Boot from the CD-ROM in windows 8

I want to make my dual boot Pc of windows 8 and ubuntu 12.10. The problem is that I can't start either from a live CD or a USB key. I followed the instructions I found on the internet, but none of them were useful. I need to note, as I noticed that this fact is Important, that I upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8 so it came preinstalled by the manufacturer. I have a Hp pavilion computer g6.

To be more specific: in mode bios I put the boot order to boot from a CD, but it won't yet give me an option to boot from the cd and it runs automatically on windows. When I tried, but by using a USB key I'd get a software option missing even though I'm sure that the data has been stored correctly in

Problem solved. It turns out that you do not create a bootable usb key as you would with windows, but you need to use the unetbootin software and it worked. Thank you for your time, it is much appreciated

  • How can I configure my computer to boot from the CD Rom drive

I have Windows 7 home version and I have a problem with booting from the cd rom.  I did a cd bootable for a work at home job, but it will not work properly.  It works fine on the desktop of my sister, but not my laptop.  What is happening is the CD loads when I restart my computer, but then it goes to a black screen and just stays there until I have eject the CD.  I can hear the CD running, but I get nothing after the initial splash screen.  I have reset the bios to make sure that the CD-Rom was placed up in the boot parameters.  Any ideas why this CD will not completely loaded?  Thanks for any help you can give.

    Hello

    > I replaced the hard drive in the laptop, the old man died

Your new hard drive is recognized by the Bios?

    > Do I need to have the cd of recovery or must it be able to boot from a plain old XP cd?

You can use a recovery (if available) disk or Windows disk copy. In the Bios, you must set the Cd/DVD-ROM as 1st boot device and press F10 save and exit. Turn it back on. Thus, your computer you should start the installation of the Cd drive.

    Hello

I think that your partition on the HARD disk is damaged and so you cannot boot from the HARD drive.
In this case, the HARD drive must be formatted completely and then you could try to install the OS.

It seems also that your drive cannot recognize the CD bootable (WinXP?) and, therefore, it of not possible to boot from the drive.
Well, it really stupid s :_| situation really stupid!

However, did you try to boot from another CD? For example Microsoft Windows original CD?
If not I recommend you to do and eventually the reader will be able to read the CD.
If this isn't the case, so I think that the reader must be checked. Possibly it also corrupted s.

  • XPS 12 / Win 8: how to boot from the recovery partition / reinstall Windows?

Messed up things on a newly purchased 12 XPS in Windows 8, and I want to boot from the recovery partition and reinstall windows.

Support online pages point by pressing F8 during startup, but this does not at all.

How can I access the recovery partition?

To access to the menu of, , press F2.

To enter the boot options menu, press F12.

Because the XPS 12 boots so fast, it is better to repeatedly press F2 or F12 after restarting the machine. During the startup process, texts for options should appear at the bottom right of the screen. If you enter Windows, you will need to restart again and press F2 or F12 until it works. However, I don't think there is an option in the BIOS to restore the computer to its factory condition. The previous post by DELL-VIKRAM M describes how to properly restore the machine to its factory state.

  • Cannot install the boot from the DVD - OEM of Windows 7 (full)

Generally, I am able to reset the priority of readers, so a computer will boot from a DVD.  It's my first time on Win7 and I can't make it work.  Insert the disc in Windows (XP currently installed - 'not real') indicates the drive is not compatible with this version of Windows.  I thought that booting from the DVD would help, but I'm prompted to "press any key to boot from the CD/DVD" and every time he ignores me and goes backward to boot from the XP/hard drive.

At this point, I tried to affect the CD/DVD drive that all the priorities, not only the first condition.  I tried to use the other DVD player because there is another - still no luck.  Isn't this updated software in place to work this way?  It should be bootable, no?

    Thanks for any help...

Here's a question I would ask. Your computer is 64-bit compatible? If it isn't, it's probably one of the reasons why you would receive this error message. Please run the Windows Upgrade Advisor to see if your computer is ready for 64-bit.

  • Need help please, bios sees the new hard drive but still cant boot from the cd-rom

HI there, Im having some problems here. First of all, I have a Dell Dimension XPS Gen 2 with BIOS A06. I replaced the original hard drive to 120 GB because I received a stop error code with a new 320 GB (000000 x 24 or somethinglike that) but after research I was convinced it was the reader. I installed the new drive and the BIOS sees it under drive as primary drive SATA configuration... It's good, I guess, but now when I go to the sequence of hard drive I get (1. Unknown device (not installed) 2. System BIOS 3 boot devices. (Not installed) USB device) why the drive is not displayed here?

OK, so now when I try to boot from a CD-rom Home XP I get "strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for Setup utility. I can't seem to get around this problem any time now. I can get it to boot from a floppy disk, but not the CD, why is this? The two CD-ROMs are appearing in the BIOS as second master and slaves. IM really stumped on this one, please help!

  • Cannot boot from the CD-ROM drive

I have a Dell Dimension 9100.  Operating system is Windows XP.

The CD-ROM drive works great for playing CDs and recording stuff, but I can't boot from it.

Everything is fine with my computer at this time, it starts fine from the HARD disk, but I anticipate before when I need to use Acronis image rescue media under my method of recovery after a disaster.

For some reason any does not start my 9100 the drive, even after changing the BIOS boot sequence to insert 1.  My Dimension 4400 starts the CD player without problem.  4400 boots even in the backup media created in the 9100.

I carefully followed the instructions in the Dell knowledge base article "How to configure a Dell Dimension series system to Boot to the CD drive", does not.  I opened the folder and reinstall CD drive connections.  In addition, I am at a loss.

I hope someone can help me get this right.  Thank you.

    Hello

If you want to boot from the CD Rom, then a bootable Windows CD must be inserted in the first place.

Immediately after starting the laptop, press the F12 key.
This should allow the start on-screen menu then you could choose the ODD (CD/DVD drive) and the laptop should boot from the drive.

  • Reinstalling Windows XP: Boot from ATAPI CD-ROM: failure

    Hi all

I'm trying to format my PC to reinstall Windows XP. I set the BIOS to select CD-Room as a first option, but when I restart the PC, instead of getting the message "Press any key to boot from CD", I get this "Boot from ATAPI CD-ROM: failure...» "and it starts to load Windows (who doesn't like then I get a black screen and can't do anything), but it won´t start the CD.

I tried to insert the Windows CD in the DVD drive (I do not know if it would work), but when I press a key to boot from CD, I get a black screen with this message 'nocy zr intdis up trapdis', and then I can't do anything.

The CD player works, as if I insert a music cd, for example, it runs. The Windows CD also works in the other PC. Any ideas how can I format my PC if the CD won´t run? Or ideas how to run if I get this message "Boot from ATAPI CD-ROM: failure...» » ?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Windows 7 for Lenovo G50-70 - the computer will not boot from the CD

    Hello world

I hope that someone here will be able to help

I bought a new laptop with Windows 8.1. I want to install Windows 7 on that I know well because I can't use the new windows. I changed the settings in the BIOS to get the machine to boot from the CD, but it won't be fair. I also tried to restore the system to boot from the CD, but it installs just the Windows pre-installed, new instead. Also, I can't access the CD from the drive while all my other computers are capable of (what is strange)

    Can someone help, please?

    See you soon

    PS. : I can turn on the computer through the small "boot botton" on the side and select the DVD drive to boot from. But this is not followed by the message "Press any key to boot from CD" and the computer starts just W8 yet;

I contacted customer service and followed your advice. They refused to help him on the ground that there nothing wrong with the machine in their opinion, and since I wanted to change operating system. All preinstalled spyprogrammes Lenovo has been erased with this downgrade. So far, I've owned a laptop computer brand new and expensive for a year I used only to waste my time, trying to make it work, that was not why I bought it in the first place. What a RIP-OFF!
