Best Mac for work

We are looking to upgrade our editing system.

We produce 1-2 minute animated graphics in After Effects CS4.  Also, we import miniDV footage and use "edit multi-cam" in Prime ProCS4 to produce a 30-minute TV show.

We are looking at a Mac Pro.  Give me your recommendations on the processor, Ram, HD, graphics card and how to have an overview on the video monitor TV.  We have an internal 2 TB server, so I don't think that I need more HDs to storage media.

Thanks in advance.

Fishging:

First of all, please don't take this as official approval or anything like that. Just an educated (hopefully) opinion on your question.

Configuration stock/low end octo-core (8 x 2.26 Ghz) should give great bang for your buck, especially for simultaneous processing capabilities in AE. These machines are really quick.

But... to enjoy simultaneous frame rendering, you want at least 2 GB per database RAM, or AE may not use all the cores in such a computer. 16 GB of RAM which would explain. Normally, I would recommend not to get RAM from Apple, because it's so expensive. But the thing is that this machine comes six 1 GB DIMMS, leaving only two empty slots for RAM. If you want to probably order on Apple with 8 GB (4x2Go) and you add another 8 GB. If you want to keep things simple, just order it with 16 GB of RAM from Apple.

The stock graphics card should be good for AE.

It comes with a 640 GB hard drive. You can get a few other 1 TB internal readers extremely cheap. Like $130 each or less. Today, these easily manage up to SD compressed and compressed HD SATA drives. Doesn't sound like you need HD uncompressed.

Regarding the connection to a video monitor, there are tons of options Decklink, AJA, Matrox and others. You want to check that your monitor has entered video component (available in almost all the video and more means of televisions high-end pro monitors), given that most of these solutions offer analog component and HDMI. But they also have some low-end models with Composite output (as models Decklink, intensity or the new Matrox MXO2 Mini, for example).

  • Best laptop for work with Adobe CC

I'm about to buy a new laptop. I did some internet research on what is a good laptop to work with the software Adobe CC. I'm having a hard time getting a response. Does anyone have suggestions on what laptop to get that works with all of the suite No. or minimum questions? I heard that the Nvidia driver has problems with Adobe. That of just 10 Windows or is it ok for Windows 8? I hate to get an older version when a new version is released, any suggestion that someone can provide would be appreciated. Although you can specify what system requirements I should look for. It must be that this laptop to last me for a while, so I don't want to get something that is obsolete in a year or two.

  • With the help of my LR CC subscription on someone of another Mac for work on my images

    Hello

So far, I had to lug my Macbook Pro to work on my images with someone else who has no LR or the latest pf LR.

In New York, there is a lot to carry on mass transportation, up and down stairs and the back - especially at my age. A Macbook, more readers, power brick, the cords, etc. - it all adds up.

So I was wondering if there is an easier way on my body to do. Any ideas?

    Raphael, you have 2 choices:

    1. take you mobile PC with you

    2. install LightRoom on the other computer

Anything else will cause many more problems that will probably help.

  • What is the best workflow for longer projects with music?

Hello. I'm just getting into after effects and WOW, I soak every tutorial I can. That being said, I wonder what's the best practice for working with longer projects. Let me give you a scenario.

So, I have my HAND COMP with piece of music in 3 minutes I sync up to my animations.

I create ANIMATION COMP 1 and drop it in the HAND COMP.

So let's say that I want to adjust something in ANIMATION COMP 1.

I switch back to ANIMATION COMP 1 window to make my adjustments.

Problem: Bed of music is in comp 1 so I can't listen to music and make adjustments accordingly.

The obvious solution is to simply create everything on 1 composition. But is there a way to make the MAIN COMP room if you change a secondary layout?

    Thank you

The only sensible thing to do for a few minutes longer project to edit in Premiere Pro and make the moves you must treat as individual comps in After Effects. Comps are for the creation of pictures and short clips. Try to put 80 or 100 cups in a single cimp is not only difficult to treat, but finding the flow with the music of changes are almost impossible.

If you want to get a real specific on all your production must begin before a single frame is shot. Shot a bunch of stuff and try to build something later are a very very bad idea unless there is no other choice. I did a lot of musical projects him more than 45 years in the business and even if you can't draw, just block storyboards will save you a lot of time.

I hope this helps. If you remember that make you plans in an EA and you had it first and you mix sound in addition, you will be in good shape.

  • Best Mac Pro Configuration for LR?

For various reasons, I'm planning on migrating from my home desktop pc (4 years core2 2.4 ghz xp pro sp 3 32-bit to access the 2.93 on 4 GB of ram) to a new or (slightly used recently) Mac Pro desktop computer.  The Mac Pro is available in many different configurations and I would appreciate advice on the number of cores and the amount of ram I really need to run comfortably LR3x and its upgrades (within reasonable limits) and the PS3 for now and more later probably all that is underway.  I'm a reasonably advanced amateur photographer. I shoot what interests me and now use LR 90-95% of my post processing of my image of Leica and Canon raw files. I use some add-ons (SilverEfex Pro2 and others).

I understand some articles read too much muscle in the Mac Pro can actually slow down LR, so if this is the case I would stay slim; also economic issues are somewhat a matter of concern.

I have already considered a laptop or an iMac and decided that the Mac Pro is what I want.  The question is just "what will work best for me?

Thanks in advance and if you want more information, just make me know.

p.s. - What is disabled in this Forum search function?  I couldn't make it work.

@ Bob: I think you might have acquired some misinformation somewhere. There is no such thing as "too much muscle" in a Mac Pro in relation to Lightroom - or any other program. OS X allocates resources to applications as they need. Unused resources remain inactive or are used by other applications.

Adobe posts the minimum requirements for their applications, but these should be just taken as a starting point. In my opinion you should buy the best Mac Pro can manage your budget - and maybe a little more. The computer is an investment, after all, not a luxury. That said, you need to run Lightroom efficiently and Jay what to do video editing are not necessarily the same. For video rendering more hearts are better. For Lightroom, the question of the number of processor cores is less critical. Whereas, to speed the CPU is more relevant. For both, the amount of RAM can make a big difference.

I recommend as a starting point, at least a Mac Pro quad-core with 4 GB of RAM. That would make if you were watching an iMac as well.

I understand, however, looking at the current line-up of Mac Pro how can be confusing. The plu Nehalem powered Mac Pros look faster for less money, but now it is old technology. The new Intel Westmere processors offers significant improvements in performance. Unfortunately, they are also much more expensive than any upgrade Mac CPU previous. But if you want to 'future proof' your new Mac, one with a Westmere CPU is the best way to go. Model of 8 cores with Jay seems to be the best value, with two quadruple-heart 2.4 GHz CPU of Westmere. However, for only $200 more you can get the 6 base 3.33 GHz CPU Westmere. For the purpose of Lightroom, the fastest CPU Model 6 main more of a difference that the two additional cores will be in the version of 8 basis. And the version of the 6 core will take care of any multitasking job you throw at it; She, using Lightroom together with Adobe Photoshop, for example.

To scramble a bit more, however, if the use of Lightroom is your main concern, a Mac Pro can be exaggerated. The new iMacs, which came out since you started this thread, are excellent machines. You could get much more for your money with a 27 "iMac, BTO with a quad-core 3.3 GHz Intel Sandy Bridge CPU, 8 GB of RAM and a hard disk of 2 TB for about $1000 less than the Mac Pro that you look. With a compatible computer, you get a screen wonderful 27 "on the iMac. I don't know why you think you need the Mac Pro. The iMac can now draw up to 16 GB of RAM. If you were to get one with 8 GB factory installed by Apple - as a BTO option - it would be still two empty slots of RAM available for a future upgrade. You could add an SSD to the iMac and always pay less than you would for the Mac Pro.

And the new iMacs have a Thunderbolt port; Indeed, 27 "models have two ports Thunderbolt. These offer much better results and greater flexibility than any previous i/o connection. With a suitable adapter, you can use any device external, including eSATA, FireWire 400 and 800, USB 1, 2 and 3 and even Ethernet and an external monitor. Sure, the iMac has still four USB 2 ports and a Firewire 800 port and a slot for SDXC memory card. For what it may be, I suggest you only give the iMac another look. Your budget will thank you.

  • best way to work between after effects and first pro - for titration?

Recently, I went to Vegas and get the long ok with Premiere Pro. But I'm now ventured into After Effects, in an attempt to import certain models of text.

First of all, what is the best workflow for using patterns of text effects. I would first of all the video, rendering and import the video into Ae where I can fine tune titles?

Or do I have to import, sort, the work that I do in Ae in my project of Pr?

The problem I have are in both cases.

When I visited the titles of EI, of high quality, the returned product has major flaws, suddenly white fuzz as an old TV on an analog antenna.

Or well, when I try to import the Pr Ae project, the Pr is in 1080 and 720 is the text in the template and so it seems smaller than is it supposed to be.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

    Michael

There are exceptions to every rule, but in the great majority of cases, unless it's a great project short, keep your first sequence in first and do not send it to AE. Design your titles that separate compositions in a file of After Effects project, then you can import these compositions in first without any made on whatever it is. You can even update the text inside the first without having to return to the AE. Performances are sometimes doubtful during playback, but it depends on your system and you can always create a preview of a file. More info here:

    William,

Yes, you can have installed creative cloud and on two computers, signed as long as you don't use it on one at a time. Download and install as you did on the first computer, sign in to your Adobe account on the Adobe using your Adobe ID website, download the desktop app from clouds, then download the software.

You can download the installer for Creative Cloud from here:
Creative cloud help | Creative cloud desktop.

After you install the creative Cloud desktop application, you will need to sign in with a login password and Adobe. Then you can install applications. This link provides more information and step by step instructions, if you need: CC help | Download, install, update or uninstall applications

  • Best app for the batch processing of photos for the web?

I would like to know what is the best application for batch processing photos for the web quickly and easily. I'm a web editor and often need to resize, compress, or crop several photos and would like a quick way to configure the basic parameters and processes for example 20 pictures at once. Basically, I'm looking for something with the ability to FastStone Photo Resizer (I'm on a Mac and cannot use FastStone). I remember an once suggested graphic designer LightRoom - would that be a good idea or Adobe has something else? Or maybe not Adobe at all?

PhotoShop seems heavy for this purpose: it is ideal to make the photo woth that much at the time, but less large to do less with many pictures at once. I know that I can implement some sort of macro-thingie, but I would like to be able to quickly change settings such as the percentage of compression or the width in pixels.

I don't need a lot of editing tools, mostly just work in pixels, resizing, compression or cropping and save for the web in .jpg and .png - and Mac.

I hope someone here can guide me in the right direction.
