleted' folder but found that instead, I had deleted the original! It is annoying because it was full of messages that I would normally leave for 30 days.

Still, my deleted messages are not sent to any folder. If I try to select another folder that "deleted", it does not send them there no more.

How can I return to the status quo? And is it possible to recover the original "deleted" folder and make sure that I have remove the last?

Professionals tear he hair on that kind of stuff.
My guess is that Thunderbird on the computer created XP file "deleted" you see on the Vista computer, more specifically, what IMAP has created. When you opened the TB on the machine Vista IMAP updated TB to reflect changes made on the XP machine. IMAP will not let you delete the folder because it is linked to TB of XP. And as you discovered one created with Vista deleted without problem. One of your computers is acting as "Administrator", or primary. The other is a client of all kinds. When you set up IMAP from your computer the software makes a few assumptions. One computer (Vista) is the principal. Then you have the other computer system related. You have synchronized upward with the Vista machine. Insofar as the "Deleted" message goes, it's possible there are two. A he stayed right where he is and two that he disappeared. If its still in your Inbox, then it probably means that you, the user of Vista, mark it for deletion, and all that remains is for the XP user, it would be you, delete. Don't forget, IMAP think there two users on this email account. If it is gone so it's time for hair removal. Have a friend send e-mails with text in the body in order to distinguish them and do some experiments. Nothing but a good experience. It's Google; "The differences between POP and IMAP. IMAP allows users to store their email on remote servers. This bilateral protocol allows also the user to synchronize their e-mail among multiple devices, which is extremely important today, when most people have at least two devices - their laptop and the smartphone". IMAP, reiterate, doesn't know that you're on both devices. Put "POP vs IMAP" (without the quotes) in Google. There are several links on the subject. Either way, if you just put IMAP in the search box, you will get a page of a person named Imap. When you and I would ask what Imap do you hear, Google brings just imap pages read more. I say all this to check your settings. If none of this helped, I'm sorry. Write new and in detail what you did and what happened. More is better. Good luck

  • When I delete a message in Thunderbird, it is not deleted from my POP3 server.

I have account as"email on the server" settings and "until I have delete ' both checked. When I delete the email in Thunderbird version 24.4.0, enamel not get deleted on the pop server.

If I create a filter and say "delete server" any e-mail that has a STAR status. Emails get deleted from the server when I run the filter messages.

I don't think I should have to run a filter whenever I want to delete emails from the POP3 server.

I do something wrong... any ideas?

I found the answer on another forum by Tom Wijsman:

Go to Options -> Advanced -> Config Editor.

       Find the Name mail.pop3.deleteFromServerOnMove

       Set it to True.

True: Delete the copy of the message on the POP3 server if you move or delete the message.

False(default): Only delete the copy of the message on the POP3 server if you delete the message.

That of it, restart Thunderbird. You must press "Get Mail" whenever you want to synchronize with the mail server, so that you can to ensure that the messages in the application is in synchronization with the e-mail server.

What follows is to highlight to perform the synchronization with the server. You will not see your message server after the initial download to Get Mail (new downloaded messages). Once you process your Inbox in Thunderbird to delete/move a new message, and then make another mail to get, which will remove messages previously downloaded on the server (phase).

Note: If you have some old messages in your mailbox Thunderbird, they will not be deleted from the server. Delete them manually from the server. Therefore, all new messages you download, then treat (delete/move) and then synchronize up redoing Get Mail will BE deleted.

  • Windows XP SP3 - Outlook Express receives and sends mail but do not delete received messages. Can you help?

Windows XP SP3 - Outlook Express receives and sends messages, but do not delete received messages.  Can you help?

You have corruption of dbx files.

Spend most of your messages out of the Inbox and move the messages you want to record off deleted items, and sent items. Locate the OE message store and then close OE.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the Deleted Items.dbx and Sent Items.dbx files and delete them. New files will be created automatically when you open OE.

Compact all folders as described below.

To avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Information on the maximum size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=903095

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the processors and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

  • iOS 10 Mail crashes after deleting some messages

On my iPad after installing iOS 10 Mail closed unexpectly after deleting some messages. In addition, I regret the disappearance of the "remove all" button on some of the issues.

Try resetting your device. This will not erase your data stored on that device.

    • Press and hold the sleep/wake button
    • Press and hold the Home button
    • Press and hold both buttons until the display turns off and on again with the Apple logo on the subject.

Alternatively, you can go to settings - general - reset - Reset all settings

If that doesn't work, restore your device to factory settings. Please note that this will delete the data on your device.

  • When I delete a message that is part of a thread, how can Thunderbird 38.0 I delete a single message?

In the new 38.0 Thunderbird, I can't simply delete a message if I was sending and receiving messages back & forth with someone using the button answer. When I click to delete a message, it tells me that all messages in the thread will be deleted and my only options are to cancel or delete them all. How can I remove just a message from a thread?

    Thank you!

If you have your e-mails showing that "thread", you will get the issue you discuss.

So remove the threading and then delete the specific emails.
You can do this by clicking on the column header icon 'display messages '. It is usually the first column heading.

  • Thunderbird deletes the messages from the server if I said not to do so.

I use a POP3 server and have 'leave messages on the server - until I delete"checked but Thunderbird is still deleting messages from the server before my other e-mail viewer gets it.

If my other program (from MR2ICE under OS2 on another machine) Gets the first messages, I'll see them on both machines.

If Thunderbird 'em first I don't get them on the other machine, and, when I check via webmail, they aren't there.

    Thank you.

If you want to see messages on several machines, POP is not the best choice. You choose to use POP, or is it you imposed by the e-mail provider?

I don't have a job here POP account to check with, but you can try with the option ' until I have delete ' unchecked? You doing anything with messages, such as moving them to another folder?

I've never been confident with the way that ' until I have remove the ' works; If a message has been moved out of the Inbox to another folder, and you remove it, a request to delete the message always spread on the server?

With IMAP, by moving a message to a folder in account to somewhere the IMAP server can not see it is actually a deletion; the server can no longer see the message, so syncs by removing its own copy of this message. I haven't checked through what a POP server is in similar circumstances.

I'm an old Geezer Mac, but a Newbie iCloud. I just put on my two Macbook Pro iCloud email addresses and access e-mail through Apple Mail on both computers. Here are my two questions:

    (1) iCloud emails disappear at the time of my Macbook Pro when I delete a message from iCloud of one of them?

    (2) if I move an e-mail message to iCloud Inbox Mail at Mail Archive on a Macbook, can I delete the message from the second Macbook without losing the archived message?

Yes, that is what is supposed to happen with an IMAP e-mail account.

If you move it to a folder on the Mac, not in the iCloud account, you can remove safely icloud.
