Book InDesign always wants to "save under" when it is closed. Work is lost.

Hello

We work with Indesign and Windows 7 Professional, all files are available for each of us on our server. For the first time now, we create our 280 page catalog as a file indb including 12 chapters (indd documents).

I assumed, that all of us (there are three of us) can work in different chapters at the same time. Have I been wrong?

How we work:

We open the indb file simultaneously, and then open the different chapters at the same time (via the directory, without double click in Solution Explorer).

When we close a chapter, we save the indd. file. No problems so far.

But when one closes the indb file so Indesign says 'someone changed the book once you have opened it. Sure you crush? "and she wants to" save under ", not just"Save ".

Problem:

So far, we clicked on "Yes, please overwrite the book." "What should happen to the indd files during the recording of the book" we thought.

But soon, we recognized, that sometimes the things we changed in the chapters (such as dimensions, photos, illustrations, text) seem to have disappeared. But this isn't all the work, which has been lost. Just a few things. It's so mysterious.

That make us hurt?

Is it wrong to open the book at the same time?

Will we open chapters in via double click Solution Explorer to open the book?

Please help, we have the catalogue to be completed by next week. :-(

Hello

I wouldn't recommend trying to open the book file simultaneously. But then - a book file is just a simple container document and can be recreated very quickly. I open the chapters independently of the book and just to bring together them in a document of a book at the end.

Kind regards

Malcolm

  • Is there a way to change where InDesign CC2015 registers a "save under" by default?

Is there a way to change InDesign CC2015 where a "save under" by default? In previous versions, if I did a "save under" document, it automatically chose the same folder the same in that original document was. It makes sense, especially if you save a version update of a file. In CC2015, it automatically records the last folder you did a "save under", which can be very annoying, requiring either a series of extra clicks, or scratching your head and trying to figure out where your paper was on his next, you try to open it.

Nothing has changed. If the file previously recorded in CC 2015, the dialog box will default to the place where currently the folder. Otherwise, the first save as is considered to be a new file in the same and will default to the last place one record under took place.

    Hi douglash21414001,

I think maybe it's a coincidence, that nothing is installed with ExportPDF, so nothing should have changed your web browser. That said, you can clear the cache of the browser and then re-open your browser. (What browser do you use?)

You can also try to restart your computer, if the browser is restarted does not solve the problem. But still, I don't think that this problem is related to the ExportPDF.

Please let us know how it goes.

  • Why Adobe PDF opens the dialog "save under" when you simply save a file

When I make changes to a file and close (or just press 'Ctrl + S'), rather than overwrite the current file with the one Adobe PDF, newly edited now opens the dialog "save under" and I have to navigate to the folder that I need. Why does it replaces the file, as it used to? This behavior can be fixed?

Re: the various save dialog box, try this: go to the menu, then Preferences, then click the general tab, on the left. On the right, uncheck the radio button 'Show online storage in check'. Press OK in the Preferences dialog box, and then try to save again. Now, the platform save dialog box must be indicated directly.

For the other issue you reported (Save as are save under), you can tell us:

1 do you have permissions to modify the file. On OS X, if the file is locked or is the file "belong" to another user?

  • Why all my scans want to save under the same name of the old file?

Whenever I'm doing a scan, he invites me to save the scan to an old file that I used several months ago!

How can I get rid of this file name and replace it with the word "scan" as it did when I first came to this printer?

Hi joanne322 and welcome to the HP Forum,.

I understand that you do not want to change your default scan file name. I'll try my best to guide you in this.

If you have not created your new analysis file, please create one.

If you have the old Solution Center follow these instructions: click on Scan - click on change settings - click on save to save the file Options - go to the save location and click Browse and locate your new analysis file and click - click OK

If you have the latest version of the wizard of the printer, follow these instructions: click on scan a Document or a Photo - click advance settings - click the Destination tab - go to the save location and click Browse and locate your new analysis file and click - click OK

If it does not you could please send me your model number so that I can better guide you.

I hope this information can help, let me know how it goes.

    Thank you

  • I'm unable to "save under" when you work on an existing PDF file - how to fix this?

I have an existing pdf and make a change, acrobat doesn't let me do a backup to give the file a new name or save it to a new location. I've just updated to DC on a new computer with Yosemite. Any ideas how to operate?

    Hi joannk,

The default "Save as" dialog Acrobat DC is different from the dialogue box you had in earlier versions of Acrobat, it also allows you to record in the clouds and previous locations that you saved the files. It is possible that when Acrobat tries to connect to the 'cloud', it runs into problems. You can try to disable this feature to see if this brings your backup in the back of the box: open Acrobat Preferences, then go to the "General" category and uncheck "show the online storage when you save files:

    Options > general downloads section

    • If 'Always ask me where to save files' is selected, the user can choose the location and change the name of the saved file.

Not related to your question, but...

You may need to update some plug-ins. Check your plug-ins and update if necessary:

  • How can I replace the mime types of server, always get the mp3, rar, sid, bin files directly in the dialog box "where do you want to save this file?"

I used to be able to click on MP3 files, the way back when, and Firefox asks where I wanted to save. Nowadays, it opens a new tab with a flash drive.
By clicking on the "unknown" files, like .sid, .prg, .zip, .rar is ' this is a BIN file. [Cancel] [Save] ». It does not give me a check box for "always do this".
I would like that option to edit so that certain types of files, such as PDF, regardless of mimetype, always get opened in a new tab if you click. Also some types of files, based on the extension, always go directly to the dialog box "Where you want to save the file?", without worrying if there is a viewer or a builtin player or not. In my Firefox (41.0.1 14.04LTS 32-bit Ubuntu) I have never the choice "do this for these files always" more.
Googling led me to delete my file mimeTypes.rdf and since file extensions can even "well known", such as .zip, are treated as BIN files and I get the box Cancel-or-Save for those too - again without the choice of "always save the BIN files.

    These files are send as Content-Type: application/octet-stream and Content-Disposition: attachment;
To send files in this way, you cannot save an automatic action.
You can see that in network monitor.

    Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="TURRICAN_AMIGA_PORT.sid";
    Content-Type: application/octet-stream

  • Downloading a file, application/octet-stream mime type, I always get the dialog box "do you want to save to save this file?" Cancel or save.

A number of us use a private site where run us an application in offline mode. The application offers a download button so that we can take a snapshot of our progress in offline mode, a sort of backup. When we'll be back online you can either download the information from the application or we can load the backup files.

The problem is that every time we hit the download button, we always get the additional dialog box asking if we want to save or cancel the download of the file. It may sound a little silly, but we really do not want to have to move the mouse to the new dialog box and click on the "Save" button.

The mime type of the file is application/octet-stream, there is no file extension.

Is there a way to change the configuration of Firefox so that this dialog box does not appear?

    Thank you.

My apologies, but I deleted all system information collected automatically because I am not in a position to submit this application for machines where the problem occurs.

    These system are:
    14:04.3 Ubuntu LTS
    Firefox 40.0.3

Content of type "application/octet-stream" will cause always Firefox show the 'open with' Download dialogue.
To avoid this download, you must configure the server to send another type of content and possibly change the file extension.

  • Will be "save under" always return to a file is stored in the original folder?

    * I realize that I'm in the wrong group of the operating system that I am referencing. I have re-posted my question in the Windows 7 group.* *.

Hi - I'm not sure if I have the right group, but it is more of a global, more application-specific question.

I open a file and want to save it as something else. By default, when I choose "Save as", the folder that opens in the dialog box is the folder where the original file has been kept. Is this the 'normal' behavior can always be expected?
For example, I changed my file location by default for anything other than My Documents - so when I save a new file, save it as a dialog box opens in the folder that I prefer.
Is there a way to change save them as option to always go in this specific case, no matter where a file had been stored previously?
    Thank you!
    Tammy

This is how the programs work, but it is not absolute.  Each program will decide what happens separately.  Remember the last used folder for any session (reset if you completely exit the program) while others will use by default to each time.  Others remember even if you completely stop the program.

  • "Save under" screen comes up when trying to print

Sometimes (but not always) when I try to print from the web or from an E-Mail, I can't print.  When I type Ctrl + P a screen "save under" appears instead of the screenshot.  I can't print from the screen "save under".  What needs to be changed?

    Jim G-city

The default printer is probably on XPS Writer or PDF Writer, instead of your normal printer.

Click on: Start-> Control Panel-> devices and printers

then right-click on your regular printer and set it as default printer.
