Best workflow of Mac to Pc (and back)

Hello

I intend to move to a workstation pc due to lack of updates by Apple to its pro range.

Thanks to some suggestions here on the forums, I understood that are improving the components to run CS6 on windows.

I don't have any recent experience with windows (the last time I had a pc was like 12 years ago), so here's my question: which is the workflow better done post-production on a PC and then return to edit away on a Mac?

In my case, most of the time I'm working with an editor that uses the first (and FCP7 for old projects) on a Mac, and we have a complete ProRes422 workflow from start to finish. We found good for size/performance/quality and we can stick to a single codec (without rendering) until we're done. Usually, it offers all the post production videos in prores422. Then, from After Effects (actually, I'm on a Mac Pro), I visited the sequences png or tiff for titles/graphic (usually with alpha) and prores422 for classified/composite shots.

I think I can continue to work with image sequences for the graph of the query or titles on a PC, but what format should I export when it comes to video (classified/composite images)?

If I understand what I've been reading around, I can import prores in windows but encodes out.

Work with Mac and Pc for production? If so, what is your workflow to edit post/finish between the two "worlds"?

Thank you

We have abandoned the Macs a long time ago (Finally, when Avid gave them the boot to be precise), but at least I can talk a little about the past experience file formats. The issue critical only I see is Gamma and color profile potential problems, you may need to unify between your Mac and your PC. Yet, even then, QT on PC is different from Mac. Here, I would avoid Quicktime when possible. At best, I would use the PNG or Animation CoDecs, but PNG sucks a bit on PC. If you use the lut and color profiles, TIFF sequences can be more effective - they can integrate color profiles and guaranteed consistent handling at both ends, if you use the CM formats. Desp profiels support are of course PSD or JPEG. PNG is so-so. It's okay as long as you don't use it on PC or Mac, but as soon as jump you from platforms, it will show color changes, depending on where it is used. It must be correct and consistent within the Adobe applications, however.

  • Best "workflow" for Sony A7sii and GH4 - Res Pro or DNxHD?

    Hi all

I'm filming a documentary of 90 minutes on a Sony A7sii like Cam 1 and a Panasonic GH4 camera 2. 23.97fps to 3840 x 2160. We need to have 4 k options for future use. We will very likely use a certain amount of purchased both action sequences. I am currently working on what happens to be the best workflow with final export to the spirit. I need to export the final movie in Res Pro Apple or DNxHD - and I'm trying to figure who is going to be the best from start to finish.

I'll be transcoding footage in function in order to make the workflow on the timeline as fluid and less tax on the processor as possible but also ensure final best made possible. I found that editing in the formats of native files (4 k) of each camera - even when the parameter/scaling to the size of the image - is very heavy on the processor and he staggers scouring or reading. So should I choose HQ or DNxHD pro.

Also - on this basis, should what sequence settings I use? Creating a sequence of the clip with a Res Pro first clip gives me preset film Arri. Seems the timeline without effort on playback and scrub.

    Thanks in advance!

ProRes 'was' standard in the Apple world, so became very common. DNxHD/R/HQ options are really become as well or better for most uses, it is just newer. On my PC, DNxHD cut almost as quickly as Cineform and a little faster than ProRes. They are sorta close... and is the guarantee of a your mileage MAY vary!

So do a few quick tests. A few hours transcoding in two or three choices, then to the same projects, applying the same effects (while taking note of reading), then export on and schedule exports will give you an answer for you.

  • Mac keeps restarting and is very slow running

Why not keep restart my mac and works very slow since I installed El Capitan?

Most likely because you upgraded an already dysfunctional system without the first fix. Or your HARD drive may be faulty.

Try these in order to test your system after each see if it is back to normal:

    1. a. reset the PRAM and NVRAM on your Mac.

    b. Macs with Intel processors: reset of the controller (SMC) system management

    2. restart the computer in Safe Mode, and then restart again, normally. If this does not help, then:

HD recovery start: restart the computer and after the buzzer, press on and press and hold the

COMMAND and R keys until it appears the Utilities menu screen.

3 fix the hard disk and permissions: select startup drive in the Utilities menu utility. Fix the hard drive and the permissions as follows.

When the recovery menu appears, select disk utility and press the continue button. After loading disk utility select it

back from Macintosh HD entry of the list on the left.  Click first aid button in the toolbar. Wait for the operation

ends, then quit disk utility and back to the main menu.

4 reinstall OS X: restart from HD recovery Select reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, then click on the continue button.

Note : You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest to use Ethernet if possible because it's three times faster than wireless.

When you get it working properly, and then download and reinstall OS X El Capitan 10.11.3 Combo Update.

  • CC not see update, even after logging out and back in

I applied successfully upgrades to Illustrator, InDesign, etc. this morning, but the creative cloud does not see the update of Photoshop. • Hi all. How can I manage the preferences that LR do not take up space on my MAC hard drive and works only on the external hard drive?

Hi all. I am new and on a free trial right now.

How can I manage the preferences that LR do not take up space on my MAC hard drive and works only on the external hard drive?

    Monthly payment included cloud storage?

Peut I manage backups? And how?

    -Amir

    Hi amireos,

Yes, you can create your workflow where you can keep all your images on the external hard drive and the Lightroom catalog file as well.

If you start with Lightroom and then use the Destination location as external hard drive when you import your image of the external source such as a camera or SD.

If you already have your Images on the Mac HD drive, then play all your Image on the external hard drive first and then import images directly from there.

Finally, you can change the location of the Lightroom Catalog as well.

Default location: folder on the Mac Drive HD, there is folder called Lightroom that you can move on the external drive too (however catalog Lightroom can't memory space as its only import previews of the images is not the real image and full)

Once you move the file catalog Lightroom external hard disk, then you need to browse the catalog file when you launch Lightroom only once.

See thread: LR catalog moving on external hard drive

Let us know if it helps.

    Kind regards

  • What is the best "workflow" for sharpening Ultimate w PSE 8?

I shoot a lot of flowers near upward and also birds. Both have lots of details, feathers or Stamen, so I rely heavily on the sharpening. With birds, sometimes they are flying or remote or both, which makes it difficult to get sharp photos. Recently, I learned a lot about sharpening and now I am suffering, "I know, more I know that I don't know." In addition, some of my information is based on rumor and I appreciate all the advice. What would you say if I discuss my work flow and ask a few questions here and there.

I shoot RAW with a Canon 7 d and I almost always reduce my photos to nnnn x 1080 for that conversation, lets assume that I always do this downsizing. I heard that reduced pictures should never be sharpened up to the once they are reduced. Is this true? Should I set all sliders sharpening in ACR to zero? Should I also keep the low clarity slider in ACR or is it more your contrast medium and less sharpening? Is there another way to improve the clarity in PSE, ACR not?

When I finished with the cab and open in the elements, the first thing I do is crop and resize using Image, resize, bicubic sharper. Then I correct the imperfections. Then, I select on the subject (s) and adjust the curves of colors and then light sharpening, which seems to give me the best results that Enhance-setting sharpness. (After two years of use of items I found this bright sharpness and it's so good. I wish I would have notice this Brundage in the earlier book. I did ask me what I'm missing.) After light sharpening should I try high-pass sharpening more or any other type of sharpening? Is there empirical rules on what kind of sharpening works best in which application? For example, I heard another rumor that sharpening of the strong or the shadows just increases noise. Is there a good way to handle these situations, as select out them, or use a special blending mode?

After I'm done with the subject, I usually reverse in the background and noise and/or blurr and Desaturate to puncture the subject.

Is Photoshop complete necessary to get the best sharpening tools or sharpening similar and other aspects are more powerful? I use so little of 8 items that I guess and hope that Photoshop or Lightroom would be overkill at this stage.

Thank you very much for this review! If you can think of anyway I could improve, I would really appreciate any comments.

    Doug

I'm a little worried about it:

    Using Image, resize, Bicubic Sharper

Is there a special reason why resampling belongs to your basic workflow? It is generally not something you want to do until you have to.

  • Best workflow (PAL) to convert interlaced to progressive DV HDV?

Question - what is the best workflow (PAL) to convert interlaced to progressive DV HDV?

Software: Pr, en and Ae - CS4 all.

My camera: (Sony Z1) shoots HDV 1080i.

When capture and editing, I keep all the HDV and intertwined.

    Premiere Pro:

    1. Capture HDV - mpeg 1440 x 1080 (1.3333)
    2. Sequence - HD 1440 x 1080 (1.3333) anamorphic 1080 (1.333) Upper Field First - (HDV Preset 1080i25)

Once editing is complete, I have dynamically link sequences in Encore.

Question - I dynamically link to yet or export the sequence of Pro?

If you're not a fan of dynamically link sequences and think export Premiere Pro sequences is the way forward, please advise best export settings.  I guess that in the export (from Pr) is to convert from interlaced to progressive HDV DV takes place?

At the present time, I dynamically link sequences in Encore.  This means handles even the gradual conversion of DV.

Question - what are the best settings for transcoding (yet) to transcode HDV 1080i25 to DV widescreen progressive?

I tried for many workflows, but for now, I was not 100% satisfied with any of them.

I find this a challenge to take HDV 1080i and produce a beautiful DVD IE minimum artifacts and interlace jitter.

I used to downconvert to DV in camera during the capture process, but I find that I get much better results by editing in HDV and downconverting during post.  That's what my post is really all about finding the best workflow for this.

I'd be very keen to learn how others are shooting and editing in HDV to then produce best-high quality DVD.

  • Is it possible to edit a DNG file in Photoshop and back to Lightroom?

    Hello

The title of the question probably explains well what I'm looking for...

I shot in RAW and then converted to DNG, I love DNG and I do not understand what so many people have against it, in any case that is not the point...

I know have as my digital negative DNG format instead of the original RAW file, and I'm starting to make some changes in Lightroom. But then I realized that Lightroom is not enough for something I want to do. For example, just today I got this photo that I needed to remove some people and I had to use clone/heal but as you know, Lightroom clone and heal features are not as flexible as those in Photoshop.

So now, I need to go into Photoshop, photo trouble and back to Lightroom and continue my editing. However, I couldn't find a way to do it how I wanted to do... What I did open up the original (unreleased) DNG in Photoshop, Adobe Camera Raw is displayed and I ignore it, remove the people from the photo and save it as a TIFF. Then, back in Lightroom, I open the new TIFF edited and copy the Lightroom settings from one photo (DNG) to another (the TIFF edited).

This workflow sucks and I know that there are a few options in Lightroom to automate it, but again, I don't think that would solve my problem. At least, I couldn't find a way to do...

What I wanted to do instead was indeed withdraw people from the photo with Photoshop, but without these changes in DNG. But take a note here that these changes could be very destructive, I don't speak of the non-destructive editing in ACR or Lightroom, the abductees would be gone forever unless I have to draw some new. I really want to edit and save changes to the DNG format in Photoshop and keep publishing the DNG in Lightroom without using a TIFF file in the meantime, do everything in DNG format.

Is it possible or not at all?

    Ricardo.Amaral wrote:

Sorry, can't do... Ain t going to happen.

What you have done is hit the wall is the fundamental difference between duty lite photo level and healing tone and color correction of the tasks (Lightroom and Camera Raw) and pixel heavy retouching in Photoshop.

When you manipulate a lot 'pixels' you need to Photoshop and you will be forced to make the raw file as a TIFF or PSD file or by Camera Raw or better, through Lightroom.

You can make the correction of tone and color base directly in Lightroom and edit in Photoshop from Lightroom. But you will NEED create and save an image that is "rendered" which is no longer thought... then retouch to your heart's desire, save it and it'll be available in the original long side of your own Lightroom, if you choose.

But no, there is no way to open a raw in Photoshop, manipulate the heck out of it with editing massive then save that réécrirait as a raw file... Ain t going to happen.

Hello, I am looking to buy a Mac Pro 2008 and had a few questions. 1. I found I can pass of say a 2 X 2.80 GHz 2 x 3.0 GHz CPU, but I looked up a few processors (from my MacBook Air i5 2013) and one very well like i5 Core 6600 k in guides and found compared to my only MacBook, it is barely faster , but compared to the 6600 k, is pretty lame. So I would like to know if I can put a more modern, faster CPU in the Mac Pro. 2.
