best configuration for Small Business Server

I'm looking for advice on HW and SW recommendations for a small business.  We have 15 users, 20 computers and 3 printers.  I currently have a single Windows Server 2008.  I want to run a domain controller main for all users, file sharing, print server, possibly Windows Update Center and eventually MS Exchange.  I am trying to decide the best configuration of HW with a fairly cheap budget.   I currently have 1 I7 based server with 4 GB of Ram, several IBM servers, P4 306 m (I have 4 +), and a lot of hard drives (all in a half rack).  I also need a decent backup system.

Can anyone recommend the best configuration of HW player and hard?  Should I analyze server roles?  With respect to the SW, I'm a non-profit and use Windows Server 2008 (at a discount)

Thank you

FIRT off, you do not have a group-access instruction set for one of your ACL. This means that you have blocked all inbound traffic. You also have your incorrect static instructions. • Create the new virtual machine for Small Business Server 2008

    Hello

When creating a new Machine virtual and choose the guest operating system, the "Small Business Server 2008" are not listed. Just choose "Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (64-bit)"?

    Thank you

Yes, it will work, and it is supported guest OS

Edit: There is a bug in the user interface for the VIC, where probably 2008 will be displayed as Vista under the toolbar of guest operating system.

  • vCenter Server with vSphere Essentials best practices for small business

I hesitated to post this thread for fear of redundancy, but I wasn't able to find an answer in previous discussions.

I read the installation documentation for vSphere Essentials vCenter Server installation.

Is it a good idea to install vCenter on my ESXi host as a virtual machine?  I don't understand how the server can be installed as a virtual machine if she must always be on.  What happens when I do the updates of the hypervisor, ESXi (4.0 to 4.1)?  This would not cause the vCenter Server to disconnect?

Because I have Essentials, I don't have a HA and cannot migrate the server vCenter Server to another host as shown in the installation documentation.

    Thank you

It should not be a problem - if you manually perform the update using either the esxupdate or vcenter command vihostupdate does not at all in the game - if you use VUM he actually intitiates the vihostupdate order - when restarting the host to be reconnecting to vcenter once it is running.

I use an old server.  I've been reading that you can fix the file for XP if you have the disc but Server 2003 a 5 disk, that you would use, or would you use even one of them?

  • User logged on the server over the RDP session - Small Business Server 2011 x 64

We have a Small Business Server 2011 standard x 64.  We have the configuration of the remote desktop on port forwarding in the firewall to allow a user to connect to this server using RDP remote desktop.  This isn't a server terminal server.  No, there are no available Remote Desktop Manager settings.

When the user connects through the RDP application and connects to the server.  If the users session is idle for 15 minutes, the user is connected to the server (not disconnected the RDP session, just to connect to the server).  The user must log into the server every time that happens.  We tried adjusting the Remote Desktop Session Host settings and changed the Session time limits, but this isn't the parameter we are looking for.  We have looked extensively through the default domain group policy and see nothing active to this behavior.  We examined local group policies and studied the session time limits in the user and computer configuration > policies > models Admin > RDP >... session host and it is has anything configured here which could trigger this behavior.

Yet once, it connects the disabled user, not closing the remote session.  We have also examined the user account for this user and looked for resume posting require logon settings (although with SBS, it is not even there to adjust the display settings).  I had partner Microsoft supports focus on this during one hour (he didn't use too much of my time to support) and they have been unable to resolve within an hour.

    Help, please!

    Thank you.

  • What is the difference (other than the device/user limit) feature which would prevent me from installing this new software on Small Business Server 2003 R2 SP2, which 'requires' Windows Server 2003 Std Ed & SQL 2005 Std Ed 32bits. ?

Need to install new software to the main application. Software provider said Windows Server 2003 STD. Ed. (32 bits) and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 32-bit Standard Edition, Cumulative Update package 8 for SQL Server 2005 SP 2, MDAC 2.8 or later.  We have Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 Standard Edition (SP2 R2).

Software publisher made a special note that 'Microsoft SQL Server sent as part of Small Business Server is not supported. Please contact us for more information about SQL Server Enterprise Edition. "(contradiction?)

  • Cisco TelePresence Manager version 1.7 does support Windows Small Business Server 2008?

    Hello

Is Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2008 supported the Protocol LDAP, AD and MS Exchange server for Cisco TelePresence Manager version 1.7?

    Thank you

    AA

Hello Ahmed - although this configuration "can work", Windows 2008 Small Business Server is not on the support list. This means that it has not been tested and it certifies to work with telepresence.

To my knowledge, he's not on the roadmap for the future support however, I search and repost as soon as I have an answer for you.

    Kind regards

  • Dell PE 1950 and loading of Small Business SERVER 2003

Recently bought a Dell PowerEdge 1950 off Ebay for a training machine. Also bought a few books of MCBS Server 2003 and Small Business Server 2003. I try to install SBS on 1950, but it does not recognize the RAID. I have a USB floppy drive I could load with F6 drivers but can't seem to find just the Perc 5 / I drivers. Site Web of Dell gives only a Setup driver that wants to install the drivers on my laptop when I use it. Could get only the drivers for a PERC 5 / I integrated. My Service tag # maintain the label removed by privacy policy > I tried a server assistant open gale who would have worked very well, but it doesn't have the SBS2003, only Server 2003 list that does not work either. Thanks for your help

You need the "hard drive" (ZPE) version of the driver, and you have to run the EXE file to extract the files before using it:

    http://downloads.Dell.com/FOLDER97889M/10/DELL_MULTI-DEVICE_A07_R211422.exe

In addition, you MUST configure the RAID in the CTRL-R utility until all discs can be seen by the operating system, even with the correct drivers.

You realize that Server 2003 will be end of life in less than a year, right?  Why the push for 2003 training?  You would be better off learning from 2012.
