Book cover design (printed)

Hello

I'm new in InDesign, if I have some experience with Illustrator and Photoshop, so the menus and toolbars are familiar.

I tried to find a tutorial that will teach me how to set up a book cover. I want to talk about the basic layout only. For example, I can create a work plan for the front, one for the back and one for the backbone. I can provision each and bring exactly as I want it, but I can't understand how to create a work plan unique where I have it all together and can easily adjust the spine to adapt to changes in the number of pages.

Can someone tell me how to or point me to a tutorial where I can get the Info?

Thank you.

Chris

    Hello

I want to use Adobe Stock Images to create a book cover. I have a few questions that I can't find the answers to:

    1. purchase of a standard license enough? The license terms and Conditions page indicates that the standard license can be used for books (which is listed in the examples) and that it can be used for printouts, but he says that it cannot be used for printing on demand services. I publishes paperback books through CreateSpace, which is printed on request. This makes me think that I need an extended license. Is the same true for the covers of Kindle books?

    2. If I choose a subscription package instead of buying photos individually, this license they come with? Standard or extended? Basically, what I want to know is if extended Licenses are always going to be $80 regardless of whether or not you have a subscription package.

    Thank you

    Ann

1: for a book cover, you are fine with the Standard license to a distribution of 500,000 copies if the image is used on the cover. The big difference b a book cover and print on demand merchandise is the cover of the book is not the main value of the book. Printing on merchandise request or whatever, the picture is the reason to buy.

2: all the extended licenses start at $79.99 without worrying if you have a subscription or not.

  • I can't load up a book cover of my images for a web site request form

I can't load up a book cover of my images for a web site request form. Is there a method to do this?

    Hello

This can depend on the configuration of the web site form. If can accept only text, may have a limit on the maximum characters lol, etc. Some Web site forms do not accept entries stuck, just live by typing.

I suggest you contact the website for advice.

  • Adobe Stock photo as book cover

I need a picture for the cover of my book, a standard license would be enough? In addition, then edit photos legally?

    Yes and Yes.

You can change the image anyway, as long as it doesn't show any pattern to the image the wrong way.

You can use the image on a book cover in a cast up to 500,000 copies.

  • Someone help with the export of a book cover of three pages on a single page for CreateSpace?

    Hello

Can someone help me to export a book cover of three pages in PDF single page InDesign? It has exported to PDF in three separate pages, probably because I created my document in the form of three pages originally .indd. I tried to load the PDF for CreateSpace but he rejects it as he wants as a page.

I really hope this is easily fixed as I can't bear the thought of go everywhere.

I would be very grateful for a quick answer because I'm going on vacation in 48 hours...

    Thank you

    Sean

PS - Thanks to Peter Spier for answering a previous question a few weeks; For some reason, I couldn't answer (say thank you). 'No available actions' was the message, or something in that sense.

Is it set up as a page three in the ID? If so, check the double option during export.

  • How to add my codes to bars to my pdf book cover?

    Hey everybody,

I have a bar code that I need to add to my pdf book cover to download on the Publisher, but I don't know how to add code to bars to coverage in Adobe Acrobat format. The bar code was bought from Bowker and I have two types of files (eps and pdf). Can someone provide instructions step by step how to add the barcode of the Ang eps to the cover of the book?

    Thank you

    Elizabeth

    See https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1677372

But you don't mention that you also had the barcode to PDF (if I understand your description).

    1. Open the code barcode to PDF in Acrobat
    2. Change | Copy the file to the Clipboard
    3. Open the bookcover PDF in Acrobat
    4. Change | Dough
    5. move the barcode stuck to the desired position
    6. You can also change the size by using the blue corner of the surroundings points
  • CS5 - transform a Document into a book in-Design

I have a document from Page 160 + I need the numbered pages.  However, even if I have automatic numbering turned on, it won't have their number.  I came to the conclusion that there must be a book, not a Document for the pages of issue...

How to make my document page 160 + filled into a 'book' In Design CS 5?  PLEEEEEASE tell me I don't have to start all over again?

Once I do and the auto number pages, I don't want a number on my page so I guess I picked start numbering at Page 2?

Also, I have several pages in the 'book' which are full page ads.  How can I do so a number doesn't apear on the ads or I can't do that?

    Thank you!

    Bob

You don't even need to make a book. You have to put a current "Number of Page" marker in a block of text to the master page where you want the number is displayed on your pages. For these page you don't want not numbered yyou can do another master without number (based on the other, if everything must be the same) or the use of the [none] master.

To start page 1, somewhere inside the document (and it should be a right-hand page), select the page you want in the Pages panel and choose numbering and Section Options from the Panel menu. Start a new section and define the numbering starts at 1. ID complain you alread have a page 1, so say OK and select the first page of the document in the Panel and return to the numbering options. Change the numbering style for what you want (lowercase numerals are traditional for the preliminary pages, I use A, B, C for covers) and're you good to go.

  • Inside cover Design

I'm designing a card that will bleed; half left will serve as the inside cover front and half right as the inside cover back. Overlap the two halves by inches a torque between the front and the rear.

Inside each cover through the fold or Groove where the lid closes. I know the length of a book page, BUT double their width as a two page spread may not counting the fold or crease down the middle. Is this correct?

Adds the width of the fold or crease in the width of the double page something I can determine (is this standard, regardless of the thickness of the book)? Or is it just something the printer can and must tell me?

Never heard of a separate mandate for the fold.

All you have to do is decide if you want the same or different work on the front and back pages and produce flat work equivalent to a double page of the book filled with page size and include brands (and the bars of color if it is CMYK). And to discuss the stock, you can choose to print on your printer/bookbinder.

  • 2 questions: Licensing an image for a book cover

I found an image Adobe Stock I want to use on the cover of my book. Two questions: 1) is - should I buy an extended license through eu.fotolia.com because Adobe doesn't offer licenses? (2) article 3.1(b) of the States Adobe terms of additional Stocks (General Restrictions) that I can't "share the work with another person or entity. Does this mean that I can not send the image to the person or the company I hired to design the copy of my book? Please specify. Thanks for your help.

    Hello

    - Can Adobe Stock Photos be used for book covers?

As a general rule, you can use an image Adobe Stock for the cover of your book. There are a few exceptions. The image cannot provide the main value of the book. In most cases, the cover is simply decorative with the contents of the book providing the value of the primary. Another thing to keep in mind is that the use of the image may be perceived as offensive by a model presented in the image. No romance, hot, content policy, etc. The draw of the limit is 500,000 if you should buy an additional license if you exceed sales 500 000. As always, don't forget to consult the license agreement for more information on the permitted use and if you are still unsure, it may be in your best interest to get legal advisers to revise the agreement in your name as well.

Please also check 2.3 employee and contractor use

  • Create a CD next to the cover and printing

Hey guys. Not sure if I'm in the right place to ask this question, but I'm having problems with my CD Cover printing. I initially created it in Photoshop, and then when I printed, the result was very poor quality. Is this something to do with the software I am using (Photoshop) or my printer/printer settings? Maybe I should use Illustrator rather conceive my CD Cover? Any help would be appreciated please. The printer I use is a Lexmark X 4650.

    Thank you.

    You're welcome, SASavva.

  • Creating a book in design - want to separate chapters - Halp...

Hi all, I'm quite new in indesign, but have some experience with print layout after a little before using Pagemaker.

I'm carrying a book and I have the manuscript all ready to go, but I need to make sure all my chapters are separate.

Previously, when the design of a book in Pagemaker, I would be split chapters by autoflow and object text them, repeat - or I'd just have the autoflowed whole book throughout the entire document. It is likely that there is a better way to manage this same when I used Pagemaker, but I usually work within the constraints that force me to do what I can, but I digress. My problem is that when I was making even minor changes to the book he would really shake things later in the document (has the butterfly effect). So a small space on page 3 could push something to the wide path on page 253.

What I want, and what would make sense for me, would be a method in which I can arrange chapters and all of their text and style in separate sections. If I change something in the document chapter, it would be automatically and correctly adjust the appropriate amount of space on the following chapters. So just finishing my book, I could just compile all my chapters and export them to the printer.

TLDR: Someone tell me how to handle the chapters separately (including styles, right and space pages.)

Thanks in advance for your time.

Save each chapter a separate InDesign file. Use file > New > book to create a book file and add the chapters of the book. You can synchronize (or sync) the styles and the nuances between the chapters. You can pages AutoNumber so that when Chapter 1 increases 1 page, all the chapters that follow start a page later. This can be difficult, especially when you add an odd number of pages, because the pages changing the same weird also change right left and lead to surprises. You can turn off automatic numbering or you can force chapters to start on odd or even pages, so that the addition of 1 page in Chapter 2 moves all the chapters that follow two pages.

  • Photoshop - how to make a book cover?

    Hi guys!

I need someone to point me in the right direction for a tutorial or something my dad is currently writing a book and they want me to make her a cover in Photoshop. We tried a few and they were all pretty good, but I was just wondering how to do this kind of cover - https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=mark+dawson+cover & hl = in & biw = 1600 & bih = 775 & source = lnms tbm = isch & his = X & ved = 0ahUKEwicl827yL... I know for a fact that the silhouette of the cover is a photo, but how they give the impression that it is standing on a path? In addition, how did get this yellowish effect? If someone can give me a project file, tutorial or advice themselves it would be awesome!

    Thank you!

You mean the ranking of the silhouette on the street? Looks like just a matter of placement, resizing and painting may be a shadow. (If the silhouette itself had no transparency layer mask or background, you will need to make a mask so he can isolated for composition purposes.)

Yellow looks like a wash, usually done by adding an adjustment layer of slope of color blend mode (gradient would probably be transparent yellow).
