Best OS for mid 2009 MBP

Hello

I have 13 "environment 2009 running 10.6.8 MBP. I don't had not updated the operating system far as I feared that the performance will go down because it has 2 GB of RAM.

However, it has now reached a level where its just become painful to use the system, so I'm planning the next upgrade:

1 out to 8 GB of RAM max

2 swap on optical drive for 250 GB SSD for the OS and keep the old 160 GB hard drive.

I'm not sure that exceeds with upgrade what operating system will be better suited for my MBP? I had intended to put the Mavericks as I heard both Yosemite and El Captain will not work it smooth on an older version of the macbook pro. I would be really grateful if anyone can advice that will be the best OS? I mostly use my laptop computer for word processing and e-mail and yes the light room 4.

Also, should I swap the optical drive for the new SSD or the old HDD? (My optical drive does not in all cases). I earlier had intended to get 500GB SSD but then decided to go for 250 and save money as I have 1 TB external hard drive I use since I'm working on several machines, most of the time.

Other advice or point I should keep in mind during the upgrade?

Thank you very much

El Capitan

    Hi all

The battery on my MBP of mid 2009 is on its way. I discovered recently that Apple now no no batteries for MBP 2009 community service because they are vintage. I was very disappointed by Apple, after hearing this. My question is what is the best replacement of the third battery in my laptop? I read the comments from Anker Lizone, keys and power GreenBox. They all seem similar, much good reviews, some bad. Nothing similar to the original farm. Any tips or suggestions? Thanks in advance!

  • OS for mid 2009 MacBook Pro update

I work for a non-profit on a laptop given to us by a local research laboratory. So the first thing to understand is that I have to find "the best way to make things work" even though it is not as advanced or great power that may be desirable in an ideal situation. Who says:

I've been running OS 10.6.8 on a MacBookPro mid-2009. From now on, the software companies are all pulling the versions of software that I can use on 10.6.8 so I have no choice but to update my operating system.

My concern: two years ago I updated a MacBookPro 2007 10.6.8 to 10.7 (Lion) and he died 3 weeks later. The technology at the Mac Genius Bar told me that it was because the real hardware - hard drive of the machine - was so old that the upgrade has been too hard on it and it burned. I understand that, even if the hard drive is not burning after an upgrade, the computer may run very slowly and for the same reason (physical constraints). It would also be a problem.

Given all this, what is the best suggestion for the safest possible and achievable OS upgrade, that I can put on my machine so I can stay in business? Can probably manage 10.7, even if the material is nearly 7 years old? What 10.8.5 10.8 or same?

I realize that system specs say it can work even in Yosemite. But I don't want to take the risk that go well, given my recent disasters.

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

You never mentioned the amount of RAM the machine has-

You can always switch to Mountain Lion 10.8 - here

    http://www.Apple.com/shop/product/D6377Z/A/OS-x-mountain-lion

There is a cost, but I don't know if you call or otherwise contact Apple with your situation - you can get a redemption code - well no harm in trying

  • Best Config for the new MBP 13 "retina? (decide between the RAM and the space... i7 also confirmation is worth)

I'm in the market for a new MBP 13 "retina and I have a few questions about where max out of the unit.

What I have... I currently have a renovated MBP 13 "retina, end 2012, 2.9 GHz, 8 GB to 128 GB of storage. I was especially pleased with this machine. I love the SSD and the quick start. The only regions that in deca for me were video compression and storage of physical disk speed. I currently have about 30 GB HD free space, but it's because I'm a Spartan and store essential files only on the MBP. Without a doubt, I want to double my storage on the following I buy (at least it will give it more leeway to work properly).

What I do for a living... I am a writer and also a vlogger. I opted for the i7 chip because video compression is painful on the cell current, particularly H264. I use MS Word, Photoshop, Quicktime Pro and compression software to take videos and convert raw. MOV H264. So my core processing tasks, record audio/video and audio/video compression. I turn on photoshop work.

What I would like to get...

    • MacBook Pro 13 inch with Retina display
    • 3.1GHz dual - core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.4 GHz
    • Intel Iris 6100 graphics card
    • 8 GB RAM
    • 256 GB HD

    My Questions:

    1. It is better to push either the HD or RAM, up to 16 GB or 512 GB, respectively? I can't afford both. Or does save $200. (I upgraded in general on 3-year cycles)
    2. I guess that the i7 will help with the compression of various media or export tasks I have? Usually, I have to record videos using the internal camera and then export it into a format more suitable for delivery. Same with the audio (except that I capture with a blue Yeti MIC). Basically, I want to just speed up export jobs and compression. To do this, I guess the i7 and turbo boost will shine?

Just curious if anyone has any advice... I would like to purchase today. Thank you! I'm leaning towards i7 with 256 SSD and 8 GB of RAM. Since I already have an i7 on my 2012 model, descending into the processor speed is not really sense (2.9-2.7). Nor do the same (2.9 to 2.9). I'd love to 16 GB of RAM, but it pushes the machine to near $2 K.

  • Mid-2009 MBP memory is compatible with the iMac late 2009?

    Hello

I just upgraded the memory for my MacBook Pro (from 2 X 2 GB 2 X 4 GB)... I was going to sell the used memory space but realized that I might be able to add to my iMac late 2009.  How will I know if it's compatible?  Currently the iMac only has 4 GB as 2 units but is expandable to 16 GB and has 4 slots available.

Forward a response and thanks in advance.

Hi OhThatGirl, you can use theCrucial memory Advisor for this.

  • Best SSD for end 2011 MBP?

As the title suggests, I'll be in the market to improve the speed of my MBP late 2011. I upgraded the RAM 16 GB, and it made a wonderful difference. I record music on my computer, and I'd appreciate a reliable car with good read/write speeds.

I looked in the EVO of 850 Samsung 500 GB drive, read some reviews and it seems most often receive positive responses. Are there any problems with it I should know about, or is there a better car for about the same price?

Also, I read that there are sometimes problems with the implementation of a new drive from a backup. Can someone refer me to a good guide that clearly lists the steps to set up a new drive from a backup? I've stuck with OSX 10.9.5 and want to keep the same configuration, just with a faster drive.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

I use Crucial in my MBP in early 2011.  OWC (macsales.com) sells compatible devices.

Samsungs are actually show several questions in these forums... firmware update is needed to make them fully compatible mac apparently.  Or it could just be that Samsungs sell as much as even small-ccurrence-of-problems appear more often.  But I'd still go to OWC first if my Crucial current failed today (much too early, according to all the life expectancy estimates).  If I wanted just a new smile, I'd be probably Crucial or OWC.

You can make the transition easier... Download CarbonCopyClone ($40, bombich.com) and an external box or connect the kit to copy your current internal to the new SSD.  Then do the surgery after the SSD will start to your satisfaction.

  • My MBP mid-2009 will not be updated to El Capitan 10.11.2

I tried to upgrade my MacBook Pro for mid-2009 El Capitan 10.11.1 running to the new version today on the App Store. The installation seems to be going smoothly, but when it is started on the desktop, I got this error message:

When I went to 'the way my Mac', it still shows the old version number:

And when I tried to open Mail.app, I got this error:

I tried to reinstall with the 10.11.2 updater combo of Apple's site, but does not either.

How can I resolve this problem and install 10.11.2?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hey there,

First of all, I would advise all backup on your computer, just in case.

Second, it might be useful to just try to reinstall the update, because I had problems with the updates install before that have been resolved by just try again.

If these don't work (this is when the backup is very important) I would consider formatting your drive and reinstall the operating system from a fresh drive. This should only really be used as a final scenario, although, like bringing all your files back on the computer could be a pain.

    I hope this helps!

  • With the Mavericks 2009 MBP starts, won't back up

I have a MacBook Pro for mid-2009 Mavericks running (slowly). Two days ago, he froze and wouldn't respond. I let it rest awhile and then held down the power button. When I turned it back on, he got on the gray apple screen and then the loading wheel would run indefinitely. I close it then once again, but nothing helped. I looked online and found Linc Davis's response:

MacBook pro won't start.  Stuck on apple with spinning logo.

Under notice here, I deleted an external HD started in recovery mode (which took awhile, but ends by occurred) and the utility disk and from there tried to transfer the partition Go Macintosh HD 499.11 the 500.11 GB Toshiba HD to a slightly larger partition of my HDD external newly restructured. I waited a bit (he told me that I had 1 day and 8 hours continuously without change), and then he gave a "input/output error" and stopped trying. I have since stopped, not wanting to take the risk of any action without advice by Prime.

I have data on that disc that I don't have in my last backup and would like to save as much as possible. What are my options? What should I try next?

If you have another Mac available, I suggest that you try the target disk mode:

    https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT201462

Or out the HARD drive, install it in a closed enclosure and connect it to another Mac and see if you can access your files.

If no success, the you must decide if you want to try the data recovery software available on the Internet.  It is not free.

    Ciao.

  • The Sierra of MacOS will propose for the Mid 2009 MacBook Pro in the near future?

I have a model Mid 2009 MacBook Pro and when I try to upgrade the software of OS systems to the Sierra, he refused my request to download because it "cannot be downloaded to this computer." I noticed other Mac computers, for example, iMac Mid 2009 or newer and MacBook Mid 2009 or more recent systems only one are close to mine are candidates to download the software, but the MacBook Pro is the only one that is not on this list for availability. So, my question to my question is, will be available Mid 2009 MacBook Pro updated to day for Sierra anytime soon? And if not, why?

Please let me know what your answer is as soon as possible.

    Thank you!

    My answer is no.

However, as long as I and everyone here, do not work for Apple, my answer is certainly not authoritative.

However, as I've used Apple computers for more than 30 years, he never had a case when they released an additional OS that works on previously excluded material.

The Snow Leopard is one of the more stable OS Ive ever used, but you won't have a lot of features.  Mavericks is in the Middle, has more features and is always quite stable. I would, however, try to reinstall El Capitan, or deleting some files to free up space.

  • restore the firmware for macbook pro 13 mid 2009

Hi all! This is my first time using the support community so forgive me for any rudeness and English summary.

I recently bought a used mid 2009 macbook pro 13 "with no disc on this subject, I installed a new empty 120 GB ssd drive.

I asked a friend and he has downloaded and made me a usb bootable with osx on it (lion). I instaled the osx and got the macbook running successfully and it was perfect.

I decide to update and went up el capitan wich sucessfully installed. After the update I tried it out, web navigation simple, when suddenly, out of nowhere the mac stop (much battery left and the led indicator to confirm) and has not started since... when I turn it on the led light flashes and it gives the s.o.s. beep (3 short beeps followed by 3 long beeps and then 3 short beeps) the optical drive made his usual looking noises of boot and the fan continues to spinning, I tried to remove the battery 10 minutes several times and nothing... I read a lot about the problems of ram tested with one stick at a time in the two slots and no improvement... bought a new pair of hynix 2 gb 1066 mhz pc3-8500 ddr3 sticks as recommended for this model and replaced the "old"... did nothing.

I have no original discs just the macbook itself and the charger. Also tried to boot from the usb drive... not good... tried to start mode revovery... nothing that the black screen and a beep sounds.

I did some research and read a looooot online and in discussions such as this apple and found it to be the sound warning for bad/corrupted efi rom (as opposed to the majority of people declaring it to be a ram issue) which needs to be restored or flashed... However, apple does not provide or at least I can't find a picture of recovery for my model cd special I know it's the macbook 5.1 (a1278 / emc2254). Is there any solution for this? Please help in some way that you can welcome suggestions!

    Thank you

Then, you say at the end of your post, you say that it is a MacBook, but it is a MacBook Pro. Check which model you have.
