Best way to upgrade to ESXi 4.1 ESXi 3.5

Hello

I have two hosts, one with ESXi 3.5 (free) and the other with ESXi (free) 4.1, both with local storage. I am bit concerned by the attempt to upgrade the 3.5 host, as I don't want to meet problems due to upgrade failures. Instead, I want to move the virtual machines from the host 3.5 to 4.1 host. If everything works, I can do a clean installation of the 4.1 on the old host, and then replace the virtual machines. I won't lose anything.

Maybe I'll buy a license of vSphere Essentials, but I don't know if this will help me moving virtual machines as the host 3.5 will be without a permit until the migration is complete. Am I wrong? Is vSphere Essentials enough to make migration cold also?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Hello

You can try one of the methods would be to:

Stop the VM on the host 3.5

Using the data browser (or preferably Veeam FastSCP) store copies the virtual host 3.5 computer records to the 4.1 a

Save the virtual machines on the host 4.1 and light to ensure that they transferred ok before you wipe the host 5.5

Rebuild your webhost 3.5 with 4.1 and once done just reverse the procedure to bring virtual machines

This saves any expenditure and should work just fine. =)

Hope this helps

I have 9 machines (3 PC and 6 Mac) upgrade to monthly subscriptions - 8 of them are already on CS5... What is the best way to start this process?

    Hi Emily,.

To my knowledge, "Creative Cloud for teams" is appropriate for you. Also, if you use the product for a year then it is better if you buy an annual subscription in which only the commitment is for one year, but you will pay monthly-wise. Check this link for more details about Creative Cloud for teams below:

I have a specific situation.  I need to upgrade an AD 2003-2008r2.  We are not comfortable making the leap for 2012.  Basically, the original design was 5 offices of each with a domain controller.  Each domain controller has a file share, but also the "Users" folder  I thought up starting with the new servers side by side.  DCPromo the 2008r2 new servers to domain controllers.  What is the best method to move the file shares and files users in this case?  Once files are moved I can then DCPromo down servers 2003 and raise to the 2008 field.  All IP addresses are static throughout the environment.  He didn't design this way... but having to deal with it.

Looking for upgrade of systems 1200 xp to windows 7, as well as Windows 2000 1800 systems to windows 7.
Trying to figure out what would be the most cost effective and time efficient means to achieve this great task.

Your question is the best answer in the Windows IT Pro forum.

Tip: your Windows 2000 drives the system (if you plan to use them) will have their scores dropped and re-created / reformatted using Windows XP or a later version of Windows as the Windows 2000 NTFS version on existing hard drives are not compatible with Windows 7.

Spread also Windows 7 at a small group of users in a small Department / bussiness area, start with a business district who was worried that effect the daily functions of your company. Then work your way to the top.

A good bad example would be starting to start with payroll, accounts payable / receivable. A good place to start would be a small group of marketing which manages a low sale volumn or small range of products.

  • Best ways to backup free ESXi?

    Hello

I think to use the free version of the ESXi (4.0) for some production VMs, namely a file server, but my biggest concern is to make sure that they get saved correctly. I know with the paid version of vSphere, you get the best options of backup, but what are my options with the free version? I hope someone can answer these questions for me:

    (1) if I want to just manually copy the virtual files that make up the VMs system (VMDK, vmxs, etc.) to another location on the network, do I need to stop the virtual machines before I can do this? What happens if I copy during the race. He let me same? If I have these copies, and my ESXi host goes down, I should be able to put them on another ESXi host by adding to its inventory, correct?

    (2) I read on a tool called ghettoVCB, but documentation looked pretty scary. For someone new mV, it's something that I could easily set up, or that it will be a nightmare to make it work?

    (3) level backup of files what? I have backup exec, but it seems that if I need to buy the $3 k if virtual agent I want to use for the VMs backup. This may be a question for the Symantec forums, but backup exec will allow me to do just granular base backups of a virtual computer, agentless files? In other words, if I do not need to backup the VMDK, etc and just want to save the data of the company on the virtual file server as if I had to back up a physical box, can do this without the virtual backup exec agent?

    (4) ideally I think I would like to manually copy files VMFS from time to time to have an image of the operating system of the virtual machine, then do file level backups every night with backup exec. That sounds like a good plan, or is there a better way to do it? If so, any other ideas would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Josh

Take a snapshot, make the copy, and then remove the snapshot to save the VMDK.  Which freezes the entire file in time whereas it is copied (but does not stop the virtual machine).

Backups at level OS using BackupExec are very good.  "Bare metal" restore will be longer.

Manual copy of the VMs would be fine or use ghettoVCB as you read.  Don't forget to keep copies of your VMX files because these can become corrupted in certain situations.

  • Hi I have been looking at the PC and wondering what hp model is the best way to upgrade

I have reflected on some hp machines and do not find with decent food that would support sli or xfire are all hp machines that have a way of evolution?

coffee_man wrote: heck I like the hp machines, they are very good students for a dollar, I was hoping to find one that had a price level budget I could be upgraded later so I can play newer games...

Hello coffee_man, I know what you mean. Can you could find a company with a dual PCIe x 16 slot system and a higher power supply, but you must be prepared to pay a premium for one of these management systems.

Most of the OEM suppliers does not have one of these systems in the divisions of their house.

  • Best way to upgrade an application?

    Hello

    He is a newbie question.

We have created & started testing a new application. Then exported since dev env. and imported into the production env. Everything went well and the app works well.
The id of the application in production is different from dev.

We have now made the improvements made to the copy of development and are ready to deploy in the production env.
We need to upgrade the shared components and the application. Updates to the table are treated outside APEX.
I can see where to create scripts to upgrade, but I'm not sure what we have to go in them.
I saw in the forum where it looks like you can import into an existing application. The caution with which seems to be that the application ID must be the same.

Someone can direct me on how best to upgrade our shared components and the application.
    Thanks Nan

Which shared components are you referring to? Best bet since you have ID different app dev & prod is to export the app and components of dev and locking prod app and import new production...

  • Several Oracle_home (best way to upgrade)?

    Hi all

I was going to the below link and found this very cool thing that I didn't know.
    http://SearchOracle.TechTarget.com/Tip/0, 289483, sid41_gci1252556, 00.html? follow = NL-93 & ad = 587723 & EM_NLT_1354356 = asrc

    It goes something like this
    * My best favorite practice is that of multiple Oracle homes. Here it how it goes. When you apply a hotfix or a group of hotfixes, I do not recommend to apply to the existing House of Oracle. Instead, I suggest the creation of a new Oracle home and apply the patches it.

I create the first House of Oracle to the/app/oracle/db_1, for example. When a patch comes out, I have install Oracle together in a different House-/ app/oracle /-db_2, then apply the fix it. During the process of installation and application of the fix, the database is running, because he fled from home /db_1. When the window failure happens, all I have to do is stop Oracle; Replace Oracle Home db_2 and raise the database. If there is a problem, I can reset the Oracle Home back to the former.

    So, here's the classic approach:

    1. close the database
    2. apply the patch on the Oracle Home
    3. start the database
    4. in case of problems:
    5. close the database
    6 push the patch
    7. start the database

Steps 2 and 6 could take up to three hours depending on the amount of correction. The database is down during these periods.

    In the new approach:

    1. install the new Oracle Home
    2. apply the patch on the new House
    3. close the database
    4. change Oracle Home to the new location
    5. start the database
    6. in case of problems:
    7. close the database
8 change the old Oracle Home
    9 start the database

The database is down only for steps 4 and 8, which takes a few minutes at most, not heures.*

But my question comes here... first of all - is this possible? I don't know that it's because Arup Nanda, one of the guys know oracle wrote this article. So here is my Q?

1 - so if I get this right... If I want to spend to 11 g. e, my database is about 10 g.. all I need to do this, create a new 11g family... my 10g database stop... adjust my oracle_home to 11 g and put my database up... and its all updated?

2 - another thing that worries me, it's how it might behave in RAC environment. Any idea
on who? I know that CARS provide the upgrade of the bearing so that we could
no need for that. but would be nice to know how it performs... ANY IDEAS?

3 - also, I wonder how CRS and ASM House like this idea?

I think that my answer mentions the fixes and upgrades. Which scripts you run will vary according to the instructions of patch and upgrade and on levels/patches how you upgrade on the base. If you are upgrading to 9.2 to 11.1, you may need to run different scripts that if the patch is from 10.2 to 11.1. At the same time for minor 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.4 patches can impose conditions of different script.

You have also two different points of patching. Firstly when you generate the new home you may need to patch it for your current level and may need to test the installation before the upgrade with it. You will then need to patch the database when you switch using the new facility.

  • What is the best way to upgrade my boot drive?

My OS is El Capitan 10.11.1 - I use a mid-2010, build 5.1 MacPro and internal drive is the original. Rather than wait for my boot drive failure I thought go ahead and update. I bought a 4TB sister SIN to use as the new boot disk (OWC told me this NAS drive will work fine for a boot disk). I found the instructions - below seems simple enough. Is there a better way to go about this?

    > Save

install the new drive in the #2 slot, 3 or 4

    Format as journaled extended.

Stop completely, remove the new drive.

Remove Drive 1 and place it in a different location as #2

Put the new drive in the #1 Groove

Start holding down the Option key

    Select Recovery

Select the drive in the Groove #2 as a source

Select the drive in the #1 as the destination location

    Let it run.

    Thank you!

The latest trend (for example at the end of 2013 Mac Pro) is to use a minimum size but extremely quick boot disk, and then move your user files to other drives (such as a TB sister SIN 4 player). It was a good idea to time before Mac was released and inspired this article and its related articles:

Tip: Create a lean, fast boot disk

    --------

The second question has to do with the internal drives more than 2.2 to. If you use the CLEAR utility drive on this drive as an internal drive after 10.8.3 in any Mac OS X, it will set up a utility disk and logical volume group cannot erase or partition further. If you can only PARTITION, you will be fine.

Post back if you get stuck, as there are (somewhat complicated) ways around this issue.
