BlackBerry Smartphones Eception Exception: java.lang.NullPointerException

Hello

My BB 8220 flip has always had battery problems. Lately the battery dies after only 8 hours in standby mode. The last time he died was two days ago, and after four hours of charging it finally turned back on - only to have the error "untrapped Exception: java.lang.NullPointerException' on-screen display.»  I noticed that now, the call log does not work for incoming, outgoing and missed calls.  The SMS also mysteriously disappeared, so I am not able to send and receive texts.  My address book is still intact.  I did not so I don't have all the additional applications on the phone, just that it came with a data plan.  I tried to restart (remove battery) several times, but the error has not set itself.

Simple ways to correct this error, or is my phone forever?

Hi and welcome to the Forums!

Given your description, I would recommend a reload of the OS or upgrade. From a PC, you can install any bundle of BONES to a BB via this procedure:

Note that although written for "reload", it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or recharge - it depends on the OS package you download and install on your PC. You can even use a different OS package carriers simply insert, between steps 1 and 2, the deletion, on your PC, a file named PROVIDER. XML. remember that you remove from your PC, no matter what other packages devices OS BB as having more than one installed on the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.

If you are on a MAC, you are limited to only your sanctioned carriers OS packages... but can still use any level they currently have to sanction. See this procedure:

  • Smartphones from blackBerry 8350i eception exception java.lang.NullPointerException after hard reset

    basic information:

    8350i

    v4.6.1.204 (Platform 3.0.0.73)

    Desktop Manager 4.7

everything is good except that I was using two batteries, one in the phone and the other in a charger. When the battery is almost empty I swap with one charge naturally causing a hard reset.

This procedure worked well for at least a week or two, until last month when I swapped batteries - after the hard reset, I had

    Eception exception: java.lang.NullPointerException

I could make calls, but all other software were corrupted... practically nothing else worked... missing icons etc.

tried all kinds of solutions, but the only thing that fixed it was a full-on device software erase/recharging, then a restore of data since the previous backup. at the time, I thought it was just something random and was happy to learn how to do a full charge of the software.

then yesterday it happened again (even once, at the end of the security check immediately after the hard reset). now I'm afraid to swap batteries because it seems that every time I have hard reset it recharge a 10% chance (I guess) of corruption of software and a complete takes considerable time.

If anyone else has noticed this? does anyone have a solution?

can I change batteries without a hard reset; i.e. Exchange while that connected to the power supply? I have not tried this yet for fear of harming my BB.

    any help is appreciated,

    John d.

15 seconds is too short period of time.

It took at least a minute before returning the battery.

Error you reported is related to badly written in device memory operating data.

In most cases, helps to battery pull. But you must wait at least one minute before you put the battery on the device.

When you do battery pull make sure that this device is not connected to any external device or the wall charger.

In the event of battery pull does not help, I recommend to consider wiping the device memory.

I got an incoming call and I hit him either the top or to the bottom of the volume button to turn off the sound.  The ringtone to silence, then the unsilenced ringtone 1 second later.  Then I hit the top or to the bottom of the volume once again button, then he silenced and I received this error message:

    Eception exception: java.lang.NullPointerException

I clicked on OK and everything works fine.  Is there any solution for this and should I be worried?  I am running v4.7.1.40 (Platform 4.1.0.40).

HI and welcome to the Forums!

Untrapped exception happen - they are basically an event for which there is no program on the device to manage code. It's like a mistake on a computer--sometimes they straight. Future updates will probably help with some. A few things to check and try:

    (1) make sure you are on the latest OS for your business... you can check your carriers latest version certified through this Portal:

    http://NA.BlackBerry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp

    (2) a Hard Reboot:

Whenever random strange behaviors creep, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the hood back and remove the battery. Wait a minute, then replace the battery and cover. Power on and wait patiently through the long reboot - about 5 minutes. See if things return to functioning. Like all computing devices, BB suffers from memory leaks and others... with a hard reboot is the best remedy.

    (3) good memory management:

There are three types of potential memory on a BB: 1) application memory, the device memory) 2 and 3) Media/SD memory card

Application memory - it is the most important; It is protected (not available to the user), dedicated and (fixed size) space as the destination for the installation of applications (more a few storage applications, overhead and other costs). You can't touch AppMemory. You cannot improve the maximum AppMemory that your BB has. It is what it is. Applications can install only here... There is no other choice.

The device memory - it is space on your BB you can touch these files, images, media, etc. In general, it is not very big, but it is available.

Memory card SD/Media - is what it says... your SD card to store files, media, photos, etc.. It can be as large as your BB OS can support... see this KB:
    http://www.BlackBerry.com/BTSC/KB05461

On some devices/OS levels, enforcement and the memory of the device are combined into "free file"... This is, IMO, a little more difficult to administer that you can't see really how AppMemory you have. Nevertheless, here are some tips to use:
    http://www.BlackBerry.com/BTSC/KB15345
    http://www.BlackBerry.com/BTSC/KB14320
    http://www.BlackBerry.com/BTSC/KB14213

Finally, it is always important to correctly close applications when you are finished with them. Using the back or on the red button won't do that - those leave the app to decide what to do... and some let themselves memory-resident, consumes resources on your BB, slowing down the overall performance. Rather, to close an application, press the BBKey and select 'Farm' or 'Quit'... that forces the application to be closed, freeing for your new use the resources it consumed. Some applications will always be running (in general - BBMessenger, browser, homescreen, phone and Messages)... but, you should always close them properly - especially the browser... If we leave on a web page, it will not consume only additional resources, but the power of the battery as well.

    Good luck!

  • BlackBerry Smartphones Eception exception java.lang.illegalstateexception on a storm

Hello.  I have a storm 9530 and that you have installed several apps on the short time since then when I got it (~ 1 month ago).  When I restart or reset the phone, I get some error messages

    "Eception exception java.lang.illegalstateexception."

    The other is

    "illegal java script error '.

    What it means?
    What application is this?
How to track it down to fix it?

If it is not possible to say which application is the cause, how do I erase everything and start from scratch, so I can add 1 app at a time and see what app triggers errors?  I posted this question crackberry.com and blackberryforums.com but have not had someone answer which leads me to believe that they cannot be understood.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide me.

    Steve

I'll start the process and let you know if what I meet problems.  It will take me a few days because calls from the families, but will post when I can.

    Thank you once again.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones untrapped exception: java.lang.NullPointerException

Hello, I need help with my bb 9900, OS 7.1 package 1424 (v7.1.0428, platform 5.1.0338). Some of the apps repeat me this error, such as SMS, BBM and email. The other apps still work. This problem in passing when I deleted all messages from one of my email accounts. Once I deleted it, I made a stop down by pressing ctrl alt del, and when he came he did nothing so I reboot several times by removing the battery and it has started to respond after I realized that e-mail icons have disappeared. Now with the last restart, the BBM works apparently but with the e-mail account, I tried deleting and adding several times, but I can't see any icon email, only the general one, but when I try to open it does nothing, but I see that I have emails. Now, the BBM just gives me this error: eception exception: application net_rim_bb_qm_peer (320) does not. end process, and now the phone is freeze. I'll reboot again need help!

Hello and welcome to the community!

There is virtually no diagnosis of those - they are the equivalent of random errors in Windows for which trace the root cause is futile. Basically, here's the last out in the programming code - some event occurred for which there is no event handler in the code. The patch is an update of the code that handles the event... but, again, what is the event is almost impossible. So, there are a few things to try:

Sometimes, the code simply is damaged and needs to be updated - just like a reboot:

    • Each time a random strange behavior or slow creeps, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot.

If it doesn't boot properly, then you need to try Safe Mode:

    • KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in safe mode

There may be a code updated to the value of the carrier - check out them through this Portal:

The toughest possible causes are a bad application behave. To find it, there are two options. Is to see if you can read the log file:

Go to the home screen. Hold down the "alt" key and type "lglg". (You won't see anything as you type). This will bring up the log file. Scroll down (probably a lot of pages) until you see a line that says "eception execption. Click on this line. The application name will be in the info. Alternative methods to implement the newspapers are in this KB:

    • KB05349 How to activate, view, and extract the the event logs on a BlackBerry smartphone

The other method is to remove the apps one at a time, wait a while between the two (I usually recommend a week), until the problem stops... revealing the offending application. Yet another method is to recharge the BB OS itself, leaving little time between the addition of other applications on the BB in order to be able to determine exactly what is the cause.

Good luck and let us know!

  • BlackBerry smartphones ' Eception exception: java.lang.NoClassD efFoundError.

    Ok.

Go to Options > Advanced > Applications and highlight and delete AppWorld from your BlackBerry.

Perform a simple reboot on the BlackBerry this way: with smart BlackBerry poweredphone, remove the battery for a minute and then reinsert the battery to restart.

Using your BlackBerry browser, go to the www.blackberry.com/appworld and download & reinstall.

  • Smartphones blackBerry one other Exception: java.lang.NullPointerException uncaught

Hi all - I'm new here, so please accept my clumsiness.

My apologies to annoy everyone on this subject again; I have seen and read the thread where someone (of the Germany, like me) had the problem to constantly get the error Exception: java.lang.NullPointerException no message intercepted, but the proposed solution didn't solve it for me (or else, I was too stupid to understand). In addition, for some reason, the link given to improvements in T-Mobile does not work (I get the msg that it is an invalid URL).

    Some data:

    BB bold 9000 smartphone v4.6.0.126 (Platform 4.0.0.135)

    Carrier: T-Mobile

tried battery pull, several times in fact, and it makes no difference.

have you tried sms/email = separated under Messages, but only got the "untrapped" error message again.

The trick to reinstall the device OS sounds good, but how do I go about this? (* daft *)

I would be extremely grateful for the help; the at T-Mobile customer service said Friday (24) that technical support remember, but they have not yet and when I call them they just tell me to be patient, something which is becoming quite difficult.

    Thanks in advance everyone,

Follow the exact procedure, originally posted by Bumblepie

The software seems to be corrupted.

Make sure you have the latest version of the software for your device and your carrier installed on the computer.

Click here to get your carrier software - http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp

It's the device, software, not the Office Manager.

Download and double-click to install you're your computer. Don't connect the device again.

Once done, go to drive C: Program Files: common files: Research in Motion: App Loader and double-click on loader.exe.

Once the Welcome screen appears, plug the battery in and click Next. When you see the PIN number appear after maybe a few minutes press next.

Once he arrives at the device application part, select only things you need, uncheck all other languages, etc..

On the last page before you click on finish, you see an option "ADVANCED", click on this button and make sure that both check boxes are fixed.

    This will fix the problem.
