'Best practices' by vCenter server Windows Update IM & C.

Ciao,.

vcenter he having in con virtuale db remote mssql (sempre su VM) ho sempre fatto gli convenctions di windows sul vCenter Server doing place prima snapshot uno, poi e riavvio, verification che sia tutto ok tramite windows update it controllo del vCenter Service status (the icona con lo stetoscopio verde) snapshot rimozione poi. Sempre tutto liscio m'immagino mia sia corretta would quindi fits.

E' a po' più quando vuole aggiornare vm complex con db server for it, perche quando if production questa it servizio vCenter sull'altra Può avere problemi.

Ciao,.

  • Backup of VM best practices using vCenter Server

    Hi all

I currently plan to backup my virtual machine in VMWare ESXi 4, I have

installed the trial vCenter Server 4.0 administration server.

My 2 x ESXi 4 server connected to a San and sharing a single LUN so

in this case, I would like to create another LUN in the SAN to

Hold the Backed up SAN. (see attachment)

and I'm still not sure about which license should I get for this question? between essential or Foundation

My goal is to be able to do:

1 backup and restore using VCB

    2. ease of management of VM creation and the cloned VM management, models and migration (moving between SAN and SATA Local data store) offline.

HA and VMotion is not important at the moment.

any suggestions and comments will be greatly appreciated.

There is no way to "upgrade to ESX ESXi" without a complete reinstallation of the product.  If you really want instead of ESXi ESX, you should be able to just install ESX, ESXi over and tell him to keep all existing partitions intact VMFS.  You will lose all your settings (vSwitches, etc.), but you shouldn't lose all virtual machines.  In fact if the ESX host is SAN attached so you can just blow everything about ESXi installation and install ESX and reattach the VMFS LUNS to the new ESX host.  You shouldn't lose anything it. Make sure that the ESX host is not attached to the SAN when installing ESX (unplug the cable) than who has been known to cause problems.

You will get no reduction in functionality if you stay with ESXi.  Once an appropriate license, ESX and ESXi work exactly the same.  The main differences lie in the way you manage servers with the absence of a Service Console on ESXi.  Given that VMware intends to get rid of the Service Console completely in future versions, it might be logical just to go in that direction now and stay with ESXi.

  • Best practices for vCenter 5.1 with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2

I am looking for a best practices or really any documentation on configuring vCenter 5.1 with a SQL Server 2008 R2 database. I see that SQL Server 2008 R2 is supported, but that's all. Any help is appreciated.

Unless you have a huge (and I mean huge) environment, the vCenter database in general is not that big of a deal or go-getter and was apparently not deemed worthy for some secret magic tips because of this.

Standard SQL "best practices" and observe the standard installation documentation when deployment vCenter and you should be good to go.

Some documents on the vCenter more in-depth database are here:

    Hello

Your question of Windows 7 is more complex than what is generally answered in the Microsoft Answers forums. It is better suited for the public on the TechNet site. Please post your question in the following link for assistance:

  • Service component of VMware Manager fails to start in vCenter Server 6 Update 2

    Hello

A brief idea of my test environment:

    VCenter servers:

    VC1 - recorded at the psc1 in Site1

    VC2 - recorded at psc2 in Site2

    External Services platform controllers:

    psc1 - Site1

    PSC2 - Site2

    SSO domain: vsphere.local

I upgraded from vCenter Server 5.5 update 3d to vCenter Server 6.0 Update 2. VCenter 5.5 servers had integrated / embedded of SSO and all services running on the same machine and were in modes related before the upgrade and I have them removed modes related before the upgrade. They have been upgraded to vCenter Server 6.0 with Embedded PSC and they entered automatically improved Linked Mode (ELM).

After the previous step, I deployed the PSC external psc1 respectively 2 and psc2 mode of replication with vc1 and vc2 in the same site Site1 and Site2. I migrated then boarded two PSC vCenter servers to their respective partners external PSC of replication by running the command cmsso-util reconfigure - repoint-PSC "psc1/psc2" - administrator user name - domain name "vsphere.local" - passwd "Hasło_Administratora." This operation ended successfully and my vCenter have been reconfigured as vCenter Server with external CFP.

After that, I followed article KB VMware 2127057 (agreements ofdetermination of replication and the State with the service controller 6.0 platform (2127057) |) The VMware KB) do psc1 and psc2 external replication of the PSC 2 partners either by running the command vdcrepadmin-f createagreement-2--h psc2.clifford.local h psc1.clifford.local u Administrator w 'Hasło_Administratora '. I ran this command psc2. Also, this operation succeeded, and when I ask the State of replication of the psc1 of replication partners and psc2, there is nothing wrong. However, after restarting my vSphere Infrastructure, I see that vc1, psc1 and psc2 have all their services started successfully.

VC2 services seem to be failing, especially the service component manager of VMware which is required for many other services start. The VMware HTTP Reverse Proxy service starts properly and I have no IIS role / feature installed on my machine. The error message that occurs when you try to manually start the service is also attached as a file Error2.JPG in the discussion. The Windows event log error is as deeply as the file Error3.JPG in the discussion.

Please let me know how to solve this problem as soon as possible.

Well, I found a solution myself.

In fact, after I created the external PSC 2 psc1 and psc2 partners of replication of the vc1 and vc2 in Site1 and Site2 respectively, I had to immediately follow section KB VMware 2127057 in order to create a replication agreement between the 2 external to the PSC psc1 and before psc2 I reconfigured and show the vCenter servers vc1 and vc2 of on-Board of the PSC outside the PSC following the VMware Documentation (Center of) VSphere documentation 6.0).

    That's all.

Thanks to all for looking into it.

  • Best database for vCenter Server 4

I was wondering what would be the best recommendation for vCenter database server SQL 2005 Enterprise or Standard 64-bit or 32 or 64-bit SQL 2008 Standard or Enterprise. I am trying to build a benefits and disadvantages. I have the database compatibility matrix, but I wondered about the characteristics that could give vCenter that it may not have the capacity. SQL 2008 gives any advantage that 2005 is not that someone has seen or knows. I just want to understand the best database to go with any information about this would be very useful to make my decision. I have difficulties to find advantages and disadvantages to decide what data to go with vCenter

    Hello

in my opinion, it depends on your deployment, at the present time that I deployed SQL Server 2008 and use with my VCenter 4 so far it was good my environment is relatively low 88 VMs, it's the configuration I use:

    SQL Server 2008 SP1 STD x 64

    Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 x 64 STD

I did not notice my old previous deployment if performance:

    SQL Server 2005 STD x 86 SP3

    Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 STD x 86

back then my environment was still 35 VMs

  • Best practices Upgrade Path - Server 3 to 5?

    Hello

I am trying a migration and upgrade of a server in the Profile Manager. I currently run an older mac mini Server 10.9.5 and Server 3 with a vast installation of Profile Manager. I recently successfully migrated the server itself out of the old mac mini on a Xserve end 2009 of cloning the drive. Still of double controls everything, but it seems that the transition between the mini and the Xserve was successful and everything works as it should (just with improved performance).

My main question is now that I want to get this software-wise at day and pass to the Server 5 and 10.11. I see a lot of documentation (still officially Apple) best practices for the upgrade of the Server 3 to 4 and Yosemite, but can't find much on the Server 5 and El captain, a fortiori from 3 to 5. I understand that I'll probably have to buy.app even once and that's fine... but should I be this staging with 10.9 to 10.10 and Server 4... Make sure that all is well... and the jump off 10.11 and Server 5... Or is it 'safe' (or ok) to jump 3 to 5 Server (and 10.9.5 to 10.11.x)? Obviously, the AppStore is pleased to make the jump from 10.9 to 10.11, but once again, looking for best practices here.

I will of course ensure that all backups are up-to-date and make another clone just before any which way that take... but I was wondering if someone has made the leap from 3-5... and had things (like the Profile Manager) still work correctly on the other side?

Thanks for any info and/or management.

In your post I keep the Mini running Server 3, El Capitan and Server 5 install the Xserve and walk through setting up Server 5 by hand. Things that need to be 'migrated' as Open directory must be handled by exporting the mini and reimport on Xserve.

According to my experience, OS X Server facilities that were "migrated" always seem to end up with esoteric problems that are difficult to correct, and it's easier to adopt the procedure above that to lose one day try.

    YMMV

  • HP stream 11-d008tu: best practices for migrating to Windows 10?

Hey there, I have a HP flow 11-d0008tu and received the notification I can upgrade to Windows 10. I want to do a clean install with a downloaded ISO but knowledge first of all, it is better to upgrade so that you get the activation done.

Can someone give me some ideas on best practices for the upgrade? The stream has only 30GB HD so I have no recovery disk, I'll just do a recovery later on USB or SD card. When I do the upgrade can deselect recovery option or delete?

Also, any other suggestions appreciated, especially which helps make effective for small HD

    See you soon

Hi, I posted an installation procedure for Windows 10 fresh for the Tablet HP Stream here.  Also, I have a laptop 11 flow but do not have that yet. I think it must be the same because they both the same drive of mem 32 GB Hynix. A change would you probably want to use the 64-bit instead of 32-bit Windows 10 ISO file, the Tablet has only 1 GB of RAM.

  • Best practices to upgrade the Windows operating system

    Hi all

I'm looking to improve vSphere Essentials Plus 4.1 to 5.5 in the near future. The vCenter Server and DB, is currently hosted on the Windows 2003 Server operating system on a physical server. I need to upgrade this server, Win2008 R2 until I can enhance vCenter to 5.5. What is the process for this task to upgrade using the same physical server?

  • Best practices of timing with Windows on ESXi4

Is there a de facto standard for indication the configuration under Windows in a VMware environment? The traditional method of a synchronized domain controller against an external source and all other servers/clients internal synchronized on this domain controller the preferred method? Or is it better to keep the hosts synchronized to an external source with NTP and configure all the virtual machines to synchronize against the host with VMware Tools?

What are your thoughts on that?

If you have joined to a domain VMs, you wish that they stay in sync on your domain controllers and therefore would fail to sync via Vmware Tools.

    So:

    • ESX hosts and vCenter sync to an external source

    • synchronization of virtual domain to the host or the external source controllers

    • synchronization of vms that are joined to a domain to via the normal methods of Windows domain controllers

  • VCenter Server 5.5 update question

I would like to install my vCenter Server Vsphere Update Manager. I have the Enterprise more of ESXi installed version. I am able to start installing Update Manager installation with worries about licenses or do I have to update my authorization to install the Update Manager? I looked online but I could not find any info on this subject.

    Thanks in advance.

Manager update comes with the ISO of the vCenter Server. The only thing to make sure is that you must have compatible versions of the vCenter and the Update Manager. That is to say, you can install Update Manager with vCenter Server 5.5 5.5 only.

And Yes, it takes a 32-bit DSN to connect to the database.
