Bookmark PDF

Hello

I created a PDF with bookmarks and load to the cloud. Some participants can view the document, but there is no option to bookmark for them. Is it a version problem, or maybe a problem of "user"?

Hello Annette,.

Ben is right in saying that some viewers and pdf generators treat bookmarks differently. My guess is that some people look at the PDF in a viewer that does not display a bookmark. For example, by default, built it as a PDF viewer on the iPhone and the iPad does not display bookmarks at all! If users have problems to display bookmarks, suggest that they download Adobe Acrobat Reader for their device and then use the function 'open' on their device to open the pdf file in Adobe Acrobat Reader.

One of my teammates created several good documentation on the opening of PDF files in Adobe Reader here:

iPad: How to open PDF documents in Adobe Acrobat Reader for iOS (iPad version)

iPhone: How to open PDF documents in Adobe Acrobat Reader for iOS (iPhone version)

If they can't view the bookmarks in the Adobe Viewer, it is likely that the production tool does something wrong (in this case MS Word), but it is also possible that there is a bug in Adobe Acrobat. If your viewers cannot see bookmarks in the Adobe Acrobat Reader software for iPhone/iPad, please let us know!

  • Bookmarks PDF failed, cannot connect text frames

Using FrameMaker 10 to work, our books get their bookmarks shuffled around when convert us to PDF format. Topics in the section get jostled chapter previous, and topics of the first chapter just get dumped into level 1 with the chapter titles.

That contain our chapters Bookmarks PDF resulting
    • Chapter 1
      • CH1, 1 topic
      • CH1, heading 2
    • Chapter 2
      • CH2, heading 1
      • CH2, heading 2

I did some research, and the question above is usually because there are flows of separate text for the title of the chapter and the body of the text. It's true. Our chapter model a left & right page and a title page. The title page has just a stream of text "chapter title."

I have tried to solve this problem, but immediately ran into a new problem. If I try to connect the text frame of the chapter title for the text block body either on the left or right page, I get the following error message:

    "This connection is not possible.

You can try to connect two blocks of text which would result in a circular text stream, or you can try to connect to a stream of text of PostScript Code. »

I looked, and the title of the chapter is not connected to anything I can say. Its text does not work anywhere else, and try to go on Page layout-> disconnect Next/Previous/the two just told me he is not connected to anything. If I look at the properties of the object to one of these blocks of text, none of them are marked as PostScript Code. I am at a loss here.

Any ideas on how to get bookmarks that come out in the right order? We can repair the bookmarks later in Acrobat, but it is a tedious extra step that we sometimes forget. As far as I know, our model was made before the time of our current team. (none of us are really 'experts' on FrameMaker)

FM treats the stream in the order they are created. Default FM documents already have a cast in place, in order to add the feed to the chapter title that would put after the first default one. If you try to connect the end at the beginning, i.e. to create a circular flow

Create a new page master first with areas of text required in a single stream. Use the default text box located on the page when FM adds the new page master (usually you use the right page as your model for the first page) and shrink down to be the chapter title section, then add a new block of text to the page for the rest of the content [you now add this text frame/flow after the first]. After you add the headers and footers on the master page to check that the page layout is now visually the same. Remove the first old master page as a last step.

You will probably have to remove the chapter title text blocks in other documents before importing the new provisions that FM will leave just these are in place and the new & old frames would end by lying on top of the other. Also copy & paste the chapter titles in the mainflow before the update so you don't lose the content.

[Note: anyone who created the model was probably less than an 'expert' that you are now]

  • Bookmarks PDF

We currently use FM11 to create manuals in PDF format which consist of 100 or more files (chapters). Manually create us sections of the group containing the different chapters. The chapters use title 1 to 3 paragraph tags. When the PDF is created, the tags for each chapter are developed in the view bookmark.  Is there a way to display only the title of the chapter without the paragraph expanding tags?  Thank you in advance.

In the control panel of bookmarks, click in the list of "bookmarks expanded through level" and manually enter the level desired (in your case: 1).

  • Paragraph GroupTitlesIX tag does not appear in the list of bookmarks PDF

When I do a "save book as PDF' then watch list"Include paragraphs"for one of my books, the GroupTitlesIX tag does not appear in the list. If I open just the index, the GroupTitlesIX tag appears in the list and the index letters appear as bookmarks in the PDF of the index.

In the book, if I update the index file highlighted, select Format > Document > PDF Setup, the GroupTitlesIX tag appears in the list. But if I highlight all the files in the book, or even a single file in addition to the index, the tag does not appear.

I generate the index using add it > command Index Standard. I just tried creating a new book from scratch, using models of default FM; generated an index for the book and see the same problem.

I use p277 FM 8.0. What Miss me?

    Thank you

    B250,

FrameMaker is not the analysis of all the documents in a book when they offer paragraph formats to insert into a table of contents or PDF bookmarks. I seem to remember that having the format in the first file of the book is a good idea. Then make a book update before trying again.

  • create pdf Bookmarks files

Is it possible to create each bookmark pdf files in a single pdf file, where each created pdf file has the bookmark as file name?

    Thank you

    Adobe Acrobat Pro DC

    Windows 10

Yes, by going to tools - Pages - Split Document - level bookmarks.

If this does not work, then you can use a script like this, I developed:

Scripts custom Adobe: Acrobat - chapters from bookmarks

Scripts custom Adobe: Acrobat - extract lowest level bookmarks

  • PDF bookmarks are not correctly indented

I have one small unstructured FrameMaker document 2015. When I generate a PDF file, the bookmarks are not indented correctly.

The document includes sections in the following order:

    Level 1

    Level 5

    Level 5

    Level 4

    Level 5

    Level 5

    My bookmark PDF settings are:

    Level 1

    . Level 2

    .. Level 4

    ... Level 5

When I generate a PDF, I get the following:

    Level 1

    Level 2

    Level 5

    Level 5

    Level 4

    Level 5

    Level 5

It is relatively bet back, dealing with level 4 as another level 5 and then further indenting of level 5s that are level 4.

Someone at - he already seen this before? Any suggestions for fixing (apart from changing the order of the items)?

It is a design problem. You will need to manually adjust the PDF using Acrobat bookmarks or come with different paratags and levels not to break implicit structure. Have a critical look at the semantic meaning of the paratags you use where there may be alternatives to level 5 to the location that you have placed the. Also what happened to level 3 and how that will work in bookmarks when it gets used somewhere in your documentation?

  • no response from the PDF links

Links to a PDF file displayed in a Firefox browser do not work somehow. Clicking on them has no effect. The links in the same PDF read correctly in Internet Explorer 8, and Safari 5. Also, Firefox does not display bookmarks PDF which have been set to automatically appear in the PDF properties.

V26 of Firefox running on a Mac. Recently updated to the Mavericks, but had the same problem before that.

It is already fixed in a future version of the built-in PDF Viewer.

The beta version of Firefox 27 to the current address shows yet links properly using the version 0.8.641, but the current construction of 28.0a2 Aurora shows the links to annexes correctly using version 0.8.759.

So does this mean that when Firefox 28 was released in March, it will work for users with this version of Firefox.

It does work with the version of the 0.8.649 PDF Viewer available on the site of modules.

  • Bookmark as an Image

    Hello

I make a PDF where the chapters are marked with pictures. People can see the image elsewhere and can then search the accompanying text

the image in the PDF file. But there are a lot of chapters, if bookmarks are required. Unfortunately I can only add bookmarks that have text, not the bookmarks that

    use an image.

Would it not possible to use an image for a bookmark instead of just the text?

So that users see the image, open the PDF file and click on the image tab, bookmark and go directly to the corresponding chapter.

    Thank you!

    Bookmarks PDF can't be text.

  • How to make a binder?

I want to use Acrobat XI to create something like a binder where I have tabs for each section. Under a section might be one or more sheets.

When you import files I got a few bookmarks, but I'm not so happy with them.

I also found the so-called pdf portfolio.

What is the advantage using portfolios vs bookmarks?

I'll use the binder for a project where I get different reference material to be used in the project.

The hardcopy "binder" (3 D-ring, separation tabs, the content on the sheets of paper, etc.) is not supported by what anyone "digital."

You can add "things" on the digital file to simulate a little sorta more or less copy paper. However, it is a pale imitation of the binder on paper and it shows.

A PDF Portfolio provides a flash UI.
Think of it as a PDF "wrapped" by Flash.
A portfolio can "hold" support for the formats of files as PDF files.
Here are the attachments to the host, the PDF Portfolio.
The flash interface provides several layouts for the presentation of content attached.
These provisions are supported configurations assigned user.

Very neat. But, because of the Flash user interface, use of portfolio is practically limited to the use of Adobe Reader and Acrobat.

    With regard to PDF bookmarks.
These are not available in the PDF portfolio (Flash interface).
In a standard bookmarks PDF can be created. They live in the bookmarks Navigation panel Panel.

Thus, all PDF files that are attached to a PDF Portfolio can have bookmarks.
The Flash interface displays a thumbnail view of the file. For PDF files, when you open the file bookmarks can be read and used.

As always the Acrobat Help provides an instructive discussion of this.

Use the following URI to visit the Acrobat Learn & support.
Links using PDF for Acrobat XI, X and earlier versions are present.

  • Index table with scroll

I'm new to Indesign; but I'm looking to do the following:

I want to create a PDF file that has a table on the side left, that would be a clue with scrolling of the subjects for the PDF file. Is this possible in InDesign? And if so, how to create scrollable table?

Oh, it's certainly doable in PDF files. They can not the Language Javascript and do anything.

I don't think it's a good idea, however. Bookmark PDF interface provides the structure and a comfortable interface. If in doubt, invent your own user interface is almost always a bad idea... you will miss something subtle and annoys users and will not have the nice integration with the operating system, browser, or in this case, PDF Viewer, who they know.

It seems that you can do with bookmarks, so you should, in my opinion.

In addition, there are not exactly rich tools to develop the JavaScript in a PDF file. certainly InDesign isn't such a tool (so our Advisor in this forum is of limited use), and I'm not really sure Acrobat Pro is either.

  • Distiller Frame8 worked; Police for the Distiller Frame9 card is Incorrect

I've been using FrameMaker 8 with a custom AT & T the set of fonts, ClearviewATT without incident. I'm evaluating FrameMaker 9, but when I save as PDF, the Distiller produces PDF files with all bold and italic text in Times New Roman. Which is unacceptable.

The fonts are properly installed in my C:\WINDOWS\Fonts directory.

    The actual font files are:

    ClearviewATT "BOLD"

    ClearviewATT Bold Italic

    ClearviewATT book

    ClearviewATT Book Italic

    ClearviewATT light

    ClearviewATT Light Italic

In FrameMaker, these fonts appear in the form of ClearviewATT and ClearviewATT LT.

We use ClearviewATT to the body of the text and the LT version for all the text in bold and italic.

The Distiller font mapping seems to be failing.

I spent a full search using Adobe and Google for a solution and have tried three suggestions, but found no solution.

1 apply a Microsoft HotFix to allow for more memory to the Distiller. There was no apparent effect.

2 copy the fonts to the C:\Program Files\Adobe\FrameMaker9\fminit\fonts\adobe directory. . There was no apparent effect.

    3. print to a PDF Converter. This preserves the fonts, but we do not (required) bookmarks.

You have any ideas for me? FrameMaker 9 is worthless if I can't bookmark PDF with fonts AT & T.

    Derrick,

In the FrameMaker print dialog box, click PDF layout and turn on bookmarks in the Favorites tab.

  • Go to the source of a table of contents entry

I know that I can use the Bookmarks panel to go to the source of the page of a table of contents entry. Is it possible to go to the source of the paragraph so that the text cursor will go to the exact paragraph which is the source of the table of contents entry?

    Jay fresno wrote:

    Petteri,

As you suggested, I created a shortcut for the command of hyperlinks: go to Destination.

However, my table of contents entries are not in the hyperlinks Panel. they are listed in the Bookmarks panel. So, I don't know how the shortcut will help to to get to the destination of a table of contents entry, or how the shortcut differs by selecting the same command in the context menu of the control panel.

Give advice on how to use the method you suggested to find the destination of a table of contents entry. Once found the TOC destination, how can I know what is the exact point - is there indication, such as the slider is inserted in the paragraph?

The table of contents entries are disconnected from their sources. They are not hyperlinks. In InDesign, there is no way to move from an entry of table of contents to its source, given that in FrameMaker

In the layout > Table of contents, the option dialog box create bookmarks PDF does exactly that - makes bookmarks PDF.

InDesign TOC entries and the index entries require allows you to check hyperlinks in the section Include the export PDF dialog box to create them as clickable links in the exported PDF file.

    HTH

    Kind regards

As far as I know, a very small number of very basic things that TimeSavers could be done directly in FM, if - and that's a big IF - new syntax correct pdfmark and you knew where / how to insert the codes, and then how FM uses (or does not work!) the codes by creating PDF files.  Examples of relatively basic features I've personally done through code pdfmark are things like bookmarks PDF colorize and add additional bookmarks.

However, the vast majority of the TimeSavers capabilities cannot be reproduced otherwise. As far as I know, there is no all the other apps that do the same things, certainly nothing in the FM and nothing in the stadium of "post-FM production" in the world of PDF-handling.
