BIOS change upgrade to 16 GB of RAM

I am trying to install Crucial only 8 GB DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) CL11 SODIMM 204 pin Notebook Memory CT10246 1.35V/1.5V... in laptop HP Pavilion dv7 - 3183 cl. I have the latest version of the BIOS, but at startup, I get the BSOD. Various other forums noted that I might need to change the speed or the voltage in the BIOS, but I'm locked out. My laptop is an Intel processor and theoretically can support 8 GB modules. The HP Pavilion DV7 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service guide c02842278.pdf says:

Supports the following configurations:
● 16384 MB total system memory (8192 × 2)
12288 MB ● total system memory (8192 × 4096 + 1 × 1)

The number of spare folloing is supported in the form of installation: 634091-001: 8 GB (10600, DDR3 1333 MHz, for use only with models equipped with one computer
Intel processor)

According to the manual, I should be able to install up to 16 GB of memory.

1. I can?

2. the parameters of the BIOS maybe adjustible? for example can I have a copy of the unlocked bios?

3. If the timing is speed is really the question, should I return the current memory and get the slower, mentioned in the manual?

Thank you

Hi Victoria_V

The 8 GB is a physical limit, it cannot be spent because that is the maximum that supports the processor of your laptop.

You're not 100% good. The 32-bit Windows OS cannot use the entire 4 GB due to the limitation of the 32-bit operating system. After the installation of Vista SP1 will display full 4GB but it will still use only 3 GB.
To use all of the 4 GB, different components like CPU, BIOS, OS and chipset must support this. If one of these doesn't support 4GB while the laptop components will use only 3 GB.

    Update the BIOS

People are right. The update of the BIOS must help to recognize the 4 GB in the BIOS.
But it s also good that the update of the BIOS is risky.
If you want to use a bad BIOS or bad procedure to update the BIOS that can damage the ROM. module

    Hi KevinRy,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers site!

    Unplug all external devices.

Try to start in safe mode. If you can start in safe mode, and then do a system restore to restore the computer to an earlier point in time.

Change the recovery settings to disable automatic reboot, if you are able to boot up to the desktop computer:

    1.

Right-click my computerand then click Properties.

    2.

    Click the Advanced tab.

    3.

Under Startup and recovery, click settings to open the Startup and recovery dialog box.

    4.

Clear the automatically restart check box, and then click OK many times necessary.

    5.

Restart your computer so that the settings take effect.

Now, when you are going to close and a fatal error occurs, you will see at least and it won't cause an automatic restart.

Please reply back with the error message you get because it helps us to resolve the error.

    Kind regards

This book can be upgraded to 4 GB of RAM
In this case, you can use 2 x 2 GB RAM modules.

If you have only 2 GB of RAM you can add additional 1 GB RAM module as a RAM 1 GB module is already installed.
The side fornt buss (FSB) support 667 Mhz and as a result, you could choose a 667 Mhz 1 GB of RAM PA3512U-1M1G module

is it possible to change/upgrade GPU - Quadro K2100M of GTX 980 M in ws laptop Lenovo "ThinkPad W541' (20EFCTO1WW)?

I like the laptop, but the GPU portion is not for pc games, so iwould like to know weather is it physically possible to change this QuadroK2100M in the Lenovo ThinkPad W541 games GPU i.e. GTX 980 M?

    Thanks in advance!

The GPU is soldered to the motherboard, so he can't be replaced.

The K2100M should still work good for the games.

The 980M is also a map of 100 watts, while the K2100M is a map of 55 watts. There is no way the W541 can handle it, even if you can replace the GPU.

  • Inspiron 15 and Ubuntu 14.04: parameters of the BIOS change removes partion "ubuntu".

    Inspiron 15 3551

    BIOS Rev A00

    14.04 Ubuntu preinstalled by Dell.

My laptop is brand new. I went through the initial setup in 15 minutes approximately. This has worked well. I rebooted several times without problem. At this point, the boot options are (if I hit F12 at startup):

Tittle: Startup Mode is set to: UEFI with legacy OPROM: secure boot: off

    THE LEGACY OPTIONS:

    Hard drive

    UEFI OPTIONS:

    PEBOOT

    Ubuntu

    HDD1 - OS UEFI (TOSHIBA )

Please note that I never really used the start menu. I just use the default value.

After a few days, I tried to change how the function keys worked, so I restarted and is gone the BIOS, change this setting, then choose 'save changes and "Reset". Restarted the laptop, but couldn't find the good disk (or partition, or whatever - not sure of the exact terminology). A flashed on the screen error: couldn't open '\EFI\BOOT\fallback.efi': 14

Then the only choice I give myself is to boot from the recovery partition, forcing me to do a reinstall full - 15 minutes more loss of all data.

If I hit F12 at startup while the laptop is in this State, the boot options are as above, except lack the "ubuntu" option, as follows:

    THE LEGACY OPTIONS:

    Hard drive

    UEFI OPTIONS:

    PEBOOT

    HDD1 - OS UEFI (TOSHIBA )

I ran the ePSA assessment system, and it shows no problem.

This problem is reproducible. I've walked through the entire sequence 3 times.

So, what gives? How can I change the BIOS settings without losing my OS partition?

    Thank you

    Joel

Today I received my 3551 Dell with ubuntu.  I am facing a similar situation.  If inherited boot mode, then something happens to the boot process for the uefi firmware.  I'm trying to understand uefi starting the process as well as the Partion of EFI (ESP) system works.   A good place is-

    www.happyassassin.NET/2014/01/25/UEFI-boot-how-does-that-actually-work-then/

Once something bad happens recovery dell comes into play and reinstall everything.

Another problem that I face is that the process to create a recovery on a usb flash drive media fails. I used different usb pen drives but runs aground with each of them.  The recovery flash drive me would be useful if the computer is required to be returned to factory State.   Please inform your experience with it.  I wonder what partition used by the dell recovery program.

Also inform if drivers for Windows are hidden somewhere on the hard drive.

    Thank you.

    (2) card mother or other components are a problem

It is a machine for 3 years and older, can the CMOS battery cause me to not start? What does the beep System x many times to warn that. I hear no beeps and the CD wont open, so I know that there is a power problem. But the power supply has an outside light that truns when I plug in the power band.

You will appreciate a help about what my next steps should be to identify the problem.

    Thank you!

    NB.

    Naimy, welcome to the forum.

I think you may have a defective power supply unit (PSU).  Are the replaced component in a computer.  You can disconnect all unnecessary items, for example, hard drives, optical drives, USB devices, etc.  After these items are disconnected, try to start the computer.  Here's a guide to troubleshooting of the PSU.

If you need to replace the power supply, I like Corsair and OCZ.  I normally recommend at least 550W for peak power needs.  I suggest to measure the existing PSU and comparing them to the one you choose.

Mix strips memory manufacturers, type and bandwidth or density module often results in a no boot scenario. Replace the two modules or use a compatible module guaranteed from a well-known memory manufacturer.

    Hello

    ·        Have you tried to update the drivers for the graphics card?

You must install the drivers for its display, currently functioning in VGA mode, that after having installed the drivers you will be allowed to change the resolution.

Download the correct display, your computer's video card drivers.
