Best configuration/license esxi 5

I'm new to Vmware and I have to deal with 6 guests in my environment. Currently, the hosts are set up with the esxi license 5.0 free stand alone.  I have no shared storage and I wonder what would be the best configuration/license to manage these hosts without shared storage.  Thank you

To use vMotion without shared storage, you must run vSphere 5.1 or newer with at least 'Essentials Plus' licenses. Remember that the Kits Essentials can manage up to 3 guests, so if you want to manage all six guests in a unique environment you need at least the Standard vSphere licenses.

    You talk about the c3000 blade enclosure, aren't you?

    For a solution tolerant when disaster strikes, you will go probably with:

    VSwitch0 has.)

    Physical NIC: vmnic0 (1 Gbps) + vmnic2 (10 GB/s)

    (A.1) VMkernel Port Group (network management)

    vmnic0 = standby

    vmnic2 = active

    (A.2) VMkernel Port Group (Vmotion)

    vmnic0 = active

    vmnic2 = standby

    Networks of Virtual Machine A.3)

    vmnic0 = standby

    vmnic2 = active

    VSwitch1 B.)

    Physical NIC: vmnic0 (1 Gbps) + vmnic3 (10 GB/s)

    (B.1) VMkernel Port Group (Fault Tolerance)

    vmnic1 = standby

    vmnic3 = active

    -Default - VMware uses round robin to assign a virtual computer to one vmnic.

    So you don't configure port aggregating on the switches.

    You can, however, traffic using if possible VIRTUAL networks, this is why you must configure the ports as junction ports.

  • best configuration for Small Business Server

    I'm looking for advice on HW and SW recommendations for a small business.  We have 15 users, 20 computers and 3 printers.  I currently have a single Windows Server 2008.  I want to run a domain controller main for all users, file sharing, print server, possibly Windows Update Center and eventually MS Exchange.  I am trying to decide the best configuration of HW with a fairly cheap budget.   I currently have 1 I7 based server with 4 GB of Ram, several IBM servers, P4 306 m (I have 4 +), and a lot of hard drives (all in a half rack).  I also need a decent backup system.

    Can anyone recommend the best configuration of HW player and hard?  Should I analyze server roles?  With respect to the SW, I'm a non-profit and use Windows Server 2008 (at a discount)

  • LAPN300 - the best configuration for 3 access points, while using the same SSID

    Hi all

    What is the best configuration for 3 x LAPN300 located in various places around my house of 3 floors, access points if I want just one SSID?

    I did some initial research which suggests that I can use the same SSID on all three, as long as they are on different channels. 1, 6 and 11 for example. In theory, then, as I wander around the House the client machine must auto swap to the AP with the signal stronger.

    What do you think? What is the best way or do, or could suggest you something else?

    As an aside... If I decided to create a second SSID for the guests at home, I would also want to add wireless isolation to this SSID. How would that be managing the DHCP server on the local network? How would be asked to connect to the SSID has never get an IP if they have been isolated from other clients on the local network?  Besides, how they see the router? The ANNUAL lets you specify exceptions to this isolation for this feature?  Alternatively, as I suspect, is the right isolation feature isolate them from other WLAN, not the LAN clients customers?

    I did some testing and configuration of the AP with the same SSID and security will do what you want. Don't worry about setting the channel because the auto channel setting works with these devices and automatically adjusts the spacing between the appropriate channels.

    Recommendation of the VPN_user is what you need if you want to isolate the SSID comments from the rest of your network clients.

    Isolation of SSID of the AP will guard only wireless devices to communicate with each other on the same SSID on which it is enabled.

    Hi Robin

    Assuming your XXXX refers to PAKs of Cisco, the Cisco PAKs, you received should be exchanged through the VMware specific OEM portal. You will then receive emails of VMware with the VMware license. It is these received licenses of VMware, which can then be placed in the portal of VMware licenses so that they can be stored and managed.

    The following links explain the entire procedure and the second link contains a video showing the process.

  • Best Configuration for running adobe Premiere Pro CS3

    I have a 4 HARD disk system and the ability to run RAID.  What is the best configuration to run Adobe first pro CS3.  I want to be able to get the best performance out of my system.

    I wouldn't do 1 or 2 even if it is possible.

    3 won't be necessary if you use uncompressed images.  With any standard camera format, a single modern drive will be more quickly, even for multiple streams of data.

    Work terribly hard to get a RAID 0 array there somewhere, but man, it is really not necessary in most cases and may even be a bad idea for a good number of cases.

  • Best configuration of switch for 4 natachasery - 5 ESXi

    So, I need to tell my boys to network how I want the configuration of ports (Cisco switches) for 4 natachasery connection to my HP DL 360. I need the vSwitch VM access to 3 different VLAN. I'm NOT going to use vMotion for this.

    I guess, I see 2 possibilities and does not entirely undesrstand pros / cons...

    First of all, I thought I would split the enet to 2 separate switches cables, but I was told that if I chose that this channel of ports 1 route would be active and 2nd would be Eve. Basically can not paste all 4 cards and divide them. This could reduce the bandwidth, but give me a redundancy using 2 physical switches.

    Or I can have all 4 enet cables go to the same switch (etherchannel), but if this switch would die I'm dead in the water, AND I think that EtherChannel mode WE (my network guy preferred LACP) should stay and LACP cannot be used. According... http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC & docType = kc & docTypeID = DT_KB_1_1 & externalId = 1004048 I think I should also use 'Hash IP' if EtherChannel is used.

    So what is the advantage or disadvantages of each channel? Thank you!

    This article describes the aggregation of ESX/ESXi links:

    • ESX/ESXi host only supports grouping NETWORK adapters on a single physical switch or stacked switches.
    • Aggregation of links is never supported on disparate networks switches.
    • The switch must be set to perform 802.3ad aggregation of links in static mode WE and the virtual switch must have its defined route based on the IP hashload balancing method.  Ensure that participants of the network adapters are connected to the ports configured on the same physical switch.
    • Allowing each route based on the IP hash without 802.3ad aggregation or vice versa disrupts networking, so you must make the changes to the virtual switch first. In this way, the service console is not available, but the physical switch management interface is, so you can activate the aggregation on the affected ports to restore network.
    • For more information on ESX networking concepts, see the VMware Virtual Networking Concepts.
    • For more information on configuring a VLAN for NIC teaming, see Configuration of VLAN Virtual Switch, switch physical and virtual machines (1003806).
    • To set up the consolidation of NETWORK cards on ESX and a physical switch, see example configuration of EtherChannel / link aggregation with ESX/ESXi and Cisco/HP switches (1004048).
    • The only option for switch vSwitch or vDistributed that can be used with balancing EtherChannel is HASH IP.
    • Do not use tag with IP HASH load balancing.
    • Do not uplinks configure standby or not well obliterated with IP HASH load balancing.
    • VMware takes support only a single Etherchannel by vSwitch or distributed vNetwork (vDS).

    heybuzzzz wrote:

    In my case with no vMotion and just management and 3 VLAN all about 1 vSwitch I should put them all to active?

    Yes, they should all be active, there is really no need passive adapters (that I'm aware of your configuration).

    On your physical switches, you don't need to do anything more than what allows a VLAN correct, i.e.: should all etherchannel or a similar montage. Side vSwitch, you must use the default 'Port ID' nic teaming strategy.

  • How to reset the configuration on esxi 5.1 which hangs at startup?

    Hi, I have a lab at home where I have an ESXi 5.1.0 host configured to turn on a virtual machine at startup of the host. The host starts and I'll see the DCUI for a few seconds before getting a purple screen crash. This started after I set up a virtual machine to use the pass through peripheral PCI. I found 2039030 which explains this bug KB. There is a patch, but as much as I know I can't apply it because the host crashes. Now, I'm a bit of a newb and was looking for ways to reset the configuration to prevent switch off when the host starts the virtual machine. I can't find a way to make this change. I tried the recovery of hypervisor mode during startup (Maj (R) but I get a warning saying there is no other hypervisors for restore. So is there a way I can either apply the hotfix to a host offline esxi (starting with a knoppix USB) or change a configuration so that vm does not automatically turn on, or if necessary just reset the entire configuration (again, by booting to a usb key)? Thank you!

    Probably the best way to reset the configuration in this case is to re - install ESXi. Make sure that you select "Install ESXi, VMFS datastore preserve" and - once installed and configured - register the virtual machine to inventory in click with the right button on their .vmx files in the data store Navigator.

  • Optimal configuration for ESXi 5.1 scenario

    Hi all

    Ive got a new i - 3 DELL T110 II server which will be used for the backup of virtual machines on an ESX 4.0 host.

    IM under ESXi 5.1 to a USB flash drive on an internal slot, but this is where I'm looking for assistance.

    Ive got 3 x 500 GB sata drives that I intend to run a RAID 5 configuration, but doesn't quite do all homework and Im stuck stuck with a PERC S100 RAID controller.

    Virtual machines that I will support up to are limited resources Suse Linux servers - be bad using veeam backup on the ESXi host.

    I was able to combine the 3 disks in a data store on the ESXi host, but that is not really giving me any redundancy with the readers, if one of them fails.

    Question:

    Should I bite the bullet and get a hardware RAID controller? If Yes, who would probably be the best compatible model?

    Or

    Is there any other configuration I can configure to provide redundancy on my data without the need to use a hardware RAID card.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello

    Hardware RAID is always a better solution/practice. Please take a look at the http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php?deviceCategory=san HCL and select the appropriate pattern you are looking and confirm his support. Hope that answers your query.

  • VMkernel configuration on esxi 4.0

    Hello, I'm putting ESXi 4.0 installed for the first time and have come across something that seems a little strange or unfamiliar.

    in general I have set up my VMkernel on its own virtual switch vSwitch1

    I have set up the port of Teddy to this configured vSwitch in an isolated VIRTUAL local network and I use 192.168. *. * type the IP addresses that are not compatible with the rest of our network.

    When I want to configure my port of vmotion there invite me to configure a gateway and I simply insert the IP address as my address of VMotion.

    In ESXi, this does not happen.  It seems that he wants to use the same gateway as my switch "network management".

    So to condense my question short long-term, am I now supposed to work VMotion on my management network traffic?  This seems to go against all the best practices I've learned learning ESX.

    So far I've searched for a few references to this but so far no luck in finding how I'm supposed to properly configure VMotion on ESXi 4.0 U2.

    Advice in this regard is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

  • Best practices for ESXi system saves location

    Hi all

    What is the recommendation of VMWare for the storage location of the ESXi logs? Of course, if a VMFS path is not configured under software > advanced settings, then the papers will not be stored on a persistent storage. We have installed 5.5 ESXi hypervisor on a 16 GB USB, newspapers can be stored there?

    Thank you!

    You must configure partitions on the USB key, which is a bit complicated. One for ESXi and the other for logging. If the host has local storage (our not, that is why we are doing the extra work) it may be better to just write logs in the data store.
