• Macbook Air trackpad and keyboard do not respond

  So, the trackpad and keyboard on my MacBook Air (13-inch mid-2013) died mid sentence the other day without discernible reason. No hits, no spill - just throw in the towel. I've had Macs fail before, but it is always due to a catastrophic incident of coffee or a drop of water. All other issues I've ever had, I was able to solve. I'm stumped on this one. Have not been able to find a solution here, so I thought I would post. (The first time poster, so apologies if I did badly.)

  I got a keyboard and a USB mouse and the machine still works perfectly. The only key that works on the built-in keyboard is the key to power. So I did the obvious things:

  -SMC reset

  -Reset the PRAM

  -Start

  Nothing.

  But then I tried a diagnostic test (restart while pressing D) and the trackpad and keyboard we are open! Diagnostic tests reported no problem, but then as soon as I connected from this screen... nothing new. But, as I said, with a USB keyboard/mouse, it works perfectly. I'm typing on it now. Also updated for OSX El Capitan 10.11.5, but there was no joy to be there either.

  So I took it to the Genius Bar and they told me, it would probably need a logic board replacement, but that seems not good not me since everything else works perfectly well. I'm running out of ideas, but I don't really want to leave still on it! Note that it is of course out of warranty too. If there is no simple solution, I am open to get inside.

  I'm sorry to say, all signs from your description point to a number of logic board. Without a guaranteed protection or apple, it will cost a little more. Unless you are ready to use a USB keyboard or wireless and a mouse, there is a hardware malfunction that prevents keyboard and mouse operation.   As far as I know, an update of windows was held last night. When I try to log on to my office (gateway), my keyboard and mouse (Logitech M310 K520) do not work. I tried to connect in safe mode, but still no luck. I can press F8 before it connects to enter advanced startup options. I went in the selection 'repair your computer', and my mouse and keyboard work fine. I tried a system restore, run the Diagnostics, memory windows and tried several reboots, but without any difficulty. I have tried other mice, tried different USB slots, but all have the same problems. They work very well until what the login screen and then do not respond.

  Please let me know what are my options to resolve this problem. Would like to try more things on my own first of all, but I'm a bit of a novice in computer science.

  S rally strange because I put t see a link between the firmware CD/DVD, UpperFilters and LowerFilters and the keyboard and mouse.

  This is first time that a removal of the upper and lower filters would undermine the functionality of keyboard and mouse. Which is really strange.

  Anyway, you are able to access the BIOS? If this isn't the case, then this is not good.

  First of all, you should try to save the data stored on the HARD disk in this case, I recommend to remove the laptop HARD drive and connect it using a USB HDD on another controller.
  This would allow you to save the data to another HARD disk.

  Put the removed HARD disk in Notepad, and then try to reinstall the OS from the Toshiba restore CD.
  I hope that this will be possible because I don't see another way to get the operating system again.

  Remove the battery while your phone is on, then replace it. Then restart your wireless router.

  Try these two steps and post back with your results.
