Book to learn AS3

Could someone tell me the book that teaches you ActionScript 3 for Adobe Flash CS5?

Is it the one- http://www.adobepress.com/Bookstore/product.asp?ISBN=0321704479

I also want to learn AS1 and AS2...

Thank you

Dylan

Hello.

If this book is good or not all depends on your personal data

taste.

Some like the books crammed with small examples followed by a

short and to the point explanation.

Some goes for books, which takes you through the entire process

to build a single project.

Try to search using amazon.com: for example: "Flash Actionscript 3.

Many books has ratings and reviews...

I also want to learn AS1 and AS2...

We all don't?. Do not overload you guy.

There is a fine line between "fun and exciting" and "donkey and mind-numbing work '...

Good luck and have fun.

Best regards

Peter

  • Books to learn the logic

    Greetings,

    As a beginner of logic, I'm not find logic "Helps" to be very useful.  So, I am looking to buy a book that might be more useful.  I found a few on Amazon, all very expensive, so I would like to be sure I understand.  So I hope I could meet someone on this forum who has read several, or at least one, various books (Rothermich, Nahmani, Merton, Bustelo, Cousins, etc.).  and could you tell me which would best meet my needs.

    Here's what I want to learn:

    1. how to record audio instruments ('true') - voice, guitar, etc.  (In fact, I can do this already.)

    2. how to record several takes and overdubs more easily and more efficiently (once again, real instruments).

    3. how to compile ("comp") elements of various takes one shot more easily and more efficiently.

    4. how to mix in logic, including using the software provided for the compression, EQ, and reverb.

    5. how to manage the GUI - everything seems counterintuitive, user unfriendly and weird - I'm trying to reduce the width of a track or take and it's the contrary or if it changes the width of the other takes or titles I want to change.  And since Apple went to the practice extremely rude to use symbols instead of words for everything, something that defines it as all of the weird symbols.

    That's all.

    I'm not interested to learn how use the MIDI or record virtual instruments, at least not yet.  Want to just record real instruments and mix for demos at this stage.  Books where half of the pages are about saving virtual instruments are a waste of money for me.

    I know that some people prefer video books, but I prefer books.  I find embarrassing internet videos.

    Thanks for the help.

    I like this statement.

    I must say at the outset that I am a little biased to recommend books of logic, because I am one of the authors you mentioned (Edgar Rothermich), but at least I fit your profile, because I have read all the book. If you do the research, you will find that I am using a different approach which is based on explaining and illustrating the logic with a lot of graphics and diagrams instead of just the text only with the occasional screen capture. That's why I called my book series "graphically improved manuals.

    My books are available in PDF (more affordable), iBooks files and printed books. You can use the "Search inside" feature on Amazon to look at my books and you will see immediately what makes them unique compared to other publications. I would also advice to download a workbook of samples of the iBook from Apple Store to check the format of my books iBooks (all my books have versions of free sample book). These Enhanced iBooks are interactive multi touch iBooks (readable on iPhone, iPad, but also on your computer). They have a glossary of 500 + word with all of the terms that you should know in logic, and they all have a hyperlink in the book, so you can just tab on a Word and a small window with the entry of the glossary appears (with graphics). So, no more navigation back, at your own pace of learning.

    You will find all the links on my website http://DingDingMusic.com/GEM

    On the MIDI features. All the books of logic will cover the audio and MIDI functions because that's what makes logic. However, the logic is so deep and rich in features you will find a lot of things you haven't (yet). However, the important part is the Foundation and understanding of the application with GUI and its concept so you can find your way around. I think that my books will be the best to help you accomplish, they understand even a lot of additional information (audio production, OSX) that are needed to better understand some logic and workflow architecture.

    And finally and most importantly, if you buy a book for a software application, you want to book that is based on the current version. There is nothing more boring to learn the features of a book that has changed in the meantime, or other important features that are not even mentioned. With each update Logic adds tons of new features and changes much features and workflows. My logic books are the only ones (not to mention as the User Guide) that are based on Logic Pro X 10.2. All other books are based on older versions. < / BiasedAdvice >

    Hope that helps

  • Advice on books for learning CS3 Master Collection

    I tried to learn as much as I can of tutorials and just concepts from around the web.  I understand that I will, but think a book or two could help me as well?  I have several sites that I visit from time to time, I don't need help on that front.  Can someone give me some advice on what I should buy the literature?  I have the CS3 Master collection, and I hope to learn Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Dreamweaver and perhaps other programs related to web design.  I heard that the bible series is quite good, but since I'm still considered new I don't really know where to start.  And do not know if this is the place to ask, but as much web design is concerned, I also get a book for coding?

    Sorry if this is a topic that is requested every five seconds, but I looked around, as much as I could and it was literally my last option.  And in case anyone was wondering, I ask in this forum, because whenever I go in one program I usually end up in Photoshop, so I guess that those who know Photoshop, know as some of the other programs, also I don't really see a forum better suited to my question.  Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

    You'd better to buy individual books for each application.

    Some books try to have an overview of several different applications, but they only give the strict amount of information about each of them and are basically useless.

    Books like the Bible of series are extremely large (Photoshop CS3 more than 1,200 pages), but do not assume that more is automatically better.

    I think they do, some of them just to impress people looking for a book of instruction at their local bookstore.

    The Bible and a few other books include a picture CD and give instructions step by step using the provided images.

    But they do not really explain how procedures work and why you would probably using this procedure rather than another.

    They said basically that, now this, something else, etc.

    The series by Peachpit Press Quick Start Guide distributed with the intructions of step by step hand holding.

    He explains how and why to do things and has screenshots on every page to display menus and tools, as well as the de facto procedures using Photoshop.

    Only Quick Start books give complete information and are usually much more affordable, which is useful if you buy several books for different applications.

    Peachpit Press has also another series of books, their series of real world. These are bigger books but without the CD, etc.

    Over the past 20 years, I had a lot of different books, but in my opinion, Peachpit Books are the best of the bunch. Your mileage may vary.

    CS3 is old enough, I guess you're looking at Amazon or other sellers online. You might even be able to get a reduced price used books through Amazon resellers.

    Good luck.

  • Newbie need help to start to learn AS3, help please. ?

    I am very interested to learn action script 3. so please can someone help me

    to start with an excellent material or something you think.

    Thank you.

    Try this site: http://active.tutsplus.com/tag/basix/ it would be a good start for Flash with AS3. The site has also other tutorials for intermediate and advanced levels.

  • I want to learn AS3 compared to AS2 starting with a getURL btn

    Hello

    I tried a free online tutorial and my tutor was as usual a little incoherent!

    So with that I hope that a forum based with out learning - curve her head banging.

    Which equals this btn getURL btn AS2 function please?

    {We (Release)}
    getURL ("mainFrame1.html", "mainFrame");
    }

    It's just a script that I use for Dreamweaver frameset. I know from the tutorial AS2 AS3 equivalent will be longer and probably assigned to the frame on the btn's and not the btn.

    So I leave this place tender of the statement in the hope of sober enlightenment.

    Sabby76

    Don't raise your hopes on what is a place of education.  It is more a place to get help to fix issues where you can view the code that is troubling you.  That said, there are some things that come back often enough to justify a small copy and paste...

    Assume that you create a button symbol.  Since this is a button, it is already a car animation object that will react to mouse interactions, but only visually at this stage.  The first thing you need to do to make it useful down must assign a unique instance name.  If you drag a copy of it on the stage of the library, and while it is still selected, enter you this unique instance for her name in the Panel properties... say you name "btn1.

    In AS3, to make a button with the code, you must add a listener of events and event handler for it function.  You may need to add a little (for different events, like reversal, deployment, by clicking on it, but for now let's just say you want to be able to click them to get a web page.)  In the scenario that contains this button, a layer of separate actions that you create in a similar framework where this button exists, numbered, you must add the event listener:

    Btn1.addEventListener (MouseEvent.CLICK, btn1Click);

    The name of the unique function for the treatment, the click of this button is specified at the end of the assignment of event listener, so now you just have to write this function:

    function btn1Click(evt:MouseEvent):void {}

    var url: String = "http://www.awebsite.com/awebpage.html";

    var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest (url);

    navigateToURL (req);

    }

  • Need help coding Coloring Book App in AS3

    Hello

    I'm working on a project for school and I'm having a lot of trouble at the moment. I can't figure out exactly how to start coding for a coloring book type app. I read through about 6 different tutorials for this type of project, and can't seem to get anything to work for me.

    I drew the outline of the image, I want to be colorable and converted the outline into a symbol. I also have each separated colorable, it's own symbol as well. In total, I have 67 different colorable areas + contour. I've created a palette of colors for the user to select institutions.

    When it comes to coding for all this work, I'm completely lost. If someone could help me get started and point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it!

    If your object has already a colorTransform assigned, you can use its color property to access the colors of the object.  otherwise, you must use the bitmapdata class (first of all the draw method to create a bitmapdata example using your object then getPixel and getPixel32).

  • Which book is good to learn the fundamentals of SQL?

    Hello world

    I am preparing for the exam-1Z0-051 (Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I).

    I want to know which of the two works is best for the preparation and covers each topic in great depth.
    1 oracle Database 11 g SQL by Jason Price
    2 oracle Database 11 g the complete reference by Kevin Loney

    I have no prior experience in SQL. Your advice will be appreciated.

    Hello

    Here is a book that got good reviews:

    Oracle SQL By Example (4th Edition)
    Alice Rischert, 2009
    Publisher is Prentice-Hall.
    ISBN-10: 0137142838
    ISBN-13: 978-0137142835

    Unfortunately, I don't have a copy, so this 'recommendation' is hearsay. It is very well regarded. Personally, I like to learn by example.

    The remaining books I mentioned are not specific Oracle (which, depending on your point of view, could be a good thing)

    I use the following book to learn SQL:

    SQL Cookbook
    By Anthony Molinaro
    Publisher: O'Reilly
    Pub Date: December 2005
    Print ISBN-10: 0-596-00976-3
    Print ISBN-13: 978-0-59-600976-2

    I recommend this book with some reservations. In most of the solutions he gives he relies on totally artificial relationships in the data (relying on anything other than forced relationships in the data is a very bad thing to do!). If you study the way I do then, these bad solutions are actually a good thing, reworking poor solutions into something that is worthy of the production is a great exercise. Finally, if you have decided to learn by using this book, you will need to read the Oracle manuals for complete information (good thing to do anyway.)

    I also used

    The Practical SQL Handbook
    By Judy S. Bowman, Sandra L. Emerson and Marcy Darnovsky
    Publisher: Addison Wesley Publishing
    ISBN: 0-201-62623-3

    I consider this book a very good book. Chapter 2 is probably the best short, concise and lucid explanation I've read about how design and normalize a database, why index, no index on a column and other basic concepts of database design. (I want that most DBAs had read this chapter :(). Information on these topics are presented in a single chapter, however, they do a better job at what other books do hundreds, if not thousand + pages. Their explanation of the SQL language is good, but slow the pace for my taste. However, Chapter 2 alone is worth the price of the book.

    Finally, is something I recommend, do not learn only what the test requires. You want to KNOW your stuff. The test is a mere formality, being aware of what they ask, but do not limit your knowledge development in the area defined by the test.

    HTH and good luck,

    John.

  • Instantiating an object in AS3

    I am just learning AS3 and read on instantiation and object. The code in the Quickstart book is about 75% of sense to me, since it covers the syntax of the previous section. However, as each dead intro to the code on the planet, he throws himself into a new and unexplained syntax:

    var myMC:MovieClip = new MovieClip();

    myMC.x = 100;

    myMC.y = 100;

    addChild (myMC);

    Line 1: I get var = myMC is to define a variable... However, I do not understand the colon... What does fact colon and MovieClip wants what? I guess the new MovieClip() is a method... Right?

    Line 2 and 3: logic. Add the value of the property for x and y properties of myMC

    Line 4: addChild (myMC); the book says that it is to add the instance to the "display". This is the first time, he said 'display '. What is c? The scene? Im not totally clear on the addChild literally means too. Is a "parent class" MovieClip and the fact addChild offspring?

    Also, if I put a line 5 and repeat addChild, do a second clip with the same properties, or what I need to do a new instance name?

    Please don't tell me that this particular code is a poor way to do things and go down a long explanation of why and how you will write the code. I'm just trying to get the basics here so I can learn to cultivate my knowledge...

    the prefix "var" means you are about to create a new variable (and flash will allocate space for it).  the keyword after the colon is the 'type' or 'class' of the variable.

    the displaylist, it's what you see on stage.  in as3, until the objects are added to the displaylist they are not displayed.  When you create components in the authoring environment, they are automatically added to the displaylist and will be displayed.  anything created with actionscript will be visible until it is explicitly added to the displaylist with addChild() or addChildAt().

    the flash help files are very useful.  You should check for gaps that you find through other sources.

    I tried to find a book to learn how to make special effects in CS6 for Photo Shop and After Effects. I want to focus on the PS, for the most part.
    The main effect, I want to learn now is creating 2.5 D images D 2 images. I've seen some good video tutorials online, but often the
    video is obsolete, the speaker has a very thick accent or the speaker is going so fast, they are almost unintelligible to my ears. (I also

    Mike

    Hi Mike.   I think that 2.5 D is the parallax effect where the angle of the camera moves in 3D space?  By separating the elements and doing well the bottom are a process of Photoshop, the animation should be done with After Effects as far ss I know.

    Try Google with "Dave Hill Parallax Animation".  Hers was the first example of the effect that I've seen, and it has lots of information on how to do it online. I'm sorry I don't know of all the books, but if you can find the content appropriate on Lynda.com, they run a written comment that highlights the words as the video tutorial speaks them.  I can't show you a screenshot that I'm away from home and I internet shite, but you can get a free trial period to see if it works for you.  A very tiny with Lynda of register but not to subscribe and revolve around the group for about a week.  If the site thinks you are interested but have not committed a subscription, it tends to offer a huge discount!  I'd be happy to pay every cent of the totality of the price, as is pure gold through a wide range of topics.

    3D Photoshop Steve Caplin is a book that you could look at, but I don't think it covers the parallax.  (It's the one Steve Caplin Photoshop book that I don't own)

  • AS3 button inside a movieclip

    I only started to learn AS3, I have a very simple question, but I can't understand it.

    I have a movieclip with instance name mcChange, and it has a button inside btnBack. When the button is clicked, I want to debut at the first image on the main stage.

    I would appreciate if you could help me with this one.

    where is the code?

    Chronology of mcChange when the button exists in case:

    btnBack.addEventList...

    If during the kinship of mcChange chronology after mcChange and btnBack exist:

    mcChange.btnBack.addEventList...

    the code that must be in the listener function depends on where the code is located and where the main stage is relative to the location of the code, if someone is bound to suggest any MovieClip (root) to the main timeline, which is always bad coding but will often work of reference.
